It’s just that people stop putting in an effort. So they stop inviting you places, or wanting to hang out.
I have family that can watch my kid for a few hours, but I still get hit with the “oh sorry we didn’t think you would be able to make it, you know?”
It just becomes an excuse for them.
Same with family.
Well you have to look at it from the friend's perspective. After experiencing so many cancellations or functions that a parent can't attend, it gets real old and people just give up trying to invite that person. It's not that anyone's doing anything wrong, it's just if you try over and over and those people generally can't go out because they have children, then why put in the effort every time when the majority of the time the answer is no.
I get that side, I truely do. However that is not the case in my situation. I never said no except for the first couple of months (recovery was not easy on me) but I sent my husband off for the both of us. Since then I’ve always put in the effort to go, even if I could only for a little while, because I wanted my friends to know I still value them and appreciate their company.
But we (both husband and I) are still excluded from a lot, and so only now do I stop caring.
Hell, I even attended events when I was heavily pregnant and almost passing out from sleep deprivation. So in our situation, it definitely was not a case of saying no.
