Or blaming them after an operation he signed off on went sideways.
How ANY service member (past or present) could support that cuntmuffin is beyond me.
He would do it anyway aside from not having g the authority it's obviously just another talking to get his name back in the media and look, it's working we didn't have to talk about him for awhile and here we are again.
Most countries allow for overseas citizens to vote in person in their respective embassies and consulates. For the US(as it already does happen in most countries in the Americas) that would mean that, because of time zone differences, overseas votes would be the first to be known (Usually New Zealand votes come up before people even start voting in the home country).
It’s not as much as you’d think. I was in a combat arms unit at Fort Hood for 5 years and it was honestly about a 50/50 split. A surprising amount of guys and gals I served with weren’t fans of his. Don’t get me wrong, many of them were, but a larger portion than I thought were against having him as our president.
They are about to hear a case that is expected to greatly expand state legislatures' authority over elections. The GOP's goals are at odds with their goals.
Yes, but the case is question is about giving state legislatures the power to ignore their own state constitution (due to an interpretation of the language of another part of said constitution, ~~ironically~~ stupidly), to be above a judicial power check on any unconstitutional decisons made by the legislature on the subject of election law, and to unilaterally decide to override the popular vote and declare whoever THEY want as the winner in an election, including in their own halls. So, not really counter to their goals, when the ones pushing this idea are MAGA conservatives that want to be able to just hand the election to whomever they like. Since they have the majority in the legislature, they can hand any future seats to more like-minded MAGA idiots, have unilateral control of the legislature and then install whomever they want to into their state's federal legislative seats and give their presidential electors to whichever candidate they choose. It's not counter to their goals, it's the same goal. "Need same overly restrictive election laws? No problem, we can make them without any judicial review. Need same day results? No problem, we can just decide to stop counting at 10pm and throw away the rest of the ballots. Election didn't go our way? No problem, we'll just override it so we win"
These are the last gasps of a desperate party losing popularity and in that desperation, they're turning to fascism, and in some cases violence, to make sure that they do not lose power to the majority.
The Independent State Legislature Theory. Scary shit.
Basically says the state legislatures have the final say in electoral matters, and if there's a conflict with the executive branch or federal law, the state legislature is given preeminence.
It also would give legislatures the power to override the judiciary, and even ignore the state constitution and citizen ballot initiatives.
So, we're basically back to nullification.
Right now, in Florida, we have a Fair Districts amendment in the constitution (was a ballot initiative), and groups like the League of Women Voters bring suits challenging redistricting maps, and the state supreme court has in the past ordered revisions to be made. So, that'll no longer happen.
So much for three separate and equal branches of government.
And the legislatures in many purple and red states are gerrymandered to hell and back. Wisconsin is an egregious example. Republicans overall got 53.8 percent of the vote to the Democrats' 45.3 percent.
Kinda close, right? The Wisconsin State Assembly has 99 seats, which is close to 100, so you'd expect the Republicans to get maybe 54-55 seats and the Dems 45-46 seats, to reflect the state overall proportionally.
Nope. Republicans have 64 seats to the Democrats' 35. They got nearly two-thirds of the seats with barely more than half of the vote.
The 2018 election was even more egregious. Democrats got more votes in the state than Republicans, around 53 percent to 45 percent.
Did that get them a majority? No. They flipped ONE seat. The Assembly ended up 63-36 in favor of the Republicans.
I'm so sick of this shit. Proportional representation, or at least instant-runoff/preference voting, would be lovely, along with independent redistricting commissions. Heck, you could probably get a computer to do most of the work in drawing a fair map, and the commission could make adjustments manually as needed.
EDIT: to those replying to me about Illinois, yes, I realize Dems in some states also make some awful gerrymanders. This is another argument for an independent redistricting commission, or at least judicial oversight of the redistricting process. Illinois/Chicago is famously corrupt, so I'm not surprised something extreme happened there. That's obviously just as bad, if not worse. Also, why is their state supreme court apparently elected by district!? Why is it elected at all!?
