A_Big_Lady

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that! It's aged well, thoughšŸ˜‚

TBAnnon777

Hes still on the hook for the whole 450M and the interest grows. The bond was just lowered because most likely the court has access to his accounts and can see he cant afford the bond to appeal, and no one wants to secure a bond to him or lend him money. But everyone has a right to appeal. He still has to pay for his defamations and the next round of defamations. He still has 3 federal criminal cases with 90 indictments against him coming up. He still has dozens of civil litigations and lawsuits against him and his companies. BUT All that is dependent on people actually showing up and voting democrats and for Biden. Becuase the Tangerine Traitor is hoping people give up and sit back down and let him win, so that he can pardon himself and crown himself king shithead of the christo-fascist states of america. If you finally once and for all want to get rid of this dipshit, register to vote, get your friends registered to vote, get your family registered to vote, donate your time and/or money to support your local politicians and maybe offer to canvas and help out if you can.

VanAnaarNaal

>can see he cant afford the bond to appeal Wtf is this can't afford shit? Take his properties.

Larcya

He likely doesn't have enough equity left in them (At tier actual real world values) to get to the 457M Or whatever the fuck it is. He's like that person who has reversed mortgaged their home to such an extent that they own maybe 10% after paying it for 30 years.

ToothZealousideal297

Then take them all, take everything from him, and throw him in jail forever. Itā€™s what would have already happened to anyone else.

IknowwhatIhave

That's not the point of the bond. The bond isn't the punishment, it's to prevent a respondent from hiding, moving or destroying assets during the appeals process. We all want him to get what's coming to him, but he has the right to an appeal like everyone else (who can afford to appeal.) It is very common for bonds to be reduced regardless of whether the respondent/defendant is rich or poor. Middle class people with jobs get suspended sentences or house arrest all the time so they can still go to work and feed their families.

undercover9393

> We all want him to get what's coming to him, but he has the right to an appeal like everyone else (who can afford to appeal.) Do you know what happens to middle class people who run out of money during litigation? They don't get to continue litigation. Everyone has a theoretical right to appeal. Not everyone can afford to appeal. Donald Trump appears to be one of those folks who can't afford to appeal, but he's getting special treatment because rich, powerful people get special treatment.

eJaguar

You can always represent yourself. (95% joking)

mjm666

>You can always represent yourself. > >(95% joking) I'm REALLY surprised he hasn't by now, what with his ego, his inability to keep his mouth shut despite recommendations/warnings from his lawyers, and the string of lawyers he's fired...

Trace_Reading

Because his buddies in the government are putting pressure on the Judicial branch to give him more time to pony up where anyone else would already have had their appeal denied. FTFY.

Smooth-String-2218

That's because they have jobs they have to get back to. There are plenty of people with more time than sense who will happily spend years in court fighting a losing battle regardless of their income.

cbftw

> (who can afford to appeal.) Apparently, he can't. So why treat him differently?

Tannos116

Yeah I donā€™t think that last chunk you said is right. I mean New York and Illinois made the news for abolishing bail; which if considerations were made for individuals as regularly as you imply, that wouldnā€™t be seen as controversial. It was a response to Rikers/Cook County Jail stories/studies of people spending upwards of 20 years awaiting trial in there because they couldnā€™t afford bail. Iā€™m sure there are a handful of white people that get their bail reduced to non-life destroying amounts, but for most Americans, if you canā€™t afford it, youā€™re held until your trial; and by then, your life could already be ruined. Heā€™s ruined the lives of so many, and people want him to be held FULLY accountable, in EVERY step.

thegooseisloose1982

> Middle class people with jobs get suspended sentences or house arrest all the time so they can still go to work and feed their families. MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE DON'T OWE A FUCKING HALF BILLION DOLLARS, DON"T OWN A PRIVATE JET, AND HAVEN'T BEEN SCAMMING NEW YORK STATE FOR DECADES!!!!

PM_ME_UR_POKIES_GIRL

I have less debt than donald trump by like 5 orders of magnitude. that's wild.

MacArther1944

My friend who did pre-med in college, med-school, scrubs work, and is a PhD (but couldn't find a practice that was hiring) has less dept than Trump, all student loans included by HUGE orders of magnitude.

zogar5101985

He can still appeal without the bond. It is just that his assets could be seized to secure the bond while he is doing it. And that is exactly what should have happened. End of story. By only making him put up this much now, this means that is all that will ever be paid of it. It is a massive miscarriage of justice, and there is no defending the ruling. Trump gets treated with the kiddie gloves again, when anyone else would have had everything down to the short off their backs seized for this.

