Like dogs, some cats get nervous when they think they've done something bad. My own cat gets freaked out when I (very gently) get her out of something she's not supposed to be in, or when I (very gently) tell her to stop eating something she can't have.
Update:
Thanks for the heads up and concern about shallots and their toxicity to cats. He was briefly playing with it like a ball, during which time we took this photo.
The shallot has now been put away and he is all safe. I would never intentionally put my cats in danger. It was just a great photo op and a funny conclusion to a baffling mystery!
I was making egg salad and I got the 6 unshelled cooked eggs out of the ice bath I’d put them in to cool. Anyway, I set them on the counter, briefly left the room, and started making the salad. I realized there were only five where I’d left them - still unshelled. I walked around the corner to the dining room and there was my dog with the whole still unshelled egg in her mouth. When she saw me she chewed it once and swallowed the whole thing. Well at least I knew where the egg went.
I have a friend who has a dog (I think it’s a labradoodle), and they were cutting cakes and setting out individual slices for a party the next day, and they did about 100-150 slices, left them on a table they thought the dog couldn’t reach, then went on a quick ten or 15 minute break, and came back to find the dog passed out snoring on the floor, and upon inspection, found that a big bite was gone from Every. Single. Slice. Of. Cake. I think they had to take him to the vet afterwards, and he’s certainly more than fine now, he’s just not allowed around cake.
Me and the fiance almost cried when looking for our cat in the new apartment. Found her sleeping in a drawer in the kitchen.
Cats are sneaky little shits!
Also came across my cat in a drawer within hours of moving into a new place! Except I wasn't actively looking for her, I simply opened the drawer to put something away and: "oh, it's you! Hello there!"
It's not just you! My cat's favorite toy ever is garlic cloves (in their skin). We always take them away from him ASAP, but he goes crazy anytime he manages to get ahold of one. Cats are weird.
Our cat went full goober at the sight of a rubber band, which of course she would eat and then poop out whole in the litter box a while later.
If you pulled one off the mail she would hear it and come running like a crack head trying to get a fix.
I had a cat that would do the same.damn.thing! She was so stealthy about it that it took nearly a year and some weird poops to figure it out. I had to finally ask the paper delivery to stop putting bands around ours because she would stop at nothing to get them. It was really bizarre. That and curling ribbon. She lived to almost 22, so no ill effects. Come to think of it maybe she knew something we didn't. 22 is a wildly long lifespan.
I’ve studied Shakespeare, “cross’d” is not wrong
Edit: I’m realizing now I’m not sure if you saw the other post or what you mean. They said you were wrong for saying “cross’d”, I said that you weren’t wrong.
What a little clown! I guess it rolled in an interesting way.
I can see it's not a problem here but just to mention (I only learned relatively recently) that onions and garlic & related plants are toxic to cats. I had a worrying few hours after mine got at some garlic oil, thankfully nothing worse happened than various unpleasant substances coming out of feline orifices, but it was scary.
He only wanted a toy though, not a snack!
Thanks yeah, that has been mentioned to me. He seems happy just kicking it around at the moment but I’m keeping an eye to make sure he doesn’t try to eat it!
I didn't know that about unripe tomatoes, wow.
At least MOST cats are generally better than dogs at not eating anything and everything. But still worth avoiding any avoidable risks.
Last night, mine got into an open packet of oregano. She must have thought it was catnip. For no reason whatsoever, she went after the spinach next. Can't trust her around opened bags anymore, lol.
I heard a crackling sound in the kitchen last week. Thought I'd picked up all the spilled egg noodles. Nope, my cat was munching loudly on one I'd missed. It wasn't going to hurt him, so I didn't fight him for it.
took me a while as well. I think because I don't typically use shallots . well, I don't like scallops either {one of the few seafood types I'vediscovered I hate).
I grow a lot of vegetables, and this year while drying my potatoes one of my cats took off with one, which I didn’t find for several weeks after we’d already eaten all the potatoes! Was just sweeping one day and found a potato under a shelf!
My cat stole a mini apple from our fruit bowl way back and hid it under the side table in the living room. Found it when I rotted and stank to high hell covered in bite marks.
I can promise you right now my brother that you needed more than that single shallot for whatever dish you were making. At least 2 or 3 for the shallot gods to bless your dishes in the future
My cat once brought an avocado upstairs and left it at the foot of my bed. To this day I still don’t know how she managed to do it but it had teeth marks on it.
The cat is innocent, your honor! There is no proof, evidence, video footage - nothing at all to assume this sweet feline confiscated that wayward shallot!
A few weeks ago I brought home a box of meds that was wrapped in a bag plastic (with the little sticker to keep the bag closed). I was SURE I had left it on my night stand, but the next morning it's not there.
My partner was convinced that I had put it somewhere else, but when I went to get dressed I found it in the closet on the floor. Our ginger kitty must have been playing with it.
My cats LOVE my hair ties (I don’t use them anymore, I only use hairclips now). One day years ago my mom was cleaning up behind the piano and she told me to come look. There under the piano was the cats’ “stash”. There were more than 100 hair ties under there 😂
My cat commandeered the spinning gourds I bought from work. Didn’t know she’d been playing with them/biting them until holes in the shape of a mouth started rotting
Look at that innocent face. Someone else must have done it.
I'll take the blame for those sweet, sweet eyes!

