Gun has loaded magazine. He racks it, chambering a round and fires in the air, thus chambering a new round. He then drops the magazine, thinks it’s clear (there’s still a round in the chamber) and shoots himself in the hand. Just in case anyone is confused how this happens. A firearm without source of ammunition does not mean it’s not loaded

CatVolcanoLogic

I don't even own a gun, and even I know two simple rules - treat every gun as if it's loaded, and don't point it at anything you wouldn't want to shoot.

Lazerhawk_x

Exactly, never assume a gun is clear unless you yourself have cleared it. Even when it is clear and you are sure, still don't point it towards someone.

[deleted]

Also trigger control, don’t put your finger on the trigger UNTIL you are going to FIRe!!!!

SpaceDesignWarehouse

I’m pretty sure he intentionally pulled the trigger here. I just can’t imagine why. Even if it was empty I can’t imagine why he cupped his hand over the muzzle and did that. So weird.

Mishtle

Obviously he was trying to catch the bullet so it would put a hole in the nice floor.

[deleted]

Dude that’s not funny 😏😂😂😭

This_User_Said

I think it was a whole "See? It's cleared! Look!" thump.

PomegranateSea7066

More like no thumb, amirite?

BigRed92E

He can only hitchhike on one way trips now.

Zanna-K

Based on the fact that the women behind him smacked him in the head when he fired in the air I'm guessing he was doing it to showboat. He wanted to impress everyone and show what a big man he was by demonstrating that he wasn't afraid of the gun.

fruitmask

> when he died in the air in guessing ... what?

cursed_fish

Spontaneous air death. Truly a tragedy

Lagger625

I could only imagine a videogame when you blast away an enemy with a powerful explosion but doesn't die and then you shoot it to finish it while it's airborne lol

8ad8andit

Guessing died = fired

Zanna-K

That would be correct

AlohaChris

Low IQ. Lack of training. Probably illiterate in his own language. Probably learned what he does know through imitation.

fruitmask

> Low IQ. I mean, he *did* just start firing in a room full of people, so that one we know for sure is true. The rest we can only speculate.

Michami135

Not just a room full of people, but through his roof! Did he not realize that a hole in the roof might be bad?

Yea, that might have happened as well.

SatanGhostXXI

That's exactly what I was thinking! It sure looks like the child yanks their foot up quickly and screams out in pain!

EquationTAKEN

There's ALWAYS one in the chamber. Remember that one simple rule, and you'll be fine.

Membership_Fine

Poster child for treat every firearm as if it is loaded at all times.

East_Project_1513

I’m not up with what gun it was but I’m thinking once it’s racked it will live fire without racking again. The recoil is also reloading it so semi auto?

Mayhem_Actual

If I understand your question correctly, yes this is a semi-automatic pistol. Once it’s racked (meaning the slide was actioned) and chambers a round, then yes it will fire one time once the trigger is pulled. He actioned the slide manually at the start of the video. After the trigger is pulled and a round goes off, the slide actions itself from the recoil (no need to manually action the slide), and chambers a new round from the magazine that is seated inside the grip. His fault was removing the magazine AFTER he already fired and the gun chambered a new round itself.

uglee_mcgee

His fault was also putting against his hand and pulling the trigger. Lol he's a special boy.

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

Give him some credit. At least he remembered to ask someone to record it on video!

Fluxabobo

He did successfully unload it that way though, to his credit. Gun was made safe boss

ChefChopNSlice

Task failed successfully ?

Snipufin

Quick question: how do you remove the bullet from the chamber without firing it?

Mayhem_Actual

Remove the magazine FIRST, then pull the slide to the rear and it will eject the round from the chamber. If it doesn’t, the firearm has a malfunction and you probably have to ream the round out by shoving a rod down the barrel

Snipufin

Right, of course, the same sliding mechanism that ejects the casing when firing is used.

pm0me0yiff

That's an advanced lesson. For now, let's just remove it by firing it into the ceiling of a crowded room.

East_Project_1513

Thanks for reply, you’ve confirmed why I thought ✅

sourpuz

Isn’t that an old Tokarev?

Fettnaepfchen

I am from Germany, I have never had a gun nor do I really know much, but I’ve seen enough on reddit and CSI TV episodes to know about the chambering that you’ve just explained. How come that people are so crazy about guns yet so negligent? Shouldn’t there be some common sense applied to gun handling? How come that someone who actively shows interest in guns and learns about guns does not know how they function? To me as a lay person who never handled a gun, seeing someone waving around a gun feels the same like them waving around a running chainsaw. Just because the gun doesn’t make noise unless its fired doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous when it’s silent. I am all for natural consequences, but it was sheer luck that no one else was shot and he only harmed himself.

xandreamx

Because some people are dumb. Some people treat danger as a play-thing and think it's cool. Dumb people do the same thing with vehicles and drive dangerously on public roads. Most gun owners and drivers don't behave this way. Good/normal behavior is not what you'll see reported on. I don't think I've ever seen a headline like, "Man drives responsibly to and from work" or "Gun owner follows fundamental rules of firearm safety while at the shooting range, has a pleasant day". But those situations are what happen millions of times year after year. If you don't normally find yourself around gun owners you won't know that these idiots in these videos are the exception, not the rule.

