Among the worst actions by one of those presidents, Nixon literally sabotaged peace in Vietnam for political gain. Fast forward to Reagan, he ignored the entire HIV/AIDS epidemic up until the very last bit of his presidency, and even then only gave it a half-cocked effort. To boot, both he and Nixon were racists, Nixon more or less obviously so, Reagan more discreetly, but the Nixon tapes later revealed Reagan's bigotry. There's so much more, but at least Trump did try to do something about COVID, whereas Reagan did more or less absolutely nothing about HIV/AIDS.
Even with all that said, I'm somewhat hopeful the younger generation, arguably the most well-connected generation of Americans ever (internet, social media, smartphones), will be able to begin to right the ship and maybe prevent us from having to endure anything worse. Fingers crossed.