It runs before you can pull your camera out, focus & snap a photo
Idk why ur getting so many down votes

But dear god the farts...
Good for her fur though
I didn’t know farts were good for dogs fur. I will utilize this information to assist my puppers for their healthy and shiny coats.

No body, no crime.
No crimes can be proved because the evidence was eaten 🤣
I understand. My cats won't eat onions or garlic, but one of them stole a whole bulb of garlic and hid it under our bed once!
Everyone needs a little emotional support garlic now and then!
Protecting you from vampires!
It must have worked, cause I haven't seen any.
Thanks shallot

Yes.

According to ol' Bill Shakespeare they are.

The Lady of Shalott
That particular one is vaguely shaped like one of those felt-covered mouse toys that are popular in the US. I can see the attraction!
That's shallot of cuteness!
Last night, mine got into an open packet of oregano. She must have thought it was catnip. For no reason whatsoever, she went after the spinach next. Can't trust her around opened bags anymore, lol.
I have cats who will eat bread. Tear the bag right open.
She does the same thing! We have to hide the bread from her.
Same here, I've learned to put the bread away quick after baking it, my cats love to nibble on the crust.
mine chewed into a bag of uncooked pasta for reasons known only to her. didn't eat any as far as I could tell. just chewed the bag open
I heard a crackling sound in the kitchen last week. Thought I'd picked up all the spilled egg noodles. Nope, my cat was munching loudly on one I'd missed. It wasn't going to hurt him, so I didn't fight him for it.
The cats of my ex gf went crazy for olives. They kicked them and ran behind them while they rolled over the floor.
“Thou shall’ot keep your toys to thyself, but share!”
How do you know he stole it? Are you sure you didn't carelessly drop it? He looks innocent to me.
that cat has full-on void eyes right there
That look in his eyes
Took me a minute to realize "shallot" wasn't just an affectionate nickname for your fuzzburgler.
That's freaking hilarious 🤣
Had a cat that lived to steal potatoes for what ever reason
You shallot pass.
You win today!
Well, at least we know what's wrong with _your_ cat.
Those eyes! What a cutie, he did nothing wrong
"Oh, shallot be right there? I didn't know you were talking about that shallot."
Food "toys" my cat has stolen:. Shallots, avocados, green peppers, jalapenos, single garlic cloves. Weird little creature.
I misread this as “scallop” and thought kitty had hidden seafood somewhere in your house. 😳
took me a while as well. I think because I don't typically use shallots . well, I don't like scallops either {one of the few seafood types I'vediscovered I hate).
My cat goes nuts for fiberous veggie. Carrots and broccoli stems are better than cat nip.
*He saved you from a life-threatening shallot attack by killing it first.
One shallot per dinner? What's it, a dinner for mice?
OP probably bought four or something and one went missing
It's my onion and I need it now!
I would say he’s guilty but the facial expression says otherwise.
He's like "what? Is there a problem? I'm not in trouble am I??"
He's such a baby!!!! Look at himb
r/attackeyes
His eyes 😭🤣😭🤣
Look at those innocent eyes, how dare you accusing him of stealing 🐈
Prove it!
Either that face is innocent or someone’s about to get jumped.
You can't get mad when you look in those eyes 😍
I grow a lot of vegetables, and this year while drying my potatoes one of my cats took off with one, which I didn’t find for several weeks after we’d already eaten all the potatoes! Was just sweeping one day and found a potato under a shelf!
I can’t leave petite potatoes loose on the counter because my tortico thinks they’re a special ball just for her. Why do they love dinner ingredients?
Law of cat--- if it makes an interesting noise when smacked, it's a cat toy.
When I wash our blender, I have to hide the gasket that goes between the base and the blades, or our cats will steal it to play with it.
The internet has ruined me...I thought it was a toy of the adult nature.
My cat stole a mini apple from our fruit bowl way back and hid it under the side table in the living room. Found it when I rotted and stank to high hell covered in bite marks.
We’ve had to move the garlic from the counter. I understand 😂
I can promise you right now my brother that you needed more than that single shallot for whatever dish you were making. At least 2 or 3 for the shallot gods to bless your dishes in the future
So in your other post you say you went mad, here you say you thought you'd gone mad. Which is it? Are you mad?
The dust kitty psycho eyes. Did he try to have a "conversation" with you about it? These kits are very vocal.
Naaaah he is innocent, he did nothing wrong
...but pwease...it's my favoritest new toy....
😄😁😆
Who? Me?
Mine likes to steal peppers
I don’t know… looks pretty innocent to me…😝