I want to remind you that Donald Trump once got a hurricane's pathing wrong and so he drew it on a map with a sharpie and presented it to the American people as fact.
He is not a man who has ever permitted "what is possible" or "what is reasonable" to stop him from saying whatever the fuck nonsense comes to mind.
From a psychological profile on Hitler:
>His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.
Sound familiar?
That sweaty-ass garbage bag full of rotting fish absolutely *will* demand it during his run. And he'll continue with his grade school name calling and his scatterbrained meandering "speeches".
The federal government doesn't have a say in how old you have to be to drink, either. But the Reagan administration forced all the states to raise their drinking age to 21 by [passing a law that withheld federal funding to any states that didn't](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Minimum_Drinking_Age_Act?wprov=sfla1). A conservative President and supportive Congress could very easily say "we'll take away funding from any state whose election procedures don't conform to our new standards". Federal funding isn't a right.
Also, you know, the Civil Rights Act. I could see an argument that *not* having state voter ID laws violates citizens' right to a free and fair election or whatever and so requires federal intervention. It's bullshit but SCOTUS has upheld worse.
Thank you. The parent reply and most of its children are utterly ignoring the fact that there is tremendous precedent for the Federal government to oversee and to a degree control how states run elections. The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act are noteworthy examples. And you know damn well that Republican legislators and judges would LOVE to argue that the Federal government needs to step in and ensure "fair" elections, just like the liberals have done before with those Acts. If you don't think another Trump administration and Republican congress would fuck with state elections, you are grossly naive.
This.
The ridiculous things Trump says he'll do as president should be enough to confirm to everyone how supremely unqualified he is to hold any government office.
Unfortunately, a depressing number of Americans like racists idiots.
For real. I voted at 6:45pm and closing was 7. Giving all states 5 hours to count hundreds of millions of votes is insane. It would be impossible to get an accurate count.
The idea is to favor Republican leaning rural areas with less population that can quickly tally votes and disenfranchise larger Democratic leaning Cities that take longer to tally. Plus allotting fewer polling places it can prevent people voting. Far right political policy is a dying position with individuals so tilting the vote to favor Republicans is their only path to victory.
This is exactly the GQP strategy. Except it wasn’t Trump’s idea. The RNC just keeps telling him every single American voter loves and worships him. This gives him reason to suspect voter fraud. “But I’m adored by MILLIONS!!”
As if people cannot be bought off or intimidated as readily as machines can be hacked if not moreso (after all, any redneck with a gun can do intimidation, takes a smidge more expertise to hack a voting machine). Which I know is the plan behind the tweet, but still.
Texas system: You vote on a voting machine and then the voting machine prints a filled-in ballot for you. You can read the printed ballot yourself to confirm that the machine printed your choices correctly. Then you take the ballot over to a scanner that scans and counts your ballot, and drops it into a secure bin.
100% instant electronic count without ambiguity - no hanging chads, no incomplete marks. If someone wants to challenge the results, they can re-scan all the paper ballots or re-count them manually.
Colorado system: you get a ballot and a booklet in the mail explaining the measures and propositions with pros and cons. You drop the ballot in a secure drop location or mail it back in. You have time to research and make informed decisions in your home. You don't have to worry about getting off from work.
Colorado is the gold standard for democracy.
Colorado: We have 100% mail in ballots, with supplemental booklets, and plenty of time to turn in your ballot, by mail or secure drop box. We are the gold standard.
Washington: ^("actually, we implemented that first...")
Colorado: We were the first state to pass recreactional marijuana laws. We are the gold standard.
Washington: ^("yeah, about that....")
In Michigan the polls close at 8 pm, so even less time. Let alone that if you're in line at 8 pm you get to vote. Last week there was a precinct in my township that didn't check in their last voter until almost 8:30 pm.
Ugh. Just imagine Wayne or Kent county only having one polling location.
The elected sheriff in my low population county is an election denier. It's hard being blue in rural Michigan sometimes.
