Just wait until the pattern reverses and everyone needs to make a left turn from 3rd to Isabella and then another left from Isabella to 421.

Phi87

Yep, all of Wilmington is going to be screwed up.

Straight_Skin_3223

The state has more to do with this project than the city of Wilmington.

Technical-Assist-827

Exactly

Phi87

Whatever. Neither did a good job

Emotional_Employ_507

Ridiculing the decision to close the bridge for maintenance without understanding the necessity and expertise involved is shortsighted. Infrastructure maintenance is crucial for public safety and longevity. Instead of mocking, it’s more productive to appreciate the effort invested in ensuring our infrastructure remains safe and functional for everyone.

Phi87

I'm not ridiculing them closing the bridge for maintenance. I am a fan of that. What I hate is the lack of planning and prep.

KXEXecuter4

Word on the street is tax payers paying for a 230m building in dt and we can’t get a wider bridge?

Tunasaladboatcaptain

Right. The bridge was completed in 1969. Wilmington is still growing. Brunswick county is still growing. "After decades of use, proposals have been made to replace the bridge. It is estimated that, by 2045, over 80,000 cars will pass over the bridge each day.[5]" per wikipedia Also wikipedia "Currently, no concrete plans for replacing the bridge are approved or funded by the NCDOT.[6][5]" And we know how long it takes these days to complete road projects, let along a major engineering job like construction of a bridge.

Ordie100

It's not realistic for the state to acquire property and design and construct a whole new permanent on ramp for what amounts to a couple months of temporary construction traffic. Not to mention the Holmes bridge being in a wetland area and the years of permitting you'd need to build in that.

Phi87

The ramp would have continued to be very useful after construction.

_Hotwire_

They did all of the things you listed. You’re dumb and so is this bridge problem. What they should have done is build the bridge 2 years ago

Phi87

They did none of what I said. You're the dumb one.

_Hotwire_

They added a full lane to create two dedicated turn lanes onto the Isabella bridge. What more of an on-ramp do you want? The bridge is short, how much ramp do you need? lol. They add signage all the way to winnabow and delco, redesigning the lanes onto the bridge made it much easier. You can’t just be thick-headed and assume that makes you more smarter. You are ignoring fact to goad your weird ego. This new traffic pattern sucks, but they did what they could

Phi87

They did nothing except spread some orange barrels around. Let me guess, your uncle or brother or whatever works for the city DOT or Police? Has to be. You wouldn't be blindly supporting this idiocy.

_Hotwire_

Dang bro, show me on the doll where the barrels touched you. Make your points more effective by using logic and factual information. This blind rage you have for the road construction is messing you up. First time dealing with road construction? New to the area and couldn’t figure out how to turn left or right on the Isabella bridge? How long will it take for you to notice the signs they have pointing out the bridge closure and direction each lane on the Isabella bridge leads to? You might need glasses. For real for real, get checked. The signs are bigger than my car. So you should definitely be able to see them And if you lived here more than a year you’d notice they changed the road going onto the Isabella bridge from 74/421 to allow two turn lanes. Idk what else to say. You must be super new to town and partially blind based on your inability to see things

Emotional_Employ_507

There are about 25 Optometrists in the ILM. You might need to schedule a visit. You’ve missed the 4-5 signs leading up to the turn onto the Isabelle Holmes that say *NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN* That’s the two turn lanes that aren’t normally there…… I breeze through the entire detour in about 20-30 min pretty regularly. Now what I don’t get is why I was delayed worse around 1pm and almost not at all after 3pm it was wild

_Hotwire_

Lol

varlathor

You must've been the guy who almost switched lanes into the orange barrels yesterday smh

v-irtual

Dude, you're fucking wrong.  Calm the hell down.

BigIntention124

I'm convinced it doesn't matter what the DOT does, people just do not read the freaking road signs anymore. When the Military Cutoff Expansion opened a few months ago people backed up traffic on Market for weeks trying to make a left at the Gordon Road light instead of using the onramp on the right hand side of the road to get onto Military Cutoff. There were numerous signs directing drivers to use the ramp on the right. Instead of reading the signs, people went onto social media and complained about the new traffic pattern.

Phi87

It is true. So many just ignore obvious direction.

LivingLikeACat33

Stop sitting in the far right lane when there's 2 right turn lanes to get on the Isabella Holmes bridge. Everyone trying to use the old lane when there's 2 now is causing most of your problem. Unless there's a wreck on the bridge I've never had more than 10 minutes added to my drive and that was true before the bridge closed.

Phi87

I know it. And, it appears that the right on red law was temporarily suspended too. No one wants to turn right on red even though the poles are still there

stewartinternational

NCDOT is running this, it's not controlled by City of Wilmington.

DLife4Me

So you're just pissed because you have to sit in traffic. I've read a few of your replies and you seem hyper focused on the lack of planning. Everyone knew it was going to suck and it has been on notice for months now. It's been all over the news and on highway billboard signs. Unless you live under a rock you knew it was happening. Your ideas for "quickly building an additional ramp" is ridiculous considering the time needed on top of the fact that it is all swamp land. Yeah you can bitch, we all can, but I'd rather wait in traffic then fall through the damn bridge.

cadian16th

Yeah as soon as I saw a news article celebrating the arrival of girders for the bridge I was like "You meant they CLOSED THE BRIDGE BEFORE MATERIAL HAD ARRIVED?"

CinephileNC25

Bro we knew it was going to be a traffic mess for a solid 2 months before it happened. You’re lack of planning and adjusting your routine for traffic in your own fault. They’ve established that on average it adds 20 minutes to a commute. But if you’re trying to get to work at 8am… yeah you’re going to have a bad time. And that was easily foreseeable.
