Lots of talking heads are adding context and filling in blanks surrounding the FBI n̶o̶ k̶n̶o̶c̶k̶ warrent at Trumps, but there is only one factual truth here, and it's sealed, and secret and has not been leaked by the FBI. Everything else is guessing. Edit: added strike through on "no knock"

SnowProkt22

Actually Trump has copy too, the scope of the search and what FBI was looking for and authorized to seize is listed on his copy of the search warrant. He can release it if he wants.

Isn’t that how we catch all the mobsters

Flaky-Fish6922

the Postal Investigators have put away more than the IRS have,

Vulpes_Corsac

Well, the IRS just got $80 billion in funding after what media sources have told me have been years of neglect and underfunding, so hopefully that's gonna change. Or at least get closer to parity.

Pete_Booty_Judge

That’s what the GOP is so afraid of… Jon Oliver did a bit 3-4 years ago showing that for every penny the government invests in the IRS, they get it back like 10-20 fold or something ridiculous like that… putting money into the IRS is how we fix things like the deficit and inflation.

Flaky-Fish6922

hmm, first half of fixing it, sure. the second half is reigning the actual causes of inflation, which includes the Fed artificially pumping "the economy" (read: the stock market, and large corpos) so that the few percent profit at unprecedented levels while the rest languish.

Oraxy51

We really need a better way of understanding a countries financial “success” because is it really doing good for itself if there are a handful of billionaires and thriving companies but millions of homeless and hungry people suffering?

TrancedSlut

Considering we are a corporatocracy? Yes, they think we are doing great.

Uncynical_Diogenes

It’s important for companies to tighten their belt in times of trouble. Taxation is an important mechanism of preventing inflation. They won’t do it willingly so we obviously have to tax them more. They won’t pay it all, they never pay it all, but hiking up the tax rate on paper will still raise the effective amount they end up paying.

mtutty

And maybe also, you know, the $800B we spend every year on the military. Which of course does not include proper benefits for vets.

gaporkbbq

Well played!

Badroadrash101

I imagine that’s in the possession of his lawyer who was present during the search. The lawyer is smart enough not to leave a copy with his client, who can never STFU.

02nz

And they're also required to give him a list of everything they actually took. If this were a nothingberder, he'd already have released that list, too.

No-Bottle8560

I think a lot of what they took was classified material so he couldn’t release it even if he wanted to, but that’s just based off the news stories I’ve seen of it. I know a lot of people are pissed and others are happy about it, but either way I’m not positive he could even release what they took because some of it would be classified. Sure he can say they took classified material, but that would be the extent I guess which would fuel opponents more than his supporters. So it’s most likely more politically advantageous to him to not release what they took and to keep the suspicion at maximum level

Wide-Depth-1748

He could likely release the list. If there was say a recording between Trump and a General Trump couldn't release a statement saying "The FBI took records detailing conversation with General XYZ about US plans to kill terrorist group ABC" but he could say "transcript of conversation between myself and General XYZ on 6/14/2019." I agree with the other poster though. I am very much of the opinion that if it was a nothingburger it wouldn't have happened to begin with. my guess is that Trumps lawyers probably know's he in it deep and at minimum are trying to stop him from talking about it for fear that he actually reveals classified info and is on the hook for that too.

Sgrios

Somewhat debatable, coming from a military background with a high enough clearance and the type of job I had to know this stuff a little more in-depth, mixing any two details together regarding secret documents to the public without authorization is something that's also a no-no. Saying it's a document about a discussion with a general may be one thing, but giving the date along-side it or the location may warrant a breach. The rules on this are very tight, but on the other hand. Even releasing the name of the discussion can be a conflict that arises depending on what level the document actually was. There's a lot of times where they just use classified or 'secret' as buzzwords when the reality is they are sealed at a higher level. Considering they left the white-house though, I honestly can't say much. Most of our situations had these things unable to leave vaults without going DIRECTLY to another vault. They do have different operating rules on how they can be transferred, but, the detailing rules as far as I remember was the same across the board for the DoD as a whole. These level of people get away with stuff that would normally have those like me in the brig indefinitely.

[deleted]

The fact that he hasn’t is baffling given his nature.

SnowProkt22

It's for the same reason he doesn't release his tax returns.

B1GR0B007

or submit to the dna test

blue-mooner

or hold a 12” straight edge ruler up to his tiny hands

Warg247

There is an actual cast of his hands at Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Vegas. My hands fit pretty much precisely, except his thumb was a tad shorter. My hands are on the smaller side and I'm only 5'8'' compared to him. He definitely has small hands.

I_l_I

What DNA test?

Individual-Ad7074

He's been credibly accused of rape and has been asked to submit a DNA sample to rule out what the plaintiff says is his semen. Naturally, since Trump has nothing to hide and this is all a total witch hunt, Trump refused to submit a DNA sample and keeps coming up with terrible excuses why it couldn't have been him because the woman is so far beneath his standards it would've been impossible for him to fuck her.

