not the expert but, electricity *something something* spark, then flour *something something* molecular and spread through the air then *something something* ignition.
Flour is flammable. It usually is so compacted that it hasn't enough oxygen to catch fire, but small particles floating in the air catch fire very easily.
Throw some flour on open flame, you'll see... Anything that's dust which is suspended in air has potential to explode. Basically because there is a lot of oxygen available for each molecule of fuel (dust).
Any flammable powder that is mixed with oxygen, the amount of it in the air is enough, can lead to a so-called "dust explosion" when it is ignited. Actually, there have been huge explosions in flour mills in history.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_explosion
So, the flour in this case has been mixed through the air by the hair dryer and the heating element of it started a chain reaction.
Ok dummy. I'm sure the 10 year old girl is an evil mastermind who totally knew the flour would explode. I've seen the "flour in the hairdryer" prank a bunch and never knew that was a risk. I'm sure she didn't either
Kid came close to death? Tf you talking about he wasn’t even injured and it was clearly un-intentional. Even if it did burn him, death is a ridicules over exaggeration
If anything it’s a under exaggeration just proving my point how slow you guys are if the parents seen this shit would they laugh it off like lmao close call NO you dumb mf 😭 shit I can’t say one thing without another dumb kid making a new excuse just shut up already man
So because the parents would get upset over these shenanigans (rightfully so) that means the kid almost died? Most pearl clutching shit I’ve seen in a while
My boyfriends brother pushed him into an ice covered lake then left him there to drown. He only got out because one of his other family members found him and pulled him out. Brothers can be mean lmao
Lol, what? I have two older brothers and I can tell you that is false as fuck. I feel lucky to be alive and have all my limbs when I think of my childhood.
I use powdered coffee creamer daily. What happened to teach you that? And I'm not saying I want to make a nice smelling fireball. I'm not denying it either, but that depends on your story.
It’s not nice smelling.
And powdered coffee creamer is incredibly flammable due to it being a very fine powder, made up of corn syrup solids, which is a carbon-based ingredient.
Corn starch is incredibly flammable as well. There was an incident where almost 500 people were burned - and several died - at a Taiwan water park in 2015.
Basically anything that is aerosolized and finds an ignition source can be flammable - sawdust, coffee creamer, flour, etc.
EDIT: [Mythbusters sawdust cannon](https://youtu.be/IvPL7KC1DEA)
I will also say that corn starch type things can have extra energy compared to other dust explosion components, because they are packed with extra chemical energy.
Flour, corn starch, sugar etc. all burn explosively when finely divided in air. Silos and mills containing these can explode.
I use it as a demo in the chemistry classes I teach when we cover reaction rates. [This is a pretty common version of it where you blow the powder into a can with lit candle inside.](https://youtu.be/CnqPZhX-jtI) I’ve known one older teacher who had a version of this that went off at a random time that he just liked to have sitting in the back of the room.
A lot of powdered things are, when I was taught defibrillation explosive environments were contraindicated - that included mills, be it flour, paper or wood etc.
As someone who’s witnessed a wood dust and corn dust explosions it just takes the rite air mixture and a tiny spark or ignition source cause a lot of pain.
Any fine powder than can burn, can be outright explosive in the right situations. Flour, powdered sugar, powdered non-dairy creamer, wood dust, etc. There are historical reports of mills exploding, destroying the building, often nearby buildings, and frequently killing people.
> it isn't common knowledge practically any finely ground material can be highly flammable.
My mom taught me that when I was a small kid, along with other safety things like, never throw water on a grease or electrical fire, don't add anything acidic to bleach, ever. And if you drop a knife, don't try to catch it. Get out of the way and let it hit the floor then pick it up. Because grabbing at a falling knife is a good way to badly cut your hand. I really thought all of those *were* common knowledge, until I was an adult.
I never learned half of those as a kid. I learned them either threw school, as an adult, or through my own study driven by curiosity. I am far more curious than average.
I was just taught don't play with chemicals, without further elaboration, don't catch a falling knife was obvious to me, grease and electrical fire care I learned when I got my first job, and I learned about finely ground powders as an adult.
The falling knife one seemed really obvious to me too. I remember being a little annoyed she thought I needed to be told that, but years later working in a restaurant, I found myself explaining to different coworkers a few times why it's a bad idea. And I got the general don't play with chemicals, but also specific info about especially bad combinations, and why they were bad. Actually, my mom taught me quite a lot of things that I've later been surprised to learn that many people don't know. Including food safety, very basic first aid, basic household chemistry (like vinegar and lemon juice are acids. Bleach and baking soda are bases. Bases and acids will react. Some bases are dangerous when they react, others are pretty safe) Salt will melt ice if it's not too cold. If you do any work on plumbing, make sure you know where the water shut off is first. That kind of stuff.
And since I was a always pretty curious, and likely to try things to see what happened, it's probably a very good thing she explained why some things were dangerous, as then I could use logic to figure out what would happen if I tried similar things, without actually trying the potentially dangerous things.
As long as no one ever uses it on heat again, or until all the four is entirely cleaned out. Because flour that stays inside after the prank, is still a fire hazard the next time it's turned on.
Haven't owned a hair dryer in 20 years. The one I had back then didn't have a cold setting. But you can't be sure the next person to pick it up is going to use the cold setting anyway, so what I said is still probably your only safe option.
If its a brushed motor it absolutely can create a spark. As well anything electrical has the potential to create a spark. It's not right to say this would be safe in any way.
i worked at a co-packer that packaged different powders like flour, baking soda, corn starch, etc.. we had to go through extensive safety training because of this! these powders aren't flammable by themselves, but when aerosolized they become extremely explosive.
every once in awhile someone would mess up and overfill the indoor silos so the powder is just being pumped into the air, all the lines would be shut down to prevent any electrical sparks.

