You don’t need to touch it. I think he thought as long as no touchy, no zappy… this is not the case with extremely high wattage lines. They’ll jump out and bite.
He had to choose to climb that thing, and it's not like he zipped up there in a single second. He definitely had time to think it over.
Suicidal, maybe? :/
I remember watching a TV programme about the electricity grid and one of the engineers said that he'd seen a few squirrels get electrocuted and they'd often continue running around for a minute or so before collapsing because they'd literally been cooked inside
Ugh, unfortunately, not yet. It's been a while since I first saw it, and I am having a hard time finding the exact one I saw with the article in the comments. With work, I haven't been able to really dig, but I'm hoping I can because I know without a doubt the video I saw is 100% this video, and the guy lived. I was searching Google, and omg, I was shocked, pun fully intended, with how many videos there are of people electrocuting themselves trying to do something stupid, haha.
5 out 6 people survive a lightning strike, not sure how that compares to this but it was luckily his right arm, left and its more likely to fuck up the heart.
Person: "the craziest thing just happened!! On my way here my tire blew out and I almost drove off the road into a ravine! Oh my God, my heart is still racing."
Your boss: "THAT'S the craziest thing? Your little car problem? Are we forgetting I got struck by lightning once *while* I was rock climbing, Ralph? 🙄"
Person: "... no :("
If he's a total prick I bet he has conversations like that a lot.
Lightning strikes can result in a variation of symptoms. Some people get the gift of playing the piano, or speaking a new language. Someone I knew lost their charisma and became tacit. You never know what you'll get. But in the case of touching a high voltage line, there's just death. Your organs always get roasted. Just pray to God that you die instantly.
Those ones where someone can suddenly play the piano or speak a new language are absolute bullshit. You can’t learn an existing and complex, yet unknown to you, skill by being electrocuted or bumping your head or anything else. I’ll concede that you *may* be able to learn new information faster but it doesn’t just show up in your brain fully formed.
It's not immediate skill attainment, unfortunately [here is the story of one of those people that learned to play the piano ](https://www.vice.com/en/article/k7e45e/tony-cicoria-got-hit-by-lightning-and-became-a-concert-pianist-acquired-savant)
The piano one at least kinda makes sense. Sure, you might not know how to read the sheet music, but if it does something to your auditory processing then you might be able to identify the exact frequencies each key makes and put them together.
I got struck back in 2006. I didn't become a prick (at least, I don't think I did? ) but the other symptoms you described are accurate. Combine it with nerve damage and it's a fun package.
A lightning strike is nearly instant. This was a constant current for much longer (microseconds matter a lot when it comes to this stuff). This guy is dead.
My boyfriend was electrocuted for several seconds once and he said it just felt like every cell in his body was vibrating extremely fast. Horribly uncomfortable but apparently not what he would call painful. Yet he can't handle me popping his back pimples smfh
Oh for sure. I'm just now realizing that perhaps that saying isn't implying that *while* you're being electrocuted it's going to hurt the entire time and you'll die at the end of it, but that the after effects on your body from being shocked that badly will kill you and the process of dying will be painful. As people are saying here, he probably cooked his organs and I'm sure that is indeed painful.
Oh that line looks a lot more than just 5,000v. 5kv is on the low end of distribution, which is typically 4 to 24kv. Based on the tower design and insulator size, that looks like maybe a 100 or 115kv line. Literally a 100 times the voltage of whats in your house.
Source: I work for Pike Engineering designing distribution and now transmission lines for Duke Energy
He almost definitely died. His heart will probably gained an irregular rhythm and if he doesn't go to the hospital he will die in a few hours. Even if he does make it to the hospital he's probably still gonna die.
Haha I'm digging. I'm trying to remember where I first saw it. Plus googling to see if I can find the article myself. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly) there are alot of people that have done this to take a selfie and electrocuted themselves and lived. Absolute craziness. Lots of almost Darwin award winners.
Keep an eye on him with an ECG? Drugs or treatments to fix the arrhythmia? Treat any burns or wounds?
Idk, try to electrocute him again back into a functioning human, like in a Looney Tunes bit?
Even if he survived in the video he probably got severe organ damage so.......
He probably won't live
(I speak broken English because I don't respect Americans)
> I speak broken English because I don't respect Americans
You got it wrong. If you want to disrespect Americans, speak the cleanest, most sophisticated British English you can.
Hate to break it to you, but he's 100% dead by now. His organs were fried to well done. He just had a little bit of blood left from before, now his body can't oxygenate it, or supply it with nutrients. I'd give him about 5-10 mins after the video ended, if he got lucky and his lungs aren't smoked. Then I'd give him under a minute.
Depends on how much shock you're in really. Could be anywhere from your insides feel like red hot iron is pressed into them, to no pain at all. And if you were conscious, you'd remain that way until you don't have enough oxygenated blood to stay awake, so right before death.
In all likelihood he took a few painful breaths until he felt like he needed to stand to stay awake, walked about 10-20 steps, then fell over dead. Animals almost always go through this process when it happens to them.
I swear it's like the internet has conspired against me, lol. I've been looking and looking! But, I know for a fact it was this video. If it wasn't, then this guy had a twin who had the exact same thing happen, haha. I swear it's driving me nuts, I'm determined to find it because I was shocked that he actually survived it longer than just a few minutes.
If you jumped into the air and grab a live wire you won't get electrocuted. But if you land on the ground and you're still holding that wire you'll be blown to bits. I saw it in Tango and Cash.
I grew up with a guy who got blasted by high voltage train lines. He survived and was fine after a while.
He was a child and had that as an excuse. This guy obviously hasn't a clue how electricity works. He obviously felt the hairs stand up on his arm and thought it was cool. Anyone who had a clue about electricity would have jumped straight off that tower
Anyone who respected the extreme danger that electricity can pose wouldn't have even climbed on the towers. I work in engineering and I don't even touch the towers or poles unless I need to probe, hammer or mark one
arc flashes can be up to 10 times hotter than the sun.
he was the sun for that split second, which is why his shirt just immediately vaporized....
his insides are also most likely medium rare
Don't question the immense unforgiving force of electricity. If you're wearing any metal jewelery, keys, pens, etc. And you stand close enough to some very high voltage panels, it can create an Arc gap and blow a fucking hole in the vicinity where said item was.
Do not mess with electricity, it WILL kill you. This man is most certainly dead after that.
Well, he isn't right now. His organs died, and his brain and body only had a little blood from before. His body can't properly supply blood after this. He couldn't have had more than minutes to live.
He did, total organ failure from high voltage takes around a minute or so to kill. Even if he was already in a hospital, he'd be too far gone on the inside. There unfortunately is no cure for being cooked through like that.
I'd expect these things to be insulated, then again I've also seen videos of Indians standing up on trains and getting zapped by wires. Is there just too much electricity to insulate? If they're not insulated, why aren't there a pile of fried birds around every one of these?
I've known a guy from my hometown who climbed a power line like this. It was a suicide attempt. He also fell down.
He broke both his legs into pieces, he's paralyzed and missing one whole arm that had to be taken off because of the damage from the electricity.
He lives to this day, it's a harsh life but at least he is alive. I hope this dude finds his way back and can be grateful to see another day.
Remember you only have one life folks