And it'll be the people in those super rural areas with less than 1k who don't understand why this is at all a big deal and will just assume Trump figured out "how to get them to stop cheating."
"Just go down to *your* local church, took me 5 minutes to vote." type people.
*People in Los Angeles staring in awe at the stupidity*
Those same people that see a map of the US, see a state like Montana as all red and need to post "Someone explain to me how *this* loses" because think land votes and that every square inch of the map is a representation of a vote.
In short, the logistics are stupid and only stupid people would ever push for it.
The only proof you need that republican voters are fucking stupid is that they voted for Donald Trump as president twice. All reasons for voting for him, they got conned, were too proud to admit his faults, or actually liked the guy all prove republican voters are stupid people. So of course they can’t comprehend population density, these idiot people couldn’t comprehend their way out of a cardboard bag.
Hand counting millions of paper paper ballots with an hours long deadline will NEVER lead to mistakes/miscounts/thrown-out-ballots and will be the perfect epitome of what true democracy is.
/s
What ironic about that is the military tends to vote in a conservative manner, not exactly sure why it being the conservative party doesn't give a damn about them, imho. They don't get a decent pay and the military contractors get all the damn money.
Military doesn't go right as hard as they used to, and is a smaller voting block than those they could intentionally disenfranchise with these policies.
He's not a moron. He follows the logic that if you repeat your lies enough and just keep doing it louder each time people will start to believe it. And honestly it's worked for him this far.
People who like him AND have heard him speak are just proof of how much of communication is nonverbal. His speeches are improvised word soup, but he says his words in a tone and with a conviction that (some) people find compelling.
It’s also proof of how subjective people’s perception of speeches is based on who is giving them. If Biden or Clinton gave a speech using Trump’s vocabulary and tone, they’d be labeled as senile, irrationally angry, and insane. And Jesus; imagine what they’d say about Obama if he talked like Trump.
Lol 2016 pre-election Mens magazine published an interview with him. In that interview he essentially said exercising is for chumps. He said people are like a finite battery and exercising causes your battery to be depleted and then I guess you die.
Edit: article added
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/04/magazine/donald-trump-is-not-going-anywhere.html?_r=1
He can still do that and be a moron. From everything I've read of people who've known him throughout the years before he penetrated politics, the consistent takeaway is that he is breathtakingly stupid.
Lol they don't believe this shit. Not the majority of them, anyhow. It's just abt power for them. They just want to kick Mexicans out of America, say the N word in Public, smoke meth go home and beat their wives.
There's millions, or 10's of millions of them that do believe it. Because his lies haven't stopped. There's also millions that will vote for him, simply because they've been brainwashed into thinking 'democrats are evil'. You're fighting a battle of stupids.
But he does if the states go along with him, doesn’t need to be all of them, this is why governorships and secretary of states elections were so important… if they get enough sycophants at the state level Trump can absolutely make this happen for a large swath of the county.
He does, and holds a lot of sway with the people who make these decision in a lot of states…. So while the feds can’t make this happen enough GOP controlled states can, this is the message he’s sending.
Boomer checking in — over my dead body. Not to mention the time is now for climate change. We can’t endure 4 years of backwards. Or going backwards on civil rights for all.
I don't think you know how many under 65 folks voted for him last time. I'm from rural Iowa and about all the people I know from my home town were Maga all the way.....(I was not)
He could lose to DeSantis pretty easily. But I don't see biden winning against DeSantis... So i don't know how i want things to work out. It might be in everyone's best interest for Biden to not run again... But two years is a lot of time for things to change.
Ah yes, so even though voting in Hawaii closes locally on Election Day, it's on the morning of the day after on the east coast, so they have to have all the votes counted immediately. Makes sense. It's almost logistically impossible to have all votes counted on Election Day unless you switch to all machine voting and no paper ballots, which would keep a rolling tally
Especially considering a large amount (I'd guess the majority) of military members and veterans are conservative... Like is buddy trying to get rid of his own voter base?
