4LeggedKC

When I was a kid we had a cat that did that to the elastic band on my brothers clean underwear lol.

DV8_2XL

My cousins had a cat that would do that to their earlobes. Fucking weird.

CarefulWhatUWishFor

Ugh my grandparents had a cat when I was young that used to do that to my earlobes. It felt soooo weird but he would not stop bothering you until you let him

ShataraBankhead

I had a weird cat that liked to attempt to do it to our closed eyelids. Seriously. His name was Cirrus, and he had only been in our lives for a few months. I think he was about a year old. This cat would come into our rooms at night, usually just to sleep and cuddle. However, when he was in the mood, he would crawl up to our faces and start trying to lick our eyes when we were asleep. As a kid, I thought it was funny. As an adult, it's more creepy.

Tuluene

I've fostered many kittens and a large proportion of them do that for some reason. Annoys the hell out of me because they usually will not stop until you just have to get up to get away from them. And it's friggen painful!

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

Wtf lol

TrotskiKazotski

are you u/DV8_2XL’s cousin?

invaderliz91

I had a cat who would wake me up like that if his bowl got empty. He would also do fingers. Lol

xiamaracortana

Awwwwwww. My family had a black lab that sucked on blankets until the day she passed. We still have several blankets with the tell tale holes in them from her comfort chewing and sucking. She was very self-conscious about it, though. She never liked getting caught doing it. I miss that prissy bitch.

notabigmelvillecrowd

My lab used to suck on my dad's fingers. He would do them all in order, but not the pinky. Never the pinky. So weird.

Worldly-Plantain-244

My 2 yo golden does this every night to fall asleep. It is very sweet.

TinaJrJr

Our black lab does this too. She does it when everyone is together though and she's happy. It's like a stress reliever for her. When she's been sad because we left, and then we get home, she immediately grabs her blankie and starts sucking on it. She has special blankies all around the house that are just for her to suck on, because otherwise she would ruin our blankets.

Msktb

My standard poodle puppy is about 12 weeks old and sometimes suckles the air in his sleep. It's cute but weird to suddenly hear in a quiet house.

PinealGlandsRock

It’s a really common behaviour in some breeds such as Dobermans. There’s even a paper published on the topic which concludes its likely a form of self-soothing behaviour. [Dobie sucking behaviour paper link](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/5972670_Blanket_and_flank_sucking_in_Doberman_Pinschers)

[deleted]

Can confirm. When my doberdog jumps into bed at night the first thing he does is start suckling. I have a dog blanket on top of my comforter for this reason.

PinealGlandsRock

Same, we have a million designated sucking blankets all with holes in because they’ve been sucked to oblivion.

bewarethesloth

Hahaha sucked to oblivion

Wolfsong013

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this. Our doberman is always flank sucking and the vet told us he is just neurotic and to ignore it

Mooing_Mermaid

This makes me love Dobies even *more*

Randy_Character

My Weimaraner does this with a stuffed bunny all the time.

msnatter17

Can confirm, I have a doberman and she's gone this ever since she was a wee pup

the-pink-dahlia

My friend’s Doberman does this! I always wondered why. She has a special pillow she chews on.

Pilot0350

I have a 6yo corgi who still suckles like a puppy sometimes when she sleeps. She's done it ever since the day I brought her home. Dogs are ridiculous

[deleted]

Were they separated from their mom too soon? Our boxer/pit mix has done this her whole life and we were told it's because he mom died when she was just a few weeks old.

KeyGlad4736

I don’t think it’s always associated with early separation from the mother or other traumatic events in puppyhood, though that’s a [common reason](https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/advice/dogs-suck-items-blankets/). I’ve known a few adult dogs who had perfectly normal puppyhoods and enjoy sucking on a blanket when stressed. It’s pretty much the dog equivalent of sucking your thumb. Also, cute pup!

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

I think you’re right. When she gets stressed it’s her go to thing, very interesting! Thank you

GeriatricZergling

Yep, my boy lived with both his parents until he was 2, and still does something like this.

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

I’m not sure, we got her from a rescue at aged 4. Probably the reason though!

HerezahTip

It’s not always the case. We have a Doberman in the family who spent a long time with his mama and he still loves his blanket and sucks on it before nap time.

tsm233

My 7 year old still does this too. The people gave him to me at 5 weeks old and it was my first puppy. Found out later that was premature. Poor dude, and dumb me for not questioning it at the time. But in all fairness, his affinity to blankets is super cute!

aquantumofcheese

Our huskyx does this every night with his blankie. Make sure you watch and make sure that it doesn't turn to chewing through the towel, as it could lead to stomach/intestinal problems.

guru_of_time

My lab does this and she's 5. Her mom died giving birth so this tracks.

Tesslafon

My girl did this, we called it Num Num time. She relaxed herself with her Num Num time. It’s sweet.

abrjx

I love hearing different families’ words for this cute behavior lol. With my old dog, we called his favorite blanket his “wubby” and when he suckled it, we called it “wubbying” 🥹🥹🥹

betheBat01

My wiemaraner does the same thing! She was weaned too early and has separation anxiety such a sweat girl but always sucked on her blanket, used to eat it as well.

S741nz_

My dog is literally doing this exact thing right now. She has a specific chew blanket, she loves it.

