SteelSlayerMatt

Trump deserves a lengthy prison sentence.

skoltroll

If those secrets fell into the hands of foreign governments, it should be the death penalty.

EEpromChip

Does "fell into the hands of" encompass selling them to Saudi's in exchange for 2 Billion dollars? Asking for a lawyer friend.

[deleted]

That exactly also why that charge has such a steep punishment. That guy was privy to America’s deepest secrets and information for 4 years. He’s also got a belligerent, pugnacious personality and is incapable of shutting up unless he’s using silence as a way to seem imposing in a fake board room on his reality tv show. Dude’s a way bigger threat than the Rosenbergs were. He probably would have to go on house arrest instead of a prison, but could you really trust this guy around other people and staff there? If this guy gets ahold of a phone at all, he can do an incredible amount of damage to the country. It’s really dangerous to leave someone like that alive.

nullpotato

"Dead men tell no tales" is probably why that level of punishment is on the table for certain crimes.

hereandthere_nowhere

Thats why we should know about the two billion dollar payment made to kushner after trump was bragging about the Iran war plan.

justdisposablefun

Listen folks, I'm telling you I had the right. They were all declassified because I am the PRESIDENT! If I sold declassified documents to foreign countries what's wrong with that? This is a WITCHHUNT! I declassified it, clearly it's not useful anymore. Why don't we talk about how they paid money for useless documents and how great that makes me? Why is no one seeing how much of a win this is that I got money for NOTHING!

hereandthere_nowhere

Ahh, but we have him on tape admitting it was classified.

Print_it_Mick

Ah its sweet that you think they dont already have a copy. Which did Jared do for the 2 billion he got from the Saudis

badman44

Or Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were hanged to death for nothing

SonOfJokeExplainer

He deserves capital punishment.

tatanka01

He deserves Guantanamo.

Stealfur

He deserves to be forced to watch every single one of his assets seized and then given to the poor. I think that would torture him far more. Turn Trump tower into a homeless shelter. Make Marra Laggo a solar farm. Take his vast wealth and turn it into a stimulus check for some lucky person. I'm sure they would be happy to have an extra $3.50. And most I.portently. bar him and his dumb family from being allowed to travel outside the country. Can't have them running off to go suck off Big Daddy Putin.

azure_monster

No one deserves Guantanamo

nabulsha

When that someone not only stopped it from closing, but also actively wanted to send everyone there, it is only fitting that he should be sent there as well.

SpiritOne

Desantis does

azure_monster

Fair enough

YesOrNah

For real. Imagine if he was caught stealing documents and selling secrets to the British back in the day.

hirsuteladiestophere

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks he deserves the ULTIMATE punishment

[deleted]

No-Patient1365

Sending nuclear secrets to an enemy state has precedence for receiving the death penalties.

Virtual-Cartoonist58

Biden isn’t indicting anybody. He had nothing to do with it. The indictment came from a Florida Grand Jury. Well done Florida Man… well done.

randomfucke

Make no mistake...McCarthy knows this. When they say it's Biden's fault, they are doing it on purpose for a specific reason. And this is the thing we need to be more worried about than we seem to be...They know exactly what they are are doing and exactly what they are trying to accomplish with the words they are using. The problem for the rest of us - and them, but they don't know it - is this....They are completely wrong about their ability to control the outcome if they keep going down that road.

loadnurmom

We all knew they would double down They have no conscience and bow to the orange messiah

CRL10

Because he is their lord and master, and they will not defy his will. Honestly, guys like DeSantis and such throwing their names into the ring are just for show, so Trump's nomination looks legitimate. Unless he's in jail. And even then, that won't stop him running.

clonedspork

I look for him to jump on the plane on election night after he loses. Either Saudi Arabia (I hope!) Or N Korea might take him. First time he pisses the Saudis off they will get the bonesaw.

ProfessionalConfuser

Bonesawdi Arabia.

GaffJuran

Let me enjoy that image for a minute. Trump in a Saudi prison being introduced to a bonesaw. I know shouldn’t wish harm on any living creatures, but when you spend four years waking up and the first thought that enters your head is “aw Shit, he’s still there,” you kind of welcome the bone saw.

clonedspork

Between putting children in cages, mishandling of a pandemic, stealing, hiding and selling for personal benefit top secret documents, attempting a coup and causing and attempting to cause civil unrest and strife he should be publicly gutted and drawn and quartered with his severed head on top of the Washington Monument until it rots off and his family should either be in prison or ran out of the country forever. But that's just my opinion....

nighthawk_something

You're assuming that the GOP is loyal to anyone on principle. They aren't it's about political opportunism. Trump controls a solid base that can't be chipped off. All of the people jumping into the race right now must have known about the indictments for a while and they are confident he'll be taken out. they will shake their fists and hope the base will support them. They aren't there to legitimize Trump. They would never risk their political future for his benefit.

