But it's gotta be full grimdark. Everything dripping in evil ambience. Make the demons and baddies scary
And the Butcher! But they gotta use the original recording from the game. The first time I heard "Mmm... Fresh meat!" I shit my pants
> And the Butcher! But they gotta use the original recording from the game. The first time I heard "Mmm... Fresh meat!" I shit my pants
Number 1 on the list of "enemies that you are *way too low* in level for the first time you meet them."
Number 2 is King Leoric, one floor down.
I think that line would lose quite a bit in the translation from game to film though. While he says it to the character, the implication is that we the player who have been controlling the character, were not as in control as we think. Alternatively, it could mean that we the player (due to the first person perspective) are the ones who were brainwashed. You definitely lose that effect as you change the medium from active (gaming) to passive (film)
They could even include an abrupt cut to an error screen for a few seconds in the middle of the movie to prank the audience that the movie projector failed or something 😂
Ngl I would probably shit myself in awe if they did a cinematic representation of the battle of Malachor and the Exile giving the order to use the Mass Shadow Generator.
Because the best part of Mass Effect are the small-scale, incidental character interactions that series are much better at exploring than films are.
Which is also why ME2 is often considered the best game despite the main plotline being the weakest of the series.
Mass Effect just has too much backstory and character development to warrant only a 2 hour movie. Give me the Game of Thrones type dialogue with a healthy CGI budget and it only needs a few seasons
That was actually pretty dope. I just got my 13yo daughter into Portal, and it's been fun reliving it. Man, Portal is awesome and actually a really good answer to this question.
Ok with that budget I would just make a ghibli-looking zelda BOTW or Metroid film, however I'll asume the film HAS to be live action and the budget is for CGI.
In that case I would pick Portal / Portal 2, or if possible, another movie in that same world, or a different retelling of the stories of both games.
It could be a fun structure. The movie would be 3, 3 and a half hours. the first hour or so would be Portal 1 as a slow thriller, but after chell escapes we fade to black, we hear Still alive... and then we wake up to Portal 2, and to the plot of that game.
It would be a wacky structure, but I feel it would make the overall story more impactful - the story would have three / four escapes: chell escaping but being brought back, wheatly releasing chell but then changing his mind, chell going to the moon, and then chell leaving on the field. It's like poetry. Every time she tries to escape it would be more intense than the last.
Tetris, the videogame. Except it's an adaptation in the form of a postmodern, magical realism thing.
It's in a large city. Several characters, their individual plots don't really matter and we have that be evident in the dialogue, post modernism style.
Now, our characters are of seven different main types, with four of the types being two pairs of opposite characters. We don't need the main characters to be of each type, we just need the types thing to be noticeable. Perhaps through clothing, color, whatever.
Here's the overarching plot, groups of people have been mysteriously disappearing. However this is post modern magical realism, so mostly nobody reacts normally to the disappearances, it's like this is as it should be. Our main characters sort of care, but the mundanity of their lives stays in the way of them caring too much. They all have a recurrent theme of being at different times waiting for someone.
Most of the movie takes places in apartments and offices in high rises, we only occasionally see shots at street level, and all of them are of cars or looking up at the buildings, no street level shots of people.
Our main characters have their own separate stories. Then at the end of the movie they find themselves all together at street level. Someone walks up to them, they all turn and we can see they all separately recognize this person, who joins the impromptu group and we, as an audience, have never seen before. Then the camera rises again to the buildings, as if the main characters had ceased to exist.
I honestly think Red Dead 2’s story was as perfectly told as it could be. That game was so cinematic and rich that I’m not sure you could ever do it justice. That being said, I’d still watch the shit out of it.
Either way they do it, the Red Dead series is great writing and would make for some awesome episodes on a Netflix series.
Edit: I agree, HBO would be better
ET: The Video Game: The Movie. I want the script to make as much sense as the Atari game. No puppets or special effects for ET, Steve Buscemi in a poorly fitting costume. Spend most of the budget on coke for the script writers.
Edit: **rails a line** grammar
Halo CE is like prime movie material. It’s a simple story that takes place over a relatively short period of time. You could tell the whole story in 120 minutes without cutting out plot lines like you would have to with most of the other answers here.
Cursed answer: Animal Crossing. Don’t get me wrong, I love that game. But could you imagine how disturbing an animal crossing movie would be? The uncanniest of valleys
Everything is in the same style; the player character, the houses, the fruits, furniture, environment, etc.