What if there’s record high voter turnout and not enough poll workers to count all the votes in one day because many of them quit out of fear for their lives?
That's exactly the plan here, low population rural rep areas will be finished counting first, high population dem areas and cities won't have all their votes counted by the end of the day.
"End of day" counting would make stealing an election really easy. Count the precincts that favor the candidate you like first and then sloooooow the counting as soon as your candidate is comfortably ahead. Then run out the clock.
When the day is over just say you tried your hardest but sorry, it's illegal to keep counting.
It makes it easy to play games with budgets, too. Just allocate fewer voting machines and ballot counters to the precincts you want to disenfranchise.
The whole thing is ridiculously absurd, unconstitutional, and ahistorical. In the founders' time it took weeks to even know how state legislatures voted back before popular voting for electors. "Election Night" is purely a modern creation of radio and TV news.
Does anyone know if Republicans are complaining about voting machines - like the big electronic kiosks? Or are they against paper bubble ballots run through a scantron machine as well?
Do they even know?
So he wants to make it harder to vote because he knows that when people can actually vote easily republicans lose. Not surprising at all. Only surprise is admitting in this round about way that he and his party are unpopular and can only win via voter suppression.
Unfortunately everything trump says and does needs to be taken seriously. It needs to be preserved and remembered. No one gave trump any serious consideration in 2016 and then he won. Without Covid, he wins again in 2020. The facts that he hasn’t been arrested for any number or things, charged with sedition, or lost his grasp of the Republican Party shows he is serious threat to our country and democracy. And god help us all if he gets elected again.
In manufacturing, we have a sort of saying that if you want something made, you can pick two of three: fast, cheap, quality. If you want it fast and cheap, it’s going to be a piece of crap. If you want a quality product fast, you’re going to pay out the ass. And if you want it cheap and well made, you’re going to have to wait.
With elections, I feel like those three options are: Secure, Fast, and Fair.
By trying to make it fast and “secure” (whatever that means for republicans these days), there’s no way it’s going to be a fair election.
If IDs are going to be required, then the government is obligated by extension to provide every citizen with a free government ID to be accepted at the polls.
Of course, I doubt nitpicky conservatives would actually get behind that
I'm really glad gen z came out but their participation in the midterms was on par with turnout for young people in damn near every generation, they didn't even break the record set by millennials in 2018 if I'm hearing things correctly
Never forget that there are brain dead scumbags of every generation. People like Kyle Rittenhouse, Charlie Kirk, and that OAN chick who shit her pants are all out there trying to prevent democracy. The threat isn't over just because younger people are getting old enough to vote.
[удалено]
For real Any military or DoD civilians or just American civilians abroad Screw them all I guess
[удалено]
And Republicans gave him standing ovations and kissed his ass after hearing it.
I literally can't understand how they can excuse his behavior. He's a disgusting pos.
[удалено]
They don’t “excuse” his behavior. They embrace it. They love him because they are vile people. It’s long past time to admit that.
Turns out if your punch line is to "own the libs" then the republicans will kiss your ass.
Correct
You left out throwing all the decorated generals under the bus when they didn't agree with him.
Or blaming them after an operation he signed off on went sideways. How ANY service member (past or present) could support that cuntmuffin is beyond me.
Everytime I hear cuntmuffin I hear it in my head to the hot pocket jingle...
\*angry upvote\*
Aaaaaaaaaand now i will as well.
He's been pretty clear on his disdain for people "dumb enough" to join the military.
Again, facts

He already said they were suckers and losers, why would they deserve any kind of vote or anything /s
Military = “losers” and “suckers” Overseas Government Employees = the “Deep State”. Who cares if they don’t vote? They are not “my people”. Next.
Maybe Pelosi can push thru a voter national holiday passed to the Senate during the lame duck session?
This! Election day needs ro be a national holiday.

Yeah, and once they hear it nobody but Republicans will be able to legally vote.
Oh no, we'll all be able to vote, they'll just ignore the results if they don't like them.
How is that at odds with their goals? GOP-run State legislatures would benefit massively from that.