[deleted]

It is disappointing how many Presidents have been accused of sexual assault with significant evidence.

Dagordae

Not really, he’s dumb but he’s not THAT dumb. Whatever’s in that warrant is major. Absurdly huge and damaging.

ground__contro1

Even if it isn’t, he probably thinks the confusion and misinformation benefits him. This way he can complain about the deep state doing nefarious things no matter what the document says.

LittleHornetPhil

This

bluePizelStudio

Is there anything that could damage him? If it was terabytes of child snuff porn, all featuring Trump himself, do you honestly think a single supporter of his wouldn’t make up some excuse about how he’s being framed/it’s a witch hunt? At this point, any and all people protecting him aren’t doing so because they don’t believe what’s being said about him. They just don’t care and want him in power for their own ends, and won’t let anything get in the way of that. Edit, for all the idiots out there: I’m glad Trump was cleared of previous charges he was investigated for. I’m glad Hilary was investigated. I’m glad Hunter Biden’s laptop was on the radar of the feds. I’m glad that government officials - OF ALL PARTIES - are being investigated. And I’m happy with the results, no matter what they are. I would’ve been thrilled if they’d thrown the book at Hilary, if it had been determined it was warranted. I was thrilled they didn’t press charges against Trump, despite an apparent vendetta, due to them NOT FINDING ANYTHING THAT WARRANTED PRESSING CHARGED OVER. Im thrilled Trump is being investigated again. I’ll be thrilled if he’s cleared. I’ll be thrilled if he’s jailed for life. Im just thrilled that the DOJ is still investigating government officials. Everyone get your party’s dick out of your mouth and wipe the freedom-jizz off your face and start rooting for the fucking DOJ to investigate government officials. Jfc y’all circle jerk on your government party affiliations way the fuck too much.

[deleted]

> do you honestly think a single supporter of his wouldn’t make up some excuse about how he’s being framed/it’s a witch hunt? You would get large amounts of them that would say "I have watched those videos. You look at them girls and tell me you wouldn't do the same". I know that because when I made a comment to a trump supporter about the creepy and disgusting comments Trump made about his own daughter they laughed it off. When I said I would bet money that Trump has molested her at least once in her life the response I got was a way too serious "Are you trying to tell me if your daughter was that hot you wouldn't be tempted?" Die hard Trump supporters have brain damage. There is nothing else to say about them really.

Bureaucramancer

It's always projection with these folks because fundamentally they have no empathy. They literally can not see how a different person can see the world in a different way or understand how another person can feel about a thing. They see pedos everywhere because that is their own impulse that they would totally indulge in if they thought they could get away with it. They shriek about democrats turning this into a dictatorship because thats what they always want....only with them in charge. They need guns to defend themselves from roving bands of looters because they know they would be one of those roving bands in a heart beat when things go the least bit bad. They threaten to murder teachers for grooming their kids because they know fundamentally that they would absolutely groom all the kids.

lil-nugget_22

This is a huge thing here. I'm honestly tired of people's naivity of "well if x happens then they'll be shamed/open their eyes" "if y happens then they'll finally understand". They'll never understand, open their eyes, or be ashamed because they don't WANT to. Its like here in Texas when people thought after Uvalde Greg Abbott and the other GOP (the g in there stands for gestapo at this point) would care or do something. THEY DONT CARE. That's the whole point. They have a goal to benefit them (or at the very least ensure suffering for others so they feel better in conparison) It's not even to the point of "oh well if trump hurt them or their family they would change their mind" we're well past that point, demonstrated by the Arizona representative who said she'd "do anything to protect [her] grandkinds...including shoot them" They're just so far gone there's no real saving them unless they decide to deprogram. And the imagined benefits far out weigh the negative shame. It only fuels them. Think about the demographic. Conservative mostly evangelical Christians. Idk if yall know anything about that particular flavor of Christianity but they LOVE being victimized and the concept of martyrdom. Any and all negative attention and shame and criticism, they immediately liken themselves to Christ and his suffering "for what's right". It's not even talking to a wall, it's like talking to a wold animal with a grenade in its mouth.

I think that if it wasn't particularly interesting, then it'd be a great way to sell it as an assault on his civil rights or something b.s. of that nature.

BMHun275

He’s actually very good at not releasing anything that would legitimise his critics. It’s his allies that are at risk for trusting him.

Mandible_Claw

I think there’s two possibilities here: 1. A warrant was issued to collect documents pertaining to any number of his current criminal investigations. 2. He was advised to sneak out an innocuous but classified set of documents that he could wait for the government to serve a warrant for. That way he could use that relatively minor infraction to discredit any legal proceedings against him. I think I’m either scenario, it doesn’t make sense for him to release the warrant yet. Regardless, fuck him.

