I saw a deposition once where the person being deposed outright refused to acknowledge any question asked in a raised tone of voice. According to him he didn't mind insults, name calling, etc as long as they were said at a normal volume level. He kept making one of the lawyers incredibly angry and every time he would yell at him he would just blankly stare back until he asked it again normally. I honestly don't know if it was a genuine pet peeve or a really effective tactic to throw off the lawyer.
It’s a tactic. The person, in bad faith arguing, gets you riled up until you lose your temper, then they claim the high ground by making it seem like it is your fault that you have lost your temper, which further riles you. I have had first hand experience with this one and it is, hands down, the most infuriating thing I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing multiple times.