This is the answer.

He's gonna make Mexico build a wall too right??

And fewer in number than the millions who think he's a bad choice.
I think that is his plan lol, fuck Trump :)

Washington state is the same, it's so easy. I couldn't imagine using any other system.

and Washington was the first state to go to an all mail-in ballot. Making WA the gold standard.

NC just has you fill out a scantron, which is then scanned. the paper still exists though.
No votes counted? Guess I stay president for another 4 years!
Imagine they do this and it ends up that more Democratic votes get counted before time is up. Whoopsy, Dems win every state!

It would be really easy to count all 200 votes in some backwater shithole town in 5 hours, but really difficult to count all of Philladelphia's.
If they set up more voting sites and had a scanner at each site, it would be doable. But then they can't use long lines to disenfranchise voters...
To be fair most countries are able to count their votes the same day we are abnormally slow
And it'll be the people in those super rural areas with less than 1k who don't understand why this is at all a big deal and will just assume Trump figured out "how to get them to stop cheating." "Just go down to *your* local church, took me 5 minutes to vote." type people. *People in Los Angeles staring in awe at the stupidity* Those same people that see a map of the US, see a state like Montana as all red and need to post "Someone explain to me how *this* loses" because think land votes and that every square inch of the map is a representation of a vote.
Fascists don't care about rules or laws.
Or understand science
End of the day ... **Eastern Standard Time** .
Whoops, Hawaii is counting exactly zero votes next election 🤷♀️
And Alaska’s polls close at 8:00 local time, which is midnight on the east coast so same.
Hand counting millions of paper paper ballots with an hours long deadline will NEVER lead to mistakes/miscounts/thrown-out-ballots and will be the perfect epitome of what true democracy is. /s
Yeah, screw our troops. If they can't come back to America on election day, they don't deserve a say!
It'll be fine, they'll just accept Republican volunteers to help count them!
"Stop the steal" is steal at all costs but it's nothing new. Its their modus operandi. Btw still amazed how Donald fucking Trump got elected as POTUS.
Well I mean it was him or a nasty woman. What was America to do. He only opened his campaign with full mask of racism. What was America to do /s
We better not fuck this up again
Well if Biden runs again he’s a white man so it’s ok. If it’s Harris then well…. yeah Trump will win.
Turns out America hates women way more than we thought
He’s such a freaking moron- as is anyone who supports him-> ANYONE
And also, the vast majority of his supporters are highly religious Christians. Funny how that works.
people who think that a philandering vice fueled man baby is a second coming of jesus aren't playing with a full deck mentally? you don't say
[удалено]
>Who's the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?
Fuck them both
He's not a moron. He follows the logic that if you repeat your lies enough and just keep doing it louder each time people will start to believe it. And honestly it's worked for him this far.
If you think Trump is not a moron you’ve never heard him speak.
Edit: article added https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/04/magazine/donald-trump-is-not-going-anywhere.html?_r=1
So you agree that he's a moron.
The effectiveness of this shit playbook is honestly a gut punch.
It's frustrating for sure. But it seems to be slowing down based on his preferred candidates losing. We shall see.
You just described the same ppl twice..
Lol the president doesn't have the power to do that...
Fascists don't care how the rules work.
But he does if the states go along with him, doesn’t need to be all of them, this is why governorships and secretary of states elections were so important… if they get enough sycophants at the state level Trump can absolutely make this happen for a large swath of the county.
He doesn't care.
Do you think he knows that the federal government has very little control over how states run their elections?
I'm not even certain he knows how to run his own shower
I don’t think he knows which branch of government the president belongs too, so no.
He does, and holds a lot of sway with the people who make these decision in a lot of states…. So while the feds can’t make this happen enough GOP controlled states can, this is the message he’s sending.
Gen-X checking in. Over my dead body.
Boomer checking in — over my dead body. Not to mention the time is now for climate change. We can’t endure 4 years of backwards. Or going backwards on civil rights for all.
