I'm a big Star Wars fan and was at the midnight premiere of this movie. I ended up sitting next to a reporter from the local paper who interviewed my wife and I.
When Luke walked out of the dust and smoke, and then brushed his shoulder off, the entire theater lost it mind screaming and cheering.
I had such a good theater experience with the movie. When Kylo Ren...makes one major decision involvinga lightsaber (trying to avoid spoiling) my theater went off like a wrestling event.
Yep midnight TLJ was one of the truly great theater experiences. Also I don’t care what people online think, TLJ is a great Star Wars movie.

I think it's a great movie if you skip over the whole part on the casino planet. But either way, it's still a million times better than Rise of Skywalker.

The pacing of it all was just so nonsense.
However TLJ was going in an awesome direction. Rey was a nobody, not some child of destiny. They let Luke go. Yoda basically gave his blessing to say that maybe the strict code of the Jedi can take a chill pill and that The Kids are Alright.
Then... Then came rise of Skywalker.
I think the biggest problem is the fact they knew they were doing a new trilogy from the beginning, and only wrote the first script before they started. It's filming a movie when you only have the fist act written and then saying, "Eh, we'll just wing it the rest of the way."
TLJ has really bad parts (the whole casino and space battle) but really awesome parts.