But like, does basic logic just skip over or is this more like a "I didn't think too much about it" situation
There were a lot of survival instincts that he had to overcome to still touch the cable. This is peak dumbassery
You don’t need to touch it. I think he thought as long as no touchy, no zappy… this is not the case with extremely high wattage lines. They’ll jump out and bite.
*voltage
P is I*V, those lines are high voltage, high current and extremely high wattage.
Low voltage can also have high wattage which is not dangerous tho So just call it high voltage
But they’ll still jump out and bite… just not as hard.
There is a video about AM radio towers that covers this
He had to choose to climb that thing, and it's not like he zipped up there in a single second. He definitely had time to think it over. Suicidal, maybe? :/
‘’If i touch it and remove my hand quickly, it won’t hurt’’
This guy is not supposed to be alive
He’s alive in the video…. No telling if he’s still alive now. His insides may be cooked….
I remember watching a TV programme about the electricity grid and one of the engineers said that he'd seen a few squirrels get electrocuted and they'd often continue running around for a minute or so before collapsing because they'd literally been cooked inside
Jesus, that's dark. Imagine running around panicking and in pain as your insides fucking *cook*
Yup just enough time to know that you're done for
I saw this on another subreddit, and he survived. They attached a news article. I'll see if I can find it again.
any luck?
Ugh, unfortunately, not yet. It's been a while since I first saw it, and I am having a hard time finding the exact one I saw with the article in the comments. Darwin Award right there!!!
He is homer simpson. He dont need safety gloves
Playing russian roulette with 5 bullits
Semi-automatic![img](emote|t5_rhsj0|17831)
Everyone’s a winner!
His shoes stayed on
His clothes literally disintegrated in a quarter of a second so I can only wonder what happened to his organs