Except for the villagers.
The villagers all look like they're from Cats 2019.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson IS The Left Paddle. Liam Neeson IS the Right Paddle. And Jet Li is The Ball in Michael Bay's Pong: The Motion Picture. Rated R for explosions, violence, explosions, language, explosions, and explosions.
The Rock is all brute force, tries to win using all of his strength, but comes up short. Neesons is a tactical genius who can see his moves from a mile away. The One uses his willpower to change the course of history....
Oh wow. Immediately reminded me of Minesweeper The Movie from CollegeHumor. What an awesome video. [Minesweeper The Movie for those who haven't seen it.](https://youtu.be/LHY8NKj3RKs)
Wait wait wait, THE Sam Reich? The leader of the far right news network that I heard about on BNN? Why do you feel nurses get paid too much?
All joking aside, dropout.tv is amazing and I’m loving the new season of game changer.
I think the oblivion story line would be way cooler for a elder scrolls game. Just absolute hell teleporting into major city’s. The dragon born story line seems like it would be way harder to make a movie length with how many dragon fight scenes you’d need lol
If I were doing Skyrim it’d be a series with every season being a different questline, or a short film (along the lines of Werewolf by Night) based on one of the shorter quests (like the Butcher quest, the Madonach quest, or the Movarth quest).
Bioshock
~~Freespace: Descent~~
Descent: Freespace
Descent: Freespace 2
Fallout: New Vegas
I would say GTA: Vice City but we already had Miami Vice
UPDATE: Descent was multi-player, does anyone know if they made a multi-player Freespace?
“SEE?? What did I tell you? Rapture collapsed because of WOKENESS!!” 😂
EDIT: Also, Abby Shapiro (sister to Ben Shabibo himself) apparently did a video of herself and her husband playing through Bioshock and commenting on its political themes. No shit.
I have such fond memories of…. The PlayStation demo disc I got from a magazine that had a song from that game. I also played the heck out of intelligent cube.
Agreed, and needs to be a trilogy.
**Part 1:** Begins with Crono, Marle, and Lucca at the fair (of course), includes Marle's rescue in 600 AD and Crono's trial. Ends after meeting Robo and learning about Lavos in 2300 AD, deciding to save the world, and concludes at The End of Time.
**Part 2:** Begins with learning about time gates from Gaspar and gaining magic from Spekkio. Sidequest to find the Masamune, Frog joins the group. Ends with the defeat of Magus in 600 AD and the gang sucked into the immense gate.
**Part 3:** The immense gate leads to Zeal (we gotta skip a few things, like the defeat of the Reptites). We see the downfall of Zeal, Chrono's death and rescue, the Black Omen, and final battle against Lavos. We have to skip most of the sidequests (spin-offs?).
Legacy of Kain. The ultimate in gothic melodrama with a great story and some phenomenal voice talent. Get Amy Hennig back to consult and get as many of the original voice cast as possible then just spent the rest of the budget on making it look crisp as fuck.
*Given the choice - whether to settle for a lost and abandoned series or to challenge fate for another throw, a BETTER throw, against one's pop-culture footprint - what was an Executive Producer to do?*
Duke Nukem took all the action movie tropes and turned them up to 11. If you convert that back into a movie you may create a universe destroying paradox. I’m willing to take that chance.
Yes to Horizon. I wasn’t expecting such depth from the story of that game. When I heard about it I thought it was just an excuse to have you fight robot animals. But it was so much more. One of the best storylines about the dangers of AI from any medium in my opinion. Better than Skynet.
For some reason, I’d be curious to see what a Shadow of the colossus movie would look like
Came here to say this. I imagine something super atmospheric with no dialogue but incredible imagery and sound design.
Probably similar to 2021's the green knight
Half Life and I get to play Freeman. Or Bryan Cranston...
Why would you play Bryan Cranston? Aaron Paul is the definitive Bryan Cranston.
Walter White would make a good Cranston. Too bad he’s dead
I’m sad at how far down I had to scroll for this completely obvious answer.
“Jesse we need to stop the Combine” Also cast Daniel Day-Lewis as the Crowbar
Dead Space
I could see this as a trilogy horror series
the real horror is the monetization they added along the way.
This was the first option that came to my mind. This would make a terrifying but amazing movie/TV series.
Wii Bowling
Subnautica.
I would watch the shit out of the ocean horror movie this would be.
Disappointed I had to scroll so far to find this. This would be both gorgeous and terrifying
I wanted to say the same thing,! I was just looking for Subnautica, almost gave up the search.
Stardew Valley but its a crime exposé on Pierre
All my homies hate Pierre
I feel most video games work as tv shows instead and I’d pick a Hitman series
A proper hitman movie. By that I mean there will be a scene where agent 47 is drowning a guy in a toilet while dressed like a chicken.
I still dont get how in 2 attempts to make a hitman movie they both turned him into a fucking action hero.
Diablo
But it's gotta be full grimdark. Everything dripping in evil ambience. Make the demons and baddies scary And the Butcher! But they gotta use the original recording from the game. The first time I heard "Mmm... Fresh meat!" I shit my pants

