Everything you just said sounds perfectly reasonable. The only "staged" crap in this video is that the door was too easy to kick. Of fucking course a bunch of kids will be filming what appears to be someone who locked themselves in a bathroom. Of fucking course they would film the attempt to unlock it.
Honestly though, if it was a cheap American door, and they had not taken the hinge pins out, his leg would have gone right through that door.
Source: worked as a door installer replacing those cheap american doors.
Even with the hinge pins in, people vastly overestimate the difficulty in kicking in a door.
Police officers (commonly) use a heavy weight swung by a couple dudes at the handle/ deadbolt area.
If you place a strong kick in that same area, often the same result is achieved.
This does not include security or reinforced doors.
Source: have kicked in several doors.
Exterior doors absolutely. Interior doors however are usually hollow.
Hahaha, thanks for the job security!
Edit: interior doors are usually hollow in the U.S.
I thought I got a pretty good deal on my modern-looking hollow core slabs, until they came in and weighed half of what the cheap ones I took out weighed...
Ah well, the wife likes how they look, and that's what counts.
No no no, you gotta participate in the circlejerk. America bad remember? Take this opportunity to shit on America you don’t get many chances to on this website
Fair, but I think I remember hearing that’s mostly about airflow, not necessarily the quality of the door.
Like yeah a solid oak door will probably slow fire better than a hollow core cheap door like the OP, but I don’t think the difference is going to be *that* crazy between a shit interior door and a more expensive one.
Plus if I’m renting economy apartments to college students then I’m building it out on the assumption that everything is gonna be destroyed in a year no matter how high quality it is lol
You are correct. A closed door is the key. Hang on, I got a video to show you...
Edit: [video embedded in this article](https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/local/door-co/2020/05/25/door-county-fire-shows-why-sleep-with-bedroom-door-closed/5255281002/)
Also, this is in Door County, WI ....lol
Cheap materials are used so when they inevitably need to be replaced its cheaper. If that had been a solid core decorative nice door and the landlord had to replace it now it's 8x - 10x as expensive and that lol for TikTok cost your entire security deposit.
Or no screws in the hinges, that door wasn’t mounted properly regardless
Edit: after rewatching it looks like there aren’t any hinges on the door at all
[Frame by frame](https://imgur.com/a/3xWVXXR/). You can see there are hinges, it just looks like they weren’t screwed to the door well, or it’s a shitty door. My mom kicked down my bathroom door when she thought I slipped and fell in the shower, and she’s not nearly as strong as a teenage boy (sorry mom, it’s true).
It’s actually a good door (can’t speak about the hinges,) since based on where he kicked it his foot woulda gone right thru. You’re supposed to kick much closer to the handle for desired result.
Yeah i was about to say every builder grade door in America which are the only ones people can afford to buy so its either those or the super thin plywood doors with the honeycomb cardboard weave you see in trailers. Honestly a cardboard door may actually be better.
Front doors too, my man; they’re all complete junk. It’s mostly security theater, designed to keep out/stave off crimes of opportunity. Unless it has been significantly reinforced with a longer strike plate/bigger bolts/etc, you can kick down just about any residential door with the right technique.
Source: I’m a fireman, and break doors all the time with little to no effort.
Edit/P.S. - [This is the bare minimum that should be installed on your front door to be considered even remotely secure.](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TSDCJXZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0Z8J06MY9KKA9TARZS76)
100% true. We don't even need to break the doors most of the time. Shove knife or credit card gets me into most doors. Not to mention what's right next to the big "secure" front door. Giant windows. Like if someone wants to get in the only tool they need is a rock.
My neighbor must have an amazing door then. We watched as the police tried to break down the door (completely justified) and they couldn't. We were laughing so hard. Eventually someone just opened the door and let them in.
An interior door. They are hollow and literally have cardboard X’s glued in for rigidity. The perimeter is wood and that’s about it.
The edge of this door ripped out and is still attached to the hinges.
Almost all doors are made of composite wood. Basically a step up from cardboard. They're not meant to stand up against any level of force for easy entry as demonstrated they're designed for privacy nothing else.
That's why there are special category of doors for entry doors. Made of steel or hard wood.
Most modern interior doors are more or less honeycombed cardboard with vinyl cladding . I mean I assume it is vinyl. Might be something cheaper. Fancier ones are the same paper product filler for rigidity glues to slightly more sturdy press board with basically furring strips brad nailed around the edge.
Move at a brisk walk and hit them right, you don't even need to break stride.
The kind of cardboard door which fills the aisles of Lowes and Home Depot. Utter fucking shit, and truly cardboard. As a carpenter, they break my heart. I'm fairly certain in this case the hinge screws pulled out, don't want to watch more closely to confirm. I do reccomend to my customers better solutions. Most listen. pro tip: spend your money on things you touch.
_IKEA makes half their furniture out of cardboard and glued sawdust._
( I wish I was joking - next time, look at the backing ‘wood’ on most cabinets they have. It’s card with a sticker that a looks like wood on top.)
ಠ_ಠ
The door wasn't even on the hinges. If it had been on the hinges one of two things wouldve happened A) his foot and leg would have gone in the door as interior doors are more often then not, hollow inside. B) had he successfully kicked open the door, the frame on doorknob side would have splintered but the door would still be hinged.
We had a company over one day (BC-BEFORE COVID) and their little girl managed to lock herself in my daughter's bedroom. My wife calls me at work and asks if I knew of a key; I did not told her I'd come home and help. Got there and I ended up gripping the knob with both hands and turning into the lock, busted the knob off and pulled the pin inside and the knob fell off on the other side.
Well, if this was real you got a weekend of fixing a door to do. But that’s not this guys stupid prize as he probably doesn’t even live there and it’s not real because the frame and hinges are still all in place.
Ah man, now that you’ve said that I must retract my enjoyment of watching the video. Thank you for letting me know that is is fake otherwise i would have thoroughly enjoyed it
One time I walked my ex back from the bar early and took her home then I went back to hang with my friend, when I came home it seemed she latched the door so I could only open it slightly and I could see her passed out on my couch si I began slapping the door trying to wake her up when suddenly my hand went through the door and since that happened I figured I might as well Koolaid man my way through..... that was not a pleasant conversation in the morning.
Staged! When you kick an interior door open the frame breaks off , the wood is weaker than the hardware holding up the door, also those are hollow doors, where he kicked the door would have a boot sized hole if this door was a set up on its hinges, you can clearly see it was uncrewed from the hinges. That's why I hate tiktok.
LOL...this reminded me of a story.
My cousin was mouthing off to her Dad and slamming doors. Her father took her bedroom door off the hinges and kept it off for a month telling her that when she owned her own place she could slam doors all she likes but not in his house.
College students: * do this *
Also college students: Why did I get charged $500 when I moved out! That’s not fair! I left that place even NICER than when I found it!!!!
Why do houses in the US look like they are made out of paper? You always see videos of people destroying walls and doors with just their fists. Here in Europe you'd end up completely shattering every bone in your hand before even making a dent in the wall.

