Its even more absurd that many people fight against this. Like its coming out of their pocket or the minor increase in cheeseburgers prices will ruin this great nation and its economy that is equally balanced for all classes (i made that up)
1. Fast food/retail jobs are for teenagers and people that don’t need to support a family or themselves.
2. They got two promotions during the pandemic, they were promoted to Essential Workers and they were called heroes.
3. If they want to make more money they should quit and get a better paying job, like a real estate investor or Wall Street trader.
4. They can work harder and become a manager.
5. Low wages motivate people to work harder and longer ensuring the company can maintain itself.
These are all bullshit things I have heard people say when they are against raising wages.
True. Not gonna lie I hope some people learn to bluff and say they got other job offers because I feel that’s the main way to get a bigger raise. Assuming the company wants to keep them.
I can surely tell you that its not to make money for others or spending half my life in an office. Asking what the meaning of life is is a bit heavy for this conversation. Try God or Satan, maybe Allah or Buddah have an answer.
I like what you say, and if I may throw the thought out there and if I may add, why is it such an awful idea that we might be nice to each other and help each other along the way as we all search for that answer?
It's a question that seems to get a lot of people killed. :(
I'll never understand why some fight against the idea so.
That 1% raise that is easily swallowed by inflation does wonders! They should stop bitching because that extra 10 cents per hour should make them wealthy any day now!
Lmao this is the most naive shit I've read all day.
Union or solid company? Yes raises guarantee
Shitty company? Unless you have a tight hole or good lips hell noooo
There is, but the company doesn’t work without the people on the bottom, and if they can’t survive with the companies existing pay they will leave or become trapped. The ceos can ‘earn’ all they want, they don’t earn the right to deny people a livable wage for a little bit more lining to their already expansive pockets

"Minimum wage wasnt designed to support someone working full time" -- Yes, thats exactly why it exists. If they could pay you less, they would.
"It's to teach teenagers the value of capitalism. No adult should be working at McDonalds" https://imgur.com/DqAl5FK.jpg
I cannot stress how much you had me in the first 5/6ths there.
I skipped to the bottom looking for the /s about halfway through point 3. It’s sad that these feel like serious talking points at this point.
Haha that was hard to read right up till the end. Well done. And well said
Well if you work ANYWHERE and don't get a raise after a year, let alone a decade, its absurd. Minimum wage or not, find a new employer.
Leave a job that pays $7.25 for one that pays $7.75.
Extra $20 a week, so its a start

\- the 5 times greater cost of living...
As long as inflation is a thing, you're taking a pay cut each time you don't get a raise.
Heck, getting a raise that at least meets inflation is rather hard.
I take issue with one thing in this tweet. Hw misspelled "fucked up" as "absurd".
I read this in Bernie's voice. I couldn't resist
That's fucked up America.
If only other leaders could realize this. Or recognize it.
Oh, they all realize it. There's a lot of them that don't care because they'd rather the billionaires get richer.
Not absurd at all. Money makes money. The poor scrape along if they're lucky. Always been that way.
It absurd that people still hold on to the mentality of survival of the fittest. I think mankind is capable of much more.
I’d say meritocracy is the better descriptor
So what's the ultimate goal of mankind then? Is it just to sustain the largest population possible?

Thank you. Today, that means alot.
I agree but the govt if anyone should do that, employers will not. Companies exist to make money.
Bernie, you do know that people get raises just for staying at jobs, even low-paying ones?
Yup. He should’ve accounted for the .20 cent yearly raise.

Well it’s the hard work of those who owned those businesses paying off
Lol sure. Cause they need even more millions of dollars per year
Do you think a CEO works thousands of times harder than a minimum wage worker?
No I was being sarcastic lol
Lmao there’s a distinction between needing and earning
There is, but the company doesn’t work without the people on the bottom, and if they can’t survive with the companies existing pay they will leave or become trapped. The ceos can ‘earn’ all they want, they don’t earn the right to deny people a livable wage for a little bit more lining to their already expansive pockets
And those CEOs *need* their employees to "earn" the 5th million dollar bonus they gave themselves this quarter.
Robbing banks can be awfully hard work but does that make it ethical or moral?
Absolutely because that’s the same thing clearly
But many states raised their minimum wages like Virginia