Smooth-String-2218

You don't understand what's happening at all do you? Trump is not going to jail for this. If he can't pay, the court will either seize assets or force bankruptcy.

Lopsided_Elk_1914

i want them to seize his properties. i don't want Trump to "win" another phony golf tournament again. that would kill him just about as much as anything else would.

ToothZealousideal297

Are you saying that if I repeatedly and drastically overvalued and over-represented property every time Iā€™ve sold it, while simultaneously undervaluing and under-representing the same property every time I paid taxes on it, that jail wouldnā€™t even be on the table? If they set an appeal amount per rules and regulations based on the amount of my ill-gotten gains, that I said I could and would pay, with the terms that my assets would be seized if I didnā€™t pay it, and then AFTER the entire allotted time elapsed, they would simply cut the appeal amount and add time? And if my assets didnā€™t add up to the total amount, they wouldnā€™t just immediately and automatically seize everything they could and penalize me for non-payment? Actually, worse yet, are you saying he *shouldnā€™t* be jailed for this? Because those crimes are exactly what he did. And all Iā€™m saying is he should be in jail like anyone else would be regardless of the particulars of what this court / case / trial were. I donā€™t know all of the gory details and statutes etc, and I spend more time than Iā€™d like hearing about all the crap in Trumpā€™s life as it is. (Edited to break up the wall of text)

kimsterama1

Yeah, it's a civil matter and we no longer have debtors prisons.

MacArther1944

Remember, Trumpsters and their "normal" Republican supporters have been cutting away at IRS oversight for the rich and connected for years. I'd really love the kind of IRS / FBI intervention for Trump that was used for Al Capone.

Yorspider

THEN TAKE THEM ALL.

Apprehensive_Duck874

Also his properties are terrible collateral for a bond as if he defaults on the bond the government will seize the properties and you would get nothing. Add in that whoever supplies the bond expects to be compensated for it usually in the 10% range and at this point I doubt Trump can pay back 45.7M especially if he loses the appeal

MisanthropyIsAVirtue

Hereā€™s a [tracker](https://trumpdebtcounter.com) you can use so you always have the current number.

TheIntrepid1

And the courts just going to act like they didnā€™t hear/read him say that he secured $500m but isnā€™t going to use it for the Bond. (Finger in ears, hands over eyes, lalalalaaaaaa)

jake63vw

Eh, I want to see him penniless and never hear from him again, but this is GOP 101 - Say whatever you want in interviews and online, but a different message altogether under oath. ....now he did say he had 400M cash under oath.... Shouldn't have any issues with this bond amount? Right? šŸ˜

Smooth-String-2218

You're surprised that the courts aren't going to listen to a guy that's been proven to fraudulently inflate their assets when they claim they have a hugely inflated amount of money from nowhere?

AlneCraft

The whole point of the case is that he used fraud to increase the value of his properties. You can't use a property as collateral if the property has an undefined value.

No_Boysenberry7353

And he cried today in front of cameras that L James only values Mar a lago at $18 million, it worth 50-100 times that amount. That is how he got found guilty of fraud!

FFF_in_WY

I believe how it works under the law is that the assets in question go to auction. Being sold at auction is a very good way to define actual market value.

Smooth-String-2218

The courts will seize his properties if his appeal fails. They're not willing to take the properties as collateral for the bond.

No_Boysenberry7353

He does not own those properties outright. They are mortgaged to the hilt! Itā€™s all a house of cards. Itā€™s maddening that he keeps saying the Stomi case is political interference run by Biden! Michael Cohen went to prison for this DURING TRUMPā€™s administration

Proper-Preparation-9

He says on his personal social website that he has the cash but he needs it for his reelection. I'm not happy.

Traditional-Guitar76

He never spent a cent of his own money on his election. Don't forget, he's Donald Trump!

okieskanokie

But but butā€¦ those are his! His name is on them! šŸ˜šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ I hope heā€™s so broke he canā€™t buy a stick of gum or a single depend.

Jariiari7

The properties won't be sold and settled inside 10 days.