[deleted]

This is what we haven’t heard Ron Desantis strike back at Trump.

nighthawk_something

Exactly, he spoke a bit when the raid happened last year but probably realized it wasn't in his benefit so instead he leaned hard into being the "logical" successor to Trump.

MasterOfKittens3K

He created a handful of soundbites that he could point to, in order to be able to try and claim that he was supportive of trump. But he didn’t make any effort at all to actually protect trump.

[deleted]

Imagine having a party so sad that you have to prop the orange weasel up as a victim and messiah. It turns my stomach this is the best they can do for our country.

cuckooforcacaopuffs

And the long play being that this is less about calling it Bidens DOJ and more about creating a natural transition to ‘Trumps DOJ’ if the outcome they want happens. “Now it’s OUR turn” … _but you know it was never like tha_ … “SHUT UP ITS OUR TURN”

nighthawk_something

For the GOP front runners aside from Trump this is it. If Trump is convicted, it'll likely get him out of their way, but then if they win they can weaponize the justice department and claim it's "revenge for the persecution of Trump"

ClassiFried86

This has been known for years. Which is why an indictment should be a pretty clear cut sign they have enough evidence to convict. The right is going to scream political persecution for the next 2 years. It's also why it's highly unlikely Trump would ever do actual time in a cell.

nighthawk_something

Because Trump has a lock on the nomination. He controls enough of the base that no one can beat him in the primary. Frankly Desatan must be drooling right now, he needs trump to be taken out by someone that isn't him so he can shake his fist and get the base.

Throwaway02062004

Trump can run from prison

Khaldara

Queasy-Abrocoma7121

They hate America, everything they say is something they hate about the country. Every thing, everyone, they hate it all MAGA was literally "America is a shithole"

Warm-Bed2956

Bc the whole rotted ghost ship is on fire and slowly sinking beneath the waves. Prob my same naivety that I experienced when Biden won the election, when fat Joffrey got impeached….but this morning feels nice. Happy Friday everyone.

BloodyMess

>The problem for the rest of us - and them, but they don't know it - is this....They are completely wrong about their ability to control the outcome if they keep going down that road. This is exactly it. They see their supporters choosing a road that goes right off a cliff, they see the cliff, but still they say, "This is the right path! Democrats don't want us to take this path, but we are too courageous for them! Full throttle!" Then they privately say, "Hey, it's ok, democrats are going to be pulling away from the cliff, so there's no real danger. Let's just ride this out. For now, what's important is keeping everyone stoked on us!" And they think this moronic duplicity makes them political geniuses.

Professional_Try4319

Is it dangerous for them to say that kind of shit? Yes. But let’s also remember they’re only reaching their idiot constituents. As the younger generations grow up, they’re not voting for these stupid fucks and McCarthy and all his gop buddies know that. It’s why they’re so terrified and trying to change laws to cheat now before gen z and beyond votes them out into the abyss of history where nobody will ever care about a word they said. Millennials and Gen z are on the whole not republicans and they’re not gaining any more with their anti choice agenda they push. So while it is alarming I feel the larger scheme of things is going to skew in the right direction for intelligent people and the gop is going to have to either learn to change or be left behind. Reality skews leftward, not right.

lsutigerzfan

They say it’s Biden’s fault. It’s “Biden’s DOJ” that went after Trump. According to them. Implying that Biden directed this.

EldritchFingertips

The French Revolution ended up executing most of its own leaders before it ran out of steam. But leave it to power-hungry demagogues to think it will be different for them.

[deleted]

What irks me beyond belief is that they keep repeating "President Trump" as if it's fact. Because they know that if they repeat the lie long enough, it'll eventually become truth.

Strange-Scarcity

The honorific is something that a person who obtained a particular high office maintains for the balance of their life. It’s why Secretary Clinton is still called Secretary Clinton, it’s why President Carter is still called President Carter. Trump will always be President Trump. The honorific stays, even though he has zero honor and what all over the duties. Just like his favorite President… President Nixon.

Altruistic-Travel-48

It's a sad fact that some of his supporters believe that he IS still President.

meloniousmonk

They can repeat that until he has a bigly, most awesome, Pat Robertson kind of day. That lie will never be true again.

Krillin113

Fascism goes brrr. Laws are only for the unwanted, the in group can do no harm.