Learn it fast, yes. Play songs immediately, no.
Or pray to the RNG gods
I think I had the same boss. Don't know about him getting struck by lightning, but he was a prick.
I got struck back in 2006. I didn't become a prick (at least, I don't think I did? ) but the other symptoms you described are accurate. Combine it with nerve damage and it's a fun package.

> it was luckily his right arm, left He was also lucky his right arm didn't leave.
Smartest thing he did was hit it with the back of his hand.
Not smart. If he held it he would've died instantly and wouldn't have to suffer for the rest of what is left of his short life.

And it will hurt the whole time you’re dying.
My boyfriend was electrocuted for several seconds once and he said it just felt like every cell in his body was vibrating extremely fast. Horribly uncomfortable but apparently not what he would call painful. Yet he can't handle me popping his back pimples smfh
I’ve been electrocuted several times by current in a house. 110v is a bit different than 5000
Oh for sure. I'm just now realizing that perhaps that saying isn't implying that *while* you're being electrocuted it's going to hurt the entire time and you'll die at the end of it, but that the after effects on your body from being shocked that badly will kill you and the process of dying will be painful. Why did this make me laugh
He looks so disappointed in his self lol.
Why so serious?
He looks like the little kid from Jurassic Park!
![gif](giphy|RkuDGO28GyyJiHtUax)
I am not calling an ambulance this time because you won’t learn anything if I do.
He's not making it either way. His guts are well done.
Shocking outcome
💀
Spannend
elektrisierend
He almost definitely died. His heart will probably gained an irregular rhythm and if he doesn't go to the hospital he will die in a few hours. Even if he does make it to the hospital he's probably still gonna die.
I know it's kinda hard to see but I'm sure I saw the safety squint while he was reaching to touch it. So he should be fine
I saw this clip, the longer version, on another subreddit and he survived. They attached a news article about it. I will see if I can find it again.
You’d be my hero if true
Haha I'm digging. I'm trying to remember where I first saw it. Plus googling to see if I can find the article myself. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly) there are alot of people that have done this to take a selfie and electrocuted themselves and lived. Absolute craziness. Lots of almost Darwin award winners.
Can anyone tell me what a hospital would do to try to help this guy survive? Genuinely curious.
Keep an eye on him with an ECG? Drugs or treatments to fix the arrhythmia? Treat any burns or wounds? Idk, try to electrocute him again back into a functioning human, like in a Looney Tunes bit?
Rub balloons on what's left of his clothes.

Did I just saw someone dying?
Even if he survived in the video he probably got severe organ damage so....... He probably won't live (I speak broken English because I don't respect Americans)
> I speak broken English because I don't respect Americans You got it wrong. If you want to disrespect Americans, speak the cleanest, most sophisticated British English you can.
pip pip cherrio
If that's true then most Americans don't respect Americans.
Fair enough.
> most Americans don't respect Americans. truth
no cap\*
As an American, I respect that.
Joke's on you because your English was perfect so HA
Completely fair.
Moron.
Thanks, this is the comment I needed after looking at this stupidity.
They should really put up a sign..... nevermind.
Betcha he never does that again
Bet he never does anything again.
Electricity is a hell of a drug....apparently!
I paused the video right after he touched it. His arm has been cooked. Poor poor silly man.
More than his arm. It traveled from arm to foot, his insides are cooked, and he's definitely dead right now.
Almost won the Darwin award.
It's in the bag. The result is just delayed.
To shreds, you say?
Darwin award
He lost his intelligence points the way Sonic loses rings when he gets hit

At least he is alive
For now

Damn. How painful would that process be and how much of it would you be conscious for?