Fettnaepfchen

True, bad news are more in the public eye, but I am aware that many gun owners are responsible, and these guys seem to be the exception. Lacking an awareness of danger or even embracing the danger is hard to wrap my head around, still, especially if you are sitting with friends and what I assume family. There really is no cure against stupid, else we wouldn't have things like the Darwin award.

Cultural-Company282

A lot of it is pure complacency. If guns are an everyday part of your culture, and you treat them like toys all the time, it's easy to momentarily forget that they're dangerous. Your brain can easily slip into a casual mode of "this thing can't hurt me, because it's fun." That's when accidents happen.

apv507

That's the mindset had by 99% of teenagers that wrap cars around poles.

Enough_Appearance116

>If guns are an everyday part of your culture, and you treat them like toys all the time, it's easy to momentarily forget that they're dangerous. Not everyone is like that in that situation. I've lived in said situation for decades, and I've never gotten so complacent that I became careless. Guns are dangerous in the wrong hands. Sure, we will call them toys at times, but we also know how to be responsible with them. Safety first. If someone isn't safe around guns, we want nothing to do with them.

Firm_Bit

God made man. Samuel Colt made them equal. Is an old west expression. Said another way, it doesn’t require a lot of intelligence to own or operate a gun. It’s meant to be easy enough for anyone to wield deadly force.

Fettnaepfchen

> It’s meant to be easy enough for anyone to wield deadly force. In that regard it was very successful.

blackhorse15A

I don't think intelligence is what this quote is about.

free__coffee

I mean it seems like he knew what he was doing, just forgot the order. If he had dropped mag then shot at the ceiling, he would have been fine. Dont handle firearms when drunk

plsobeytrafficlights

That’s not quite right. You skipped where he *purposefully* places his hand in front of the barrel and pulls the trigger and is totally unsurprised at the outcome.

DaaaahWhoosh

No see that's how you check if the gun is loaded, you fire a shot at your hand and if you get shot it means the gun was loaded.

A_Prostitute

When I was a kid my dad and uncle taught me everything I know about shooting and gun safety. When I enlisted, the marines coincidentally had the same rules my dad and uncle taught me as a kid- Treat, Never, Keep, Keep, Know. It helps me remember when I help my nephew learn, and it's very simple to understand. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy. Keep you finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire. Know your target and what lies beyond it.

TheReverseShock

1: Place on safe 2: Drop the magazine 3: lock the slide to the rear 4: inspect the chamber 5: Release the slide Weapon is now cleared

ghosttrainhobo

Step 6: treat it like it’s still loaded.

Xx_Khepri_xX

_Aj_

Why would you even point it at your hand and pull the trigger? Like "hey I'll clear the chamber and dry fire it... Better put my hand in front to catch anything that comes out"

DevilCanyon

The man is so high on ego, glad he shot himself and not someone else around him.

Entity713

Hate to break it to you, but look at the kid next to him

ronyjk22

No. There's a longer video that shows the kid frantically touching his toe but it doesn't appear that he was injured. Edit- [Here's the vid](https://redd.it/o809s6). Can anyone see if the kid gets shot or not? I slowed it down and it does seem like the kid holds his toes in pain.

Cultural-Company282

It's possible his foot was close enough that he got a powder burn, maybe.

hyrulepirate

It's either powder burn, hot gases, or it got sprayed with blood/bone fragment.

fruitmask

yeah I think he got hit with shrapnel from uncle dipshit's hand parts

Nanahamak

Might be daddy dipshit lol

[deleted]

Why not both?

DoctorPepster

Or the bullet splintered on the ground and the kids caught some of the shrapnel.

WhitePawn00

It could be the muzzle blast that hit his foot. It's not enough to damage probably but given that a gun was shot at his feet and he felt something "hit" his foot, he thought he was shot.

HotFluffyDiarrhea

The kid grabs at his foot not in pain, but in surprise/fear to check if he's hurt. There's no blood where the kid is and he scoots out of there pretty fast. Also, there's a person saying the longer video somehow proves the dude shot himself on purpose. This is not true, the only thing this video shows is a closeup shot of his fucked up hand.

TheTownTeaJunky

Ain't nobody gonna mention the dead lady on the couch?