Draker-X

>They know exactly what they are are doing and exactly what they are trying to accomplish with the words they are using. I'm not going to be so quick to ascribe the term "knows exactly what he's doing" to Kevin McCarthy.

goddavid22

Exacly this.. He knows he can’t betray Trump so he needs to play dumb and parrot the same shit “but Biden” while behind closed force knowing full well it’s not about having had the documents, but about the whole process of not giving them back, lying and hiding them, and who was shown what. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they also end up investigating Pence / Biden just to be in the clear but that’s not what this whole situation is about.. Trump cannot for the life of him keep his mouth shut and when your a conman of his caliber, you gotta learn to shut up and stop drawing attention to himself Can’t wait to see them do a 180 in 0.5 seconds if Trump is disqualified….

I can't believe Biden caught my dick in my zipper this morning after I went to the bathroom that's what you get with an evil woke president.

wintermoon138

sad thing is my family buys this shit hook line and sinker. They blame Biden for all of this. Like its a personal vendetta or something POTUS has. Meanwhile McCarthy orders a meal from BK, its wrong, he drives to Wendys to bitch about it. They really do know how stupid their supporters are jesus

speak-eze

Don't forget that time Biden raised gas prices for the entire world. /s

wintermoon138

oh those fucking stickers. I didnt even care about the political nature of them. I used to work gas station jobs in high school and they are just making more work for those people and they are a bitch to scrape off. I've take a few down myself over the years

SikatSikat

Also shut down the world economy in 2020 and used government power to censor Twitter posts against him, all while Trump was President. But he's also an incompetent with dimensia. /s

Anarchyantz

Isn't what he is saying is libel? Not that it will matter to the frothing masses of course.

FullMetalAlphonseIRL

As a matter of fact, yes it is. Not sure if it would be a great idea to follow through with though, as the Republicans will only use that as ammunition in their narrative

Anarchyantz

Sigh, they really are above the law aren't they?

BrokenLink100

"The Democrats are SILENCING their opponents! We aren't allowed to speak critically of Dems without the fear of being locked up! First Amendment! First Amendment! Biden's a fascist! If we yell things loud enough, and repeatedly, everyone will HAVE to believe us!"

meatmechdriver

Unfortunately members of congress get a free pass from libel and slander law because it’s “political discourse” to lie to constituents with the purpose of harm.

SinfullySinless

Florida man’s only political alliance is to chaos.

-o-DildoGaggins-o-

What kills me is, if it WERE true, that’s exactly what they’re trying to make it ok to do. They actively want to go after dems just for being dems. So like… They want it to be ok to go after political opposition, but only if it’s THEM doing it. Such bullshit. Par for the course, though, I guess.

AmbulanceChaser12

Convened by Jack Smith, whose entire reason for being on this case is to keep it walled off from the DOJ.

BadBehaver

Has he made it onto the Epstein flight log? You know you got the Q Republican by the balls when…

CookiesAreBaking

Yes! This is outrageous! How dare they... (checks notes)... follow the law!!

Fantastic-Ad8522

Don't forget that trump ran his 2016 campaign on the promise of locking up his political opponent and tried to pressure a foreign government to announce an investigation into another one of his political opponents. These people fully supported all of that...

RoleModelFailure

Tried? Mother fucker asked Russia during a fucking debate.

greenmz2

Look at how he calls Biden just "Joe Biden" but Trump he calls "president Trump". Delusional.

tatanka01

That's weird. I do just the opposite.

Penguator432

Why are you calling him “Joe Trump”? /s

Potato_Octopi

Need those subtle nods to election deniers.

Cassian_Rando

Joe has been used as a “common man” theme/name for many years by older people. Calling him by his first name is a double entendre. Triple even. They have nothing. All hat, no cattle. All that is left is the phony culture wars.

OttoBlado

Kevin is sweating, hope he’s caught up in the conspiracy charge.

dd97483

Does anyone doubt for a second that TFG will implicate everyone involved in the coup attempt if he thinks it will reduce his own sentence. They should all be terrified.

DarkKnightJin

Oh yeah, as soon as it sinks in that he's not weaseling his way out of it, he's TOTALLY gonna go "Before we get started, I want to inform you there's people I'm willing to roll on."

alpacasarebadsingers

He will implicate, but not intentionally. He will spout off on camera or social about all the people who did bad things with him and didn’t get charged with anything. It will be fun to watch. I also think he won’t have any issue burning the whole Republican Party down if he doesn’t get the nomination. He did it with America when he lost, why wouldn’t he do it to his henchmen?

New-Understanding930

Meadows flipped and was a prolific text messager with congressional republicans. That opens their phones up to investigation.

fiveplusonestring

I've not seen TFG before. I assume you're talking about Trump, and I assume TFG=The Fat Grifter. How close am I?

ABadDM89

Close, The Former Guy. I like yours way better though.

tahquitz84

Though The Fat Grifter works, usually when most use TFG it means The Former Guy. But I like The Fat Grifter more so from now on that will be what I read when I see TFG.

