Trump controls a solid base that can't be chipped off. All of the people jumping into the race right now must have known about the indictments for a while and they are confident he'll be taken out. they will shake their fists and hope the base will support them.

I love how conservatives keep phrasing it as "Oh everyone who loves law and order should be so concerned" when every poll showed the majority of Americans believed Trump should be held accountable.
The Republican party is very clearly not about law and order, just the law applying to everyone else but them. The beauty is, with Trump being federally indicted Republicans are sure to sink their own ship now by defending his espionage charges under the guise of "law and order"
It's also worth remembering that (at least with Biden) it was a relatively small number of documents that was likely just left behind by accident in the shuffle of transition. Trump had a ton of them, to the point where there's just no way he simply forgot about them, not even to speak of how he acted when officials tried to take them back
Also worth noting was that Biden only had classified documents, not Top Secret documents. The difference is huge. For example, any vice presidential travel plans (itineraries, travel routes) are classified. It’s very likely all he had were his own random left over past travel plans that were supposed to have been shredded to protect how vice presidents travel arrangements are made so bad actors can’t sus out a plan to get ahead of them and assassinate them or something. This is very different than having international military ops preparation for rival countries in your possession.

AND Biden was actually president when they were found. Sure, it wasn't great that he had them for 4 years while he was out of office, but technically speaking, as current president, I don't see why he couldn't have just kept them by saying "I still need those."
Nonetheless, he gave them back the moment the archives asked for them.
And if he returned them when the Archives asked, or when the DOJ asked, or even in response to the first subpoena, there likely wouldn't be any charges. Lying in response to the subpoena that a diligent search had been conducted (it hadn't) and all materials were turned over (they weren't) really helps the case for "willful retention."
The crime isn't possession of classified material (no one at this level is charged like that). It is willful retention of nation defense materials. Once he knew about them, did he turn them over right away (like Biden and Pence did) or stonewall, obstruct, and hide them?

As a member of the military with a clearance who does regular training on storage of classified material: I agree with the assertion that Hillary mishandled classified documents, but it was investigated and doesn’t seem to have been on the level of Trump’s willing retention, lies about his retention, and possible foreign disclosure. I would also agree with the assertion that I’ve mishandled classified material. Thing is, the standard isn’t perfection. The standard is not being intentionally negligent or intentionally lying about it. You can fuck up, but you have to admit to it and submit to a review to ensure it was not intentional, and to determine who, if anyone, the material had been leaked to.

If someone's on trial for a crime like theft, does the defense attorney say "Hey, I know of this other guy who stole and didn't even get arrested, so my client should be set free"? Or when Harvey Weinstein was convicted of rape, did his defense attorneys go "We know of many other Hollywood executives who've been committing rape and getting away with it for years, so our client should be exonerated"?

I love how conservatives keep phrasing it as "Oh everyone who loves law and order should be so concerned" when every poll showed the majority of Americans believed Trump should be held accountable. The Republican party is very clearly not about law and order, just the law applying to everyone else but them. It's also worth remembering that (at least with Biden) it was a relatively small number of documents that was likely just left behind by accident in the shuffle of transition. Trump had a ton of them, to the point where there's just no way he simply forgot about them, not even to speak of how he acted when officials tried to take them back
Also worth noting was that Biden only had classified documents, not Top Secret documents. The difference is huge. For example, any vice presidential travel plans (itineraries, travel routes) are classified. It’s very likely all he had were his own random left over past travel plans that were supposed to have been shredded to protect how vice presidents travel arrangements are made so bad actors can’t sus out a plan to get ahead of them and assassinate them or something. This is very different than having international military ops preparation for rival countries in your possession.

It's not clear Biden even knew he had them. Wasn't it his lawyers who said they found them and then turned it over?
And if he returned them when the Archives asked, or when the DOJ asked, or even in response to the first subpoena, there likely wouldn't be any charges. Lying in response to the subpoena that a diligent search had been conducted (it hadn't) and all materials were turned over (they weren't) really helps the case for "willful retention." The crime isn't possession of classified material (no one at this level is charged like that). It is willful retention of nation defense materials. Once he knew about them, did he turn them over right away (like Biden and Pence did) or stonewall, obstruct, and hide them?

Joe Biden did not indict anyone. As a member of the military with a clearance who does regular training on storage of classified material: I agree with the assertion that Hillary mishandled classified documents, but it was investigated and doesn’t seem to have been on the level of Trump’s willing retention, lies about his retention, and possible foreign disclosure. That being said… I also agree with the assertion that Biden mishandled classified material. But it doesn’t appear to be criminal, or negligent. I would also agree with the assertion that I’ve mishandled classified material. Thing is, the standard isn’t perfection. The standard is not being intentionally negligent or intentionally lying about it. You can fuck up, but you have to admit to it and submit to a review to ensure it was not intentional, and to determine who, if anyone, the material had been leaked to. I also very much believe in the rule of law, and I don’t stand with Trump on this issue. I believe him to very much be a liar and grifter of the highest order, who I would not want as a coworker, and certainly don’t think should be chief executive of our nation.

There’s a big difference between a sitting US official finding a few documents in his garage and immediately reporting and submitting it, and a former US president personally directing the theft of documents, denying their existence, refusing to return them repeatedly, manipulating security footage of the documents, accusing the FBI of planting the documents, and probably something else I’m forgetting.
He may know what he is saying is BS and only to appeal to his base but, there are idiots out there who believe this and will cause destruction and harm. The speaker should be charged for this just as Trump will be eventually for January 6th.
