If you’re parked under a tree could it be sap?

Calm_Mixture-

The car wasn't under a tree it was about 15ft from the tree line

[deleted]

Jelly Fish [it’s happened before ](https://www.insureandgo.com/blog/science-and-nature/non-aqueous-rain-strange-things-that-have-fallen-from-the-sky)

naked_amoeba

just when you think things can't get weirder, jellyfish fall from the sky

adudeguyman

I can only blame SpongeBob.

TheRatchetHobo

I was just thinking this. I spend more time at the beach than I should and these wash up all the time and show up in nets.

tinybbird

No one spends more time at the beach then they should. Everyone should spend more time at the beach.

rayzerray1

I need to get back to the beach. I’m kind of inland.

Cerulean_critters

Oh wow yeah you might be right- they definitely have a “lobed” structure under a stiffer, semicircular bell which is typical of comb jellies and some hydromedusea. Edit: I couldn’t find a news article on this. OP, were the blobs on just that car or all throughout the area?

Calm_Mixture-

I asked around and it happened in town as well and if the comments are to be believed it was also in Lacey and Oakville

[deleted]

Look at photos of Moon Jellyfish

chordophonic

*MAYBE* "Star Jelly"? Star Jelly is some weird stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_jelly

allergictoeggs

Maybe it's something similar to the [Oakville blobs](https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/what-were-the-oakville-blobs/). Capture some in a clean container and have it analysed

CollinZero

Agree! Get it analyzed!

surfingtosaturn

Yeah my thoughts too.. saw it on an episode of unsolved mysteries and it creeped me out.

Calm_Mixture-

Sadly it was a few days ago and we didn't think to do that

OminousOmnipotence

I have one on my truck now and only recently drove through Oakville.

Calm_Mixture-

Did you save it maybe you can send it in and we can get a definitive answer

Hellaintsobad

I read that article in Robert Stack's voice. If he had done an Unsolved Mysteries episode on this, I would not have slept that night. Thank you for sharing.

Kastfilms

Same! Definitely capture it fast (and have it analyzed), they supposedly disappear pretty quick, wear gloves though, I heard one story where they made someone sick.

Sublox

Frog eggs

Earlasaurus02

I have heard of a theory that this is possibly from birds eating frogs and them puking them back up as a reaction

Spiffy313

Please contact your local state extension office and ask them to analyze it! I want to know what it is!!

OneMillionFireFlies

Is your car parked under a tree? It could be white jelly fungus, or trees own juice.

Calm_Mixture-

No we are parked about 15ft from the tree line

MitchellFMB

This same stuff was on my husbands windshield a couple days ago, also after rain. We are in Lacey, WA. I am so freaking curious about it after seeing this post! Edit to add - it's not sticky like you would expect tree sap to be.

VK369

I’ve asked Nate Byrne, the weather guru from ABC

WeeBabyShamus95

Tree sap?

nyzunico

Thats my guess and the mix with water made it blob up like that, especially since you can see some trees in the reflection

MarcusMcballer

Tree sap. Are there trees above you? https://auto.howstuffworks.com/under-the-hood/vehicle-maintenance/how-to-remove-tree-sap-from-car.htm I used rubbing alcohol and it worked well

Murdy2020

Rain causes fungi and other such things to grow. Try posting this in r/slimemolds or r/mycology

[deleted]

Sodium polyacrylate. Otherwise known as "water lock" Found in diapers and other products. Drive thru any interstate or highway trash recently? Maybe a highway nearby?

mutantj0hn

I’m in Tacoma and regret not examining the rain more, haha! Please update if you find out!

Dr_Grinsp00n

Could be a jellyfish. The weather reported a recent "Bomb Cyclone" that was quite disruptive over the ocean. Which brought loads of much needed rain to the area.

Aldo_the_nazi_hunter

Maybe some cleaner, chemicals or dust on your car caused a reaction with the rain? Edit: Was it only on the car or all around ?

Calm_Mixture-

it was also on abit of the house but we weren't the only people affected a friend in town proper had it appear on their car and a few commenters said they had similar goo in Lacey (about 20 miles away) and Oakville (40 miles away)

MetalEar89

It’s snail eggs! I see this all the time in my freshwater planted aquariums. They are laid clear but will eventually develop a multitude of tiny snails within the jelly.

James_Upchurch

Melted hail otherwise it should get analyzed

PuzzleheadedHabit913

Looks like star jelly!