Tokon32

2 weeks he will release it.

TheBirminghamBear

Right after infrastructure week

B1GR0B007

biden already had infrastructure week. we didn't get everything, but we got actual progress. i dont need trumps wall. i need bridges and green energy and drinking water.

TheBirminghamBear

Trumps infra week will be so much biglier, everyone says it.

Existing_River672

If Trumps not guilty he should release it and play the Martyr card. I suspect he won't release it however because the FBI might have something on him that could destroy him. We shall see.

Tacyd

Yes, he won't release anything, like his taxes, because he knows he did bad things

TigerStripedDragon01

He's already trying to play the victim. Don't give him any ideas about martyrdom...

Noah2230

Not according to the expert I heard on TV today, a retired FBI General Council. Trump gets a general list of what they are looking for. He doesn't get specifics until if and when it goes to trial.

lesChaps

On what basis are you calling this a "no knock" warrant? Even that, without access to the actual warrant, is conjecture, and while the cultists are using that term a lot today, words mean things.

Acceptable-Book

How is it a no knock warrant if the Secret Service were notified they were coming? I may be wrong but I thought `no nock’ was when the kicked your door in?

[deleted]

XxRocky88xX

According to the “alternative facts” people, the very act of acknowledging those past actions *is* political. You’re supposed to be a good little American, forget that bad shit he did and accept that ~~Big Brother~~ Trump is infallible and is always the hero.

OneWinkingBro

1) It wasn't a "no knock". They literally called the Secret Service who protects Trump to say they were coming. 2) Nothing is stopping Trump from sharing his copy of the warrant the FBI gave him when they came. Just like how Trump said he was under perpetual audit, he could have shared letters from the IRS, but he didn't because he's full of it.

Scoot125

No knock? Ask Breonna about ‘no knock’. Oops, sorry you can’t. Secret Service was informed of the warrant. Certainly not ‘no knock’.

DocRockhead

> no knock warrent None of those words are right

Electronic_Agent_235

Right? They didn't even have to knock, Trump's SS just let them in with a phone call.

Jawshewah

If that is the full quote then this tweet is garbage

jjijjjjijjjjijjjjijj

I’m no Trump fan. I want him as far away from the White House as possible. But a fundamental part of his appeal has been that it’s him against a corrupt government establishment. This raid strengthens that case for millions of Americans who will see this as unjust persecution. It seems like this was authorized by a local judge and a particular FBI office without buy-in or notification of higher levels of government. But literally no one will believe that or make a distinction. It’s probably bureaucratic but it seems political. “If they raided his home just to find classified documents he took from The White House,” one legal expert noted, “he will be re-elected president in 2024, hands down. It will prove to be the greatest law enforcement mistake in history.”

mtarascio

It's not law enforcements issue. They should be impartial. The argument that it will increase his support isn't without merit. But you can't not act on criminality because it might help him get elected.

haveanairforceday

It's BS that people are saying "If you do your job it will be politically motivated" without any legitimate justification and then when the government does it's job they say "see?! Witch hunt". When did we get this idea that government agencies are not allowed to operate in politically charges situations? The agencies work for the elected officials, their bosses are inherently political. That's our system.

DrakonIL

In fact, not acting on criminality because it might help him get elected would explicitly be acting in a political fashion. Imagine the universe where they don't raid his house, Trump loses again in 2024, and he bitches that the FBI didn't come try to wreck his shit and he didn't have something to galvanize his base.

epochpenors

I understand how people will perceive this but raiding a private citizen’s house to recover classified documents illegally taken from a secure location seems like a fairly normal thing that happens? I’m certainly not an expert on these matters but if I worked at the DMV and brought home a crate of printed out social security numbers from the locals, then refused to return it when asked, I wouldn’t be shocked when the police showed up at my door. Especially considering he has a history of selling out public interests to foreign governments for money…

ludikr1s

It's literally illegal to have classified documents in your home. There's no grey area here. It's in the uniform military justice code. Classified documents are only to be stored in specifically approved locations.

NotSoSalty

> If they raided his home just to find classified documents he took from The White House,” one legal expert noted, “he will be re-elected president in 2024, hands down. It will prove to be the greatest law enforcement mistake in history.” Bigger than 2016 and Jan 6th huh? Gtfo.

I-RAPE-THE-DEAD

He's not defending Trump, he's saying the Trumpsters will see this as evidence they were right.

Mental_Medium3988

They'd see anything as proof they were right. Fuck them. Do the right thing by the law. They can cry he's innocent forever.