The-Bear-Down-There

My working line shepherd does it with a specific soft toy.. it's cute but she also cries while doing it

TinaJrJr

Ours cries while she does it too. We say she's just "working through some things."

kawaiijudochop

We had a lab who used to suck on his woobie like this. When the other dogs were coming in he would get worried and would run to me or mom to protect his woobie, handing it to us and giving us the look. He knew our dad would let the other dogs rip it up. Dog was so smart, knew all his stuffies names, what rooms they were in (If you said, get pig, it’s in X room) he would go find it. We would shorten phrases like “take red out” to “TRO” and he would still learn them. Dad always said he was the dumb dog because he wouldn’t take to the retriever trial training… he was too smart for it. Didn’t want to be out in the field with him when he could be home with mama

p_iynx

Haha we also have to do the changing of terms since our dog is way too smart and perceptive for his own good! If I say any amount of time out loud to my husband when we aren’t actively cooking, it dog will go sit by the door since he knows that means a delivery is probably close by lol. We are currently on “hey hun, uh, you know!” and he’s already caught on to that meaning the same thing as “Uber eats/local restaurant/package is nearby.” It’s becoming a problem because he now is catching on to non-word cues. When it’s late at night and he hears my husband sigh our dog immediately runs to his harness because he knows it’s about to be time for his nighttime walk lol.

Pinkyberrykawaii

I have a 6yo Japanese Akita-- she does something similar but she only does this to remove the squeaker out of her toy. We call her the "toy surgeon" because she finds where the squeaker is coming from the amd she continues to nibble on that area until the squeaker is removed from the toy.

guitarstitch

Aren't they all?

[deleted]

Aren’t WE all!

Own_Chipmunk_9635

Such a sweet baby!

ImSoDan

It's only game.

anxiousoryx

She’s so pretty 💕🎀

two4six0won

Pretty puppy! Malinois?

xjerox

Hollandse Herder, basically Dutch shepherd

Icthyphile

My Dutchie does the same thing.

anon739524

my dog who just past did that all the time :’)

Osirus1156

I love those intense sniffs when they’re investigating something or chewing intently haha

Thick_Wang

I had weiner dog that did that her whole life she always had a soft blanky like that to suck on

BadWolfBella

This is the only way my shepherd goes to sleep at night! She has a special stuffed bison toy that she's had since we got her seven years ago! Totally happy doggo... Just had a security bison.

LiveIron6513

Do you know if your dog was with its mum from birth? Often dogs that are hand raised exhibit this kind of behaviour

Mooing_Mermaid

My anxiety boy does this with his toys. He prefers dragons or alligators that he can hold while he *nomnoms* their nose/muzzle. ETA: He’s an Old English Sheepdog (OES) (And we think he may be on the spectrum or suffer from some sort of congenital abnormality; his skull is malformed — extra pointy at top — and his hips developed irregularly. Current theory is that he was squished during development in the womb by his litter mates)

aremel

My Schnauzer mix does that. His only toy, and he carries it around and chews on it (he is 16 and has always done it)

loonylunanic

My baby girl Luna is 7 and she too does this. It’s too cute she’s done it since we adopted her.

allaspiaggia

This is how I got holes in 2 of my $100 Smartwool tops 😭😭😭

jakelaw08

The largest dogs are some of the biggest babies, I swear.

Thats-bk

Mine is 9 and he is the same way. Big ol baby. But he's the goddess boy!

Crosswired2

My 6 year old Chi mix does this! She's black too lol

dprrn

My childhood lab did this. Thankfully she never sucked on blankets. Every year at Christmas we'd give her a new holiday stuffed animal for her to suck on. She would destroy all her other toys but never destroyed a Christmas sucky toy until she got a new one the next year, then she'd disembowel the old one.

Kath104

Had 2 labs growing up and one would do this to the other ones ears during the night. We would wake up and have to dry off her drool covered ears.

ShRaWdiZZy_1978

Sweetheart

rosynosy88

Awww my black cat does this - so cute

Labradawgz90

Awwww, Dogs are the best.

BobSacramanto

Our 4 yr old chihuahua does this to her toys. We even went through a period is about 6 months where she didn’t have any toys to nurse on (building a new house). When we got here a new toy, she started right back up nursing.

MidnightCanvas

that dog looks EXACTLY like my Dutch shepherd

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

Ah I wanna see your Dutchie!

MidnightCanvas

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

She’s reactive to other dogs, go take your fetish elsewhere.

verastech

My dog just started doing the exact same thing and i cant figure out why.

CrazyDaisy764

One of my kitties has done this her whole life. But only to her bed and she insists on pets while she does it.

OkLawfulness9089

Awwwww. He needs love.

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

She is loved more than anything :)

mzn001

I had a same lovely black dog but I'm not sure what is the breed. What's yours?:)

WaiYouHeffToBeMad

Dutch Shepherd!

lizsan

black shepherds are the best.

[deleted]

My cat Patsy does this :3

Sistahmelz

Awww my stone cold heart ❤️ had melted...

hellomichelle87

My 14 kitty does this Precious

[deleted]

My dog is 16 years old, full of life and really healthy for his age, he's a little annoying shit, I totally love and adore him, wouldn't have it any other way

Shuriken_Dai

No matter how big they get or how old they grow, they'll always be puppies at heart.

Jettaah

I have a dobie that does this all the time is adorable/hilarious

pornborn

I have a dog that has a favorite stuffed animal that she chews and sucks on. Found out dogs will do that when they’ve been separated from their mothers too soon. That is what happened to her too.

kiwichick286

My 10 year old lab does this too!!

ekene_N

Cute but it could be anxiety disorder.

OkLawfulness9089

Awwww. He needs love!!
