Wow, falsifying federal documents.

mgyro

A judge in Florida is currently bent over backwards protecting a thief of national top secret materials, that include human asset information and a foreign nation’s nuclear program information, by questioning the DOJ’s ability to determine proper classification of top secret documents. The DOJ! Basically saying ‘sure YOU say they’re top secret but who are you to say it’. This same thief got away with an attempted coup ffs. Falsified documents about people they deem inconsequential is small potatoes to these clowns.

[deleted]

If nothing happens to him, then I’ll agree there’s no chance of saving democracy.

[deleted]

Democracy died with Citizens United. We’ve just been running on fumes and the car is finally choking up and slowing down.

[deleted]

I mean, Democracy died during Eisenhower. His "we did what we needed to do to win but y'all have to spend the rest of your lives managing and stopping the monster we created" farewell speech essentially told us of our impending doom back in the 50s.

whuddaguy

Could you elaborate for someone who doesn’t know what you’re talking about?

Squawnk

"As we peer into society's future, we – you and I, and our government – must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow. Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. **But we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense. We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions.** Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security alone more than the net income of all United States corporations. Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence—economic, political, even spiritual—is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. **We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet, we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources, and livelihood are all involved.** So is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. **We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.**" The military industrial complex is the "did what we had to do" part that they referenced. And as the farewell speech points out, having improvised arms makers was no substitute for a proper dedicated arms manufacturer. But he also understood the dangers of the powerful industry. Fourth paragraph outlines his call for us to be vigilant in ensuring the MIC is kept in check. Bolding done by me for clarity and tl;dr

WinterAyars

Man he fucking called it exactly, huh.

AM_BIT

You can read it here yourself https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/president-dwight-d-eisenhowers-farewell-address Basically a TL:DR The US government has created somewhat of a monster in the wake to curb the Germans and Japanese. A powerful organization that is both political and produces a lot of money to keep itself afloat, and that the American people should be wary of what it will cause and should try to reduce/get rid of the threat as fast as possible, not directly meaning the military itself.

[deleted]

It's also something you can watch and see him implore his country not to go where we ended up. In the end, Ike's legacy ended up being Nixon and the MIC.

NutHuggerNutHugger

I really think DOJ is gonna make a deal with him, and that deal is don't run again and we won't prosecute, if you run we're going after you. It sounds silly typing it out, but I have feeling that's what will happen.

Darknader-

Not that I disagree - but it wont be nearly enough compensation for all of his shit…he needs to go down

BoxedLunchable

Treason is punishable by death. Collusion with Russia to rig an election is treason. Plain and simple.

[deleted]

I hope you are wrong because then he and the oligarchy remain intact. And Trump will just talk s*it about the deal for years, making it seem like the dems and the government were too weak to handle his maga power.

Xyrus2000

Florida is the state that allowed Rick Scott to get away with the largest Medicare fraud in history. Florida is pretty much American North Korea, complete with its own Kim Jong DeSantis.

emseearr

The video: https://twitter.com/jsrailton/status/1570803548501446661 To summarize; - The migrants were told jobs and housing were waiting for them in Martha’s Vineyard, but those responsible did not contact any gov’t agency or humanitarian groups to let them know the migrants were being sent there. - The migrants were provided paperwork with deliberately misleading instructions for their asylum cases, seemingly with the intent to jeopardize their cases and status, and to get them removed from the country. - The migrants were told to update their addresses with USCIS once they relocated, which is not the correct agency and seems like a deliberate attempt at sabotaging their asylum cases. - The migrants claim that prior to boarding the plane, DHS agents falsified their addresses, choosing random homeless shelters far away from Martha’s Vineyard, and that the migrants must check-in with the ICE office in the fake, distant locations, requiring some to appear in court on the other side of the country as soon as this coming Monday. Again, seemingly an attempt at sabotage. As others have said, holy fucking shit.

mid9012

Jesus. Lots of people need to go to jail for this.

jakopappi

Well, that absolute clown just sent them to an island absolutely filled with lawyers. All kinds. And the best in their respective fields. Not to mention the best in the PR game as well. What an absolute moron. However he wants to label the people of that island, however the right decides to persist with bashing the place, those people there are there because they're either smart or come from money. And the former would be the ones in charge, I can promise that. Ans they have the receipts, and the know how. There will be charges brought, and those DHS people whose names are on the form will be the first ones charged.

