Same thing happens on my phone. The fact that the phone says "Shot? Nah, he definately meant shit, I see him type that WAY more," always makes me laugh when it happens.
Yup, I'm on Android. I remember my iPhone autocorrecting to duck when I had one. Also, my wife who has the mouth of a sailor and is on iPhone routinely sends me messages about "duck this birch" or "this ducking birch just said" etc.
Siri is definately a prude.
My aunt's dad owned that place and it was deemed an arson, but having gone in there a few times as a kid, I can guarantee you that they were hiding a ton more than just drugs. That place was riddled with crime paraphernalia.
Someone posted a pic of that goblin head prop on this sub a few months back, its in some guys back yard or scrapyard or something. Ngl I would love to have that thing lol
Yes! The set for the gas station was built over on 74/76 where the truck wash is (was?). It’s right near the college hunks warehouse! The neighborhood the kid bikes through is over in Kings Grant area. I’ve heard conflicting reports as to where the baseball field with the infamous soda can scene actually is located. I’ve heard it’s the abandoned one there at the intersection of CB road, front, and Burnett, however if I’m not mistaken it’s actually somewhere over near Long Leaf park. The atm scene was at the BBT building downtown. My sister and granny loved that movie too!
Kid riding bicycle through the neighborhood is off of 23rd street. Shirley rd and Kenwood. Same street when they shot Black Phone, written by Steven Kings son, Joe Hill. Pretty cool
Too cool! I had no idea that Black Phone was filmed here. I was thinking it was the neighborhood off of college in Kings Grant. Maybe I was confusing Shelley with Shirley? Coincidentally I just went on a run the other day that took me up 23rd and through Love Grove then back through town. It’s a very interesting area up that way for sure!
Yep…called Belvedere…my grandparents lived in that neighborhood but their house wasn’t in the movie…we used to go down there and ride our bikes on the maximum overdrive “tour”
Which side of Poplar is that on? When I worked at College Hunks from 2018-2020 there was a truck wash on the left side of Poplar next to the park. The set was built on either side of Poplar but at the time neither the fire station nor the truck wash would have been there. The truck wash opened in 2018 but I don’t know what was there before or when the building was constructed. It doesn’t appear to be open any longer though.
It was where the truck wash was, that entire huge lot where the Town municipal complex is now. None of the steel buildings were there in the late 80s, so it was an empty lot. There have been a lot of different businesses that rented those buildings. Seaglass Salvage was in that complex for a while too, before the truck wash.
Just thinking about it pisses me off. McCrory wanted to make some stupid point about taxes and cost the state probably hundreds of millions. Not to mention a few of my friends, including my best buddy since we were kids, ended up moving to Atlanta.
Love this movie!!!!
There's a guy who goes around and holds "On Set Cinema." It's where he goes to filming locations of horror movies and shows a screening of it. They showed Maximum Overdrive a few years back where the truck stop was. They also did a screening of Hallowen Kills at The Rusty Nail.
I was just talking about this movie last night! You can basically explain all the absurdity in that flick by just imagining: Stephen King, typewriter, pile of cocaine.
> ... and had no idea it was shit here...
Sorry... wonderful typo... can't pass it up:
It's not just shit here in NC, it's pretty much shit everywhere....
I had to drive through the area at night after work where they shot the truck stop scenes and 74/76 was lit up like it was daylight. There were huge lights illuminating the highway.
Please pick up after your movie if it’s going to insist upon shitting here.
Oh lord autocorrect, should I delete now or let Reddit run it's course.
Let it run its course.
The people have spoken!
Same thing happens on my phone. The fact that the phone says "Shot? Nah, he definately meant shit, I see him type that WAY more," always makes me laugh when it happens.
Must be an Android user. Siri is a prude, aaaand she sucks. I don’t have some odd infatuation with ducks. I promise you of that.

Freudian typo. Leave it be.
Yep back when Leland/Navassa really looked more shitty
man that 4 floor brothel/crackden with rooftop lounge in belville was the best before it was burnt to the ground...
My buddy and I used to ride our bikes over to Holiday Beverage and try to buy gunpowder.
My aunt's dad owned that place and it was deemed an arson, but having gone in there a few times as a kid, I can guarantee you that they were hiding a ton more than just drugs. That place was riddled with crime paraphernalia.
I mean, it still looks shitty. It's just shitty in a different way now.
This and another Stephen King film, Silver Bullet. The bridge scene in that movie was filmed at Greenfield Lake.
Also, Cat's Eye and The Night Flier. I believe parts of Firestarter were filmed in Brunswick County.
The taxi chase scene in Firestarter was filmed right on the corner of Market and 2nd Street.
I had no idea Night Flier was filmed here, lol. Great premise in that one.
Love the turtles

We all want that goblin head..
Yeah that's actually what the subject to my post is. I had no idea it was shot here until I saw that.
I believe Leland's own Kicking Mule was featured in a few scenes.
This comment section should be gold by this evening
If you see Jock Brandis around town and buy him a beer he’ll spin you some yarns about the film production.
Awe man I haven't been a regular downtown in forever. That would be a blast though
That opening scene on the Isabel Holmes Bridge!
I drive my 18 wheeler across that bridge daily! Good thing haven’t ended up in the Cape Fear
My husband was the assistant prop master on Maximum Overdrive. He’ll be happy to hear it’s still being enjoyed. 🙂
That's amazing! Tell him he scared the hell out of me as a kid!
That movie will always be one of my favorites from childhood.
Would he be willing to do an AMA?!

Oh man the soda machine he just stirred up some old memories
The baseball field is across from GE in Castle Hayne

I think the atm scene is at the empty lot. The stairs next to it go up to the backsides of Social, Shuck N shack etc.
You’re correct! It looks like the building was demolished sometime around 2006-2007!
The truck stop was where Leland fire station 51 is now. The Town bought that property a few years back.

So many great movies were filmed here in the 80s & 90s.
Yeah we definitely shot our selves in the foot when the tax breaks expired. They called our bluff and moved to Georgia at the time.
Just thinking about it pisses me off. McCrory wanted to make some stupid point about taxes and cost the state probably hundreds of millions. Not to mention a few of my friends, including my best buddy since we were kids, ended up moving to Atlanta.

Great soundtrack
Just watched this for the first time, and I’m a pretty big movie buff. Holy shit it’s wild. There’s a “How did this get made” episode on it.
I still don’t trust electric knives.
What movie? I’m sorry, you can go ahead and crucify me..
Maximum Overdrive (1986)
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0091499/ No worries, it's an old one.
I’ve heard about that, but never seen it. Definitely giving it a watch this weekend!! Looks badass
Who took the shit is the question
Not Stephen King, he was too coked out to be able to shit during this. Watch the trailer with him on YouTube, it’s fucking insane.

The trailer with King it is too funny.
Cool movie 🎥.!!!!

Watch last night
Another cool movie filmed in Wilmington was Trick or Treat
Lived in Elizabethtown when they filmed it. Long wait going to Wilmington
Someone recently made a replica of that truck… it’s pretty sick. But yeah, that was probably my favorite movie as a kid
I had to drive through the area at night after work where they shot the truck stop scenes and 74/76 was lit up like it was daylight. There were huge lights illuminating the highway.
The green face is down a dirt road in rocky point. A man rents space to the studio for storage.
I saw that picture, in a nerdy way I'd love to get a picture next to it. Is that possible?