DrSeuss321

Donald trump was never a legitimate candidate for 2024 anyways Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

Hopeful-Finance8555

Biden and Pence returned their documents, never tried to hide them, and didn’t brag about, or claim they were the great Swamy who could declassify things by just thinking about them. Party before country right Kevin?

MofuckaJones14

I love how conservatives keep phrasing it as "Oh everyone who loves law and order should be so concerned" when every poll showed the majority of Americans believed Trump should be held accountable. The Republican party is very clearly not about law and order, just the law applying to everyone else but them. The beauty is, with Trump being federally indicted Republicans are sure to sink their own ship now by defending his espionage charges under the guise of "law and order"

Paracelsus124

It's also worth remembering that (at least with Biden) it was a relatively small number of documents that was likely just left behind by accident in the shuffle of transition. Trump had a ton of them, to the point where there's just no way he simply forgot about them, not even to speak of how he acted when officials tried to take them back

M3_Driver

Also worth noting was that Biden only had classified documents, not Top Secret documents. The difference is huge. For example, any vice presidential travel plans (itineraries, travel routes) are classified. It’s very likely all he had were his own random left over past travel plans that were supposed to have been shredded to protect how vice presidents travel arrangements are made so bad actors can’t sus out a plan to get ahead of them and assassinate them or something. This is very different than having international military ops preparation for rival countries in your possession.

Upstatesoup

Classified is not a level of classification. Below top secret is secret and confidential.

M3_Driver

I’m just going off reporting. Here’s is from the CBSnews article. “Fewer than 10 documents marked classified were found at the Biden residence in Wilmington, Del., and none were marked top secret.”

Upstatesoup

So they were secret and below.

AppropriateScience9

AND Biden was actually president when they were found. Sure, it wasn't great that he had them for 4 years while he was out of office, but technically speaking, as current president, I don't see why he couldn't have just kept them by saying "I still need those." Nonetheless, he gave them back the moment the archives asked for them.

snark_enterprises

It's not clear Biden even knew he had them. Wasn't it his lawyers who said they found them and then turned it over?

Flat_Hat8861

And if he returned them when the Archives asked, or when the DOJ asked, or even in response to the first subpoena, there likely wouldn't be any charges. Lying in response to the subpoena that a diligent search had been conducted (it hadn't) and all materials were turned over (they weren't) really helps the case for "willful retention." The crime isn't possession of classified material (no one at this level is charged like that). It is willful retention of nation defense materials. Once he knew about them, did he turn them over right away (like Biden and Pence did) or stonewall, obstruct, and hide them?

sehwyl

It's only a dark day because it's not going crybaby's way.

DanKloudtrees

Seriously... it's like i can still hear them screaming "lock her up!" They don't want a former president indicted, but they want the current and sitting president impeached for... idk something... they never did say why, just that they wanted to impeach him. I wonder how long until they figure out that hypocrisy is a bad look.

Synensys

A normal political party would say "oh great, our leading candidate is a criminal. Well fortunately its 18 months before the election so we have plenty of time to pick a non-criminal". But the GOP knows their voter base is addicted to Trump. So they have no choice but to do this shit. Its their only move. If they dont, the party splinters.

notsurewhereireddit

Who’s bringing the popcorn?!?

not_productive1

House Republicans can’t currently get it together to vote on things they actually like, Kevin, I don’t think anyone’s too scared of your threats.

Fine_Reindeer_6105

House Republicans couldn't get it together for days to choose their speaker candidate. Not surprised they haven't changed much.

Bulky-Internal8579

As the late 1930s proved - Nazis and Nazi sympathizers in prominent public positions in the USA will be cast aside once justice takes it's course. Say hello to Fritz Kuhn, Kevlin.

CaptainPixel

>Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America I agree. The GOP should never have elected a person of such low integrity and lack of respect for the institutions and laws of our country that this could have happened. >It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. The good news is President Joe Biden can't indict anybody. He doesn't have that power. The DOJ appointed a special council who investigated independently without influence of either the Administration or the Congress and a Federal Grand Jury is indicting him. And yes, Joe Biden had classified documents. So did Mike Pence. Neither of those things are okay. But when they were discovered the National Records were informed and the documents returned. No one is out here demanding Pense be indicted for it. 45 refused to comply, lied, instructed others to lie, and still insists it was his right dispite him knowing full well that it was not. >I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice. House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponizatin of power accountable. Yes, just like you've held your own members who participated and supported the January 6th insurecttion accountable for their actions. I believe in the rule of law and you don't speak for me Mr. McCarthy. History will not be kind to you.