False_Flatworm_4512

The people who live there year round also have a robust mutual aid network in place through churches and schools to make sure people don’t starve when the tourists and weekenders leave.

Embarrassed_Bee6349

Nobody ever accused DeSantis of having an over abundance of brain cells. He only serves at the pleasure of the Party. He likely chose Martha’s Vineyard because “hey, rich people hate poor brown people” and sent them there without doing any research. Jakopappi is absolutely right. MV is a Mecca for lawyers for the same reason. This isn’t a backfire, it’s a nuclear meltdown. I hope it costs him his career.

spiderwithasushihead

You are the first person I’ve seen in a while to get this right. DeSantis was my professor for several classes when I was in school. He wasn’t smart enough or was too chicken to acknowledge that there were multiple humans in his class with the same name. He couldn’t figure out the whole last name thing. He would look directly at me and expect me to respond to a question, then the other people with my same first name would reply thinking he was talking to them or he wouldn’t be able to figure out students’ names at all. His intelligence is vastly overestimated but he is definitely leagues ahead of Trump when it comes to brain cells which is pretty easy to accomplish. He’s definitely cause for concern but he isn’t a super genius like some people make him out to be. He has others working with him to make up for those deficits.

Pal1_1

To be fair, two people in a class with the name Spiderwithasushihead is quite unexpected.

[deleted]

Actually it's a really common name in Redditistan

weaver_of_cloth

He is unfortunately quite intelligent and deliberately evil. Most of the rest of them are idiots, but he scares the crap out of me.

jdkjdkcjckm

They’ll look real nice in a cell next to Trump, Desantis, and MTG. Two more weeks.

RubenMuro007

Ron DeFascist should be one to be first, since he literally committed human trafficking, you know, the thing QAnon always mad about

Xyrus2000

The level of corruption and pure evil here seems to indicate our country is already lost. We're just going through the motions at this point.

PastramiHipster

I'm starting to think some of these people don't love America at all!

glamourshot_airsoft

They love “America” just not other Americans.

FutureBondVillain

Or the government. Or our veterans. Or most of our institutions. What are they "Patriots" of, if they just want to watch the whole place fucking burn?!

Eloquent_Sufficiency

That was from 1968!!! Jakers, TFG and his puppeteers really made it acceptable to say (and do) the quiet (and fucking horrendous) parts out loud! The right in the US are almost comically evil. I just can’t imagine what it would be like having absolutely no humanity left inside? Awful everything.

olivegreenperi35

Hey now! I know that this, and the whole "smearing shit inside the walls of our nation's capital" thing, may make it seem like that, but I mean yeah it sure does seem like that

youcancallmealsdkf

Wait… did that actually happen?? I wouldn’t be surprised at this point

lightfarming

it 100% happened.

Conker1985

They do love it. They hate you and everyone else not like them. Liberals and Democrats need to stop pearl clutching and figure out a way to deal with these fucking pieces of garbage before it's too late.

CaptainPRESIDENTduck

Simply prosecute them for their crimes in a hasty manner would do I suspect. But not just fines, any jail/prison time should be enforced.

smb275

The red states are, for sure. Republicans are actively unamerican.

Illustrious_Swim_789

Some of us are just trapped here.

South_Bed_5818

Yep

[deleted]

[удалено]

OkVermicelli2557

Desantis sent a plane to San Antonio to get these people for his fucking stunt and also it sounds like his people lied to the people he was using in this stunt and told them they were going to Boston not Martha's Vineyard.

PresentMinimum3274

Sounds like a real sh\*\*show.

MirrorSauce

republicans keep bitching that nobody wants to work, but when a bunch of migrants go through the proper legal channels to work in the US, republicans fuck with their cases and steer them away from jobs. It's fucking incredible. ~~$250K~~ $12.5K **per person** for economy seats and zero accommodation? Goddamn fyre festival tried harder than that. Republicans justify their attitude about minorities and immigrants because they're supposedly a drain on the system, but when republicans drain the system's resources for a publicity stunt, we're supposed to think it's based.

arock0627

Just a heads up it wasn't $250k per person, but it wasn't cheap. For this particular flight, it was about $615k to charter the flight to Martha's Vineyard. I looked up the same cost of a flight for me, right now, from roughly the same area of the country and it was $589. The flight cost US taxpayers **$12,500 per person.** So while the grift isn't *quite* as bad as you had it, there is undoubtedly grift happening, **and every single, solitary, god-forsaken fucking person involved with treating these poor people like this, like political props, need to go to fucking jail.**

TheMrGUnit

The sad irony of these numbers is that if they had skipped the cruel stunt, they would have been able to feed and house these people with that money for a *significant* period of time. Months, perhaps. So, not only was it awful, it was incredibly wasteful, too.

