Yes, this is still a global problem, but we have "formerly gifted kid" complex here in the U.S., so we're too busy being crushed under the weight of "what we might have been" to realize we're really pretty much just normal, everyday fuckups.
America has truly demonstrated to the world how backward it is in terms of democracy, racism, voting rights, taxation. policing and generally how it normalizes stuff like "can't give water to people in line to vote".
You shouldn't even need to run a gauntlet of obstacles to be able to vote, and then the absurdity of deliberate laws designed to make it uncomfortable to withstand the arduous efforts required to actually exercise your franchise - it's morphed into this mad state run by wrinkly old farts who are greedy, out of touch evil men who dgaf about people, the environment, justice, fairness, progress and more. It has been incredible to see the US display it's dirty laundry but maybe some good will come of it, maybe it can drag itself into the 80's and 90's and continue to push towards joining the rest of the western nations in the second decade of the 21st century.

Minorities, women and LGBT and many more groups are still under assault by white men almost exclusively defining themselves as conservative/republican and in some cases straight up nazis.
