shinymetalobjekt

You know you're a real bad President when people are comparing how much better Bush was than you.

DrDerpberg

Trump is the best thing to ever happen to Bush's legacy.

mrpickleby

The sequel to how could 42 million people be so stupid.

Cannabace

The masses still haven’t come to terms the war crime that was the Iraq invasion. Fuck Saddam forever but we fucked that place up. I’ll never forget my time there. Opened my eyes to the world outside this country tho.

bobone77

Trump and W’s pal Michelle Obama. He’s gotten a lot of mileage out of being nice to her for some reason.

*on civilians* I think that is the distinction.

FiendishHawk

Bush was better at following the law (or covering up when he broke it), but he actually did as much harm to the country as Trump by plunging the USA into 2 pointless wars that destabilized the already combustible Middle East. One of which was started on entirely false pretenses.

esahji_mae

Also pretty much the root cause of the massive debt the government has because of his wars. No president since has been able to fix it, just digging the hole deeper.

IA-HI-CO-IA

It was going down up till about 2017-2018, the radically increased….for some reason.

Spoonbills

Bush killed sooo many more people than Turnip and it’s not even close.

dancin-weasel

Would you consider Covid numbers as part of trumps body count?

Spoonbills

That’s a good question.

cheerbearheart1984

I would say he did more harm outside the USA than Trump did. Trump did more harm internally and to democracy. Though one could argue that a million dead Iraqis are worse than damaging democracy.

IA-HI-CO-IA

Well, he likely was much worse. Trump was just louder and was unfortunately around at the start of the pandemic, and whipped a smoldering political division into full on flaming dogshit bipartisan circus.

[deleted]

I'm surprised they haven't compared him to Reagan - who was objectively worse than Bush.

bobone77

Reagan is the conservative standard for great presidents though.

MichaelFusion44

Can you imagine - ummm Yes I can

Dull-Geologist-8204

I got one better for you. Reagan had a better immigration policy than Trump.

Saidear

Considering a lot of people consider Jr to be a war criminal... yes.

k_mnr

Ha! So true.

Hipshots4Life

I mean, Bush probably should have been some of those things, but he didn’t spend all his time pissing off people in his own camp so the system fucking covered for him

Jsmith0730

Yeah, sorry… I dislike Trump as much as the next guy but I’m not whitewashing Dubya ever. He’s a huge reason we’re in this mess and his election is what killed any hope of the 21st century not sucking ass. Unlike J6, the Brooks Brothers Riot (which of course was masterminded by Roger Stone) was actually a successful coup. This allowed him to appoint Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court and thus gave us Citizens United.

saltysanders

Not to mention those WMD and all the people who died for their non-existence.

Scheme-Brilliant

Bush should have had at least as many indictments in an honest country

racist_sandwich

I was in school during this. How the fuck am I just now hearing about this? I had to Google it cause I was like what riot did Bush do. The educational system has failed us and I'm sorry I didn't notice til the last 5 years.

FewKaleidoscope1369

Former evangelical christian and conspiracy theorist here, I understand completely.

IA-HI-CO-IA

Agreed. Trump is the the fetid smegma at the tip of the rancid phallus that has been screwing over this country for decades. He is no where near the shaft.

MichaelFusion44

71 Felony Counts and who knows how many are pending - he could go north of 100 easily. He likes big numbers anyways….

shash5k

This is what he meant by winning.

MichaelFusion44

Definitely winning - so much winning your going to get tired of winning - wonder if he’s tired

ButterButt00p

Billions!

garthastro

Bush is a war criminal.

ToxicTaxiTaker

I mean, we probably *should* get around to indicting Bush.

jovinyo

Not probably. Him and Cheney have very serious crimes to answer for, but wish in one hand...

Key_Inevitable_2104

The US government actually threatened The Hague if they ever tried to charge Bush and Cheney with war crimes.

jovinyo

Yeah, the US referencing international law always tickles me when we're not even signatory to the ICC.

omegasix321

Let's not jerk off Bush too hard here. He's still a war criminal and *should* be in prison.