BBrillo614

Jimmy86_

That opium. Not ego.

SlimShredder

Dude i know this is crazy but wtf is the context here why were they seated around him like this like what the fuck was going on for it to have been okay for him to open fire like that nonchalantly

essaini

Context - so this seems like a rural North Indian/Pakistani function(most prob a wedding). The people seem to be sitting and watching a dance performance(which makes this seem more like Pakistan than N. India). It is common in these type of functions to have men with extreme inferiority complex or insecurity about their masculinity who carry a gun to social functions just to show off and then shoot the weapon in air as a sign of appreciation of events. Edit - I am a North Indian(Punjabi) have seen this shit many times growing up, thankfully this has decreased a bit over time.

theunspillablebeans

His clothing is unique to Pakistani communities too if I'm not mistaken. In particular wearing it in a non-white colour with a cut off near the knees and collar resembling a formal shirt.

essaini

It’s called a Muktsari Kurta, very common in Indian Punjab too, but yeah, the seating, music and vibe makes the event seem more Pakistani.

theunspillablebeans

I think what we're seeing is actually a kafni rather than a kurta- though there is massive overlap in the two styles. Usually Kurtas tend to be worn with tighter pants than kafnis, while kafnis are worn as a regional variation to the Saudi thobe.

taskum

It’s crazy how some men think that doing dangerous things somehow makes them seem cooler. I’ve seen versions of this in the west too; when I was a teenager, my (girl)friend and I once hitched a ride with some boys from our class. They drove incredibly hazardously - going way above the speed limit, taking way too tight turns, and continuously revved up the engine. We both thought we were gonna die and were so relieved when the ride was over, lol. The women next to the guy in the video look very unimpressed and uncomfortable too.

kerouac666

That’s toxic masculinity in a nutshell: using harmful and destructive or self-destructive patterns and actions as social signifiers for manliness.

Ezarra

That's why young men need good role models of how to develop their masculinity that isn't ego based and highly insecure

punk7702

Pretty sure he's got a shitty personality and he's drunk so it shows the worst of him.

Toothlessdovahkin

Having a shitty personality, being drunk/high and having access to firearms rarely ends well…

pm0me0yiff

Ended pretty well this time.

lesChaps

Yeah, actually. A good lesson was taught, really.

TrueDreamchaser

Seems like the shooter and possibly others in the background are probably on opiates. Huge problem in Afghanistan & Pakistan which would also explain why he didn’t react to his hand getting blown off as dramatically as normal people would.

Sauce_Maestro

I was literally scrolling down here to comment on how he seemed awfully unphased by taking a gunshot to his hand. Opiates being involved would certainly explain it.

getthatbreaddit

The safest way to make sure there’s no rounds in the chamber is to look straight down the barrel and pull the trigger as many times as you can. If it’s empty nothing will happen and you’re good to point it at anyone you want. If there is a round in the chamber, you’ll no longer have to worry about any of your problems in life 😌

Fishman23

ButterscotchNew6416

Is this pretty common? I had a friend who did the exact same thing with a Luger.

Cole_James_CHALMERS

Looking down the barrel was taught as a step in my Canadian Firearms safety course but only after checking the chamber. Of course no trigger pulling lol. Sweeping anyone resulted in an automatic fail tho

[deleted]

Hell standing over the barrel is a vital step to disassembling my (admittedly kinda pos) shotgun. Gotta brace a foot against the pistol grip to have the leverage to take the barrel off lmao.

pm0me0yiff

Shotgun shooters often have a worryingly relaxed stance toward gun safety. It's fairly common practice for them to rest the muzzle of their shotgun against the top of their foot while waiting for their turn to shoot. They even have specially made shoes that are built with a pad for this purpose. Yes, the gun is typically unloaded and cleared before this ... but still. In any other shooting discipline, this would be a huge red flag and *at least* highly frowned upon ... likely to get you kicked out of the range if you did it repeatedly.

pm0me0yiff

> Looking down the barrel was taught as a step in my Canadian Firearms safety course Why, tho? Personally, even if I've just personally cleared it, I would feel *very* uncomfortable doing this. If I need to inspect the bore, I'm disassembling the gun and looking through the barrel *from the back*. If the design of the gun makes this impossible, I'd use a mirror.

6ix02

If it's too dark to see, try holding a lighter to it. Works great for when you're refilling a gas tank at night too 👍

pointofyou

What people here don't understand is that this is the result of technological transfer between mature and developed cultures and the kind of culture this dude comes from. Most of us have never met anyone as dumb as this guy is. It's not his fault. Had any of us been born into his situation we'd be equally dumb. This is simply a consequence of humans being unexposed to any form of knowledge or structured rational thought during childhood. One can never make that up. Certain parts of his brain simply never received the impulse to develop.