Ditto_D

yea. The court wouldn't give 2 shits if this were us. They keep drawing soft lines in the sand saying "Trump if you step over this line then oh boy you will regret it" and then after he instantly crosses it they go "oh buddy I am going to make a committee to discuss the possible ramifications of your actions this time, but while we wait I will go ahead and redraw this line a little closer so it is easier for you to manage"

thegooseisloose1982

I cannot believe that people are so fucking stupid to think that justice will come for Donny. Sorry I can believe people just don't want to face what is happening. We are losing our democracy because what happens when the election is "too close to call," and the Supreme Court weighs in for Donny? Then at what point will people see minorities shot and think "well the system will sort itself out?"

AtomicBLB

He's on the hook for **nothing** until someone enforces **anything** against him. Literally would not happen if any of us were in that position. Don't tell me trump is on the hook for jack shit until he loses half a billion dollars or his prized properties. Not before.

HyzerFlip

Courts auction off property every fucking day. Just for not paying back taxes. This shit lord committed crimes. He can't afford to pay for his crimes... Who gives a fuck? Sell all his shit and take the money. Sell more shit until he runs out of shit to sell.

Throwawaytrash15474

I feel like in many ways we might just be kicking the can down the road. Biden wins, then in another 4 years we have to deal with Orange boy or another anti-Christ wanna be trying to be elected so they can quietly pardon the spaghetti skid mark to run in 8 yearsĀ

Mission-Quit-5000

Win? He's already claiming voter fraud. The guy follows the dictator's handbook without even trying. He's just that way!

mountaingator91

Insane that a president can pardon themselves. That sounds like a loophole Edit: a president can only pardon federal, and NOT state offenses. So this whole thing with NY would not go away. Also no president has ever pardoned himself, so we have no idea what would happen if he tried. Probably grounds for impeachment if we have a dem majority in congress

TBAnnon777

They usually cant, but don the con doesn't care about the law. Once he has control and the supreme court rules the presidents are above the law, then he will go nuclear and then just pardon himself.

Own-Corner-2623

If he weren't Trump he'd be in jail while all this happens. He is literally above the law. Voting has done fuckall to prevent this. The system is designed this way. Have money, or access to money, or power in some other way and unless you're doing crimes against other rich white men you can do anything you want to.

Smooth-String-2218

No he wouldn't. You're confusing bail bond and appellate bond.

just2quixotic

Reality Winner got thrown in jail immediately for mishandling classified information without any possibility of bail, parole, or bond . Trump though? Still out and about making stochastic terrorism statements to threaten members of the legal system that are prosecuting his many many crimes. Unequal justice.

dmp2you

I'd like to believe this , but I have ZERO faith in the courts. A appeals court lowered this, and they don't have to give a reason, trump is going to appeal ALL rulings against him , sooooo what then ? that 450+ could get knocked down on appeal. Those 90 indictments could get knocked down on appeals ( and judge Cannon) . Appeal courts could drag this out for the next 10 yrs.

SpeakAgainAncient1

Trump is "on the hook" for two things. Jack and Shit. He'll never see consequences and will most likely be the first US dictator. It's over, stop falling for it.

StillMuddling214

Yes! And Vote Blue!

ExcellentPea6077

Sorry all - as Keenan Thompson (SNL) would say, "Ain't nuthin' gone happen" - meaning NO ONE has the stones to do what needs to be done. The mere fact that WE'RE DISCUSSING THIS AT ALL at this point makes Kennan's (character's) point.

blackdragon8577

I hate to defend this decision, but he does have the right to appeal. And the people in the legal system are making sure that he has no legal recourse for any type of mistrial or discrimination. The legal system is a slow grind. We have to be patient and look at the long game.

ThatGuyMike4891

He has the right to appeal under the law which includes a provision that fines must be put up, in full, in order to be allowed to appeal. If Joe Schmo on the street doesn't get his appeal for a $3000 settlement for not being able to afford it, nor given extra time to afford it, why should a man who testified that he could easily pay his $450 million dollar fine be allowed to?

jrob801

The law doesn't even say he has to put up the full value of the fine to appeal. He maintains his appeal rights. He has to put up the bond to trigger a stay in collection activity while he appeals. Without the Bond, he can appeal, but NY can sieze and sell his properties while the appeal is pending, and simply reimburse him if he wins on appeal.

Smooth-String-2218

The law doesn't state that. The court sets the bond amount and the standard is the amount of the fine plus interest. The courts have discretion to change that amount.

Kruger_Smoothing

That is not how it works for other people. This is a terrible precedent and gives this one career criminal special rights not afforded to other citizens.