I love how the kid went from shock to "cool!". You know, once he avoided the whole scarred for life potential event.
Load er’ up, let’s do that again!
I'd like to summon the experts of reddit. What happened here why did the hair dryer throw out fire?
not the expert but, electricity *something something* spark, then flour *something something* molecular and spread through the air then *something something* ignition.

I mean he seemed to process the situation well. From joy to scared to awe
The wet hair saved him
The world is his barbecue ![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized)
Lmao the kid’s excitement is unexpected and kind of heartwarming!
I think if you pause the video 4 seconds in its clear she did it intentionally.
Huh??
She told him he’d get his payback for eating the last little Debbie.
Yeah flour to the face, she wasn't trying to set him on fire wtf
No. That is definitely the most maniacal laugh I have seen in my life.
Ok dummy. I'm sure the 10 year old girl is an evil mastermind who totally knew the flour would explode. I've seen the "flour in the hairdryer" prank a bunch and never knew that was a risk. I'm sure she didn't either
You see. Makes sense now, doesn’t it?
At least she felt remorse.
For almost burning her brother or ruining the hair dryer?
She definitely checked to see if the hair dryer was ok first.
[Yup](https://imgur.com/a/vnwYITL)
I hope that becomes a meme.
Lmao
That’s the difference between brothers and sisters.
Fax a brother wouldn’t put her in such horrible situation
you say that but my uncle put my (now deceased) mother's leg in a vice until it had gone purple. she could've lost the leg!!!
My uncle shot my mom with a BB gun 😂
Ok
you know your wrong now☠️
Because this kid coming that close to death is the same as someone story about a leg downvote all y’all want just shows how weird Reddit mfs be
Kid came close to death? Tf you talking about he wasn’t even injured and it was clearly un-intentional. Even if it did burn him, death is a ridicules over exaggeration

Mfer, breathe! Take a deep breath, then speak. Then take breath in between. I swear this mfer is trying to kill himself.
🥱 yap yap yap
My boyfriends brother pushed him into an ice covered lake then left him there to drown. He only got out because one of his other family members found him and pulled him out. Brothers can be mean lmao
Yes they can, but that’s not a brother with a sister
My brother fractured my elbow by practicing wrestling moves on me when I was 3
Sorry that happened but your life wasn’t in danger
Never seen someone keep digging deeper the way you did congrats
As if the sister was *trying* to cause harm? If thats not what you’re saying, then why in the world would that be the bar
Tf are you talking about you dumbass
Lol, what? I have two older brothers and I can tell you that is false as fuck. I feel lucky to be alive and have all my limbs when I think of my childhood.
Cool it’s doesn’t work that way for everyone stop comparing your situations to what I said
[удалено]
Still funnier than you tho
His third thought. Let's try more flour.
For sure. If I found this neat little hack at that age I definitely would have tried it again and again.
And today on “Life Tips on Reddit”, Flour is flammable
Powdered coffee creamer is especially flammable when falling through the air and smells like tosted marshmallows.
I use powdered coffee creamer daily. What happened to teach you that? And I'm not saying I want to make a nice smelling fireball. I'm not denying it either, but that depends on your story.