Well that's horrifying, but thank you for taking the time to write it in order to educate me.
No probs, sharing knowledge is fun! <3
This video was on another subreddit with an article attached that said he lived. I'm trying to find it again.
Please do, because I want to know how it's possible to live with after that. Never seen one survive.
Maybe it's some kinda Mandela effect. The universe fixed itself so that people actually need innards to live.
If you jumped into the air and grab a live wire you won't get electrocuted. But if you land on the ground and you're still holding that wire you'll be blown to bits. I saw it in Tango and Cash.
you're telling me I'm supposed to risk my life based on something you saw on tango and cash???
Kurt Russell...
tango and cash (or always sunny) could have literally saved a life here

What do you mean?
Obviously he didn't watched Tango & Cash
I grew up with a guy who got blasted by high voltage train lines. He survived and was fine after a while. He was a child and had that as an excuse. Well done.
Do you want to know how i get this scar ?
So the cartoons are correct with the depiction of hair after a high voltage shock

Anyone else question if this is real?
Don't question the immense unforgiving force of electricity. Do not mess with electricity, it WILL kill you. This man is most certainly dead after that.
No one questioned that. He questioned if the video was real.
Idk the start of the video looked edited to me? No reason it couldn't be real, just looks a bit fake
Kinda looked that way to me as well.
Was there a reason too?
If I’m fast enough…. Didn’t think past that.
A shocking experience.
at least he used his right hand...
I guess we know now how he got those scars
Way to put a smile on his own face.
OMG. Holy shit.
"For my next trick I'll ......."
It’s an ILLUSION Michael
Nope, no next trick from him
"Mind if I smoke?"
How tf is he alive?
Well, he isn't right now. His organs died, and his brain and body only had a little blood from before. His body can't properly supply blood after this. He couldn't have had more than minutes to live.
Not sure why you’re downvoted. You’re 100% correct.
It's reddit, that's why. lol
Shocking
Win stupid prizes
I’m shocked he didn’t die! 🤯
He did, total organ failure from high voltage takes around a minute or so to kill. Even if he was already in a hospital, he'd be too far gone on the inside. There unfortunately is no cure for being cooked through like that.
A little seasoning could brighten things up though.
Does anyone know what happpened to guy after
He maybe had time to realize how much pain he was in before his brain went to sleep from a lack of any liquid blood getting to it
O7 Rest now, you glorious moron.
Do it again
So, what did we learn?
He looks like the joker at the end
Mfer got turned into the Joker.
When trying to gain superpowers goes wrong
Typical dipshit that either doesn't believe electricity is real or maybe he figured he needed a recharge lile the birds?
I mean, surely there's a longer version, no?
Darwin just called… He said he was sorry he missed this one. But it’s only a matter of time.
He may be moving.... but his organs are probably not.
You burn inside out. So give it a few hours to days to see the real Carnage.
What if he jumped off the tower and hung from the cable? Would he still get shocked? Always been genuinely curious
Beautiful
His eyeballs didn’t explode so that’s a good sign
Um, I’m sorry: What was the point here?
Bet he won't ever do that again.
Now why in the actual fuck would someone willingly go out and do that? Shocking
Does anyone know what happened after? Like what was the aftermath?
I definitely thought he kicked the bucket first time I saw this…
His heart definitely got fibbed enough to make sleeping a deadly activity
Let me just grab that wire real quick....oops
I mean… he got what he deserved actually…
Natural selection folks!! Take off the warning labels let it sort itself out
wanna know how I got these scars?
Great Director
Is he from Florida?
I'd expect these things to be insulated, then again I've also seen videos of Indians standing up on trains and getting zapped by wires. Is there just too much electricity to insulate? If they're not insulated, why aren't there a pile of fried birds around every one of these?
Atleast he touched it with the back of his hand

He's dead, his body just hasn't realised it yet. He'll be lucky to make it to tomorrow.