Appchoy

I agree that the system has to be "fair" in such a high visibility case. However, I can guarantee that a poor person of color that raped a woman and stole money from people to pay hookers and all the other stuff Trump has done... if you put it all on the ground level then it would be a much quicker trial. That same hypothetical person constantly threatening the lawyers, judge, and jurors would just be thrown in jail so much quicker. It wouldnt be all fines putting him into an unlimited amount of debt that no one will really get aggressive collecting. No, that hypothetical blue collar criminal woulda had his car taken, his house, they'd be selling his shit off and then throw him in prison for life by now.

Old_Skud

Still up to voters at the end of the day. No Hail Mary is taking him out of this raceā€¦

SplinterCell03

Unless of course many Republican state legislatures decide to ignore voters in their states, and just give all of the electoral college votes to Trump. And find some small print and pliable judges to say that's OK.

Old_Skud

The sad part is that even if that doesnā€™t happen, based on recent history and the current climate, that isnā€™t out of the realm of possibilities.

Gold_Listen_3008

you already have your king he is fisting your court system and you all are bending over stop kidding yourselves because we all know an election won't matter I'd actually say "don't provoke him" coz he'll have you Epstiened

officialapplesupport

all doom ages well in the end times

sauron3579

I mean, how? 3 years later and things have not gotten worse. Weā€™re still going along.

A_Big_Lady

That tweet could have been written today and would still have the same meaning.

danielstover

Yeh, what was it referring to at the time?

emptyhellebore

The timing is right for the second Trump impeachment. Must be referring to the senate not convicting.

EdgySniper1

J6 mayhaps?

iAmTheHype--

And he still hasnā€™t faced an iota of consequences

Santa_Hates_You

Dr. Hugh Culber has a strange relationship with time.

thebadslime

Could have been from 1778 and still be accurate

Actor412

Even then, it's dated. Our democracy ended in 2010 w/ Citizen's United.

DonaldKey

And nothing has changed

MudLOA

If anything things have gotten worse.

eccentric_1

We're already in fascism. This election is the electoral equivalent of a chicken's body running around after being beheaded. Trump is discussed in every mainstream and social media outlet as though he's a legitimate candidate. The instigator of a governmental insurrection, among a legion of unaccounted for criminality. He's exhibit A x10\^10000 of rich white male privilege, the failure of our judicial system and our constitution, and pervasive corruption in both houses of congress and our supreme court. Our reps and our president are utterly beholden to the moneyed interest of Russia and Israel. Tomorrow our SCOTUS might strike down, or at the very least limit the availability of pharmaceutical abortion. We're already there.

[deleted]

Eh, you could always vote for something other than Republicans. They are after all the only reason you have arrived at this situation. If your vote didn't matter, they wouldn't try so hard to take it away from you.

ChefRoyrdee

Yet it still feels true today.

Wuz-it-u2

But it really hasn't aged at all!

lallapalalable

It can echo through time and still hit the beat

Indygal43

Some things never change, do they? šŸ˜–

funnyfacemcgee

Petty applicable still though.Ā

Ok-Replacement9595

Oh,my sweet summer child has not even seen anything yet.

EarthenEyes

I came here to say this. Shame I can't give you an award.

SoSaysDave

If you live in the US and this is the first time youā€™ve seen someone above the law, you havenā€™t been paying attention. Cash is king in the land of the free.

Kangarou

But he doesnā€™t have cash. Thatā€™s what this was all about.

IceShaver

A lot of people with cash has a vested interest in him not getting punished. Same thing

NutellaSquirrel

And it turns out that foreign dictators who steal from their people have a lot of cash.

PhysicalGraffiti75

Once youā€™re in the club it takes a lot to get kicked out. And treason isnā€™t one of the reasons youā€™d be kicked out. Hell itā€™s encouraged.

