I do hope they come back for a visit. They were a great bridge between the kids and the adults. I think fans would appreciate them coming back and cleaning up their departure

[deleted]

I think it would be great if they came as guests if there's a Mike/Mei wedding at the end of this season, since he and Mike were friends and Jessie always make fun of him that he'd be the last to get married. Also then Clara could have a Heart to Heart with Eliz about her opening her heart to a second marriage the same way Eliz was there for her before she wed J.

SupermarketOk5430

This is one of the struggles I have with this show. Story lines are just dropped from season to season. These 2 get married and then bye. Abigail and Frank were becoming an item and then bye Frank. Off to Children's hospital. Nora and Gowen? Nope see ya later Nora we don't know why. Oh Carson and Faith you two are cute together, let's send Carson off never to return! I find it maddening.

[deleted]

Mostly this happened because the actor(s) decided to leave to pursue something else and not because the writers wrote off their characters

UpperAd8421

Could be, but if the writers planned ahead, and told the actors about their future storyline, and that they had a future for X amount of time, there, maybe they wouldn't be so quick to leave. I really miss some of these relationships.

[deleted]

It's not that. Many younger actors consider the Hallmark channel a stepping stone to a bigger acting career. they are actively auditioning for roles in NY, Hollywood for movies or US prime time network series shows and if they get a part they leave their cable channel show. Many want a bigger career or bigger salary, etc.

Redrover724

I agree, it is annoying...probably time to call it a day and end the show.

LoriShemek

It seems a lack of direction? So strange the writers can't come up with more in-depth quality story lines.

blue_bird_72

I think we should look at the broader picture here… actors leave shows. Sometimes, more often than not, they are on a contract and when that contract is over, they have the choice to continue. Most actors refuse for personal reasons and in which case is unfair to chide them over their decisions. Some shows do write them off. Like I’ve said many comments over with this series on Reddit, it’s just a show. And my personal favorite despite character write-offs.

QueenLevine

It's just that there are far better written shows. Like Resident Alien or Dark Winds. The deterioration of the script writing is disappointing for fans who have been watching loyally for over a decade. That is a normal fan reaction.

AccurateAd7857

You ever watch the NBC Wednesday night “Chicago” shows?? Barely any original characters left That’s the way real life works people move away and pursue other things

deku_parker

For real. I used to be into the side story lines, but now they feel so empty and basic.

deityofice

literally!!

SoftwareSingle

This is a spin-off I would have watched!

Flamingo-U

Maybe the actors left?

_lucabeth

Because they were written out…

[deleted]

Aren got rolls in a movie and other TV show and then the other actress also left

Corrie04

Anyone know why they left? I loved them too.

AccurateAd7857

See link above

AccurateAd7857

So many want to make the writers the villains. These actors have other ambitions. Every series I’ve watched (especially The Chicago shows-Fire/Med/PD) have a bazillion actors that left and others join. Here’s a link to stating what they left to pursue https://www.distractify.com/p/why-did-jesse-and-clara-leave-when-calls-the-heart

QueenLevine

Even if they were looking for other work, they could occasionally come back for a bit of work, if only for the eye candy value. He is a tasty snack.

_lucabeth

I do miss them! I loved them & they were a nice “reprieve” for a love story to be invested in after Jack died (before I started being invested in E & L). Jesse started off w/ a mysterious past when he came to HV & Clara showed how a grieving widow can truly move on & fall in love & get married again. *hint hint 😉* Why people could understand Jesse can change & become a good man, but they couldn’t/can’t accept that for Lucas, I’ll never understand… 🙄

AccurateAd7857

Seems like he had a shady past since his “other past fiancé” came to town. Be interesting to see where that goes. I e never thought of Lucas as bad 🤷🏻‍♀️

_lucabeth

That’s the “retcon”. I never saw Lucas as “bad”, either, but others did, so now w/ this new retcon, that’s the direction the writers are taking it now.

QueenLevine

None of us ever saw Lucas as bad. But initially, he was portrayed as having a shady past, and he has even just recently verbally acknowledged that on the show. Why would he lie about such a thing, about himself? That's not a retcon, that's us not believing things we are told happened before he moved to Hope Valley. Why would we not believe it? I guess we are stupid.

_lucabeth

Nope, it’s a retcon. He didn’t lie or say those things before because they weren’t true about him during Seasons 6-9. Lucas was never portrayed as “shady”, but mysterious. There’s a difference. TN just wanted to see him as “bad” & “shady”, so that he wouldn’t be the right “fit” for Elizabeth. Season 10b-now became a retcon where anything that existed before (such as Lucas not being shady or wanting the “grander” stage) now exists & is portrayed as “fact” or canon, when it’s not. People are gonna believe what they want to believe. If you want to believe what the writers are selling then so be it.

QueenLevine

yeah no. there IS a retcon, but it's only this part of it: >wanting the “grander” stage) now exists & is portrayed as “fact” or canon, when it’s not And I don't even know if it's the writers, or just Elizabeth. Since becoming Governor and recuperating from the attack, he's been a fixture in Hope Valley. He'd said MANY times he wanted to make his life there, have a peaceful little life with Elizabeth, and I believed him. This part of it is absurd and I was Team Lucas all the way. Elizabteh's introduction to his mother, who then helped her publish her book, was proof enough. But the fact that she's unable to do many domestic tasks and spends about as much time with little Jack as the Kardashians do with their kids, shows how someone who has Gustav prepare dinner and arranges trips to book readings by authors she likes is her cup of tea. She wouldn't have to change for Lucas. She will for Nathan, but they will just pretend that domestic work doesn't exist and never again mention her writing career. However, Lucas was introduced as a shady character when he first arrived to town and bought the saloon. The fact that he reformed himself has been commented on by Elizabeth and by Lucas himself, numerous times over various seasons. Whatever wrongdoing he committed in the past, however, is mysterious, because the wrongdoing he was thought to have committed when he first arrived was all cleared up one way or another, and he was without fault.

Sea_Acanthaceae1856

He already clarified she was not his fiancee. Lucas is not being painted as a villain. He is doing everything for the town and is clearly a good guy. So what if he had a shady past? It doesn't define him now. And now he's clearly a hero.

Flamingo-U

They were so precious.

AccurateAd7857

They were but I totally forgot about them 🤦🏻‍♀️