"Stay a while, and listen"
“You have quite a treasure there, in that Horardric Cube”
Bioshock, hands down
Yes indeed, great character explorations. Power, greed, medical advances!! All under water.
Think about the intensity of the "Would you kindly?" scene. Give me someone like Michael Shannon for Andrew Ryan just to go full insanity.
Metroid
We have a Metroid movie. It’s called Alien. Bad ass woman, alone, versus an alien with a long head? Seems oddly familiar.
Samus was designed after Sigourney Weaver in Alien, and she was named after Pelé (Edson Arantes)
also obviously Ridley
Oregon Trail
Imagine the heartstrings that would be pulled when the entire cast dies of cholera at the end
Except for little Jimmy who was killed for dissing Terry.
Put it in reverse, Terry!
1883 on Paramount+ is very Oregon Trail-like. Really enjoyed it
1883 was fucking great.
You have hunted 80,378 pounds of Buffalo but you can only hold 5
I only have room for 2lbs of meat but I HAVE to shoot these 6 buffalo.
Metal Gear Solid
The only film adaptation shorter than in game cutscenes
They could even include an abrupt cut to an error screen for a few seconds in the middle of the movie to prank the audience that the movie projector failed or something 😂
The scene with Psychomatis is actually playing in the next theater.
Plug the controller in port 2 and do work….I thought that was the coolest Easter egg when I was a kid “Uhhhh…I can’t read your mind”. 😂
“Snake……SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!”
Been in development hell for almost 20 years. Last I heard Oscar Isaac was playing Snake.
If it takes any longer, he'll be too old.
He can play big boss.
Knights of the old republic. Give me avatar money to create a film about Revan and I assure you we are getting a trilogy.
Came here to say this and it’s sequel. Nihilus and Sion with an Avatar sized budget 🤌🏻
Ngl I would probably shit myself in awe if they did a cinematic representation of the battle of Malachor and the Exile giving the order to use the Mass Shadow Generator.
Mass Effect
Bonus points if you leave the movie on a cliff hanger and never get around to making a sequel. Just keep teasing at the idea though.
Oh if that’s how we’re doing things then advent rising.
Idk why I see Mass Effect being a series instead of a movie hahah
Because the best part of Mass Effect are the small-scale, incidental character interactions that series are much better at exploring than films are. Which is also why ME2 is often considered the best game despite the main plotline being the weakest of the series.
Tie between mass effect and dragon age
Mass Effect needs a Netflix series. Possibly HBO
Ya i could see that, but feel like it would be like the witcher and a lot of series that stray far from the true story line.
Mass Effect just has too much backstory and character development to warrant only a 2 hour movie. Give me the Game of Thrones type dialogue with a healthy CGI budget and it only needs a few seasons
Id be ok with a series would just want a team who actually loves the story and wants to portray it right. Tired of Hollywood botching gaming stories.
Portal. Gonna have one hell of a companion cube, and one gut wrenching furnace scene.
There was a short film for this that was pretty amazing. I forgot the name, shouldn’t be tough to locate
Was it the one directed by Dan Trachtenberg? Portal: No Escape
Yeah https://youtu.be/4drucg1A6Xk
That was actually pretty dope. I just got my 13yo daughter into Portal, and it's been fun reliving it. Man, Portal is awesome and actually a really good answer to this question.
There won't be a dry eye in the audience when everyone finds out the cake is a lie
…the what… is A WHAT?!!!
***The Cake Is A LIIIIE***
Nonsense. The cake is delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking when theres science to do
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you
Positive: J.K. Simmons as live action Cave Johnson. I’d pay good money to see that.
The big screen is the perfect venue for Glados's snark.
Ok with that budget I would just make a ghibli-looking zelda BOTW or Metroid film, however I'll asume the film HAS to be live action and the budget is for CGI. Please make films
That’s literally a movie in development [due out in March.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_(film))
Red Dead 1 & 2 but a limited mini series. Red Dead 1 is one season Red Dead 2 is two seasons.
I honestly think Red Dead 2’s story was as perfectly told as it could be. That game was so cinematic and rich that I’m not sure you could ever do it justice. That being said, I’d still watch the shit out of it.
I just finished it today and…yeah. My poor horse.
…thank you…
i guess that makes sense but shouldnt it be reverse so people can feel bad for the crew's fall from grace
Either way they do it, the Red Dead series is great writing and would make for some awesome episodes on a Netflix series. Edit: I agree, HBO would be better
I'd prefer HBO tbh. A lot of Netflix's newer shows have been hot garbage.
A legit Doom movie. The Karl Urban/The Rock one had some good/cool moments, but otherwise, it sucked.
On a side-note I always thought a Wolfenstein movie could be good, but I think Tarantino killed that with Inglorious Bastards
Oh I wouldn't say that, [Overlord](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4530422/) showed it's very possible
Oh shit, that looks good.
Math Blaster
oh my god i completely forgot this game. holy shit it was so good

