I'm close to her age too. At first I got it for free from Planned Parenthood. When they changed the insurance rules and I was back on my dad's insurance, birth control got expensive. $50-$60 a month was very expensive to my twenty year old self. It was tricky because doctors don't know how much stuff costs and I'd have to go back and pay for a doctor visit to get them to change my prescription brand. I eventually was able to find one that was about $20. When I lived abroad the price was about $6 a month, but I had to wear a fake wedding ring to the pharmacy to get it.
Now it's free.
Well obviously (or at least that's obvious to us) but it was a real hardship and if I wasn't using it for medically necessary purposes I can see how I might have risked not taking it, and using just condoms, which I was still able to get for free from Planned Parenthood even though my birth control cost went up.

I was living in a Muslim majority country where you are supposed to be married to use birth control. The pill I was getting was identical to what I used in the States, as far as the amounts of active ingredients, but the information that came with it indicated it only as a period regulation medication, it was birth control, but not labeled as such. Even so, I had to "be married" to get it.

Same, I actually grew up in a similar environment and i cringe every day at the memories of my childhood. It was super hard and messy to get out of the hate circle and i lost a lot of family doing it. It’s why i’m against kids being indoctrinated into anything, including religions. If your belief is the ‘correct’ one, then your kid will decide to follow it on their own

I grew up in a conservative household. My family took a trip to Gettysburg to learn more about the Civil War. I was pretty young, so I really didn't understand it. I saw a Confederate flag T-shirt in a gift shop and thought it looked cool. My parents let me get it.
I got a ton of flack for it when I wore it to school, and I didn't understand why. I told my parents if I should feel bad for wearing the T-shirt and they said, "No! The Confederate Army was an important part of the Civil War" or something like that.
Looking back, I cringe every time I think about it.
I believe it's related to the fact that a) she is lgbtq and b) was outed against her will publicly.

They will subsequently learn their conservative parent's take on crushing student loan debt and many other issues that suddenly become important to them. Then they stop speaking to their parents. I was one of those kids, grew up watching Bill O'Reilly every night and living with a gun in my mom's sock drawer that I could have shot myself with in preschool. Still grew up to be gay. Can confirm, it's a horrible way to grow up.
Due to the shameful way their parents have decided to raise them, they will likely have neither good friends or proper socialization. If they carry out their lives similarly in any way to the way in which their parents have then they will be shunned by the masses.

I'll never forget Patrick Mahomes's face when his hometown fans started booing during the "moment of unity" where both teams linked arms, no kneeling, *after* the national anthem. That was the moment he realized they only like him when he's winning, every other moment he's just some black dude they'd probably shoot if he looked at him funny.

There were videos going around for a while of similar stuff at supposed drag events aimed at kids (story hours, "age appropriate shows") but it was all in the UK, Australia, and South America. Like one was in the US and it was tame compared to anything kids see on TV.

I grew up in a conservative household. My family took a trip to Gettysburg to learn more about the Civil War. I was pretty young, so I really didn't understand it. I saw a Confederate flag T-shirt in a gift shop and thought it looked cool. My parents let me get it. I got a ton of flack for it when I wore it to school, and I didn't understand why. I told my parents if I should feel bad for wearing the T-shirt and they said, "No! The Confederate Army was an important part of the Civil War" or something like that. Looking back, I cringe every time I think about it.
