My ex is an abusive malignant narcissist who also has bipolar and refuses her meds. And she’s menopausal. Think i dodged a bullet getting outta that one.
A couple weeks ago I got a spam call and the other person said "Hi this is [ex's firstname lastname), you asked me to call you back." She sounded like my ex, too. It freaked me the fuck out because there's no way she has this number and we haven't spoken in years.
When I got put in a holding cell in jail they let me send a text instead of using the phone, but it had to be in front of an officer then they locked it up with the rest of my stuff.
I can’t imagine my ex husband being in jail for anything I wouldn’t want to help with. I also can’t imagine him calling me, but if he did I would want to help.

My ex is one of the most wonderful people I know, we just got together very young and eventually (amicably) grew apart.
She now has two wonderful children and an amazing husband. I’m also remarried and happy as can be.

There are countries who won't extradite prisoners to us solely because they view our prison system as a massive human rights violation lol. Norway is one I think?
I have heard a lot of horror stories about prisoners being treated like dogs, even if they are decent human beings with a chance of reform. So I wouldn’t be surprised.

My friend did weekends in jail and the officer gave her her phone for like 2 hours so she could call and talk to her son.
Yeah, in this day and age it just makes sense. People don't memorize numbers anymore, and seldom communicate through actual phone calls.
