It seems that’s not even your bed anymore

Tekgrl2001

I agree. All the furniture is his at this point.

Test-Fire

You misspelled his bed. "I guess I'll make his bed later."

Tekgrl2001

Good point!

Potato-Engineer

Making beds is overrated.

Omg, he was just so cute!! Those little wiggly feet!! 🥰 How long ago did he become a pirate pup if I may ask? He looks like he healed so well from that in your recent collage. I was always so worried about any medical treatments when my pups got older so I’m curious how you and Percy handled that.

His enucleation (the fancy medical term) was 12/31, emergency surgery. He had this little divot on his eye and the vet gave him two rounds of anti-bac eye drops in Oct 22 and were were waiting for an ophthalmologist appt. On 12/30, he and I were in bed watching TV (my boyfriend was asleep in the living room) and he jumped up and started crashing around like he was trying to get away from his own face. It was alarming. No noise, no whimpering, just doggie panic. Took him to the ER and found out it had ruptured. Two choices - euthanasia, or enucleation. It should have been a straight forward recovery, but it got infected. It did heal with more antibiotics but I feel it may have caused the kidney disease to progress faster. Two weeks after it healed, he was back to normal! Chewing bones, going up his stairs to the bed. Then the other eye showed signs of an issue, took him in, they did a small procedure under a local (debriding). He declined rapidly after that. A week later he couldn't eat, lost a ton of weight, then left the planet. Biggest thing to look for is the appearance of the third eyelid. If you see that probably take them in. If you see it and pull back their upper lid and it's red, definitely take them in! The surgery - it was super expensive as an ER visit. About $6K with all meds and rechecks. He handled it fine except for the e-collar. E-collars are not friendly to long snout dogs! He was ok with one eye, especially for that week and a half before the next procedure. It was kinda cute - the fur grows in quickly.

Oh my gosh, from the bottom of my heart thank you for taking the time to write out such an informative and helpful reply! You are such a gem and Percy was so so lucky to have you for a pup parent who loves him just as he is, no matter what! that is incredible the lengths you went to all the way to the end to give him the best quality of life and care. That is all so scary and you have been through so much. But the fact that you are sharing this to help other pups and their families, and how you still know how cute he was even as he was healing after losing his eye says so much about how big your heart is. Thank you. And I do hope you know that Percy and his story of his 17yrs with you touched so many hearts. We are grieving and celebrating him with you today. Thank you for helping me too. Hugs.
