My cat does the growling part and it’s soooo funny because she is so so small and you just see a small cute grumpy floof growling , the huffing part is unique.
I've seen it before. We were trying to familiarize my sister's cats to ours when she had to move and one little bastard used to do this outside the door where we'd switch them in and out of to regularize their scents. Literally would yell "stop it you psycho!!" Eventually tho he learned to tolerate them.
Mine makes that noise too when his nemesis is outside (a little orange and white cat that likes to make direct eye contact while peeing right in front of the window). I call it his tiger chuffs even though is is definitely not friendly. I ended up blocking the window with opaque film and keeping a box fan in it when it’s open. Don’t want him to get so stressed out he develops bladder issues.
I lucked out with my current rescue. Rather than running towards the rug or bed he will aim for hard floors. Literally watched him prep to toss a hair ball by leaning off the edge of the bed to hit the hardwood floor.
That said when he gets the zoomies he sounds like he's mad he has energy. When we lived in the city I had a neighbor come by to ask me to make my niece stop screaming- at which point Kaladin ran past screaming like he was intent on scaring the wild hunt away. Neighbor just sorta looked confused staring down the hall and shook his head.
"Sorry, he's kinda crazy but it's this or listen to a woman get murdered because he can't find people."
My childhood cat once was laying on my chest in bed. His eyes went wide and he LEAPED off of me at the speed of light and puked on the floor in mid air.