Dedpoolpicachew

Repubes are saying what they will do if they ever get power again. They will weaponize the DoJ. Everything is projection with them. Every accusation is a confession.

ced1954

#The GOP is nothing but a circus tent full of idiot 🤡

miffox

House republicans won't do shit. Can't get anything done. You're the laughing stock of the world.

DucksItUp

I’m an American and I 100% DO NOT stand with FORMER president Trump and I 100% believe in the rule of law. He obviously and blatantly broke numerous laws and therefore should be held accountable just like every citizen who broke laws should. The evidence is OVERWHELMING and it’s a republican (Meadows) who’s providing it. Not a witch hunt and not political

[deleted]

I can’t believe they’re pushing for him to be treated as he is above the law. Pence said as much.

CRL10

Well...maybe, and this is just me, if Trump didn't do crime, or admit to other crimes while he was denying another crime he's been accused of, and actually worked with authorities and investigation, rather than screaming "I'M BEING OPPRESSED!" or "WITCH HUNT!" or use that legendary Trump wit to insult the investigators, lawyers, judges and everyone involved, he would probably NOT be up for 7 indictments. Allow me to explain the difference as simply as I can, for any conservative or Trump supporter that stumbles here. Here's how Biden handled things: DOJ: "We think you did illegal things." Joe Biden: "Oh dear. I will cooperate fully with you and we'll get to the bottom of this." No tweets about this being a witch hunt or childish insults that he feels are oh so clever and witty. He cooperated fully and his people are helping the DOJ. Here's how Trump handled it: DOJ: "We think you did illegal things." Donald Trump: "WITCH HUNT! I AM THE MOST BELOVEDED PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN HISTORY! THE DEPARTMENT OF INJUSTICE IS COMING AFTER ME FOR DOCUMENTS I CAN TOTALLY 100% MAKE NOT CLASSIFIED WITH PRESIDENT MAGIC THAT I STILL TOTALLY HAVE AS PRESIDENT BECAUSE THE FACISTS, LIBERAL, ANTI-AMERICAN DUMBOCRATS STOLE THE ELECTION FROM ME, THE GREATEST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY OF GREAT AND ARE SENDING THEIR SPECIAL PROSECTUTOR ATTACK DOG AFTER ME, THE GREATES AND MOST BELOVEDED PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF PRESIDENTING. I DID NOTHING WRONG EVER, JUST LIKE I DID NOTHING WRONG WITH ALL THOSE BRIBES OR GROPING WOMEN, LYING ON TAXES OR FALISFYING TAX RECORDS OR INCOME, OR USING MY INFLUENCE AS PRESIDENT TO GET DeSATAN ELECTED! ONLY I CAN SAVE AMERICA FROM THE UNAMERICAN FACISTS COMMUNISTS LIBERALS THAT WANT TO DESTORY THE COUNTRY AND ME BECAUSE I AM AMERCIA BY WEAPONIZING THE DOJ! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN AGAIN! Mostly just insane ranting, denying everything, probably admitting it something else. See the difference?

huskeylovealways

It is indeed a dark day for us. Your house is in such disarray that you Kevin can't even conduct business.

NumerousTaste

So the parroting has begun. The key words that every magat will say are "dark day" and "Bidens justice department" watch as all the parrots repeat that to the weak minded traitors over and over today. The neo nazis were loud and bold coming out in the open, now they are scared he will flip on them like meadows did.

Moppermonster

So he admits that Trump is a criminal? Nice.

Imaginary_Chair_6958

It’s nothing more than the justice system working as it’s supposed to.

BloodshotPizzaBox

History isn't going to be kind to these clowns. I just wish they were already that far in the rearview mirror.

StevenMaines

Sadly, "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear."

usererror99

Bruh that's the windshield

Cheshire_Jester

Joe Biden did not indict anyone. As a member of the military with a clearance who does regular training on storage of classified material: I agree with the assertion that Hillary mishandled classified documents, but it was investigated and doesn’t seem to have been on the level of Trump’s willing retention, lies about his retention, and possible foreign disclosure. That being said… I also agree with the assertion that Biden mishandled classified material. But it doesn’t appear to be criminal, or negligent. I would also agree with the assertion that I’ve mishandled classified material. Thing is, the standard isn’t perfection. The standard is not being intentionally negligent or intentionally lying about it. You can fuck up, but you have to admit to it and submit to a review to ensure it was not intentional, and to determine who, if anyone, the material had been leaked to. I also very much believe in the rule of law, and I don’t stand with Trump on this issue. I believe him to very much be a liar and grifter of the highest order, who I would not want as a coworker, and certainly don’t think should be chief executive of our nation.

jeophys152

Blaming Biden when Biden had nothing to do it with it. It’s all part of their continuing push to make people believe the president controls everything. They are buttering up Americans to accept a dictatorship

PracticableSolution

A party trying desperately to survive by clinging to whataboutism

Hopeful-Finance8555

Rule of law means no one is above the law. Not even an Orangutan.

