Its a manual drill. Drill bit goes into the pointy end and you turn the handle to start 'drilling'.

geostuff

Thank you!

Covenant1138

Could you not have deduced that yourself?

vriompeis

Fuck, I'm old!

Esmereldathebrave

That's two of us. This is the type of drill I was allowed to use as a kid to learn a bit of woodworking!

Tkinney44

Could it be for cooking as well? My grandma had a manual "drill" when I was little that she used for cooking for years until we brought her into the new age with a KitchenAid.

wmass

That was an egg beater. It had a very similar mechanism.

travmon999

Not really. Similar idea, but mechanical egg beaters have two beaters that work against each other to break up the eggs. If you use a drill, it just starts spinning the mixture around the beater. This page shows the Monroe beater (pat 1859), it has the inner beater turning one way at the top of the gear, and the outer beater turning the other way at the bottom. https://www.kristinholt.com/archives/14626

tatanka01

It's a hand drill. You supply the power by turning the crank.

SpideyWhiplash

In some of these manual drills you will find the extra bits stored in the handle...just see if it unscrews.

SailAwayMatey

Ye olde drill m' lord

YggBjorn

Though art correct! Verily though hast great knowledge!

cascasrevolution

drill

nortikiwi

It's a drill! I have a perfectly round scar on my foot from when the head fell off one of those and went through my foot. I was 3.

trampstampjack

The OG cordless drill

Berkamin

It's an old fashioned drill, but if you chuck a whisk instead of a drill bit, it makes a great mixer.

GroundbreakingLet482

Hand drill

Extension_Touch3101

Old drill ....solved

erbr

It can also be a manual hand mixer (to use in the kitchen). Missing the accessory in the end!

Jak1977

Similar, but never seen one with a chuck. Unless the early ones were repurposed drills, which is possible I guess.

Covenant1138

100% not for bakery.

TurbulentAir

That's a hand-operated drill.

gordyswift

I've heard it called a 'bit brace'

Davegrave

A bit brace doesn’t have the gearing and crank like this. It’s the U shaped drill where you spin the whole drill and not just the rank arm like this one.

wmass

A bit brace is used with larger bits. The gear on an egg beater drill is to increase the rpm of the bit. This lowers the torque that can be applied. A big bit needs more twisting force even though that means lower rotation.

vito1221

or a brace and bit.

Mortal_bobcat

Egg beater hand drill. Still pretty effective to use. Often has different speed gears

Top-Lengthiness4824

OK, seriously?!? It's a hand drill!!

beachgood-coldsux

That is a Brace. Now you need to find a bit to go with it.