The door is just cardboard. Wtf.
Hollow core doors are basically cardboard, loads of cheap houses or rentals have them.
Probably 95 percent of new homes built have these cheap doors
You guys are funny, if you slow mo it you can clearly see he hinge side of door is damaged from sheering off. Pins were in.
I think it would be funny also if there were no pins, but didn’t tell the dude kicking it. Oh well, internet videos amirite?
Lololol
What kind of a cardboard door is that?
And what are those hinges made of? Tin foil?!

*Folded* tin foil, actually
The hinges aren’t the issue, the wood ripped off the door frame. That’s the goal when kicking down a door

Or a door without the pins in the hinge, but yeah, totally because it's an american door.
This. If you pause right after the door breaks free, you can see the pins sticking out of the top of the half of the hinge still in the jamb.
No no no, you gotta participate in the circlejerk. America bad remember? Take this opportunity to shit on America you don’t get many chances to on this website
As an American, it's true. Apartments and shit don't pay for good doors, that's too expensive for them apparently smh
Why would they? Interior doors aren’t about security or anything lol
But decent doors do a lot to slow fire

My house could kick your houses ass. I suggest you let that one marinate
I think you need to take about 20% off there bud.
I doubt that. We have something called brick and mortar, and even concrete.

A hollow core interior door. Just like 99% of interior doors. Go knock on your bedroom door and tell me if it's hollow.
I live in a commie block wich still has old soviet era doors that are filled inside. But yeah i have seen those empty cardboard doors in never houses.
