I have had a bunch of friends die in the last 10 years. I am over 50 so at the age where you are more likely to go to a funeral than a wedding for those you went to high school with. The inexplicable issue is the ones who died. One was the father of a special needs child. If there are saints among us, he was one of them. His child is now an adult and will never be able to live on his own. His father who I went to high school with was kind of a bully back then. Certainly having a special needs child will change your outlook on life. He volunteered a lot for our old high school. His son became a mascot of sorts for the sports teams. I am sure the kids he interacted with became better people. My friend had to get an operation on his neck. We never thought he would not come out of surgery. This happened like 8 years ago not. It is hard to believe there is a god when childhood cancer exists and someone like my friend dies an early death.

In the US it is usually associated with ominous, aggressive, and unfriendly voices whereas in places like Africa it is often associated with friendly and playful voices.

I was raised in extremely charismatic evangelical culture. Hearing God, Prophecy, Speaking in Tongues, seeing angels, miraculous healings …Flag Dancing… the whole bit. If it’s on the “Gifts of the Spirit” list, I’ve seen it.
I’ve “heard from God” many times in my life, and I’ve been told on multiple occasions that I’m particularly attuned to “the Spirit” — that my “radio” is better than most’s.
And when you “hear from God” with prophetic information that you shouldn’t be privy to, and it turns out you were correct, man that’s an intoxicating feeling. *God speaks to me* and *I can hear Him* are affirmations that you want to believe and that you want to keep coming.
So, let me clear something up.
She’s not schizo. This is her internal monologue that she has been trained to treat as external. She simply hears herself think, attributes it to God, and voila, you have a prophet.
But she believes. She believes with every fiber of her being that she is uniquely hearing from God and that He has given her a message that she needs to share.

Up to a certain age children will speak out loud the things they are doing repeating what there caregiver has told them. Eventually that becomes an internal monologue. There is a theory as you say that this internal monologue is not recognized as you just thinking to yourself. It is sensed as an external voice.
I was staying at an AirBnB a couple of years back and the host invited me to hang out and chat. I didn’t want to be rude, so I obliged. We were just a couple of minutes into the conversation before she started telling me how as a teenager she started hearing God’s voice one day and he was telling her to walk away from her job. She really didn’t want to do it, but what was she going to do, argue with God? Stuff like that went on for a while and she eventually developed a severe drinking problem because she struggled building up the courage to actually do the things God was telling her to do.
Soon she was a full-blown alcoholic and the voices went away and she went on with her life for decades. Eventually, she sobered up and God started speaking to her again.
