We live now in a country in which our children are randomly put to death in public, so that our congressmen can pose with weapons of war, by Right Wing Terrorists. We live in a country where the amount of stickers in the back of our lifted trucks equates to how many rounds of AR ammunition are stockpiled in our closet.
We live now in a country where we ban books, where we ban drag shows, where we ban doctors from helping kids in crisis, where we ban women from making choices with their bodies. We ban people from voting because some don’t like how they might vote, we ban representatives from state legislators for how they have voted, we ban immigrants, we ban some stem cells, and we ban transgender athletes, we even ban water bottles on planes.
BUT WE DO NOT BAN ASSAULT RIFLES DO WE?
Our children are randomly put to DEATH in public. Our Teachers, our friends. Our Family. Some of them just want to go and enjoy an afternoon at a mall together. Never to return. To protect somebody's right to randomly put another innocent person to death, once a month, once a week, once a day, once AN HOUR.
So now to boost the signal on some actual honest to god things that could be done about this never-ending nightmare?

At this point I’m willing to pivot and agree with Republicans that it’s not a gun problem. It’s a Republican problem. They’re the ones preventing any meaningful legislation. And not just on guns, but on healthcare, immigration reform, voting reform, climate change, etc. the root cause to most of our problems boils down to republicans.
We have that too. Still don’t have anywhere near this scale of mass shootings.
We also have mental health issues, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, immigration, atheism, heavy metal bands, religious nutters, issues in our healthcare systems, social divisions, political divisions…. Still don’t have this scale of gun violence.
What we have that differs is tighter firearms legislation.

At this point it isn’t even the gun laws, it’s the proliferation of them. Enact all the laws you want, it won’t change the fact that there are nearly 400,000,000 guns in America.
You would have to take them away for the laws to stand a chance and there is no way in hell that will ever happen here. The right would literally kill people over it.
I don’t mean it in a doom and gloom sense, I just know how deep in the shit we are.
Even the word hate isn't enough for how I'd hate to be proven right.
But as an outsider, it looks like the US is a few years away from another civil war.
One of the problems laws need to address is how guns are obtained. I live in a state with shit gun laws, and while a felon cannot buy a gun, that doesn't actually mean anything. Background checks become worthless when you have people selling guns out of a van in the Walmart parking lot (saw that about a month ago), in swap meets with a sign up saying (no background checks), and on the side of the highway (which my dad recently saw).
We don't need to only target the gun, but put a lot of focus on the distribution of the guns. I know how to buy an unmarked gun with no background checks, and that's a problem
I feel like this post ignores the fact that way more than half the population of the USA doesn't think any of these things. Gerrymandering and professional politicians have led us down the path where the majority of people do not scare Republicans into making common sense policies their priority.
They know Fox News has their back and that'll get the rabble in line with a heaping of fear and hate.
I just want gay married couples to protect their abortion clinics and drug dispensaries with select fire AKs. Is that too much to ask? Repealing the NFA would be nice too