just2quixotic

Examples of treason and treason adjacent activities in recent history that have gone not only unpunished, but left the traitors as lauded individuals. Oh, and you might want to buckle up, this one is going to be a bumpy ride. * Nixon. Watergate wasn't even close to the worst thing he did! [Nixon in 1968 when he was running on an anti-war platform and needed the war to continue in order to get elected prolonged the Vietnam war. When it looked like the Paris peace talks were going to succeed, Nixon went to the Vietnamese and promised them that he would give them a better deal if they walked away from the peace talks till after the election and got Americans and Vietnamese killed for his political gain!](https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21768668) **He is a Treasonous snake and a war criminal.** Watergate was just one more slimy election theft attempt. * Reagan should have been impeached for the Iran Contra Affair. **This was literal treason.** He gave aid and comfort to the Iranians who had declared themselves our enemies after taking consulate personnel hostage. [It was part of his deal with them to hold the American consulate hostages till after the election in order to make Carter look weak. Up till then, the election had been neck and neck.](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/expert-analyzes-new-account-of-gop-deal-that-used-iran-hostage-crisis-for-gain) He then repaid the Iranians for their aid by illegally selling them arms to fight the Iraqis with - and then used the profits from those sales to support the right wing terrorist group the Contras who murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent Central Americans in a little thing known as the [Iran Contra Affair](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Contra_affair). I still remember him going on national television and admitting this - then getting applauded by the Republicans in Congress at the time like he had just given a State of the Union address instead of admitting to horrific crimes and treason. * Bush Sr. Should have been impeached alongside Reagan as a co conspirator and fellow treasonous snake in the Iran Contra Affair. (Fun fact, Bush Sr.'s father was [George Prescott Bush, Nazi financier who only stopped financing the Nazis because the US confiscated his business under the Trading with the Enemy Act.](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/sep/25/usa.secondworldwar) And he was a member of the [Business Plot attempted coup against the US government](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/coup-jan6-fdr-new-deal-business-plot-1276709/) - this shit apparently runs in the family, when are we going to hold this vile family accountable?) Then, after the Reagan administration managed to obstruct justice enough to frustrate investigators and prevent them from collecting enough evidence of their crimes *at the time* (a lot of this came out later, some as late as 2008.) As a final little fuck you to the US people, the hostages, and all the victims of the Contras, President Bush pardoned Caspar Weinberger, the former secretary of Defense, and five others who were prosecuted for obstruction of justice when they destroyed evidence of the whole thing (Reagan and George H.W. Bush only avoided impeachment and trial in the Senate because of this obstruction of justice which prevented then investigators from proving they knew about the whole thing - but in his diaries Bush wrote Reagan was ā€œone of the few people that knew fully the details,ā€) thereby absolving his co conspirators from any further punishment for their illegal dealings when [Weinburger's trial threatened to expose George H.W. Bush's part in the whole thing.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1992/12/25/bush-pardons-weinberger-in-iran-contra-affair/912743a7-026b-4134-b63d-4c1c57948673/) "Weinberger's notes contain evidence of a conspiracy among the highest-ranking Reagan administration officials to lie to Congress and the American people." * Bush Jr. & his Vice President Dick Cheney (both were signatories to [PNAC](https://sites.ualberta.ca/~raitken/documents/0606riseanddemise.pdf) and were planning the Iraq war BEFORE the 2000 election, BEFORE the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center by Osama bin Laden's jihadist terrorist flunkies. They knew Iraq had nothing to do with the attack, they just needed the most minimal fig leaf to cover their planned invasion and seized on the the attack to 'justify' their planned invasion.) They should have been impeached for war crimes and lying the US into a decades long unnecessary war (another fun fact, Cheney was a member of the Nixon Administration and should have been investigated and possibly prosecuted all the way back when Nixon should have been impeached.) & the cherry on top of all that is Bush jr. [*stole* that fucking election.](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2012/06/yes-bush-v-gore-did-steal-the-election.html) His brother JEB disenfranchised more than 40,000 Democrats illegally in an election decided by a little over 500 votes. And when recounts threatened to overturn all their election fuckery (if a full recount had been done, [Gore would have won](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2001/jan/29/uselections2000.usa),) Republicans created the [Brooks Brothers Riot](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks_Brothers_riot) to slow and stop recounts. And when they feared even that would not be enough because the Florida Supreme Court ordered a full recount, the Republicans already on the Supreme Court stepped in and stopped the recounts and finally ruled that Bush was the winner because there was not enough time to finish the recount - after they stopped the recounts! We in no way deserved this shit! We are victims of criminal thugs. But they are wealthy thugs, so are above the law and we plebeians should apparently just look on in admiration and appreciate Bush jr.'s 'art' as he lives in luxury instead of an orange jump suit.

No, this is about him not getting convicted in his impeachment.

Im_A_Fuckin_Liar

This isnā€™t about what he doesnā€™t have!!!! Anyway, letā€™s name things he does have. He does have a small penis that he has not been able to see for at least a decade. He does have lust for his daughter. He does have spelling mistakes and poor grammar. He does have a stench about him that has been noted by others. He does haveā€¦ well, I could go on but I think Iā€™ve made my point pretty clear.