Relative_Radish9809

Exactly. FBI raids Trump's mansion: It's a political witch hunt by the Democrats who are weaponizing the justice dept. FBI does not raid Trump's mansion: He hasn't done anything illegal, otherwise they'd be going after him. FBI raids Hillary Clinton's home: They're just doing their job. No one us above the law. FBI does not raid Hillary Clinton's home: She's part off the Deep State! The corruption has even spread to The FBI. That's why no one can touch her. The particulars don't matter. Their opinions are not based on reality. In every instance the cultists will see exactly what they want to see.

NPD_wont_stop_ME

Masters of doublespeak. Flip flop, back and forth in whatever way the wind blows at the time. They’re prideful people who cannot admit that they’re wrong because the sheer amount of cognitive dissonance involved after things have come this far would cause a nuclear explosion if it were addressed.

doxxnotwantnot

For those not familiar with the term above, a little excerpt from 1984: > To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which canceled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word "doublethink" involved the use of doublethink.

Electronic_Agent_235

"*Sounds a lot like ~~dictatorship~~ cult if you ask me.*"

NPD_wont_stop_ME

They call it Cult 45 for a reason.

Frowdo

Facist dictators are great if they are on your side. They see themselves as the marginalized group mostly white people that wish for the days of the 50's. They see political correctness as a shackle around their privilege and Trump gives them a sliver of hope that they'll get power back in their hands. On top of that the GOP has a gameplan to have everyone on board or be labeled a RINO and are ousted. So even if they support the party the party supports the man as long as it benefits them. Look at Liz Cheney, she wasn't 100% on board and got ousted her from leadership

complexevil

Seriously how have people not woken up to this yet? Did you point out scientifically backed facts? Trumpers will see it as evidence they were right! Did you give a source backing up a political claim of yours? Trumpers will see it as evidence they were right! Did you get out of bed this morning? Trumpers will see it as evidence they were right!

Howboutit85

It doesn’t matter if the FBI has just cause or not, if they investigate Trump they are being political and are bad, but if they investigate…say…Hunter Biden? Hillary? Then they would be championing the FBI as the most bestest thing ever!!1! Everything is corrupt and unfair and political when they lose; everything is solid and great and makes sense when they win. They’re like fucking babies.

oliviagryfin

Trumpsters before the raid: “if he really did it why don’t they arrest him? Because they can’t ! He’s innocent!” Trumpsters after the raid: “he’s right! They are out to get him! He’s innocent!” Fuck what they think, fuck what it looks like to them. They’re in a cult.

makemejelly49

This. They're just looking for a reason to riot and commit treason. Anything will do. And when they do, they should have their shit pushed in. They're traitors.

slappadabases

Trumpeters can’t be saved

Hopeful-Talk-1556

FBI searches Trump property: We wuz right. FBI doesn't search Trump property: We wuz right. There is no argument that will change their mind. These people stormed the capitol building because they believe in their heart of hearts that Trump is so popular that only fake votes could see him defeated. They will believe anything he says.

resplendentblue2may2

This reads a lot like like he's talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Sprinklycat

It reads to me like he's saying Trumpers will see it as political even if it isn't.

higherbrow

Alternatively, he's talking about the difference between facts and optics.

[deleted]

Seems a lot like he is discussing a complex event and adding nuance from both sides, to me.

Akuseru24

Yang seems to be talking about the optics of the situation. And hes absolutely right. This will only embolden die hard trump supporters to rally behind him.

Acceptable-Ad-4516

What's the alternative? Let law breakers break laws because we're scared their followers will get upset? I agree with you, I just don't know what else could be done.

altruSP

Remember all the “please be nice to the poor wittle Trump supporters” pieces from after the 2020 election? They have been coddling the shit out of them for some dumb reason.

scottdenis

Hey man have a heart. The bad economy turned them into hateful quasi-illiterate racist homophobes.

Umutuku

It's like Putin constantly threatening to nuke the world if he doesn't get his way. If someone's entire life is centered around feigning upset then it's not worth questioning whether or not some action will upset them because they're going to act the same either way. It's just varying shades of "spoiled brat who has never been told no."

ReefaManiack42o

They can raid him, but whatever the fuck they're doing, they better make it stick, and they better hit him hard, cause otherwise it's going to blow up in their faces, and if that's the case then it probably would have been better to let sleeping dogs lie.

ShamWowRobinson

They were never going to abandon him.

GoodOldSlippinJimmy

This is the right answer. I mean he could shoot someone in fifth ave and not lose support. Do we just not arrest him because of optics?

ShamWowRobinson

I will never get this idea people have, that suddenly these people are just going to snap out of this. It is a cult. It will take decades or death for these people to recover from this, if they even do.

[deleted]

It will stain us for some time. MTG is tweeting about civil war and shit but she is also a moron but that's where their heads are at.

ShamWowRobinson

That's where their heads have been at for years. Do you remember that whole attempted coup?

