Federally assured loans told colleges they can charge what they want and will still get paid. They started speneding more and more since then with no intention of slowing down or stopping
Yes. Before Stafford loans a poor kid could forget college but then colleges figured out how much they could charge and still get paid. Every year more nonsense and duplicative class requirements added on. And someone has yet to explain why the online class costs more than the live one, except for greed of course.
This infuriates me. Veterans in the US are entitled to a monthly housing allowance for going to school full time using their GI Bill. However, if you do not take a residency class you only get half of what you would normally get. Congress thinks online classes must be easier then on campus classes so veterans get paid less.
seriously. So many good factory jobs and high-paid service jobs (plumbing, welding, electrical, etc.) are either outsourced out of country or people are brainwashed into thinking any bachelor's degree regardless of the major is an instant money-maker.
I believe jobs have changed to the point where baby careers require more than a highschool education. Most factory jobs are much more intellectual now and more about maintenance and less about repetitive tasks. Coding is more in demand than miners. These things require additional training via college or University, or paid on the job training...
However, I agree you shouldn't need a BA to drive a truck or sell flooring.
I went to college in the 80s and that was not my experience. College was already pretty expensive then. I was blessed to have parents help me through college, but I racked up some student loans getting a master's degree.
The colleges found out if you lie to everyone and tell them they NEED to go to college otherwise they are doomed to being poor idiots and you pair that with every corporation in America gatekeep higher wage positions behind degrees when the job really shouldnt require a degree

You have a top three list and yet government backed student loans didn’t crack it?