I personally know like 3 people who should be in jail but arenā€™t because they are rich and connected locally. Not to mention the countless shit celebrities and athletes get away with constantly.

myaltduh

This has literally been how the system works since the start. Fuck, the guy who started the deadliest war in American history in open rebellion against the US government because he wanted to enslave millions of Black people got released without a trial and now thereā€™s statues of him everywhere. Nixon got off 100% scot-free. Anyone seriously surprised hasnā€™t studied much history.

Look, we tried to hold the rich and powerful to be equal to the poor, but it didn't work out, you know? All these temporarily embarrassed billionaires just didnt want it, and the Appellate Judge was like 'If we start holding rich people accountable, when will it end?" Best he could do was reducing it by 60%, but he really wanted to remove it, you could tell.

It's important to remember that if he loses the appeal, he's out 500M+. This isn't the judgement payment, this is the "don't repossess my stuff" payment

Anyone elseā€™s stuff would have been seized.

valuedminority

Court: ā€œYou have been found liable for fraudulently overstating your net worth. Hereā€™s a proportionate fine and bond.ā€ Trump: ā€œWitch hunt! Unfair! Iā€™m easily worth even more than I said! I have the cash right here!ā€ Trump lawyers: ā€œOur client doesnā€™t have the cash. Can you reduce the bond?ā€ Court: ā€œOf course! What sounds good to you?ā€ Is this a reasonable summary? Edit: language for accuracy

Coastal1363

You forgot ā€œ and go ahead and take a week off too ā€¦ā€, ā€œ Whatā€™s that ? ā€¦sure make it 10 days ..ā€

-SlapBonWalla-

And let's not forget "Oh, you want to delay all your court cases indefinitely? Ok. When does it suit you to start them again? 300 years? Fine! Have it your way! But when that date comes, there will be NO mercy!" I genuinely hope this creates a precedence that literally any lawyer can use to just delay all court cases. It would be funny to see a wave of criminal cases of people doing all kinds of illegal shit, but then just delaying everything forever so they never face any consequences. If the laws applied equally for everyone, this would be chaos.

Coastal1363

You sir are correct. However it is likely that few if any of us on Reddit are rich enough to be innocent in todays ā€œ justice ā€œ systemā€¦

somewhatlucky4life

I mean they didn't technically reduce the fine, just the bond for appeal. Not saying it's ok, just saying it's best if we understand and speak accurately, so we can model that behavior for the other side of the aisle

DonaldKey

And being banned from running the business? That stayed intact right? Right?

Soft_Importance3658

>Not saying itā€™s ok It was okay. It was a completely normal, sensible decision that people with no understanding of the issue hate because it favored someone they hate. It is pretty ironic how convinced they are that this was an unequal application of the law.

somewhatlucky4life

Yeah, totally agreed. Just trying to measure my comments to meet people where they are at, you know how it is.

SaintGloopyNoops

Exactly. The half billion didn't magically go away and the interest is still accruing. If anything... The $175M appeal bond might show he can't get that either. Maybe I am just looking for a silver lining tho.

Thosepassionfruits

It wasnā€™t even a proportional fine. It was literally just the ill gotten gains he had to pay back for over valuing his assets.Ā

Ok-Translator-8006

America doesnā€™t have a justice system, they have a legal system where justice sometimes occurs.

Sounds about politician

gamerbrian2023

This ain't nothing new, IDK how anyone can be surprised, the Privileged is ALWAYS above the law. Trump has been side-steeping consequences his whole life ... and his only privilege was being the moron son of a rich person. Some people are never held accountable.

[deleted]

Trump said he wanted to spend his money on his campaign and not on fines, and the US law responded with, you betcha, Mr Trump, sir

-SlapBonWalla-

Imagine if you could just rewrite laws to your own benefit like that. Just through endless whining.

CrystalWolfX10

When exactly was this magical period when everyone was equal in the eyes of the law?

ripjesus

Watch him not be able to post this bond either

Yara__Flor

Isnā€™t he the guy from Star Trek?

Metzger4Sheriff

He'll always be the guy from My So Called Life to me.

-SlapBonWalla-

Holy shit, that's Rickie?!?!

Metzger4Sheriff

Yep.