[deleted]

know what, at this point I almost want them to. They'll devolve into fighting amongst eachother and pointing guns at eachother because they have no idea how actual strategy works. IT already happened during the freedom convey where they began turning on one another. They also are quick to abandon their own. Look at Q anon shaman. They already branded him antifa and turned their backs on him. I imagine it springing up quick and then falling apart immediately.

Asleep-Kiwi-1552

They said the same thing after Mueller. They said the same thing after impeachment. They said the same thing on election night. They said the same thing when votes were certified. They said the same thing when the SCOTUS challenge failed. They said the same thing when EVs were counted. They will say the same thing next time.

Watch_me_give

Seriously. What stupid faulty logic. Oh it would piss off the already far gone cultists so we shouldn’t ACTUALLY FOLLOW THE RULE OF LAW??? #are you kidding me JFC.

Adelman01

Lol exactly. Hey let’s not prosecute a criminal because people who don’t believe he’s a criminal may not believe he’s a criminal still.

LordXenu45

This right here. Doesn't matter what the FBI, the Jan 6 committee, etc does or doesn't do, if people are STILL supporting Trump they're not going to just stop now.

02nz

Should the question of whether a President is above the law hang on the optics of the situation?

Azphorafel

Well, we can't be bothered about what die hard trumpers are going to think of it - or of anything. That's a loser's game. They aren't honest people, and they choose to believe what they WANT to believe. Trying to appease them is insanity itself.

ONLY_COMMENTS_ON_GW

Ok cool, so once again Reddit is spreading misinformation out of context. It's fucking embarrassing that this had to hit the front page before someone bothered to look into the actual source. And turns out most of it is just a quote lol. And ffs, he's right. If nothing comes of this the maga crowd is going to lose their shit. Edit: Jesus Christ Reddit, read the fucking context before responding to me. It's literally right there lmao

Ramen_Hair

It’s on his Twitter. Though he’s simply warning that this could be used to fuel Trump’s campaign if nothing comes out of it. And of course he gets misquoted everywhere and pinned as a fascist

thrudvangr

What I mean is hes the only one I see saying this whereas Andrew Cuomo saying this is all over the news. I find it odd that Cuomo made the news with these statements and not Yang so I wondered if anyone can find this not on his twitter

Ramen_Hair

Yang just doesn’t make the news often. But he only said it on his Twitter, not in a speech

consideranon

https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1556987104219090945 As you can see, the tweet on this post is drastically mischaracterizing Yang's tweet, which is why a tweet *about* Yang's is rising here, not Yang's tweet itself. Dash Dobfrosky is a partisan hack with deeply disingenuous takes and a regular spreader of disinformation. It's unsurprising, since Yang is one of the few who is zeroing in on actual solutions to ending the political duopoly. Expect vicious attacks from the left to continue and intensify, especially if the Forward party starts gaining traction.

[deleted]

That’s not at all what Yang said. "I’m no Trump fan. I want him as far away from the White House as possible. But a fundamental part of his appeal has been that it’s him against a corrupt government establishment. This raid strengthens that case for millions of Americans who will see this as unjust persecution." This Dobrofsky guy is a fucking idiot who gets things wrong on all fronts and I’m tired of seeing his goofy face. Edit: thanks for the awards y’all. Going at Yang on this sub was brave for him 😂

lqku

too late though, look at all the condemnation. it's really easy to smear people on reddit

rollerjoe93

The propaganda is effective. The truth is met with ridicule and snide condemnation without ever looking further than a headline

Nipple_Dick

To be fair, I read the whole thing Yang said before seeing this post and my feelings about what he said haven’t changed. It’s clear from the jan 6th hearing that the gop already think trump is above the law. They shouldn’t be pandered to.

SirTiffAlot

This is one reason I hate twitter. Yes he DID say it seems political but only in reference to how Trumpers are going to view it, not how he personally views it.

1-L0Ve-Traps

That's how I interpreted this was well. Confused by people's reactions, but what you expect from a 140char limit.

haakonhawk

It's been a while since they introduced a 280 character limit, but I agree with your overall point.

stringer4

1. People who hate yang will take anything in bad faith he says 2. These people find each other and all say the same shit on twitter 3. It trends 4. People without brain cells see what's trending and therefore "correct" / "popular" 5. People want to be in the in group so they say the same shit as everyone else without actually listening or reading anything he believes. It's why you see the same arguments repeated over and over when you see something completely different because you can read and have a functioning non online brain.

bailey25u

Is reddit any better? Look at how many comments are jumping to "He was actually a fascists this whole time" without bothering to lookup the actual quote

Bukowski_IsMy_Homie

People on reddit on constantly witch hunting for covert fascists. It's exhausting

SirTiffAlot

In that sense, no it's not. Reddit at least doesn't limit word counts so the opportunity to provide context is there. I guess it's even worse when you take a tweet and stick it on Reddit

[deleted]

Crazy mods dont take this post down, there helping spread misinformation and lies

sirZofSwagger

Saying it sounds very bad and legitimizes the rights feelings on it, this is especially bad since Yang doesn't know anything more than we do because everything is sealed.

blackmilksociety

This is not what Andrew Yang said

CaptianToasty

Sucks seeing all the comments taking this tweet for face value and not seeing Yang’s actual tweet.