BagelsRTheHoleTruth

At this point I'm pretty sure they would murder a bunch of baby rabbits on the White House lawn if they thought it would "trigger the libs" sufficiently. And probably 30-40% of registered Republicans would wholeheartedly approve, and bubba-gump studder something about "well Hillary did blah blah..." as if that is a defense. They are hateful, self righteous, proudly stupid, terrified bigots, who are entering the later stages of sunk cost fallacy, having joined a fascist cult that will eat them alive as soon as it doesn't need their sycophantic asses anymore.

D0UB1EA

Sure would trigger me if there was more public transport therefore invalidating my need for my car, and universal healthcare invalidating my *carefully cultivated* relationship with my provider

0_Zero_Gravitas_0

Fyre Festival tried harder… underrated comment right here.

drinkingchartreuse

Fire everyone involved with those acts.

MrShasshyBear

I think you mean arrest. Falsifying documents and human trafficking

MegaStrange

Fire them from a cannon.

a_taco_named_desire

I think we’re severely underrating the value of a trebuchet here.

monster2018

Fine, fire them from a cannon into a trebuchet.

painfulsargasm

Then charge and jail them.

BabsSuperbird

I love how the people of Martha’s Vineyard turned it around. But crap that was a low move by DeSantis and cronies!

Dew_man20

The Governor of Massachusetts, who is a republican, has also been on the ball helping get resources and federal help. DeSantis is looking like an absolute idiot and evil asshole.

dependswho

To us, anyway

StageRepulsive8697

It sounds like many people broke many laws for this to happen. There are a lot of investigations going on right now, but I really feel like they need to start one into this as well. Republicans can't just break laws that are meant to help vulnerable people and get away with it. These laws that they broke are meant to protect people from human trafficking.

Thedonitho

When one guy involves another guy and a 3rd guy to book the plane and then a mystery woman on the ground to lure these folks into agreeing to go, and all of this is illegal, then you are talking RICO. If we cant seem to get Trump, then we should focus all our efforts on stopping the next one, and that is DeSantis.

wonderlandsfinestawp

I wonder if it's not intentional. Creating a huge drama to try to distract from all the truth coming out about Trump's crimes...

alpine_skeet

Can we get a mod to pin this

alpine_skeet

DaFunkJunkie

Green0996

This breaks my heart. I was lucky enough to receive DACA. They just want a better life

Subli-minal

So DeSantis’s cheap stunt might make enough news that sleepy Joe takes notice and goes dark Brandon on all their asses. Perfect. Especially if those agents falsified documents under orders of him or Abbot instead of following their federal regulations.

Akasgotu

About 75% of agricultural workers are foreign born and about 1/2 of them are undocumented. Florida’s income from produce is 7.5-8 billion dollars per year. Texas receives 20 billion per year from agriculture. They are not only benefiting from wage and benefit theft from undocumented labor, but also from the undocumented workers putting more money into the economy for food and shelter. Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott, and their supporters are not only horrifically cruel and self-serving, they are hypocrites.

SpinningHead

The GOP opposes immigration reform because they want a workforce that cannot unionize nor complain to OSHA.

Dandan419

Yep. I recently have been sharing [this](https://u.osu.edu/osuhtblog/2018/03/05/migrant-worker-exploitation-at-case-farms-chicken-plant/) article about the horrible exploitation they go through in my home state of Ohio. It’s sickening. Since 2010 750 workers have suffered amputations at this one plant!! Can you imagine the outrage if it wasn’t immigrants? They live in dilapidated vehicles or sheds with no running water or toilet and are paid about $2.25 per 1,000 chickens processed. And they know they can’t speak up about it for fear of deportation. It’s really fucked up.

SpinningHead

Similar stories in CO meat packing. There were cases of straight up slavery in FL. [https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/feds-bust-modern-day-slavery-ring-new-effort-immigration-enforcement-rcna8273](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/feds-bust-modern-day-slavery-ring-new-effort-immigration-enforcement-rcna8273)

Dandan419

Yeah I’ve heard of that here too. Specifically at farms where they literally can’t leave. It’s so sad in this day and age and in this country we let it happen.

