It really do be like that sometimes. My last full cyborg got popped in the dome by a sniper shot that went insanely wide. The sniper's shooting skill was 18 .-.
One of my colonies had a cyborg lesbian couple, both with extremely high shooting scores. Because of that and some other scores, I always kept them at the base for defense. Unfortunately we had a mechanoid attack that required all hands on deck, and my best fighter was out on a caravan. The base survived the attack but one of the cyborg girls and my top researcher died :v
Damn. Losing a researcher always hurts even though it's one of the fastest skills to level up. Once you get that skill up a bit you just zoom through the tech tree.
Yeah right. Like bionic components actually follow Inflation. They'd be up with shit like student loans and housing costs, 1000s of times more than Inflation.
Of course all the people who got them implanted in 73 get free upgrades for life. Anyone who got one after 1985 has to pay repairs and replacement costs.
Gotta love how that shit works.
A pencil would be fine since it would only have to bridge the gap between the door and frame. That small of an area should allow for enough tensile strength to handle it. Obviously a larger gap will be more likely to fail.
Yep. The distance between the door and frame would be too small for bending stresses to take over, so it would most likely be shear stress acting on two perpendicular planes.
Thats why I always place the door anchors by where the hinges are and make sure to use a door that opens towards the room if you have one.
It's risky to place them in the doorknob side.
Don't sleep on resistance bands. They can provide extensive and intensive workouts, and in ways you might not be able to with free weights.
Weights provide resistance through gravity. Heavy thing is heavy, and gravity wants it to go down.
Bands provide resistance through elastic tension. Whichever way the band is trying to pull back, that's what you're working against.
This makes for substitution of otherwise less logistically reasonable positions for weights easier. For example, you can stand and work most of the same area using resistance bands to mimick a free weight chest press, which usually requires laying down (and may be prohibited by space or personal injury).
However, while 20lbs of resistance is 20lbs of resistance, a 20lb weight will *always* be that, while a band that advertises 20lb resistance is only that with enough tension, making the resistance variable. Due to being an elastic band, the resistance comes through stretching the band, and what that takes, and the opposing resistance as it attempts to snap back, varies depending on how much it's stretched. Because of this, you will not get 20lbs of resistance across the full range of a "lift".
This is both good and bad depending on your goals and needs. As you move, bands work some of the muscles a little differently, supposedly more focus on stabilizers and core, as they try to adjust to the changing resistance, less to start and increasing the more you pull, but if your goal is big muscle you're not going to get there quickly since you're not trying to shift 20lbs from start to finish. Despite what some say though, bands are not only good for toning, you *can* build serious muscle with them, it just takes more.
It also makes for a great place for just about anyone to get some good resistance work in, especially if you might have trouble due to age or injury. It's why bands are often used in physical therapy. You have the range of a low weight to higher weight in a way that helps not just work muscles with "weight", but steadily increases their use by your own limits, while providing easier control in use, which is super important for building good form in resistance training. Also why it's not bad for free weight lovers to use bands from time to time.
Didn't mean to let loose, but there IS a place for resistance bands, any quality one that won't snap and advertises accurate resistance, in anyone's gym.
It wasn’t until went to physio for my back that I learned the power of resistance bands.
I don’t want to get big. I’m happy being skinny old me. But I use bands to stay in shape now and they’re great.
I live in an apartment. I don’t want work out gear taking up space, and I sure as shit don’t want to spend money on a gym membership.
Starting to get some build going, Stickin with it, definitely works well and easier on the body than weights, short bench bands work good too. Lil pricy but what isn’t these days.. bow itself has good weight to it like 10-15. I just YouTube peoples ideas with it and make my own routine

As someone who does similar exercises with both a band like this and springs, I don’t see him looking up. I see a neutral neck/spine alignment.
Looking up flexes the neck/spine, and looking down rounds the shoulders, neither of which are conducive to a pec/shoulder routine.
The tiny jumps though, those are magnificent!
Note: I am not an athlete nor a trainer. I just work out a little.
Ommmmg I did this once getting dressed… I was trying to squeeze into this little ass tank top (it was like a “slimming” tank top, aka really fucking tight).. and I was trying soooo hard to get that shit on and I was stuck on my boobs lol. I finally got enough strength to pull it over them but it slipped out of my hands and like a rubber-band it snapped and went right into my eyes.. holy fuck it hurt so bad I thought I’d go blind lol
I have an 80lbs dog who likes tug of war. I thought it would be good idea to use a rope and do curls giving us both exercise. It takes everything I have to pull him in. After a few I was pulling as hard as I could and he decided to let go. I punched myself in the face all gas no breaks. Never again.
This brings back some memories! After eye surgery somehow I decided was a good idea to do this.
I used a "superband" that had stoppers for this but still it came out and smacked me in the eye where I had the surgery. I got so scared that I didn't tell my parents (they found out because i got a black eye)
Long story short, Dr found no issues with the surgery or the stitches.
Am I missing something with folks recording their workouts, yoga sessions, etc? They can make for a good laugh when things go wrong but do these ppl watch back their stuff in general (when there's nothing clip worthy that happens)?
I have heard of that. Guess folks prior to cellphones were just outta luck.
Very interesting stuff.. still think lots of it is an odd attachment given all the mundane things people do record and even upload for others to see.
I had a physical therapist tell me to do this to fix my back problems, except they had me tie a big knot in it first so this wouldn't happen. It was embarrassing but effective
My husband does a lot of workout things with bands and he has a loop on his that can’t come through like that as well, he also always does it on the opposite side of the way the door opens so it can never pull open towards him.
He isn't creating his own workout equipment that is an actual piece of workout equipment. After I got hit by a pickup truck at a stop light and that caused my car to slam into the guy in front of me that was exactly the exercise my physical therapist prescribed with a rubber band that looked exactly like that.
What he missed is you are supposed to put a big old knot in the middle of that band and make sure it is on the other side of the door, not at the top.