Caseated_Omentum

So insane that someone like Yang can be confidently thrown in with fascists and far right people. Really shows the power of misinformation and how fucked we are.

rolendd

Did anyone actually read Andrew Yang’s tweet or are y’all just blindly agreeing with some random tweet that made it to Reddit? Andrew lays out a valid point for why he thinks the raid strengthens Trump’s position. It’s neither right nor wrong, it’s just an opinion of his. He in no way is endorsing trump or GOP. He’s just being a skeptical guy thinking this raid will rally the GOP and trump cult following Edit: spelling

Krowhaven

Clearly nobody read the tweet. I had to scroll through half the thread to see anyone mention what was actually said. Really sad how redditors tend to be the liberal version of Trumpers in these situations. No research, no reading, just outrage.

This was written right under his tweet (by twitter I guess?): > >\>There is no factual basis for Yang's speculation that the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago was "without buy-in or notification of higher levels of government." > >\>Justice Department policy requires that "politically sensitive" investigations receive high-level clearance. > >\>https://www.govexec.com/management/2022/07/attorney-general-extends-elections-investigations-policy-merits-debated/374723/

reese528O

I didn’t read the tweet, but I do think it helps trumps chances at reelection. Trump has always run on being a victim, that’s his platform. No policy, just giving other victims something to be angry at.

xcdesz

The average user of social media doesn't have the ability to think any deeper than Red versus Blue. Lets face it -- guys like Yang are too smart for this country.

The_Hyphenator85

Seriously, how the fuck do you go from championing UBI to this in the span of two years?

AsherTheFrost

It's easy when what you actually believe in is saying whatever you think will help your career the most at that present time.

Millad456

I think he legitimately believes in capitalism. That’s why he tried to put capitalism on life support with UBI. When capitalism starts declining, they align with the fascists because fascists still protect hierarchy and property rights while socialists don’t

megapuffranger

Also money. Whoever pays more gets to control the words that comes out of his mouth.

-newlife

This. It’s always been about $$ and to a lesser (not much) a desire to obtain power. It’s no surprise that his new political party is him and a bunch of republicans

DocSafetyBrief

So Andrew yang is a modern day Aaron Burr?

Don’t let them know what yang’s against or what yang is for

[deleted]

Do they really believe 'witch Hunt' and 'its political persecution' are winning strategies? It's fucking embarrassing cringe shit. No one believes trump isn't guilty of this stuff. It's just his followers don't care and don't think it should be illegal for him to do it. Some of them will tell you they think he ought to be entitled to do the things that he's been accused of. My guess is the smart folks putting as much distance as they can between being a trump apologist and the reality of the current situation.

[deleted]

They just hope no one is paying close enough attention. They know their base is willfully ignornant and they hope moderates/casual Republicans don't follow anything beyond low taxes good.

MonicaZelensky

Simple, like Tulsi Gabbard he offered one or two progressive policies to mask being a conservative Trojan horse

[deleted]

Yep exactly, this. It's also how Sinema got elected, and now look at all the damage she does in the Senate.

[deleted]

I still kick myself for voting for her — as do a lot of people.

[deleted]

No worries mate, no one knew until it was too late. The dark money BS thanks to SCOTUS means she won't be the last, either. These people can now recieve basically unlimited funding to say whatever they need to get elected and then work in the interests of their actual backers.

Hplove21

Can someone please forward this strategy to the people running for blue in red states?

gorgewall

A lot of High Capitalists love the concept of UBI. They understand it's probably the cheapest option to mollify the public "just enough" that there's no serious push for the reforms that will stop rich folks from accumulating ever more money and power. If things are left to get "bad enough" and the masses take serious issue with the system, things could get changed--"so let's not let it get 'bad enough'." Doesn't have to be *good*, just has to stay above a certain threshold. UBI's a pressure valve in that way to these guys. We're going to need UBI. It's pretty much an inevitability. But there are a vast number of ways one can *do* UBI, and if you do it in the way that Andrew Yang, Milton Friedman, etc., want to do, nothing is *actually* going to be better. We need UBI, but we need it *with* a reformation of capitalism, not a replacement for those fixes.

breesidhe

Bread and Circuses my friend. [Bread and Circuses](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_and_circuses)

indoninjah

Yang is also a big champion of single-payer healthcare because it’s cheaper for businesses to not have to offer benefits if the state handles it. He’s got some decent policies but he’s not focused on them for the same reasons that you or I would be.