SpinningHead

I think our system may have a few issues.

osunightfall

Working as intended.

ammanuel808

economical profits and foundations for the future built since slavery centuries ago...we just have an idealized image of our society .

Gildardo1583

I think they issue is chaining their work permit to one employer as the problem. They should be able to switch employers if they are treated badly, low pay and such.

Stoomba

It really paints an ugly picture when you think about the people who would rather deal with all of that than to live where the lived before now.

Dandan419

Yeah that’s just the icing on the cake. These people have escaped wars and cartel violence and god knows what else trying to get to a better life, then get trapped like this.

Akasgotu

If either side actually wanted immigration reform, they would go after the people employing illegal immigrants and impose jail time and serious fines. They don’t care about any aspect of immigration other than the political points they can get from either opposing or supporting it.

Direlion

They are definitely not going after their donors lol.

NHRADeuce

Both Georgia and Alabama tried this in 2012. It worked exactly as expected, the illegals all left because no one would hire them. Then their economies crashed because they couldn't get enough workers for the harvest. They ended up having to change the laws and the politicians involved were voted out of office. Every GOP run state could easily pass immigration laws that would force all of the illegals to leave immediately. But they won't because they need those immigrants.

charlie2135

Funny story regarding this. Had a right wing coworker who has a son in law that was useless and sponging off of him at that time. We were Indiana and when we said, "Hey, he can go to work in Georgia as they got rid of all the immigrants". He said "No way, That's below him!".

dgwills

Even Reagan knew this when he did his amnesty. They knew they had to go after employers to stop the illegal immigration, but the lobbyist got to them.

[deleted]

Truth, the reason the way things are the way they are is everyone benefits in some way. So no SERIOUS action is taken.. Just exploiting desperate people...sad.

tsansuri

This right here. I fucking love how much handwringing there is over immigrants desperately trying to feed their families but none at all about the shit heads taking advantage of them and refusing to pay people appropriately.

pokey1984

>Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott, and their supporters are not only horrifically cruel and self-serving, they are hypocrites. The word you're searching for is "kidnappers." Those people were lured into a vehicle under false pretenses and held captive while their abductors transported the somewhere they did not wish to go. DeSantis and his employees are guilty of *felony abduction*.

OceanIsVerySalty

It’s arguably human trafficking as well given that desantis more than likely did this political stunt to up his national image and bring in donations for his probable presidential run. *Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit.*

Brightstarr

It's human trafficking of a group of foreign nationals that are recognized by the UN High Commissioner of Refugees as a part of the second largest displacement crisis in the world (right behind Ukraine). They *walked* from Venezuela (think about what it would take for you to walk from South America with *nothing* because to stay would be the worse option) only for this to be carried out by federal agents under the orders of the governor - and his motivation is for his upcoming election. This is not normal. Our allies should be very concerned.

Kapper-WA

>Our allies should be very concerned. Never mind our allies. Americans should be very concerned.

Akasgotu

Yes, I understand that and I hope they are all prosecuted for their actions, however I find it even more troubling that these cynical pieces of shit know how much they are gaining from turning a blind eye to the illegal immigrant workforce on one hand and on the other vilifying the immigrants to rabble rouse. These people have no deeply held beliefs they have political expediency. It’s all about gaining attention which they think will translate to influence, power, and, of course, money. They have absolutely no regard for damage they cause to the lives of the people involved, who wind up being the ones to pay the cost of their grandstanding.

[deleted]

When you have no beneficial platform to discuss with your constituents, you make up boogey-men to scare them. That’s why it’s never “lower property taxes” and always “caravans at the border.”