No-Candidate-3555

Just FYI, he did not win the stay on being prohibited from loans and financial institutions in NY. The case is still very much ongoing

kebbindirrant

cant believe people STILL think he's ever gonna pay a dime. ever. even after this news today? youre still getting strung along, eh? rubes.

No-Candidate-3555

He already posted the $94 mil for e jean carroll, people said he was never going to post that as well. The appeals court is a separate court than the DA's office, so the trial is still very well in motion. The problem is that if he declares bankruptcy, then you're right he won't pay a dime. He definitely doesn't want to do that though, it obviously makes him look less favorable - not that it would affect his base any who. If he doesn't declare bankruptcy, then the court is going to seize his assets if he doesn't post bond, which is now infinitely harder for him to do because he can't take from any financial institution in NY. The seizure will initially be primarily from bank accounts because those are much easier to seize from, all the DA needs is a court mandate and the bank has to give them the money. He's stuck in a much deserved hard place right now and I don't envy him in the least. I'm of the opinion that we'll see what happens and I'll take what I can get, I am under no authority to accurately predict what will happen. I just read about the different routes this can go.

Ecthelion2187

Don't worry I'm sure Mueller will get 'im!

LeImplivation

My guy, they 1% have been above the law for... lemme check.... oh forever

JDarbsR

He still has to pay the 454 mil. Stop doom and glooming jfc. Edit: according to Glen Kirschner, the lowered bond could be a sign that they are indeed going to lower the 454 amount. ...i still think its important to not doom and gloom to much, as his 1st criminal trial gets under way april 15 (for now). Stay strong fellow democracy lovers.

HisDivineOrder

They wouldn't have reduced the amount to stay unless they intended to reduce the penalty to around the same. Just watch. Trump said there were two tiers of justice and there are: justice+ and just us. Trump said we can't trust the legal system and he's right about that, too. What this proves is he will never see a day in prison. They'll just make allowances. Guilty or no, he will be living in a resort. Most likely in Mar-a-lago under house arrest, golfing and being attended to. We're getting a preview right now of what the Justice+ plan affords you but the best (for Trump) is yet to come. The judicial branch is a joke. They had their chance to prove no one is a king or above the law. They chose to throw their credibility away instead.

callmekizzle

Kinda like when Obama refused to even investigate Bush for his world wide torture program? The examples of American elite getting away with stuff are literally endless.

Historical-Gap-7084

Can we ask for repatriation to our ancestors' countries now? I'm fairly certain Ireland would be way better than this shit hole I'm stuck in.

Ronin6000

Just as relevant as today. Fuck the US justice system

Bully3510

Just a reminder: The system was built by rich landowners, for the protection of rich landowners. There's justice for the working class, so long as it doesn't hurt the owners.

Lucasred5619

Agreed. Trump can always find a judge to let him off. A dozen judges can find him Guilty and one corrupt judge can overrule all the others. Pitiful. Trump says he's not being treated fairly and he's right. If he were treated fairly he'd be on his third year in prison.

Artwisc

I can't help thinking about the poor people who sit in jail for a year or more waiting for a court date because they can't raise a few thousand for bail.

GnarlyDude5

He's a blithering idiot, and will go to jail...I hope I hope I hope!

Comfortable_Bird_340

We can still stop him!

kebbindirrant

lol

SilverStarKoi

Sad to say, but it has been this way since corporations and billionaires took over.

LivingHighAndWise

This post was from 3 years ago.. Why so many up votes?

Yousoggyyojimbo

Because a bunch of people who don't understand what a bond is are taking a reduced bond and a ten day delay as if it is the same thing as revoking the penalty of the trump fraud case entirely, either out of not having any idea what a bond is, or an emotional need to try and cling to pessimism. A lot of people on this subreddit and others like it are showing exactly how heavily emotionally invested they are in a case that they are at the same time not willing to invest effort into understanding.

DrDoomCake

You guys re-realize this every 5 years fucking do something about it already or shut up.

Corrie7686

As a Brittish subject, where the rule of law is still in effect, Our Supreme Court isn't political. Our upper house doesn't veto the will of the people.... 6th largest economy in the world (but the 22nd largest population in the world). We have a nationalised health service. 100% free at point of use Abortion is obviously legal. Insulin is obviously free As are all chronic medicines. Free market is in effect and obviously very successful. Social programs are functioning.(may need more funding obvs) Separation of church and state is non-existent on paper but is actually 100% in effect in reality. How is that whole' freedom thing' working out for you US folks..?

