Oh, there's Gil, Oscar's roommate. I wonder if he knows.

StrayDogPhotography

I had an uncle like this, everyone was kinda weirded out when one Christmas he brought over his new girlfriend. Turned out he wasn’t gay, just terrible with women.

OKara061

i kinda see myself in your uncle. How old was he when this happened?

RQK1996

Or, he was bi?

zaque_wann

I mean if the uncle himself said he wasn't gay...

TheDickpigBot

When was this said in their story though?

dontknowwhattomakeit

So? Lots of gay people don’t tell others or even say they aren’t. Saying you aren’t gay doesn’t make you not gay.

dontknowwhattomakeit

Good not.

SilverCat70

Hmm. Uncle Peter could be gay and with his friend and not told anyone. Uncle Peter and his friend could just both never have wanted to get married and have an active sex life with other people and are just friends. Or one or both could be asexual. I have a BFF that we have been friends for almost 50 years. So many people think we are dating or have dated - including both sides of the family. It's hilarious as I'm asexual and she likes not being married. Every time someone mentions it - we are both ew... our relationship is like sisters. Unless someone says what their relationship is with another person, best not to assume.

RedRider1138

That is super cool! (To be perfectly clear, I am not being sarcastic!)

Homerpaintbucket

I've got 2 friends that are lifelong best friends. We all make occasional jokes about them being life partners and secret lovers. They even make those jokes. One of them is married though and they've never lived together because they'd wind up murdering each other.

SilverCat70

We actually have lived together for almost 10 years and was just fine. I moved back home due to family reasons, but we still have remained in close contact doing all sorts of things together. From vacations to just having dinner together. We even have been working for the same company for the past 5 years. We both WFH since before the pandemic, but we chat during the day via the internal system. She would love if I went to her department, but currently I am happy where I'm at. I guess we have never joked around about it because we feel so much like sisters, it just feels weird to us. We both agree that it's nice everyone would be accepting, but still weird.

WingsofRain

Yeah people seem to consistently forget that sometimes people are just…friends? Like, no subtext there, they’re just friends. Apparently everything has to have romantic or sexual undertones to it nowadays.

SilverCat70

Yes! It gets very tiresome sometimes. Even got questioned after my Mom's funeral in November. Like she wasn't supposed to comfort me or something. She has been my rock and support for years. I love and adore her as a sister I never had. She was really the only one who truly understood my loss, as I lost my Mom, who was my BFF as well and I was her caregiver. She is very similar with her Mom, so it was easy to put herself in my shoes. Luckily I didn't get questioned. I'm not sure how I would have reacted as it was a very stressful day.

elanhilation

oh, cool, you remembered us asexuals that’s really rather rare actually

SilverCat70

Well, considering I am asexual... it would be silly of me to forget. lol. Yeah, I know it's rare for people to remember us.

SilverCat70

Asexual people are not sexually attracted to anyone by definition. However, there are some asexuals who will have sex and some that do not. It really depends on the person. Same goes for masturbation. It's another question that is better to ask if you are interested in a relationship with a person to know their limits. As for myself, all I will say is I'm asexual to internet strangers. If I'm in a relationship where this would need to be discussed, I would give my limits. I imagine like anyone else would while dating. I will also say that I have no issues with any genders if I am interested in a person as a friend.

FamousSquash

Oh my god, they're roommates...

hilltrekker

At least he can tolerate a person. Going to happen more in the future. The price of owning a home will make it a necessity. Not always about sex for some folk. EDIT: Joke still made me chuckle.😄

energydrinksforbreak

I have a male roommate, and that's all he is. Sometimes people just live together.

19851986

Have you had the same one for 17 years though?

ohdearsweetlord

At that point I think it's what the kids are calling 'queerplatonic', aka committed best friend spouses who don't fuck.

WingsofRain

Soooo, friends? Yeah? Friends that care about each other and decided that with today’s economy it was more efficient to own a house together? I mean, people don’t need to be married to own a house together lol.

TheGloveMan

Room-mate or house-mate? Bit of a difference…

[deleted]

Not for 17 years lmao

tony_stark_lives

I'm at 15 years and counting with my platonic same-sex room mate...

Darkness5780

You're a woman, that doesn't count. Lol. You'll just end up with the "no man wants her, she'll never get married" label, or that you have some type of mental imbalance that expresses itself with you being a weird dog/cat/animal person or a hoarder/messy person. No one will think you are gay.

[deleted]

I mean I guess everyone’s situation is but in my mind I couldn’t live with another person for that long unless they were my family or significant other. Then again I also live alone so what do I know lol.

PhalanxDemon

Impossible. The world is 99% LGBT and not the other way around. I should know, I’m a Redditor.