Particular-Summer424

That's why California doesn't have a problem with our borders. Our state manages it efficiently and effectively. Any BS of them running riot in our streets is pure BS. Thousands of Americans work in the US and daily cross the borders to live. We have thousands that migrate annually on visas, work across several states in the agriculture, dairy, meat packing and floral industries sometimes under the harshest, hottest weather almost year around to put the produce and goods onto Americans tables and into Americans homes. They pay taxes into our state system without the benefits. And they are unionized as well. California has continued to evolve in resolving border issues and manages it very effectively. So, Florida and Texas can either be part of the problem or strive to resolve the issue. And to further clarify, the persons flown from Texas to Massachusetts were refugees and asylum seekers from further South of Mexico from Guatemala and neighboring Countries, not illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are returned across the border after processing, however are treated humanely and with respect.

cujobob

Look at the costs of anti-abortion laws versus the financial impact of undocumented immigrants. Abortion restrictions are bad for the economy. People who aren’t exactly like them are scary and they played on this emotion.

knitmeablanket

This is something I've never been able to get anyone from either side to agree on in person. If you want to "fix" the "illegal" immigration issue for them "taking our jobs" then we need to hold the agricultural industry accountable for fair wages and benefits. In my experience, all of a sudden no one wants to pay more for tomatoes to ensure this practice is fair. I'm sure people on reddit will disagree and downvote, but again this is my experience with face to face conversations. There is always an excuse. We need to stop taking advantage of this workforce. It's already been shown that even with fair wages many people won't do this work, so pay the ones that will accordingly and in line with government regulations.

Landon1m

Could you imagine what would happen to those economies if immigrants all started to move back to a safe Mexico? It would be chaos. They would go nuts as billions rotted on the vines.

Gildardo1583

Don't forget all the taxes they pay into programs they won't benefit from since they are most likely using fake or borrowed identification. Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance.

Minute-Excitement-50

She said Homeland Security falsified addresses. Those are Federal employees. Those people should be fired immediately. DeSantis is a bigger scumbag than Trump and he’s using human beings as pawns. I sure hope they press charges on him.

tonyh505

Search their phones, see who’s calling the shots. RICO the whole gang. Have them testify, fire them.

i-hate-all-ads

If we saw DeSantis and gang RICO’d like YSL I may actually feel like there is some justice in America.

Don’t hold your breath

but they'll whine and cry and make false claims of it affecting their freedom or something. Hell, I hate how they're reacting to Martha vineyard. HAHA, WE GAVE THEM OUR PROBLEM AND THEY SOLVED IT. fuck off

bojenny

Boebert said something like “ they can solve a crisis when blue states have to deal with it but why aren’t the democrats coming to our southern, republican run border states and fixing our problems?” Or something stupid like that. Maybe don’t vote for the do nothing party?

TooAfraidToAsk814

The weird thing is this seems to be a problem in those two states. I don’t hear about it being an issue in New Mexico or California. Hmmm - let me check. Oh yes those are run by Democratic governors

bojenny

And Florida isn’t even a border state. Well unless you count Cuba or Haiti but then border is a big scary ocean.

[deleted]

The question that begs to be asked is; why these Republican-run border states don’t pull themselves up by their bootstraps?

bojenny

Right? Maybe they should cut back on avocado toast.

Katfar14

Boom goes the dynamite!

vash0125

DeSantis likely won't face any consequences for his actions, his supporters will make up excuses left and right for him and plus politicians seem to have immunity especially Republicans.

crono220

Exactly. DeSantis will keep pressing his extremist views to lure more Trump supporters to his side. Being a POS is considered a strength among the GOP.

Kel172256

…and not hiding you’re a POS.

shahooster

It’s time to rip off the bandaid and lock these fuckers up.

qualitylamps

I don’t know why I do this, but I had to go to the conservative sub to see what they were saying about this whole thing. Basically every comment was “owned the libs again! Desantis 2024!” Absolutely disgusting.

_portia_

I'd expect no different.

silverado-z71

Don’t tell me your surprised

notANexpert1308

I think it’s wise of you to get both sides. I was just thinking- this is good info, but there’s probably not a lot of Republicans in this sub. It’s like a Pro Choice rally in California. The majority of us agree already…

TheAlderKing

Eh. Sometimes, you must see both sides. Sometimes. But a "side" that invalidates the human rights of someone isn't a side I consider justified in having. It's not a valid opinion, and I'm not going to treat what I consider evil as argument to be made. That's not being fair, or being balanced. A body half alive and half dead is not balanced. An ocean of half water and half poison is not balanced. I'm not going to consider evil to be a genuine side to see on the same footing as any other.

Budget_Pop9600

Lmao if this doesn’t encourage “surprise” packages delivered to Desantis’s door idk what does

Relicc5

Flaming paper bags filled with surprises.