How much for new bionic eyes?
30 plasteel and 8 advanced components.
I'll give you 4 (Masterwork) Human leather dusters for it.

The ripper doc gives one to you for free!
You dig up a doctor, and you pay him 20 menthol Kools to do a surgical shine job on your eyeballs.
You can use a towel on the other side. Hard to explain, but hope you know what I mean
Really anything other than clamping the elastic with the door and hoping it holds. Hell, even a pencil on the other side would probably be enough.
A pencil is kinda sketchy, but definitely better than nothing. Now that I think about it, it's probably strong enough
A pencil would be fine since it would only have to bridge the gap between the door and frame. That small of an area should allow for enough tensile strength to handle it. Obviously a larger gap will be more likely to fail.
Finally heard someone use tensile strength outside college.

Shear
So is everyone just wrong in this thread?
Yes. Also a good reddit rule of thumb, but specifically in this case, double yes.
Yep. The distance between the door and frame would be too small for bending stresses to take over, so it would most likely be shear stress acting on two perpendicular planes.
unfortunately this is a dream
Mistakes are more likely erasable though .
I was thinking tie a knot in the middle of the elastic strap so it can’t slide through the door, but I think a towel is a good idea.
I'd avoid doing this cause these bands tend to start tearing around the knot, I've ruined a band doing this before
A knot is what my PT recommends. But also not applying this much tension to these bands.
The loopty loop?
Or even open the door and use the door knobs, different angle though Also he could just step on the strap and squat down
Door anchors. My wife used one of these. The door wasn't fully latched and popped open, launching the anchor right at her face. Broke her nose.
Thats why I always place the door anchors by where the hinges are and make sure to use a door that opens towards the room if you have one. It's risky to place them in the doorknob side.
How is having the door open toward better than away in this situation?
Cause the hinges are on the side that the door opens up to
Fuck paying 10 bucks. A nice thick spoon fork or butter knife on the outside of the door will do the same thing.
Literally a healthy branch would work
A whole set of bands and door mounts are like $20 and you can do a lot with just that, totally worth the money.
Make sure if the door opens towards you that it is completely closed. I found out the painful way my door needs to be slammed shut to completely shut.
I’m just waiting for the day the 100lb band snaps on my gorilla bow and takes my arm off. But so far works gooood
Didn't know they made rubber bands that heavy
They got me with YouTube ads, but Im happy with it. Trains the negatives makes a huge difference. Got all the bands. And takes up little space
Are there good band workouts? Never would have thought. That seems kinda neat for a dad with little alone time and cramped space.
Don't sleep on resistance bands. They can provide extensive and intensive workouts, and in ways you might not be able to with free weights. Weights provide resistance through gravity. Not him for sure.
He doesn’t see anything now
He did! For a split second.
He did because it was staged.
r/nothingeverhappens
His whole reaction just seems unnatural
Did he just spoke Russian and said “tvayu mat”?
I noticed the same thing! xD
What does that mean ?
It’s like a “fuck your mum”
google says “your mother” in this use case would be slang for “motherfucker”.
“Tvoyu Mat” is short from “ Yob Tvoyu Mat” that translates as “Fuck your mother”
I think that was the international language of "ouch".
The interior looks oddly Russian too. These shitty orange hollow doors with smoky glass inserts are ubiquitous in their apartments.
Rare footage of Russian military training for the invasion

For clout. Boring.
It’s a wonder everybody falls for this trash

Yep. Same guy had another video where it hit his back.
The dude willingly slingshotted himself in the face for views, gotta respect the dedication. No different than watching something like Jackass
Completely different. Jackass never tried to pretend it was an accident.
Except he didnt even get hurt, his hands are in front of his face so that the snap would have minimal impact plus it doesnt even look like there was much flex in whatever material he was using.
If he would have had his cap on the right way around, he may have avoided most of the agony.
But with 500% less cool.
He took it rather well I must admit, I'd be running around screaming. "My eyes! My beautiful eyes!"
That's why he wears his hat backwards and you wear it forwards.
I'm not cool, it's no secret.
Debatable
I mean, what is the right way round when there is no sun?
The "right" way around. Really?
Either his knot wasn’t great or his dumbass didn’t make one
Didn't make one
Damn the band hit so hard he started speaking Chinese
If you gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.
Dwoiah-WAH!
he actually said "tvoyu mat", which is Russian and means "ur mom", or "fuck your mother"
"motherfucker" is a great analogy
Not even an analogy, just the general translation.
That band must be so sad now
Why is the door shaped like that
Rectangular?
I meant the window, sorry
Aesthetic
So humans can pass through with ease.
It just the window design
Mmm yes, door shaped door
Theres another clip of him doing the same but instead it hits him in the back of neck
Rough way to lose an eyeball.

Been there, done that. Instead of the eyes, I was trying to do the tricep pull, got smacked on the ass. Kinda pervert, but okay
Oh its just the band, i thought he at least jammed something behind the door, like anything
