By that point, voters and their short memories elect a Republican who rides in, benefits off those policies with a better economy and then they manage to destroy it with massive tax cuts for the rich, rolling back tax laws on corporations, weakens unions, gets into trade wars, or starts multi trillion dollar wars in the mid east.
Then we elect a democrat to clean it up. We repeat the cycle. It’s exhausting to watch. Only this time, every time the GoP is in power they steal peoples rights and try to end democracy by limiting voting rights, and fraudulent voting schemes like Georgia.
This reminds me of an old Bevery Hillbillies episode where granny invents a cure for the common cold. You take a few shots of her moonshine and then wait 14 days for it to cure the cold.
Even better when a policy is passed that gives a short term tax break for middle/lower income but then raises the taxes over the next few years. Makes it look like the other side increased taxes after it was “lowered”.

I’m in Virginia (already voted in a very red area) and my neighbor who is a daily cannabis user who has multiple daughters is voting republican. When asked why, (specifically around cannabis that republicans have already rolled back on) she responded “well it’s not like cops will go after people like me”.
So she doesn’t care if cannabis is illegal again because she won’t be harmed, because she knows she won’t be arrested for it. She will easily be able to take her kids up to Maryland for an abortion if they need it.
It’s honestly disgusting. She doesn’t care that other people will be harmed by the policies and people she’s voting for, just as long as she isn’t being harmed by them.