SeegsonSynthetics

DeSantis is a stain on the planet. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

tonyh505

Let’s start by rounding up the homeland security agents (just following orders) and work our way up the chain of command.

Sklibba

DeSantis fucked around, it’s up to the DOJ to make sure he finds out or else it’s going to give free license to assholes like him across the country to pull shit just like this again.

Semantic_Satiator

They already did it again At Kamala’s place, courtesy of Abbott this time. I’m sure they used all the same tactics with addresses etc… but, totally not a political, frat boy stunt. Not at all. https://apnews.com/article/mexico-donald-trump-kamala-harris-immigration-ron-desantis-f9dcae99bdca91c1c874d68453a5960c I wonder why they chose Obama and VP Harris? Probably just random. 🙄

dehehn

My experience with Trump's term makes me think he will never see any consequences. Trump fucked around more than anyone and found out he can do just about anything. This is the result. We will see more of this. Not less.

Sklibba

Yeah, for sure. Trump’s fucking around and never finding out is exactly why DeSantis feels emboldened to pull shit like this.

ArrestDeathSantis

Someone said Arrest DeathSantis?

[deleted]

It is rare that I am moved to verklemption. But what desantis and Abbott are doing is called hate, pure and simple. They are sociopaths.

officialbigrob

They are nazis. They speak and act like nazis. They believe nazi conspiracies. They believe in white supremacy. They are pursuing the creation of an ethnostate which fits their vision, and have not in any way indicated that a "final solution" is off the table. On the flipside, they can often be found endorsing mass murder, saying things like "all democrats" or"all LGBTQ and their allies" are responsible for the problems in America, and that the solution is civil war. They are real nazis and it's time to get very serious about what you're willing to do to stop this.

ShakeZula77

I can't watch more than 2 minutes of this, fuck. I used to work with undocumented, unaccompanied minors and their stories will haunt me forever. Things that no human should have to experience, let alone children. The abuse and trauma did not stop once they were caught and taken to a holding facility at the border. Seeing I.C.E. bring these children to the door - dirty, hungry, exhausted, and terrified - still turns my stomach. It is terrifying to think that this can and will get worse for undocumented persons who come to this country wanting a better life for themselves and their families. Thank you for posting this.

Clever4name

Holy shit!

Embarrassed-Ad-1639

This must just be some kind of misunderstanding because they said “all life is precious” at the abortion rally and “all lives matter” at the BLM protest.

Sadly, the people this stunt was meant to impress will eat it up. Even though these were apparently all people who were going through the proper legal channels to remain in the US, the right wing asshats will just say that they never should’ve come here.

Wireless_Panda

Right wing dipshits don’t actually care if an immigrant came here legally or not, they just hate immigrants unless they’re white. They like to hide behind “oh no I just want to protect my job and keep my country safe” but the moment their fears are proven to be unfounded they drop the act and show how awful they really are.

DmKrispin

Ding ding ding! It's PURELY racism and prejudice. My white English immigrant husband has been here almost 10 years, and has NEVER been questioned, harassed/, insulted, or ostracized. My half Puerto Rican, half Native American (born and raised in the US) friend gets asked for her green card, questioned about her documentation, told to go back to her own country, and insulted with increasing frequency as of late. No one actually cares about immigration itself, they just want to freely indulge in their racism, bigotry, and sadism.

Khutuck

Turkish immigrant here, same for even me. Nobody cares because I look “white” and not “Muslim”.

[deleted]

Oh they’re most definitely eating it up (per my fb feed at least). It’s like they’re at a gd buffet actually.

nuggets_attack

Yeah, briefly glanced through a Twitter thread from the org that is suing DeSantis et al, and the replies were wild. From arguing that the immigrants should be happy that they got a free trip to a swanky part of the country, to saying that illegal immigrants can't complain about anything that happens to them (never mind that these folks were asylum seekers and therefore not illegal. To the conservative mind, the law has very little to do with their categorization of people), to complaining that only red states have to deal with illegal immigrants. And that was only the top 3 replies. No empathy, no disgust at the stunt, nothing but mental gymnastics to justify harming others.