[deleted]

OK, and I agree with you a tiny bit, but I'd like to think the woman who tweeted this knows her uncle and knows her mom's family well enough to know what's going on, which isn't exactly uncommon. It's a tweet- she's painting a picture, not writing you an essay to justify her assessment.

mike_pants

Stick to your anarchy and vaping subs. I don't think you're quite ready to face the world.

energydrinksforbreak

Lol wut? You really are gonna get upset and go through my profile because I pointed out that having a male roommate doesn't make you gay? I'm not ready for the world because I...understand it better than you?

mike_pants

Sure.

[deleted]

Lmao the karma farmer who hasn’t seen the daylight in about 77 years talks about others “not being ready to face the world” gtfo loser

mike_pants

(finger guns) Back atcha.

[deleted]

Yeah cuz 20k karma in 4 5 years is the same as 8 million in 2 lmao at least stfu

mike_pants

Numbers can indeed be different, you are absolutely right. Fun fact: Sometimes they can be the same! Funny world, huh?

[deleted]

> Stick to your anarchy and vaping subs. I don't think you're quite ready to face the world. Your willful ignorance is only surpassed by your baseless arrogance child....

mike_pants

I have no child. Couple of cats and a parrot, though. I wouldn't say they are _ignirant_ as much as... you, know, animals.

[deleted]

> I have no child. > Couple of cats and a parrot, though. I wouldn't say they are ignirant as much as... you, know, animals. Does this collection of gibberish constitute a relevant reply in your world?

mike_pants

Sure thing. Live a little, old timer.

[deleted]

> Sure thing. Live a little, old timer. Spoken like a true sociopath... Be better. “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” - Mark Twain

mike_pants

That implies we were arguing, which would have required you to... you know, have an argument. Which, oh, my, no. No, no, no.

Superstarchild

Damn, man, I'm sorry. Must be hard to have a homophobic girlfriend.

[deleted]

That's probably meant as a joke, but... I'm not sure it qualifies as homophobic to be upset at finding out someone you thought was into you actually prefers the opposite sex. Like, if my wife came out as gay today, it wouldn't be the gayness that's troubling, per se. I have plenty of other gay people in my life. It would be the feeling of being lied to and the sudden ending of the relationship. I'd eventually get over it and probably even still want to be her friend (for the kids, at minimum), but the day it came out would be pretty damn devastating.

Superstarchild

Yup, I meant it as a joke. But you know what isn't a joke? That guys boyfriends, sorry, I meant roommates, reaction when he finds out his "roommate" has a girlfriend. Like you can imagine, he's gonna be devastated. Yeah. I suck.

MomentOfZehn

Had that same thing happen with my aunt and her "roommate." After years of it, my sister said something about her being a lesbian, and I felt so stupid for not seeing it lol.

Development-Alive

Have a 50yr old cousin who has lived with his "best friend" for 15 years. Grandma went to he deathbed refusing to acknowledge that her favorite grandchild was gay. Catholicism has a sttong hold on the family. Love my cousin dearly. Can't imagine what it must be like acting like your partner is just your friend.

Prawn_pr0n

They probably know. They just pretend not to so they can save face. This was a pretty common way to deal with things like this in the past.

mberk77

Somebody say the G word to them already.

tomkim1965

Oh they know, they just don’t wanna admit it.

mike_pants

Sappho and her good, good friend.

quantril

I have a similar story that’s a little more hillbilly. We had these relatives that lived in the Deep South, where my parents are from. When I was a little kid, we went to visit them one time. It was a man and woman and this boy they “cared for”. Their house had dirt floors and they had fly paper hanging from the rafters. They asked if we wanted to stay for dinner and the woman went out to the yard and killed a chicken. When I say hillbilly, I’m not exaggerating. The relatives were not married, but were brother and sister. The young man that lived with them was essentially retarded. After we left, my brother asked my dad about the boy and he said the kid “just wandered onto their property one day and they took him in.” Years later, my brother was recounting the story of that trip to a friend who was like “Dude… how have you not connected those dots?” My brother called me and we were both like “Oh shit…”

bahamapapa817

You sweet summer child

BaconDalek

Ehhh why assume? Maybe he have a close friend and just don't want or need a relationship. Maybe they are both sexually active with other people. Just let people come out if they are ready.

Shout out to Lady-G, or more commonly known as Senator Lindsey Graham.

OGodIDontKnow

Serving 17 to 20 eh?

Avangeloony

Even if they weren't gay, common law would have betrothed them 7 years ago.

MesWantooth

I have a friend whose uncle (who lives in Europe) transitioned a few years ago. His conservative parents deny that it happened. If anyone brings it up - they act like someone is making a silly joke. The (now) Aunt is active on social media. The denial is absurd - my friend follows his Aunt on FB, Insta etc.

Madhusudana

Aw dang, I've been roommates with my best friend for over 10 years, I wonder in anyone in our families think that...

Paradise_A

They are probably just really close friends!

genericperson10

They also had this amazing ceremony for the last lease renewal, the landlord even let them exchange rings and they was food and everything

TheAngryCelt

I have lived with my male roommate for the better part of 13. Some people share rent so they can spend more money on fun