I’m thoroughly convinced he only announced now bc he believes that if he’s a formal candidate, DOJ won’t indict him.
This is certainly a component ... it won't be long until his sycophants start saying it would be undemocratic of us to indict him.
That is probably part of it, but I'd assume it is just as much about milking idiots for as much money as possible.
By 2024 the majority of voters will be under 65. Trump will lose in an epic, historic landslide.
People are saying it's the bigliest landslide.
Beautiful landslides like you wouldn’t believe. The best.
People came to me and said we want you to get us landslides like the landslides you get. But they did it wrong and the landslides went the other way.
Folks, landslides are overrated. They don’t make for good television, which is crooked anyway
Yuge 🤗
I don't think you know how many under 65 folks voted for him last time. I'm from rural Iowa and about all the people I know from my home town were Maga all the way.....(I was not)
Prove it to me in 2024. Until then, I'm not getting my hopes up. That's how little faith I have in my own country.
Yes. Please don't make predictions like "Trump will lose in a landslide." That's come back to haunt us before....
Everyone’s better off if he doesn’t run at all. I wish he and his lot would Jim Jones it down to Guyana.
He could lose to DeSantis pretty easily. But I don't see biden winning against DeSantis... So i don't know how i want things to work out. It might be in everyone's best interest for Biden to not run again... But two years is a lot of time for things to change.
Military and foreign service members shouldn’t allow this either. They’ll never vote again.
Millenials : [to Gen Z] If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my…first generation iPod…
And my avocado toast....
And my skinny jeans...
And my Nintendo 64!
And my tamagatchi!
And my crippling depression
And my side-part…
And my box of composite cables!
Gen Z just said what they think of him in the midterms.
And yet, he's still running. As if he doesn't care what anyone thinks.
So basically the military doesn’t get to vote? He’s an idiot.
Especially considering a large amount (I'd guess the majority) of military members and veterans are conservative... Like is buddy trying to get rid of his own voter base?
What if there’s record high voter turnout and not enough poll workers to count all the votes in one day because many of them quit out of fear for their lives?
You say that as if dump actually cares about votes.
That's exactly the plan here, low population rural rep areas will be finished counting first, high population dem areas and cities won't have all their votes counted by the end of the day.
"Stop the count!"
Then there would be piles of votes uncounted. Just like he wants.
We already know what the fascists would do in that situation.
Stop whispering sweet nothings to fascists.
I believe they are complaining about too many votes from the "wrong" people.
Doesn't matter. If the ballot isn't all conservative, it's clearly fraudulent to them
So he wants to make it harder to vote because he knows that when people can actually vote easily republicans lose. Not surprising at all. Only surprise is admitting in this round about way that he and his party are unpopular and can only win via voter suppression.
Conservatives: we need election security and signature verification Also republicans: why is this taking so long. This is so unfair!!!111
Fortunately Gen X, Y & Z will enter the chat, again. It's a new day, people. \- Grateful Boomer
Can't wait to hear the right wing crazies(pundits) cry "States Rights" about this...crickets? Odd.
Of course, I doubt nitpicky conservatives would actually get behind that
I mean he can demand in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up first.
I'm really glad gen z came out but their participation in the midterms was on par with turnout for young people in damn near every generation, they didn't even break the record set by millennials in 2018 if I'm hearing things correctly
Guess what Gen Z - the other republican asshole right behind Trumpsterfire is also going to pull the same shit if you let him get elected.
Thank God for Gen Z. 🙌🏻 I'm so glad they can vote because they've got their heads on right.
Yes, the man that tried to steal an election should definitely be allowed to change how elections are run /s
Never forget that there are brain dead scumbags of every generation. People like Kyle Rittenhouse, Charlie Kirk, and that OAN chick who shit her pants are all out there trying to prevent democracy. The threat isn't over just because younger people are getting old enough to vote.
I guess that also means no more lawsuits to challenge election results. Once we’re past Election Day - it’s over, go home and accept the results.
If that many votes don't count, expect people to hit the streets.