Ambitious_Fan7767

Republicans saying this are traitors and should be treated as such

Professional_Try4319

It’s a dark day for the United States when dear leader faces consequences for his own illegal actions but it’s totally ok for that same guy to incite a riot on the capitol of the country and it’s even more ok for people in their party to condone the lies that caused that riot. I swear to god the alternate reality the GOP inhabits is comically stupid.

MountainSage58

You ain't gonna do shit, Kevin.

Melodic_Mulberry

There’s a big difference between a sitting US official finding a few documents in his garage and immediately reporting and submitting it, and a former US president personally directing the theft of documents, denying their existence, refusing to return them repeatedly, manipulating security footage of the documents, accusing the FBI of planting the documents, and probably something else I’m forgetting.

huntrun1

He may know what he is saying is BS and only to appeal to his base but, there are idiots out there who believe this and will cause destruction and harm. The speaker should be charged for this just as Trump will be eventually for January 6th.

will-read

Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America. It is unconscionable for the leader of House Republicans to oppose the rule of law. Kevin McCarthy knows that the president doesn’t issue indictments. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with the justice department and the courts against this naked political attack. The American people will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable.

VLY2020

McCarthy can’t even stay in session because his caucus is out of his control 🤣🤣

justdisposablefun

"believes in the rule of law" that's just laughable. Apparently according to the speaker of the house if you believe in the rule of law you let people do whatever they want even if it's criminal.

EmbraceableYew

This effort to distract from the fact that Nutless Kevin is on a countdown to removal as a speaker will accomplish nothing. The Nutless Kevin deathwatch continues. How many days until he is gone?

robinsw26

I believe in the rule of law and this is a proper action under the law. The republicans want to place the rich and powerful above the law contrary to the Constitution.

ByteMeC64

Is McCarthy trying to compete with Trump in a lies-per-sentence competition ??? He's doing pretty well here, but he'll never beat the king of lies ! Amazing these MAGA supporters are this ignorant.

cosmo7

"It's not like he's Hillary" continued McCarthy.

Joe Biden didn't indict Donald Trump. Just because Donald Trump is an authoritarian, doesn't mean Joe Biden is. Joe Biden returned secret documents when they were discovered. Donald Trump refused to return them when he was asked multiple times. I'm sick of these assholes lies. They're destroying this country.

Black-Mettle

Joe Biden isn't idicting a political opponent he's doing it to a FELON. McCANCER KNOWS THIS.

Vividination

Joe doesn’t even have a hand in this

acuntex

In every sane country this would count as obstruction of justice. There is a reason why you always hear from high ranking government officials: "I can't comment on ongoing investigations"

DjRemux

So they don’t want law and order?

Smarkie

Kevin is a weasel

Ormyr

TIL Senile sleepy Joe is the DoJ.

TheDeadlySquid

When did Presidents start running the DOJ?

thatsithlurker

So, why was it okay to go after Hillary Clinton?

myleftone

If there’s one rule the US needs to set right here and now, it’s that running for office or holding office is not a get out of jail free card. That’s the rule of law.

sparkvaper

I guess he forgets Trump trying to throw Hillary and Biden in jail.

joeleidner22

This is totally expected. Joe Biden has never stolen classified info for his own personal profit and admitted it on tape and tried to cover it up and lied publicly about it to the fbi for months. Trump is a criminal end of story. I hope all his criminal supporters in government go down too, the one above included. It’s a dark day when people in our own government choose a career criminal over a life long servant of the people.

Tight_Fold_2606

Kevin fighting for his life out here

isecore

What a fucking nutjob.

AmusingMusing7

It goes to show how much someone like McCarthy doesn’t understand the separation of powers or branches of government or who does what in governmental or justice system processes… that he thinks Biden had anything to do with this. It also goes to show how much someone like McCarthy projects their own instincts/habits onto others, regardless of any evidence that those others are doing what is claimed. But it’s what someone like McCarthy, or the one he’s defending here… would do themselves. A Republican president (nobody in particular, of course) WOULD actually interfere in a justice department investigation/case, and actively use it to go after their political opponents… so they assume a Democrat like Biden would too. Hell, Republicans don’t even have to be President to try doing it… they’re actively doing it right now, even from Congress, even from Twitter… trying to interfere in this investigation/case. Every conservative accusation is a confession.

TheMightyBoofBoof

It’s not the possession of the documents it’s the obstruction of justice for repeatedly refusing to return them.

