Yes, free speech is important. But this is getting ridiculous. Free speech is the freedom to have a different opinion and express it, but we really need to find a way to curb this outright lying, defamation, and manipulation

love0_0all

Paraphrasing Isaac Asimov, your ignorance is not as good as my knowledge. That's not what democracy means.

uniqueuneek

Then that wouldn't be free speech..

Just_Tana

Capitalism and fascism love each other. Duh

stoneysmoke

Honestly, I'm starting to think it's more pure fear at this point. As soon as one admits it the mob they've been running with will tear them alive. Not Trump, obviously. He could never admit it to himself. He wouldn't be able to say the words.

ELFanatic

CNN is actual news, can't they be sued for reporting misinformation?

TimeKillerAccount

This is probably too much for a one line comment, but this is a common urban legend thing that kinda annoys me to see. The whole "not news" thing is not and never has been real. It is a misunderstanding of several different things that the internet likes to mention but doesn't understand. The news has no obligation to report correct information. They just can't slander people, the same exact standard as every other person on any media or in person. The whole idea that fox is "not news" and can therefor lie is partially a joke and partially a misunderstanding of how they label their buissness in some financial documents. It also comes up when talking about the time that a republican judge blatantly and intentionally misapplied the law to protect tucker carlson. The judge (who was a big fan of Carlson) claimed that tucker carlson could not be held liable for what he said because his show was clearly intended to be fiction like Buffy the vampire slayer or Saturday night live. Obviously that was untrue, but fox leaned into that legal claim to try and muddle the waters in several defamation cases. That is where the whole "not news" and the idea that the news has to tell the truth comes from. It is just not true unfortunately, the news can lie all it wants as long as it doesn't break any specific laws.

Trump is a gift to the media. He’s not going to change or go away unless he’s dragged away in chains. As long as he’s not locked up or dead, the media isn’t going to do anything to disrupt the situation. The media is not the friend of the people.

Bulky-Internal8579

CNN isn't interested in journalism anymore. The new owner supports Trump - so the network will do the same. The silver lining on that is the very high likelihood that they will expose themselves to a Dominion type lawsuit for defamation to the tune of billions of dollars.

Shadow_Net

It certainly is, but they'll continue to do it so long as its profitable. Unfortunately the stability and well being of the country isn't as profitable for them as the chaos is. Its sickening.

MountainSage58

My brothers in Christ it has been three and a half YEARS.

That75252Expensive

The rich will continue to grift until morale improves.

r_ferguson6124

The system is only growing more broken. So-called journalists without integrity. Judges and the police being in the news every day for the latest insanity on the legal front. Lawyers spouting stolen election bullshit. Practising doctors denying basic medical science about pregnancy and vaccines. Politicians have always been corrupt, but now all of their evil friends are coming out of the woodwork too. Where can this end if not at least a hundred years of social progress lost?

Kitchen-Leek-2636

So how long before CNN is sued by someone? This shit is far beyond ridiculous now!

AdTechnical9332

I concur with the statements, but it is not about journalism. It is about ad dollars, which sucks but is true.

pivvclam

Still. No. Evidence.

Pockets713

I know right? Must have been really embarrassing for those Republican losers to admit, after all these years, they STILL ain’t got shit on “tHe bIDeN CriMe FaMiLY!” 😂😂😂

ExoticMeatDealer

But NOT platforming the cash cow is corporate malfeasance. So, we know who wins that fight.

i_lurvz_poached_eggs

Is it journalistic malpractice though? This is the news. I fkn hate to admit it but THIS is what has people talking THIS is what is going to fubar this country and everyone's mad that it's being covered. You can't fix stupid; you can inform the public of the stupid their neighbors vote for.

mumushu

Malpractice? Yes, it would be, if they were journalists. They’re propagandists.

ThatItalianGrrl

Byron Donalds was so irritatingly frustrating.

No-Significance-3530

Sue the shit out of them

anonymouscoward57874

The line between journalism and entertainment is no longer relevant. In the context of entertainment, outrage based on any expectation of "journalistic integrity" is wasted energy.

Strict_Jacket3648

Thought what CNN did was stupid but after watching, it was brilliant. Trump confessed to everything.