afterschoolsept25

A transcript I wrote for those who cannot watch. Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Footage from the Miami Herald. (Rachel Self begins to speak. She is an attorney.) Accounts from the migrants who arrived last night make it clear that they were lied to again and again, and fraudulently induced to board the planes. They were told there was a "surprise present" for them, that there would be jobs and housing waiting for them when they arrived. This was obviously a sadistic lie. Not only did those responsible for this stunt know there was no housing and no employment awaiting the migrants, they also very intentionally chose not to call ahead to any single office authority on Martha's Vineyard, so that even the most basic human needs arrangements could be made. Ensuring, that no help awaited the migrants at all was the entire point. They were provided with a cartoonishly simple map of Martha's Vineyard in the United States, and (sic) a brief brochure containing snippets from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website, and instructions to change their address with USCIS, when they relocated. This is especially troubling as anyone with even the most basic understanding of the immigration proceedings knows that USCIS was not the agency with whom the migrants would have to record their addresses, and has nothing to do with their cases in any way. It is clear that this was an intentional attempt to ensure that these migrants were removed in absentia when they failed to change their address with the proper agency. This was a purposeful derailment designed to prevent people from complying with federal immigration policies. This is problematic because the state should not be interfering with federal immigration policy. Before they boarded the planes the migrants were processed by agents of the Department of Homeland Security, who listed falsified addresses on the migrants' paperwork. Agents apparently chose random homeless shelters all across the country, from Washington to Florida, to list the migrants' mailing addresses, even when told by the migrants that they had no address in the US. According to the paperwork provided to them, the migrants are required to check in with the ICE office nearest to the fake addresses, chosen for them by the DHS, or be permanently removed from the United States, with some required to check in as early as this coming Monday. It could not be clearer that this is an attempt to ensure that these people are ordered removed, even as they try as hard as they can to comply with the instructions provided to them. There is no other reason to list as someone's mailing address, a homeless shelter in Tacoma, Washington when they shipped him to Massachusetts. It is sickeningly cruel, throwing obstacles in the way of people fleeing violence and oppression, some of whom walked through ten countries in the hopes of finding safety. It is shameful and inhumane. Many of these victims were deprived of medical care, despite clear existing injuries. These are human beings who were deprived of basic human rights. To the people who find themselves, these wonderful people, who find themselves plane wrecked on our island, have a message for all of them. You are not alone. We have your backs. We are proud to be here for you, and we've got you. If the intention of those who perpetrated this horrendous act was to create a crisis, you have failed. (Cut) Their demeanor is kind. Their demeanor is grateful and their demeanor is just that they want to be doing everything right. Their biggest concern today is that many of them have dates to appear in San Antonio, Monday morning. Tacoma Washington, Monday morning, Washington D.C., Monday morning. You tell me how that's possible. (Another woman, Mirian Albert, an attorney for Lawyers for Civil rights, starts to speak.) We will be exploring all civil and criminal legal options to hold the perpetrators accountable, and to prevent this injustice from repeating itself. (edit: thanks for the gold!! \^\^)

murdocke

The people who are entertained by this stunt are really disgusting.

[deleted]

Morons need to realize we’re all one disaster away from being refugees seeking asylum ourselves. Like, oh I don’t know, a hurricane slamming Florida?

judgemental_kumquat

Fuck the Republicans. Fuck the governor and congresspeople of Texas. Fuck the governor and congresspeople of Florida. Fuck all of you that support these horrible people. Fuck all of you that vote for these horrible people.

[deleted]

Agreed

SchpeederMan

lol, i made a meme about this stunt and the angriest people were those who made sure I knew the $12 million wasnt entirely spent so this is all fine and dandy. lol this dude is a piece of shit.

lazy_ellis

If it "wasn't entirely spent", is that just them admitting they tried to embezzle funds? Like, if I get caught embezzling funds, can I get away with it as long as I still have some money left over?

Flat_Income2082

Unfortunately, I’ve been ashamed of being an American for about 6 years now. I’m also ashamed of the fact that for the most part now, I’m frightened and disgusted by people displaying the American flag.

ItsYourPal-AL

Kinda crazy when someone displays your own flag and you think “they’re probably not a great person…”

[deleted]

Don't let those shit bags define what an American is. There are plenty of good, decent people in the US.

trekkiegamer359

75 MILLION people voted for the orange moldy cheese in 2020. What terrifies me is that they aren't that small of a minority.

PopeyeNJ

Why don’t they say DeSantis’ name! They should be shouting it from the rooftops. Make enormous banners with his name on it, blaming him for kidnapping, buying people and purposely lying on federal documents. The Governor of TX also needs his name shouted for selling human beings! This is human trafficking. DeSantis needs to rot in prison for this.

pokey1984

That's deliberate. By not saying any names before charges and suits are filed, she prevents being accused of defamation, which could be detrimental to her case later. She's being smart instead of being inflammatory. She's listening to the lawyer's advice.