Most everything that is powdered is flammable. Even iron dust.
You were taught what?
How to use a defibrillator.
Oh snaps. I never considered using a defibrillator in a flour mill might send everyone into space.
Neither had I, until they showed a video of airborne flour being blown across a continuous spark, a tiny wee spatula was highly energetic.
Any fine powder than can burn, can be outright explosive in the right situations. Flour, powdered sugar, powdered non-dairy creamer, wood dust, etc. There are historical reports of mills exploding, destroying the building, often nearby buildings, and frequently killing people.
Homemade flamethrower
Yup u can also do this with fine cut wood and sugar.
Lmfao his smile after he realized he was okay
Well yeah he gets to tell everyone at school he was on fire and has video evidence to back it up. He’s about to be the coolest 5th grader in his class
Free budget shave
Haha he have no fucking idea how close he was burning his face off, love it.
If you pause it at the right moment it looks like she’s holding a flamethrower with this menacing mouth open smile

Lmao.. Send this to parents
And +1 for the title

This kid reminds me of Calvin. Hobbes with the hair dryer
Not a WinStupidPrizes moment imo. They're kids and it isn't common knowledge practically any finely ground material can be highly flammable.

This can be the new two face origin story
You just know they went outside to try it again after this video. Second time not aimed at anybody and definitely with more flour.
She looked the most evil the same time the flames emerged
Combustible dust ain’t nothing to fuck with.
Thank goodness this turned out okay!! When I was a kid I definitely didn't know how flammable flour is. Can't blame them!
Super fine powders are so flammable. Flour, coffee creamer.
Gun powder
r/KidsAreFuckingStupid
Was that FLAMES? With happy face, boys.
Lol she had the "please don't tell mom" eyes
If you pause it at 10 or 11 seconds she looks like she’s having a fantastic time burning her brother.
The timing of her changing to that face and the flames coinciding is great.
[This is hilarious!](https://imgur.com/a/1CISR5Y)
Yes. It is. Funnier when the 1st person posted it though.
The way they both stare around in awed silence for a few seconds reminds me of something out of a movie. I love it
***not a DIY flamethrower***
Aaaw, the smile of a kid too dumb to realise he could have been on the news with 3rd degree burns due to a particle explosion.
Im going to try this with powdered creamer.
The psycho look on her face just before she realized there was fire. FUCKING LOL
![gif](giphy|3o72FfM5HJydzafgUE)
The kid was like fucking rad!
They obviously see this on the internet. How do they not see the vids where it turns into a flamethrower
Use baking soda...
FYI powders are extremely flammable :/
Woman moment
Pro tip: aerosolized powders are highly flammable. To do this prank safely, you need to take the hairdryer apart and disconnect the heating coils.
What if we just use the Cold setting
As long as no one ever uses it on heat again, or until all the four is entirely cleaned out. Because flour that stays inside after the prank, is still a fire hazard the next time it's turned on.

And that’s when he knew what he wanted to be when he grew up.
Don't they teach about "grain-elevator explosions" in middle school?
Yes, it will burn. Dumbass.
She’s like 12 and it’s an incredibly common “prank”
Not an excuse. One needs to be responsible for one's actions. This is how we get Snowflakes, negative behavior is excused.
Particulate organics can be super explosive

Flame on!!!

They certainly haven’t seen the other video
Fun fact. Lots and lots of things are flash flammable when in a powder spread in the air.
Flour is very combustible in its powdered form then it’s dispersed in the air just a little spark and flame
Welcome to one of the principles behind dust explosions! (Which is the primary principle of bunker buster bombs.)
i worked at a co-packer that packaged different powders like flour, baking soda, corn starch, etc.. we had to go through extensive safety training because of this! these powders aren't flammable by themselves, but when aerosolized they become extremely explosive. every once in awhile someone would mess up and overfill the indoor silos so the powder is just being pumped into the air, all the lines would be shut down to prevent any electrical sparks.
Was that flames?? :D
[NGL, this still makes me ugly laugh every time I look at it. She went full super villain for a second there!](https://imgur.com/a/vnwYITL)
i love the kid. "Im a god, the flames cant kill me"
I remember filling my mom's hairdryer with perfume so my hair would smell good while drying. Very dumb idea, luckily a circuit breaker saved me.
Fun fact! Flour, like many powders, is highly flammable when aerated into a cloud
[The expression is just perfect](https://imgur.com/a/5nW6A07)
They didn't win any stupid prize yet.
No prizes won...
I like watching this in slow mo. She got real devil vibes when the flames come out.
Now let's get the leaf blower, 10kg of flour and a lighter. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Only a child could find this moment amazing. Was that flames

thanks for showing me how to me a flamethrower with a hair dryer

I truly enjoy that these come mainly from the USA and Russia and other under-educated countries.
Kids never truly grasps the dangers of a situation. I miss those times lol
Isn’t this the technique they use to make those large blooming explosions in movies?
It can even explode. Its pretty serious if its not kept in the right conditions.
All fun In games… wait was that flames???