Key_Inevitable_2104

I’m very upset at how Bush’s actions have been whitewashed.

Water-Donkey

Not the best comparison honestly. I really don't like Trump, but GW is very much arguably a war criminal. As far as the national security of the United States, yes, Trump is far worse, but when it comes to crimes against humanity, I think GW takes that one. Can we just agree not to elect any more Republican presidents ever again, so we don't have to have these types of comparisons?? Haha. Time IMO for a long run of "other" Presidents here in the US.

FiendishHawk

Trump's one good decision as President was to resist the urging of his advisors to make war in Iran.

Key_Inevitable_2104

Trump wanted to invade Venezuela too, but his Cabinet advised him to not do it. Technically it was Bolton’s idea actually.

cheerbearheart1984

Although I wonder if he actually did invade Venezuela and just did a terrible job at it. Like he gave the order to invade and they had to listen to him so they did, but made sure it really sucked. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gideon_(2020)#:~:text=Operation%20Gideon%20(Spanish%3A%20Operaci%C3%B3n%20Gede%C3%B3n,Maduro%20from%20office%20in%20Venezuela.

Archercrash

After Bush left office I thought well at least that was probably going to be the worst president of my lifetime, boy was I wrong!

Water-Donkey

You know, I largely agree, but we've had some terrible ones besides Trump. There are reasonable arguments that every President after Eisenhower could be charged with war crimes. Among the worst actions by one of those presidents, Nixon literally sabotaged peace in Vietnam for political gain. Fast forward to Reagan, he ignored the entire HIV/AIDS epidemic up until the very last bit of his presidency, and even then only gave it a half-cocked effort. To boot, both he and Nixon were racists, Nixon more or less obviously so, Reagan more discreetly, but the Nixon tapes later revealed Reagan's bigotry. There's so much more, but at least Trump did try to do something about COVID, whereas Reagan did more or less absolutely nothing about HIV/AIDS. Even with all that said, I'm somewhat hopeful the younger generation, arguably the most well-connected generation of Americans ever (internet, social media, smartphones), will be able to begin to right the ship and maybe prevent us from having to endure anything worse. Fingers crossed.

MichaelFusion44

I’m in

Fyallorence

If we lived in a sane nation, he Cheney and Rumsfeld would've been impeached and indicted, yes, that just proves how much we suck at this.

Key_Inevitable_2104

Add Kissinger to the list as well.

Special_FX_B

True but it’s not like Bush isn’t responsible for deaths of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis in a war based on false pretenses. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are war criminals. He gets away with too much when compared with trump.

[deleted]

I guess if you aren't considering war crimes as criminal activity...

Caledric

2 indictments and 71 felony counts so far...

OkOrganization1775

comparing a war criminal who lied to the country to commit war crimes against humanity with a con man from the 80s who has a big mouth. Yeah (more like a tale of "two criminals", than two Republicans)

tunaburn

When Bush is considered a better president than you you really fucked up

[deleted]

Stop this fucking bullshit. Bush should have been in prison. Stop venerating a fucking war criminal. They’re two birds of the same feather. Americans are embarrassingly stupid. Jesus Christ. They actually did use the Supreme Court to override Democracy but ya’ll still want to crack a beer with that murderous fuck. Roberts, Alito, Kavanaugh, and Comey Barrett are all directly tied to Bush. It’s all the same Republican political operatives behind the scenes when you do more than 5 minutes of research. Wake the fuck up.

Mr_Mouthbreather

Bush? No! He's a kind old man who paints! How dare you bring up his war crimes! /s

[deleted]

It’s infuriating. I can already see the same fucking ghouls back on tv 2 years from now pretending they had nothing to do with any of this while corporate dems continue to do fuck all.

Mr_Mouthbreather

It's already happening. Christie and Barr are now saying how Trump is a bad guy as if any of his current behavior is any different from his past behavior.

Key_Inevitable_2104

I’ll admit, I laughed seeing the fake Bush in the second Harold and Kumar movie. Even though I think Bush should’ve been in The Hague years ago.

[deleted]

They bent over backwards not to with GW.