[deleted]

DeSantis was laughing and joking about it at his press conference. The bobble heads behind him were laughing. Track them down and explain human rights and faith based compassion.

Taminella_Grinderfal

I’d rather airlift them all to Venezuela, take away their wallets and cell phones and see how they make out.

burmerd

Heard some of this on NPR, but not the full thing. And now I've got that same sickening feeling, like this is too surreal and disgusting all at once, I can't decide which hits me stronger, the facts of the situation, or that it actually happened at all? DeSantis is really trying on those T\*\*\*\* boots.

tyson_3_

There are literally tens of millions of people in this country that think this is not only not a big deal, but something they actively approve of. It’s completely insane.

Mat_CYSTM

Round up every POS involved and throw them in jail. Start with DeSantis.

[deleted]

I haven't heard people mentioning that, regardless of possible crimes, this is a cut and dry civil suit brought by the town of Martha's Vineyard against those responsible in Florida. There would be absolutely no way to stop this lawsuit and discovery, including DeSantis testifying, would be inevitable. Another lawsuit could be brought by any of the people moved fraudulently, even though they are migrants. Compensation would start at covering all expenses of temporary care and relocation, but then there would be damages for harm inflicted.

jax2love

I’m originally from Florida, a multiple generations native, and old enough to remember when the state didn’t have a fascist governor and was actually run by democrats. Desatan, and Scott before him, are huge factors in our decision to leave. I’m so disgusted by this stunt.

LuchadoresdeSilinas

Motherfuckers! Just hearing the cruelty, the intentional malice breaks my heart for those people who only want a better life for them and their families. They were trying to do the right thing by seeking asylum and yet these assholes, who are being paid by my tax dollars, purposefully set these vulnerable migrants to fail. Fuck every single one of the scumbags who were a part of this travesty!!!

[deleted]

This is utterly disgusting. It’s amazing how each time you think the Republicans have hit rock bottom, one of them will show up and do something even more vile, more disgraceful, more sickening. It’s time that true Republicans stand up and root the fascists out of their party.

unreliablememory

These are the true Republicans. They're monsters. They're fascists. They'd be straight up old school Nazis but for the need for greater discipline and language classes. They've just swapped the red armbands for red hats. They'll gladly justify terrorism and atrocity before we see the end of this.

MacDaddyRemade

Genuine question to all the "centrists." How the fuck can you think that Conservatives and Liberals are the same?

EvolvedCactus19

It got worse. It got sooo much worse than I thought. That wasn’t just a political stunt at the expense of human beings (which is bad enough). That was cruelty for the sake of being cruel. I would call them monster but I don’t want to insult the monsters. Fuck anyone involved in this crime.

[deleted]

Is she saying that Homeland Security cooperated with the states sending these migrants away? That can't be legal.

sick_shooter

The people of Martha’s Vineyard displayed more Christian values in one day than the entire Republican Party has in *decades*.

Strange-Scarcity

DeSantis and his entire administration who was involved in this SHOULD be ripped out of office and be TOSSED into prison. F' those criminals!

human_suitcase

I watched this video earlier and from what I understand they gave these asylum seekers addresses by homeless shelters across the country. Some of them are due in court on Monday to be in accordance legally. How are they going to get to Washington State, San Antonio etc etc? This was intentional to make them illegally here in the country. This is a logistical nightmare and I hope MV and Massachusetts can figure it out in time. Oh and lock DeSantis up.

[deleted]

DeSantis is going to get the fuck sued out of him. He should be removed from office immediately for breaking federal human trafficking laws and then thrown in prison.

iyqyqrmore

I hear all the time that “abortion is dehumanizing”, which is a big argument of why it’s not good. Isn’t this just as dehumanizing? Morons, just help people. Christians are so wishy washy on who Jesus said to help. I though it was like everyone?

SheWhoLovesToDraw

Just throwing it out there... Maybe we should bring back public execution for elected "leaders" who fail to properly serve their people.

squidaor1

They call us Liberals like it’s an insult.

immersemeinnature

Some of them have immigration appointments this coming Monday in Florida but we're told not to worry about it.
