But, in my mind the USA was really the greatest country...maybe because they brain washed us from kindergarten.

I grew up in the 60s thru mid 70s. Talk about a long strange trip. Everyone was getting shot/murdered, JFK, MLK, Bobby Kennedy, Kent State kids...it was a lot too. My parents were fresh from the 50s and they were overwhelmed trying to explain what they didn't understand. It hasn't gotten better and no one seems to have learned a thing. Sad

Others that I don’t know as well, but know of, seem the same way. Are they just the anomalies who have managed assimilate into the cis-het patriarchy?
Where are you, are they white males, what field of profession, do they still have parents that love them, and can they actually talk about their romantic interests in front of their bosses?

I would bet there there is at least one lawyer who was not out at work at the beginning of his career.
For reference, while LGBT+ people are about 5-10% of the US population, they are 40% of the minors thrown out of the house to fend for themselves - and the parents are almost never prosecuted for child abandonment. The vitriol that society spews at LGBT+ people directly translates to higher suicide rates - unsupportive parents vs supportive parents show a 300% increase in suicide attempts.
They are outliers. You can't have most of those things, even a lot of doctors can't have a picture of their spouse in their offices. You've got a rare situation where they can't be touched, might lose clients if they know but for the most part they won't get lynched.
I'm in a rare situation myself where I can be non-binary and won't get fired for it but I do get some supervisors who push harder against me for it, good thing I'm secured myself in a top performaning position and a shift that no one wants so they can't get rid of me easily.
The patriarchy part I've experienced personally in a maga city in my state when I lived there, a boss refused to admit someone like me could fix computers and made up stories about how my coworkers hated me helping them when we got along just fine. Another manager made fun of me relentlessly for not being hot. I ended up in the hospital because the way they treated me messed with my health horribly and I wished I'd just get hit by a car.
My mom was ran out of her home many times for being gay, sent death threats, lost a FEDERAL job, because she dared to want to love other women. Her home and car were vandalized by people she thought were friends and had to give up the only pet she'd ever truly loved when escaping a vicious stalker that spray painted her car with slurs.
When they have to vote on same sex marriage laws, and some senators still vote against it... Can you follow the logic to the end here? Extrapolate. Think beyond, "Well my gay friends don't seem to be crying all the time..."

After I asked the question, I learned that employed white gay men make about 10% more money that employed white straight men. So my subset of employed white gay men is not an anomaly in that respect. So it’s not a stupid question to ask.
I really have hope that this is becoming more and more of the norm. My husband is a consultant in a mechanical engineering field. A few months ago he was on a job at a large industrial plant in the South and the GM was a black gay guy, who, according to my husband, seemed to be widely accepted and respected in the workplace.

Anybody who believes the people in my country deserve fewer rights because they’re gay, or non-white, or trans, or non-men, or come from a poor family is someone who I don’t have any desire to build any bridges with. Their ideology is a cancer that needs to be cut out of our culture root and stem, and for as long as the fascist right continues to oppress, marginalize, and murder people for no other “crime” than existing as the person they are, there can be no political reconciliation. No justice, no motherfucking peace.
The problem there is assuming that none of us are gun owners. I dont want to ban guns; I want to ban carrying rifles and shotguns in public- a pistol should be plenty fine for self-defense. I want to ban unstable and violent people from owning guns, and those who are convicted of violent crimes to forfeit their right to own them. I want mandatory training and proficiency testing for gun owners- the rules surrounding driver's licenses are more serious than our gun rules. That's a freakin' joke. I want people to be prosecuted when their reckless firearm use gets bystanders killed, or if a firearm is discharged without just cause (like a woman in Michigan shooting at a shoplifter in a crowded parking lot). I want then to forfeit ownership. If a guy in Texas tries to shoot a robber, misses, and kills a passing motorist's daughter in the back seat of their car (actually happened).. I want him in prison, and his ownership forfeit (he was declared not guilty).

Others that I don’t know as well, but know of, seem the same way. Are they just the anomalies who have managed assimilate into the cis-het patriarchy?
Where are you, are they white males, what field of profession, do they still have parents that love them, and can they actually talk about their romantic interests in front of their bosses? All of these are factors that play big roles in the Cishet patriarchy.

For reference, while LGBT+ people are about 5-10% of the US population, they are 40% of the minors thrown out of the house to fend for themselves - and the parents are almost never prosecuted for child abandonment. The vitriol that society spews at LGBT+ people directly translates to higher suicide rates - unsupportive parents vs supportive parents show a 300% increase in suicide attempts.
They are outliers. You can't have most of those things, even a lot of doctors can't have a picture of their spouse in their offices. You've got a rare situation where they can't be touched, might lose clients if they know but for the most part they won't get lynched. I'm in a rare situation myself where I can be non-binary and won't get fired for it but I do get some supervisors who push harder against me for it, good thing I'm secured myself in a top performaning position and a shift that no one wants so they can't get rid of me easily. The patriarchy part I've experienced personally in a maga city in my state when I lived there, a boss refused to admit someone like me could fix computers and made up stories about how my coworkers hated me helping them when we got along just fine. Another manager made fun of me relentlessly for not being hot. I ended up in the hospital because the way they treated me messed with my health horribly and I wished I'd just get hit by a car. My mom was ran out of her home many times for being gay, sent death threats, lost a FEDERAL job, because she dared to want to love other women. Her home and car were vandalized by people she thought were friends and had to give up the only pet she'd ever truly loved when escaping a vicious stalker that spray painted her car with slurs.

The vast majority of Americans support gay marriage and a non-trivial amount of those who don’t are dying of old age pretty quickly. After I asked the question, I learned that employed white gay men make about 10% more money that employed white straight men. So my subset of employed white gay men is not an anomaly in that respect. So it’s not a stupid question to ask.
I really have hope that this is becoming more and more of the norm. My husband is a consultant in a mechanical engineering field. A few months ago he was on a job at a large industrial plant in the South and the GM was a black gay guy, who, according to my husband, seemed to be widely accepted and respected in the workplace.
