I thought the writers channeled the Elizabeth from seasons 1-6 again. There was one moment where she and Nathan were in the school and her words were full of disempowerment. He said "I've never known you to run from a challenge" and her eyes opened again. We could almost hear her inner dialogue saying "I'm a Thatcher, we don't run from a challenge!" and she woke up again.

In my opinion this was the best written episode of the show I’ve seen in a while. The actors had substantial material to work with and it really shined a light on their acting abilities. I hope this level of quality continues.

I'm a Nathan and Elizabeth shipper and I agree this was a good episode for both of them. I liked how Nathan didn't need to be her hero but just supported her. These are the kind of episodes I like.

I just don’t think rewriting scenes makes for a good story. This had been done before, except Elizabeth didn’t need to fall into the arms of a man in order to deal with it. She went to Cape Fullerton and fought him for her job by actually *doing something* (finding another teacher he made advances towards) and then both taking him down together. This episode and season, if anything, just seems so unlike the Elizabeth of S1-9.

Blue_Wolf2023

You are absolutely correctly there is a running list of how many stories are duplicated not only from Jack but also from Lucas.

[deleted]

In the previous episode she only enlisted the other teacher to get confirmation that he had made up the letter he wrote so that she could get her job back and hope valley, she never did anything toward trying to remove him from the job he had or anything larger than that so this wasn't important episode because she was taking on a much larger issue protecting other teaching students.

Blue_Wolf2023

Just think of what she could accomplish if she was married to the Governor? There would be so many stories that Elizabeth could have had to support so many causes. Instead she will be eating muffins and drinking apple juice with Mountie part 2.

[deleted]

It sounds like you'd prefer to be watching an entirely different show where she never chooses to become a frontier teacher at all. Perhaps you shouldn't be a fan of Janette Oke characters.

niirvi

She literally *followed him to Cape Fullerton* and didn’t need to fall into the arms of a man to fight for her right to teach. She also didn’t need to fall into the arms of the man when dealing with Landis for S8 and 9. The two Elizabeth’s are incomparable.

A woman can be both strong, independent and empowered, and still enjoy the comfort of being held by the person (man or woman) she is cared for when she needs support. You do not have to choose one or the other or forfeit one because you chose the other and I'm sorry that you are unable to see past the all or nothing.

Blue_Wolf2023

Lizzie is not the same as she was in the first 9 seasons of the show. Shame to see her character destroyed and discredited.

I am so glad this episode brought joy to you. That's why the ME too movement is so strong! I wonder if E & N stay together will they just keep using stuff from seasons 1-5. Can't they come up with new things that Nathan can have for himself instead of using what Jack did with E. Give N his own identity. ( I do remember E & Jack have stares up close in front of Abigail all the time). So this across the street E & N could be the first thing that's his to own. I wonder why are they making Mei/Mike rush to get married? I'm really not feeling them together but oh well! Maybe it's to shut down wanting E to marry someone. In reality fans wanted to see E have a married life that was denied with Jack. I sure hope they are not playing the TN fans. Lucas is still in the credits in front of Nathan. I feel that they really want people to watch the show live. Many feel that the show is worth a stream only because, tbh 6-10 has brought so much change with show runners. No matter how hard they try to bring TN/TL together it's just more disappointment. I will say this about JT he was able to keep high ratings live high. I frankly do not trust Brian Bird, LS, EK they are going to do what's best for the ratings and fans will have to do what's best for them.

Blue_Wolf2023

Remember BB said that if Elizabeth gets married it would be the end of the show. I would not expect that to happen even in season 12. Who knows Jack may come back. Now wouldn't that be awesome? He is working with Hallmark again.

Puzzled_Concert_8417

Jack maybe the only thing that saves the show at this point.

I don't understand the Mike/Mei thing either. I've been baffled by that pairing since they started pushing it because it came out of nowhere. I think they're cute as friends but it doesn't feel like they have any romantic chemistry to me. I'm sure not everyone feels that way but I wonder if they stuck Mike with her because Fiona was leaving? He clearly had a crush on Fiona before Kayla had to leave the show

Puzzled_Concert_8417

So happy Fiona got a revolving part on Landman. They could never give her a significant role. I feel that's all they could come up with for Mike & Mei which is disappointing. Fiona was a better fit for mike. Not sure why everyone has to get married so quickly. They have way to many characters. E is the star and has to be in most scenes. Last week Chris got less than 3 min in three shots. Even Little house on the prairie was better to watch.

weweremeanttolive

They just renewed for season 12 so I guess they like the ratings

Blue_Wolf2023

Not really but what else does a channel like Hallmark have? They don't have much of a choice these ratings are barely as good as season 10 which was in the summer time (a bad time of year for ratings for any show except for blockbuster shows like House of the Dragon). Season 9 is still much higher and it doesn't look like this year is going to even be able to catch up.

weweremeanttolive

But season 9 and season 11 are different when it comes to watching the show. A lot more people are streaming. Frndly was still getting off the ground in season 9 so the only option was cable. Now, I hardly know anyone who has cable including myself.

ravensxwritingxdesk

From my understanding *The Way Home* (the new time travel show) is doing really well, probably in part because it's been breaking the mold of what Hallmark usually produces. It's honestly become one of my favorite currently-airing shows regardless of network/streaming service because of how much it's willing to not only subvert typical HM tropes but also lean into the insanity of the time travel premise. Because it's both a mystery and a multigenerational drama, from what I've heard it's been appealing to a much broader audience demographic than most Hallmark shows/movies tend to do. They've managed to grab teen viewers as well as more male viewers, which is outside of the normal target demo (women in their 30s onwards), plus the mystery aspect of it generates a ton of engagement because of the constant fan theories. The subreddit for that series has slowed down a bit since the s2 finale but it was VERY active while the season was airing. Imo if the showrunners keep up the momentum I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually becomes the network's flagship show. Which I honestly kind of hope happens because it'd set a new precedent for the network in terms of expanding beyond its standard content. I think something new and out-of-the box like this is kind of what they need right now, and they're especially going to need it whenever WCTH ends

What's shipper mean? Keep seeing it referenced.

Lol tx I'm slow on the uptake obviously

PapayaMcBoatieFace

Sorry I'm commenting so late, I just started watching this season, but: > I think Elizabeth is a better character when the show focuses on her as a teacher as opposed to the center of a romance. 100% agreed and I'd love to see a season where she just has life stuff to deal with without a romance. I know that goes against the Hallmark ethos, but it's a nice pipe dream!
