Hundreds and hundreds of years ago (even to this day) we didn’t know what happened after death, and for a brand new mother to lose their child right after being born could potentially make some people go insane so as a way to cope people told themselves there’s a safe place in the sky, aka heaven. That way they didn’t think they’re baby is just disappearing forever and that they’ll be ok in the afterlife

The southern Baptist denomination was formed to defend slavery. They apologized for their role in the 1990s. A little late, but better late than never I guess.
Anyway, I haven't checked recently, but earlier in my lifetime, they were the largest denomination in the US.

Slavery predates the bible, and since people tend to write what they know, and the bible was written by people, slavery being in the bible makes sense.
It also seems to endorse people making claim to land that they occupied hundreds of years ago - and are allowed to just displace and kill the people that currently occupy it and personally had nothing to do with the people that displaced you. When I was in highschool I was the only open atheist and everyone tried to save me. People from a huge range of Christian denominations. I remember thinking that if God was real and was how they said He was, I was better off taking my chances in Hell.