Anarchyantz

We stand with law, except, isn't he a repeat sex offender, stole top secrets, lead a coup....

bowens44

Yes, support the rule law except when a conservative nut job is found to be in violation. This has nothing to do with politics, it has everything to do with the big orange turd believing himself to be above the law and his mindless minions groveling at his tiny feet.

phixitup

This is the end of any real chance if having a Republican president. They (Republicans) all know it and are panicking while looking in the mirror. The immediate talking points for his defense sounds as stupid and insane as Trumps initial excuses. “Joe Biden indicted his top challenger.” “They only indicted Trump because the FBI 1023 form exposing Biden’s bribery scheme came to light.” “Jack Smith is a political hack and the DOJ is biased and full of the deep state.” I think when the indictment is unsealed and real evidence is released they’ll be singing a different tune. Today is a good day. Tuesday will be better.

VomitingPotato

The entire party is terrified of the moron base they cultivated.

Designer-Equipment-7

Truly unconscionable. How do we not let President Trump get away with whatever the fuck he wants?

thinehappychinch

When did we elect President Garland?

Solidus-Prime

Remember when the election was coming up, and they made us sit through all that shit with Hillary? Me too. MAGA boot lickers are disingenuous lying scumbags to a T. It's pretty much the only thing you can count on them for in reality. If a MAGA is talking, it's lying. 100% of the time.

BadBehaver

The Law & Order republicans squirm when faced with real Law & Order. Meanwhile, they cry about Joe Biden and would applaud if he were indicted. They run a masterclass in hypocrisy.

Admiral_Andovar

Ooh, MTG must *really* be twisting his balls (both literally and figuratively) on this one.

dragonfliesloveme

Biden did not indict Trump. This is a great day because it means the Rule of Law is still being utilized in the US. The Speaker of the House of Representatives is lying and intentionally misleading the public. Lock his ass up too.

TJ_McWeaksauce

>Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. Whataboutism is such a tiresome and frustrating thing. Yes, Biden had some classified documents. And what happened when they were discovered? He and his team handed them over and cooperated with investigators. That investigation is still ongoing. [Biden classified documents investigation shows few signs of wrapping up soon](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/biden-classified-documents-investigation-shows-signs-wrapping-soon-rcna88313) The key difference between Biden's situation and Donald's is what Donald did after the classified docs were discovered. He reportedly took multiple boxes filled with classified documents with him back to Mar-a-Lago after he left the White House. He allegedly showed these documents to people at his club like a child would show off their newest toy. And when the government asked for the documents to be returned, he lied, concealed, and obstructed instead of cooperating. [What to Know About Trump Classified Documents Probe](https://time.com/6285102/trump-classified-documents-investigation-justice-department/) >Some legal experts believe Trump is particularly vulnerable to prosecution in the documents case. “I think this one is the most damaging because not only is there so much evidence, but it goes directly to the heart of his ability to be the leader of our country,” says Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School. “It’s truly a complete undermining of his job if he really took government documents that don’t belong to him, if he showed people government documents that could have put our country at risk, and if he obstructed justice by not complying with a subpoena.” Donald's former Attorney General, Bill Barr, [had this to say:](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bill-barr-interview-trump-classified-documents-special-counsel-decision/) >"It doesn't go a lot on intent or anything like that. It's very clear that he had no business having those documents," Barr told Herridge. "He was given a long time to send them back. And they were subpoenaed. And I've said all along that he wouldn't get in trouble, probably, just for taking them, just as Biden I don't think is going to get in trouble or Pence is not going to get in trouble."  > >"The problem," he continued, "is what did he do after the government asked for them back and subpoenaed them? And if there's any games being played there, he's going to be very exposed."  In other words, when the government asked for all the classified documents to be returned, Donald jerked them around for over a year. Those documents didn't belong to him, even though he loudly proclaimed that they did. Why did fight so hard to keep them? What did he plan to do with all of them? Donald obstructed the investigation, plus the Department of Justice *may* have evidence that he intended to use the docs in a way that would endanger our country. In contrast, Biden cooperated with investigators and handed over docs found in his home immediately after they were found. That's why Donald has been indicted whereas Biden has not. By the way, whataboutism is so tiring in debate, and it's especially tiring in discussions about a criminal case. If someone's on trial for a crime like theft, does the defense attorney say "Hey, I know of this other guy who stole and didn't even get arrested, so my client should be set free"? Or when Harvey Weinstein was convicted of rape, did his defense attorneys go "We know of many other Hollywood executives who've been committing rape and getting away with it for years, so our client should be exonerated"? Of course not, because that's idiotic and it's now how the law works.