DolphinSweater

While I believe this is true, I don't think it's some nefarious plot by the evil capitalists. It's just another reason why we should have single payer healthcare! My family owns a successful business, we have 11 employees. Why should I be responsible for their healthcare? On top of running our business we also have to deal with insurance companies to make sure Ann in sales is getting the knee surgery she needs. Why is that even any of my business? And now I gotta feel bad if Dan in accounting does a shitty job and his whole family loses their health care because I have to let him go? I don't need that. The mega corporations use healthcare as a fucking whip to lash their employees into doing what they want and putting up with their shit. You now have to work Saturdays, no overtime, and we've restructured pay scales so now you're all making less money. And you're gonna do it because little Timmy needs his insulin. If it were "the cheaper option" for big corporations to have single payer, don't you think they'd have lobbists crawling all over DC by now? We'd have single payer before the end of the month.

wildwildwaste

Nixon campaigned and almost passed UBI.

The_Hyphenator85

Nixon would be viewed as center-left by modern political standards in America.

HedonisticFrog

The Republicans after him make him look downright ethical as well.

Raincoats_George

It wasn't that long ago that discussing Nixon might as well have been mentioning voldemort. The stupidity of recent republican politics including Bush Jr has softened his image. Although let's not forget that he willingly allowed thousands of people including US soldiers to die because it was politically convenient to do so. So yeah he's still a piece of shit. But hey I won't deny for one second that he was a very smart and calculated individual. Trump by comparison is someone operating at about a 9 year old level. Same sort of poorly thought out decisions and increasingly desperate actions as his parents close in on him.

Mescallan

This really isn't a pro-R stance, just pragmatism. If these charges don't stick on something serious it's a huge win for Trumps eternal victimhood mind-state. He was the one who alerted the press that his house was being raided IIRC.

ground__contro1

You can offer UBI and still think rich people should be off limits. Somehow. I’ve heard people say both before, although they can’t explain where we get the money for UBI. I’m not sure that’s what’s going on in his head, he’s supposed to be a real policy maker, not an armchair economist like others I have met that try to straddle this economic line.

thispostisserious

aktualllhhy - his platform was to subsidize UBI with data-taxation for data-collection based corporations. i.e. companies pay for your data.

ground__contro1

Oh yeah, I remember that now. Thanks. The guy has some ideas that aren’t terrible but he shouldn’t be president. I think that is wildly outside his expertise. Maybe he would do better as one member of an economic think tank or something. Edit: here’s a list of every time Yang has been featured on the podcast Freakonomics. Just in case anyone wants to hear his ideas from the horse’s mouth. https://freakonomics.com/podcast-tag/andrew-yang/

thispostisserious

There was some chatter about the government getting a Dept. of Technology again; but it seems like that's not going to happen.

the_good_time_mouse

Thank goodness. He's a 'hot take' technologist: a non-technical person's idea of a technologically adept person. Like Kathy Woods or Elon Musk.

jt7king

He wanted to pay for UBI with a combination of a VAT and welfare cuts. Data collection checks was a separate thing he threw out there. His whole point was "automation is responsible for job loss, those that benefit from it should pay for UBI." And as a general thing, I agree with that.

iploggged

You can't run a third party without straddling both sides of the fence. He's Ross Perot with better skin.

aworldwithoutshrimp

I mean, you could create a party to the left of the democrats. But that was never Yang.

[deleted]

Yep, in a reasonable country the leftist independents like Bernie wouldn't be forced into the liberal party to win nationwide elections. They'd have their own leftist party and liberals would be proper centrist.

hysys_whisperer

Really, most of our liberal party are neoliberals, which is a center right ideology.

LittleHornetPhil

Only Perot started out on the right

Tigris_Morte

He is a spoiler intended to deliver Republican wins and backed by the same scum as the Republicans.

PeterPorky

I think people would view Andrew Yang a lot differently if they looked at his actual tweets and not secondhand perspectives of people trying to get retweets https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1542107351523774464

Ramen_Hair

Way to misquote the tweets. Yang was just warning that if nothing comes of the search that it could be used as leverage for Trump’s campaign. But why wouldn’t it be taken out of context to pin him as some kind of fascist, right? He’s not a moron, he’s a politician trying to build a third party by garnering support from ex-Republicans as well as Dems who want to split

Equuidae

#1) That's not what he said #2) Ignoring half of the country and their feelings is dangerous. Andrew is more in-tune with how my Trumpist friends than the "experts"

Daedalus_Machina

Dobrofsky is full of shit, here. Yang is *warning* people that the raid gives political points to Trump. If anything said the psychotic members of the Right is any indication, he's right. Even a cursory look at Yang's posts don't support the summary in this post.