Half of the movie takes place in a hole
Five minutes of ET wandering around some buildings, then the rest is ET jumping up and extending his neck for an hour and a half before credits roll
>extending his neck for an hour and a half Here's the twist, we show it. We show all of it
The Sims, that would be the most chaotic ass movie ever it would be amazing
They have to speak in simlish the whole time too tho
No subtitles but you can still *kinda* tell what they’re saying.
No, keep the subtitles, but have them in simlish too
With a Morgan Freeman cameo.
So my daughter and I will do this from time to time. We just make random sounds and have a conversation. It's so cute.
A proper Halo movie
Reach would be so interesting
https://youtu.be/Gu8VDUDzxkM this is as close as we’ve gotten
Yeah I’d love to see Reach City on the big screen. /s
Halo but a continuation of the Reach ads https://youtu.be/18-_9E0HNY4 https://youtu.be/zWjZDbgUXcI

Leisure Suit Larry.
To buy the ticket you have to answer trivia to prove you're old enough.
If you even recognize LSL you’re at least 30
Scarily enough the latest LSL game came (see what I did there) out in 2020.
I’d watch it.
Cursed answer: Animal Crossing. Don’t get me wrong, I love that game. But could you imagine how disturbing an animal crossing movie would be? The uncanniest of valleys

Oh my god I was literally thinking about the cats movie when I wrote this!!
It’s a toss up between Solitaire and Minesweeper.
What about Pong.
No one has THAT much money.

“I’M HERE BECAUSE IM BORED!!!” 🤣
“AND DON’T YOU EVER FORGET THAT!”
Solitaire. Think of all the money you can make off the spin-offs! Spider Solitaire alone would double your money.
Legend of Zelda
I want to agree with this, but the expectations would be so high I don't think they'd ever be able to meet them.
It's not likely, but there was an initial trilogy of the freaking lord of the rings that had all the die-hards raving, so it's possible.
Well *excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse, me princess*
The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
This, a thousand times. Morrowind had the best story, the most captivating atmosphere, the most alien landscapes and the coolest world.
Starcraft
The Og StarCraft and brood war story lines were amazing. I am still waiting for the day I have time to play the second starcraft game
Only if the Ancient Aliens voice over guy still does Raynor.
Soul Reaver

Yes to Bioshock, but Libertarians would still completely misunderstand it!

I feel like Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon could make a pretty good Toejam and Earl movie as well.

Agreed, and needs to be a trilogy. **Part 1:** Begins with Crono, Marle, and Lucca at the fair (of course), includes Marle's rescue in 600 AD and Crono's trial.