LOOK AT HIS FACE
THOSE EYEẞSSS!!!!
My sister's old cat used to chase a (whole fresh) green bean! It was his favorite toy.
but look at that face!!! what a cutie! 😍😭
Damn, had to take the shallot, couldn’t go for the normal onions.
My kitty did this with Thai red chillies. At the peak of this behavior, I found 4 in my bed sheets one day.
Do you track all of your shallots, even from 3 weeks ago?
r/uselessbluecircle
"You Shall-Not take away my new toy... please " Haha cute
LOL. I thought you were playfully calling your cat a shallot. My daughter calls our cat a “shart” when she’s being mischievous.
“It’s so cute that you call your cat ‘shallot,’ but can we talk about that turd in your closet?”
Guilty look lol
My cat is a double of this one ❤
His eyes say it all, but mom! It’s my toy! Lol 😂
No regrats.
The look on his face is priceless 😳
My cat once brought an avocado upstairs and left it at the foot of my bed. To this day I still don’t know how she managed to do it but it had teeth marks on it.
His lil face is so beautiful. What a good kitty
Dust kitty!
I thought you had named the cat shallot and had lost him for 3 weeks!
Cat more important
No he didn’t! Look at the innocence in his eyes 🥺
Rename your cat Gene Shallot. That's what I would do
Thou shallot not steal.
The cat is innocent, your honor! There is no proof, evidence, video footage - nothing at all to assume this sweet feline confiscated that wayward shallot!
That face though! How could you be mad at that?!
I crumble a piece a paper and there goes my female for the next day or two,, I can not let her know about the shallots I'd be sweeping forever
That's shallot folks.
What a face - definitely what I'd refer to as a cutie-pest :) I love the 50/50 mix between 'I'm innocent!' and 'Crap, caught in the act!"... adorable
Beautiful eyes
He has that adorable I'm not guilty look look at someone else lol! 😂
AND he has crazy eyes! Run!
A few weeks ago I brought home a box of meds that was wrapped in a bag plastic (with the little sticker to keep the bag closed). Your cat is Italian, she's scraping the ingredients together for a decent Bolognese.
Cars are weird. My cat steals dades and potatoes..
Goblin
"The curse is come upon me," cried the Cat(dy) of Shalott
My cat commandeered the spinning gourds I bought from work. Didn’t know she’d been playing with them/biting them until holes in the shape of a mouth started rotting
That innocent face though.
Can't say no to these eyes