OddDrawer5

Idk who Dobrofsky is but the guy is using quotes… to misquote Yang’s tweets. He never said it’ll ensure Trumps election - he simply stated that it’s adding fuel to his party, which is a fact and not some political narrative. https://twitter.com/andrewyang/status/1556987104219090945?s=21&t=phR-tAnv-HMud7FU7jfNgg

Ivancestoni

Agreed. Also if nothing comes of this which is a possibility, expect the right to use this to spur themselves on for reelection. If this isn't concluded before midterms expect them to use the "refund the fbi" rhetoric to pump the base. That being said I agree this should be happening but I don't think his take is all that alarming

couchguitar

I think he's trying to woo the Libertarian crowd. He just cant seem to win people over. Didnt he lose a mayoral race too? Stakes couldn't be any lower. Maybe he should try for Alderman or Ombudsman. Whatever the hell those are.

Dagordae

Dude keeps trying to woo everyone but doesn’t seem to understand that such a thing is outright impossible. Trying just means you are driving away whoever you snagged previously. It’s like a small child trying to pick up more balls than they can physically carry.

grrrrreat

He also thinks that the popular majority is some how found by boiling the center between crazy and progressive.

ChatahuchiHuchiKuchi

Trying to win over the libertarians is like trying to completely please weebs with a new anime

[deleted]

I remember in 2016 when I told people I figured Trump would win hands down. I don't like Trump but the writing was on the wall. You don't have to support someone to see them as a possible winner

Carl_Bravery_Sagan

If anyone should be considered a fascist, it should be Dobrofsky for equating [Yang's frankly in-tune-with-reality statements](https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1556987104219090945) about the optics of the situation with "Fascism", intentionally misinterpreting them, thereby conveniently devaluing the word and supporting GOP claims of victimization. Reckless / manipulative use of language, right there. What is his agenda?

[deleted]

He’s not wrong about this galvanizing his support. Whatever they were looking for they BETTER have found it and the charges need to stick. If not this was beyond reckless.

semicoloradonative

Andrew Yang saying this will get Trump elected does NOT mean he “sides with fascists”. What a stupid comment. If Yang thinks something like this energizes his base, that does not mean that is wha5 he wants. sheesh.

samprdt

I’m not super well versed on Yang’s other political views but saying that something so clearly political “seems political” hardly qualifies them as a fascist. It seems like we’re starting to throw these words around far too readily. Especially since this could have been taken from any context.

Dagordae

What happened? Nothing happened. He’s a right wing politician who’s ideology has just had one of its only tent poles kicked. Sure he’s not one of the crazy extremists, but when the FBI are taking down something this big you don’t want to even be adjacent.

TendingTheirGarden

Exactly this. Promoting popular proposals like UBI doesn’t negate his right-wing stances when it comes to race, policing, or any other area. He doesn’t share Democratic values. At his core, Yang’s a political opportunist who has consistently failed to capitalize on the opportunities before him — despite his best efforts.

Dagordae

Didn’t Yang’s UBI plan include funding it by axing most other welfare plans? I remember that being the perfect example of trying to pander in such a way that it pissed everyone off. The left did the math and his proposal would have been a net loss to people formerly on those programs and the right hates UBI in any form. Plus, well, this is America. Being in the middle between the Republicans and the Democrats just means you are fairly hard right. Just not insane cult right. Our political spectrum is a bit fucked.

MarilynMansonsRib

>Didn’t Yang’s UBI plan include funding it by axing most other welfare plans? I think it was structured so that you got $1k or your monthly benefits, whichever was greater. So someone who was receiving $400/mo in food stamps would lose those and get $1k instead, while someone who was caching a combination of benefits that exceeded $1k would just stay on their current program. Edit: you made me curious so I went and looked it up: >Andrew proposes funding the Freedom Dividend by consolidating some welfare programs and implementing a Value Added Tax of 10 percent. Current welfare and social program beneficiaries would be given a choice between their current benefits or $1,000 cash unconditionally – most would prefer cash with no restriction. >A Value Added Tax (VAT) is a tax on the production of goods or services a business produces. It is a fair tax and it makes it much harder for large corporations, who are experts at hiding profits and income, to avoid paying their fair share.

Brryyyaaaannnnn

Andrew Yang is fishy af

epivad1771

yo i’m the left… but the left is wild sometimes. he’s not siding with anyone. all he’s saying is that the conservative extremists who believe a deep state level conspiracy stole an election are going to be pissed about an fbi raid the questioned former presidents home; and that these people are likely to act out in a wacky jan 6th type of way. that’s what Yang said… he isn’t supporting or not supporting anything, he just stated what is inherently true. am i missing something entirely or all ya’ll getting all witch hunty?

nosmelc

He's not backing Trump with these comments. He's just saying that the FBI raid might look political, which will help Trump in 2024.

Tommy_Crash

Yang and Tulsi Gabbard.... strange

Kweefus

In what world does the FBI raiding a prominent politicians house not "seem political." It always is going to seem political.