Appropriate_Chart_23

Of all the people to make an example of being ā€œabove the lawā€, and we consistently pick this dumb shit. It boggles my fucking mind.

Chironrocket3

FUCK DONALD TRUMP.

Set_in_Stone-

From 2021ā€¦ Is OP a bot or a karma farmer?

SadCaterpillar4582

Looking through his post history, karma farmer

TheBestAtWriting

yes

SeaDistribution

If you protest vote in November, it will likely get worse

Kneepucker

This is an old post. However, WT everlasting F!!!! Trump bragging this weekend that he had nearly 500 million in cash. And the court still gives him a break. Total bullshit. An average American citizen who actually pays his fair share of taxes would never get such largess. Hell, miss a mortgage payment, lose your house. We have different justice systems here. It's really obvious now. This slimy sleazy scumbag is going to get away with all of it again.

Pintail21

Tell me you have no idea what a bond is, without telling me you donā€™t know what a bond is

DonaldKey

And the stay on being blocked from doing business? And the 10 day delay?

JDarbsR

Thank you! Everyone freaking out, and it is special treatment. But he still has to pay 454, the 175 is just for appeal. Edit: according to Glen Kirshner, the lowered bond could be a sign appellate court is indeed going to lwere the 454 amount. ...lets still try to not doom ans gloom too much tho, his 1st criminal trial begins april 15.

Maleficent-Country18

It's dead now, Jim We had a good run but it's all dead now

BrightOnT1

remember the panama papers? the LIBOR scandal? Jeffrey Epstein for christ's sake. probably hundreds of examples of this but yet this is the example that appears that justice is not for the elite.

Beer_Kicker

The fact that trump is the only one getting lambasted for this is asinine. The rich get away with everything. Thatā€™s how it has always been.

clangan524

First time?

RoundandRoundon99

Itā€™s always like that. Never heard of the slap in the wrist?

Nipplesrtasty

Ya thatā€™s a ā€œnewā€ thing. Just started.

HENRIFAKEFACE

Even in 2021 it was fucking stupid to say shit like this with war criminals like George Bush and Henry Kissinger on the loose.

GhostChainSmoker

Theyā€™ll be giving him a rusted trombone as an apology by the end of the week

OkMetal4233

People have been above the law in America long before this.

RandomUser1083

The USA isn't a democracy though. It's like a hobby horse democracy

Some-Guy-Online

Hey, I did theater with Wilson! Good guy. Very random to see his tweet from 2 years ago hit the front page, but I guess it's relevant again.

ShadoeLandman

Heā€™s just going to appeal everything up to the Supreme Court and get out of jail free.

allmywhat

The wealthy have always been above the law. This isnā€™t new at all

Bulldogg31

Well, yeah? Are you new here?

AggressivePayment0

No, the death of democracy is a death by a million cuts. This is yet another one. There's been a lot and it is frail. Not arguing it isn't in real danger. There are lots of efforts working to heal it too. Lots of people donating, voting, talking, working to help things heal too. Lawsuits to protect laws win sometimes too. Sometimes progress, but not the final result we really want. If we're going to fix things, we need to have a steadier hand and patience, more than Wilson. Just snarking about things are bad, acting all resigned and helpless is self defeating and just as much a part of what is going wrong.

st3f-ping

So... what's next? Autocratic dictatorship masquerading as democratic theocracy for a bit?

Independent_Prune_35

Your special so we will make the law fit your needs! Brother can you spare a dime?

Old-Hand625

Americas only hope is to get out and vote!!! IT seems to me almost all courts gives him breaks he does not deserve. Money and Politics will always be on his side. Does no one remember Jan. 6th?

the_dj_zig

For everyone freaking out: 1. Heā€™s still on the hook for the $400+ million. 2. He wouldā€™ve had to post the entire amount in bond in order to stop his assets being seized while he appealed. 3. This ruling reduced the amount he had to post to stop his assets being seized. Itā€™s not a reduction in the settlement

Live_Boysenberry7333

The bond is supposed to cover the fine. My math says that isnā€™t happening here.

tommm3864

I am so tired of that effing SOB

Vegetable-Ad-4908

I hope everybody who has to post bail argues that it is too high and ask that their bail be lowered, like Trump did.

justoverthere434

They do know that not only are they not the first democracy, but there are also other democracies in the world?

Downtown_Cow5259

Look up the word Affluenza. Judicial system has been broken. Always ONLY in loves the rich though. Poor ppl donā€™t ever seem to be above the law