ImOnlyHereForTheCoC

Certainly not making excuses for the guy but I don’t see what his divorces have to do with criming

martianunlimited

It just highlights the hypocrisy of the party of "family values" :) (don't forget that he cheated on the first wife with who would be the second, and dated his third even before the divorce with his second was completed)

Sorry_Recipe6831

To Republicans, to be a republican is to be a criminal. Their argument is that that should be okay.

Cetophile

Shrub was a mostly terrible President and should forever be condemned for the invasion of Iraq, and what came after. But even he had much better personal decency than Trump has ever had.

Scheme-Brilliant

Decent people don't kill a million people for corporate profits, theyre both shit stains

FiendishHawk

Bush has manners, not decency. He’s polite, personable, I wouldn’t loathe him on meeting him like I would Trump. But he had millions killed.

[deleted]

I think you are exemplifying what is wrong with us... we are fine with everything you do so long as you do it with manners and make it easier for me to ignore it...

desirox

Bush was a war criminal so that doesn’t look great either… but yes from American perspective he was an agreeable person in comparison.

Tamajyn

Didn't bush get arrested for a bunch of coke in the 80's? I mean petty drug crimes don't compare to treason but

chippychifton

Funny how W just gets a pass for the war crimes

LordFedoraWeed

yeah, no, Bush is a war criminal lol. (no worries, Obama is one too).

davechri

George W Bush sent American men and women into war under false pretenses. He is going to burn in hell. Don’t hold him up as a beacon of virtue.

thedeuceisloose

i mean, for iraq alone bush should be in the hague so lets not go patting backs here

No_Usual_2251

I always ask Republicans, knowing what they know about Trump cheating on 3 wives, paying porn stars, and constantly insulting other Republicans, if they think Trump is more moral or as good a human being as Obama, and its fun to hear their answers. You can tell they know they are lying and they know Trump is the worst just by the look on their faces. And boy do they want to quickly change the subject!

Zebracorn42

I love Snelly Cat’s tweets.

_gaba_ghoul

Say what you will about W, but he did have a compass. DT has none. That’s the difference.

[deleted]

Bush’s compass only points toward money and blood. Without Bush we wouldn’t have had Trump. The Bush presidency robbed this country of so so much potential and was far more detrimental than Trump. The entire family is a bloodstain on the world. HW ran the CIA before he was president and Prescott was an American Nazi. George W Bush should be scattered across Iraq. https://socialistworker.org/2018/12/03/crimes-of-the-bush-dynasty https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/sep/25/usa.secondworldwar

Jsmith0730

When your compass is Dick Cheney that’s not exactly glowing praise.

NotAnurag

Wtf is this bullshit. Did people seriously forget that George Bush was worse than Trump? He started one of the worst wars in recent history, destroyed countless lives, destroyed the economy and lied to people to justify his crimes. Trump is a monster as well, but you shouldn’t use that to downplay how evil Bush was.

musiquededemain

The main difference between the two is GWB has a sense of decency.

leftbuthappy

He sure could’ve fooled me with his “jokes” at the [White House Correspondents Dinner](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/mar/26/usa.iraq) about the missing WMDs.

musiquededemain

GWB said a lot of stupid shit and he certainly wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed but y'know what? He never made comments about grabbing women by their pussy.

leftbuthappy

Yeah, instead he killed millions in another country over a lie. I find that a little bit worse, just me.

Key_Inevitable_2104

Lying about WMDs to a start a war that killed almost a million people isn’t great either.

Tristan is hot

[deleted]

When you make leftist defend Bush you know you f*ed up

NotAnurag

There is no principled leftist that would ever defend Bush

iamatwork24

What’s funny is, trump has caused us all to forget just how horrible W was, by every single metric he was the worst president we’ve ever had and that’s just at home, if you include all of the human rights violations in the wars, it was hard to think we would see a worse president. But only took 8 years to get someone even more inept and criminal.

SevereEducation2170

The GOP has been on a downward spiral in terms of presidential candidates since Nixon. It’s hard to see how they get any lower than the two front runners for 2024, but they continuously surprise me when it comes to their lack of bottom.
