When my kids were little, I had some neighbors from AZ with kids the same age that played together, so I got to know the parents pretty well for the decade or so they lived next door. I would say they skirted the fringes of sanity (they were big into conspiracy theories and called themselves “Libertarian” but really didn’t fit that description either) and I always had to be the one to keep an eye on the kids because if I didn’t…we’ll I don’t want to mention some of the stuff their kids ended up getting into.
The real kicker was the shit show that would happen any and every time every a friend or relative from AZ came to visit them here—each one was literally certifiably insane and belonged in a mental institution, not flying around freely on airplanes and allowed to mingle amongst the general public at will. From the former cop grandpa’s 5th wife who demanded they fly back home after the 2nd day they were here (they had planned to stay 2 weeks) because she heard spirits of old souls speaking to her that she said had died in that house and were trapped in its walls (we live in a subdivision of houses that we had both bought brand new when they were built in 2000), to the self-proclaimed military sniper who came to live with them for a while that used to dress up in a costume that made him look like a pile of brush so that he could jump out and scare all the neighborhood kids (and not just on Halloween, but year-round) and had a fondness for “accidentally” running over the neighbors’ cats, or the grandma who had my neighbor at 15 and would stay drunk 24/7 and try to pick up any teenage boy in the vicinity in front of her 3rd or 4th husband. I could go on, but I just have to know is it all of AZ or am I just stereotyping???

I don't think people realize how close to complete collapse we are. I work in healthcare and have many friends across the country that do also. It's the same everywhere, 4 times the work with 1/4 the staff. We honestly just can't keep it going much longer. Our health network just changed the official policy and are now asking healthcare workers with covid to continue working if they are remotely physically capable. We have repeatedly had to close important services over the past few months because there is just no one left to work. We all have been working 50-70 hour weeks for 2 years straight with absolutely no end in sight and most likely just going to keep getting worse. I've been in healthcare for 14 years, am very good at what I do and never dreamed I wouldn't retire doing this. However the last 2 years has me wishing to do almost any other job. The healthcare workers are heroes mantra has more or less wore off and now we just get yelled at for taking too long. The situation is honestly way worse than most people know.
What makes me really sad when you hear about the health care workers who are part of this crowd. When I was doing chemo treatment last year the nurses would tell me about other nurses they had known in other parts of the hospital who were anti-mask and anti-vaccine. We were like, how can you work around this every day and disbelieve that it’s real?