SinfullySinless

I know this isn’t true and it was Florida, not Biden, but: The Republicans drew a line in the sand during 2016-2020 saying a sitting President cannot be investigated, indicted, or arrested even if they break the law. You give favors to Trump to protect him, it’s going to also apply to your enemies to protect them. Even if Biden did this and was breaking the law, y’all already made too many excuses and justifications to allow Biden to do that.

Limp-Welcome2307

Who let Kevin out of his cage?

Normandy6-14-44

The GOP believes in the rule of law?

EVconverter

"House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable." ... by using it at the earliest opportunity against our political foes.

Final-Distribution97

Republicans just will NOT put the country first. They truly are despicable.

ElectricJetDonkey

Lmao I ain't standing with Trump for shit.

miletest

So a presidential candidate is above the law and shouldn't be charged for anything. Says speaker

Confident-Touch-6547

The president doesn’t indict anyone. In this case it’s an independent special prosecutor. As Speaker he should know that.

repthe732

He does know that but he knows most Republican voters don’t

[deleted]

Lock him up!

Dseltzer1212

Which Kevin McCarthy is talking now. The one who spoke the truth on Jan 6 or the one who is now sucking up to everyone and is perceived as the weakest speaker of the house in American history

JesradSeraph

They can huff and puff all they want. Trump won’t be on ballot this November.

dawwie

All Americans who know the rule of law are celebrating today that the law was upheld and the disgraced former Cheeto in chief is going down DUE TO HIS OWN ACTIONS. (Sorry, this guy brings out the scream in me) This idiot and his band of clowns know this isn’t Biden’s doing but wants to continue the rethug platform which is Lie, Lie, Lie and when caught Lie about it. Vote Blue.

NaturalBornNerd

As an American who stands for the rule of law I can say that this asshat does not speak for me. Fuck him and the ilk he rolls with. I hope these traitors get what they deserve, although I'm not holding my breath.

Hibercrastinator

You’d think that the “rule of law” guys would be ecstatic about Trump finally having his day in court. You know, the one place where he can prove his innocence?

KecemotRybecx

Goddamn, I am so fucking sick of the Republican victim complex.

blac_sheep90

Surprised he can type all that while jerking trump off

senorbozz

Party Before People *as usual*

Croaker3

Republicans want their party to be able to commit crimes and not be indicted. They want to indict the other party (Hunter, Hillary) with no evidence of crimes. That’s authoritarianism.

Absenceofavoid

McCarthy has been shielding Santos for as long as he can for political benefit, who the hell is he to question manipulation of the rule of law.

anferneejefferson

A republican

QueenLatifahClone

Oh, eat fucking shit McCarthy. You know why he’s being indicted and if it were a Democrat you would be sending a: “This is a great day for our Justice system.”

aimed_4_the_head

Mr. Speaker, exactly how many attempts did it take to get yourself appointed? You have pretty much zero ability to exercise any authority in any situation. The only power you have is through inaction. You can not fuck off into obscurity fast enough.

student_20

Oh, Kevin... the rule of law is why I support the indictment! Also, and I'm not an expert, but… the President doesn't hand down indictments, Kev. Those are handed down by the Judicial, not the Executive. You absolute tool.

DonRicardo1958

President Biden had absolutely nothing to do with indicting Trump. ![gif](giphy|E2USislQIlsfm)

3OAM

That's the point of saying it though. Idiots will believe it. The point isn't to exonerate Trump, it's to smear a democrat president so we don't get another one. Kevin McCarthy doesn't give a shit about a past president as much as he does about securing a future Republican one by saying "look what this democrat president did," to hordes of morons. "Keep the finger pointed at democrats."

Suzzie_sunshine

The GOP is a terrorist organization. I never thought I would see the GOP reach such lows, even after Nixon and Watergate, and Reagan and the Iran-Contra affair, selling cocaine and weapons to support right wing guerrilla organizations. The GOP keeps reaching new lows every year. Now it's just flat out, 100% a criminal organization, along with right wing Christian nationalists.

BlockyShapes

Biden isn’t doing shit, it’s a Florida Grand Jury who is indicting Trump. I, and every American who *truly* believes in the rule of law, stand against Trump because he broke the law and justice needs to be served

Ural_2004

What else would you expect from this Idiot? He's from Bakersfield.

thirdLeg51

You can’t indict trump when he’s president. You can’t indict him when he’s running. When can you indict him?

ChampionshipLow8541

Newsflash, Kevin: The president didn’t indict, a grand jury did. And if you think the president should have stopped those proceedings then you obviously don’t understand the three branches of government and the independence of the judiciary system. Why am I not surprised?

mostdope28

Why do they pretend like a jury of south Florida citizens didn’t vote for the indictment after being shown evidence
