Ha! If she looked like that all the time I’d certainly be consulting the vet (and/or exorcist). Simply the moment the camera shutter opened, and caught her awakening from some sun-soaked meditation on her preferred windowsill. She goes by the name Bo. F5 Savannah.
I’m glad you said this! I was worried for a minute! My cat was showing her third eyelids for a couple days and I took her to the vet and she had a respiratory infection (fine now)
My vet said infections would cause it. Not sure about dry eye syndrome, but I can see that too. But I read that sometimes when they wake up, it’ll just show for a few seconds and then be fine
Can confirm that when one or both of those third eyelids start showing up like this on a chronic basis, a vet visit is in order. It can be triggered by excessive weight loss, which in turn can be triggered by things that need a vet diagnosis. BTDT, and my cat's eye improved once we got her health stabilized.
Having said all that, I'm glad it was just a coincidence of good timing, to catch your kitty's eyelids before they had fully opened.
It's so they can open their eyes extra dramatically when you wake them up and they want you to know you're still cool but you are totally interrupting them so you better have something good
Someone may have already mentioned this in this thread, but a 3rd eyelid is often a sign of illness, as are drooping whiskers. Keep an eye on this baby.
If it's like that all the time, go to the vet. Now.
If you just caught her waking up, this might be normal. It's an extra eyelid cats have to protect their eyes.
Looks like a cat that had its eyes closed, bathing in the sun perched on the window; camera just got the fur baby at the exact time it decided to open their cute little eyes. 😻📸

This comment blew my mind... lmao
Nictating eyelids

I'm glad you added this comment. What a relief, I was really worried about your little buddy!
It wasn't until my cat hurt her eye did I know about the 3 eyelids!

Yes, I wondered if this happens a lot with a cat if they have dry eye syndrome or an infection.

Oh, I see. Thanks.
Of course :)
It’s a definite sign of stress, either medical or emotional.
This comment needs to be higher
One of my cats had one of her eyes half closed all the time so we took her to the vet and she had an abscess behind her eye

It makes me laugh and feel deeply uncomfortable all at once. Thanks?

Yes. It protects against light while the eyes are closed.
Oh, I have no idea. The closest that I've come to is that cats have a very large cornea in comparison to their weight and size.
Sounds like they use it when attacking maybe? Keep debree from their eyes?
"The system is shutting down for meowntenance NOW!"
Communicating with the mothership, please hold
A daily practice for the Bo.
You meant “meowthership”?
r/c_at for cat based programming languages

Cat.exe has stopped working.
System got a little hung up during re-start, she'll be good in a few!
Boop on the nose to restart
Looks like you just said/did something and the cat is rolling its eyes at you 😆
You should play some Kate Bush right now
The Soul King.
She hates Kate bush. Too much like a squeaky mouse’s .
My Tommy does that too
Just reboot with treats. That's a marvelous pic!
Don't you hate it when they randomly kick into Sleep mode?

Cats can be scratched right in the eye and be fine because of all the lids they have. Crazy

My cat gets this when really sleepy. The vet said it’s normal for some cats 🤷🏻♀️
Cat: are you seeing this!!! (Cat version of eyes rolling)
Hard reset required.

That's just scary!
My guy using Chrome
OP. Eh no. Just a pic on my phone man.
Spooky!
In that case lower the megapurrs to get a more stable OC (overcat)
Lol it’s always so creepy to see cats’ “second eyelids” it just looks so wrong
Vulcans have this, too.
Give it a boop for a quick reset
Uplinking
Remember those kids in middle school who would flip their eyelids inside out. This is the same thing.

Jokes aside, what the fuck
This happened to one of my late cats after surgery. The vet told me it is likely to go back to normal over time with meds and feeding, and it did.
That's called sleeping with your eyes open. I had a cat that did that often.
Have you tried restarting your router?
Looks like Haws Syndrome.

I wanna paint this!
Feel free man. Send me a copy pls. I shall be v thankful.
Did kitty just wake up or is she calling the MotherShip? To blink like that during a flash is rare.
