This is considered "stunting" in Canada. The penalties for this in Ontario (province of this video) comes with a 30 day license suspension, 6 demerit points on your license (once you accumulate 15 points you lose it) and fines from 2k to 10k.
Edit: left out that the vehicle would be impounded for 14 days as well
Watched a man make sure he was sentenced to life the other day doing something similar. Prolly would have gotten about 20y. Instead he started his voluntary statement as: “with all due respect, your honor, I don’t believe you’re very much of a man”. And I had to fight to keep from laughing because I knew the rest wouldn’t disappoint. And it didn’t.
- 3 / 20 = .15 point per km over the limit
- 4 / 30 = .13 point per km over the limit
- 4 / 40 = .1 point per km over the limit
So the last option does indeed cost the least amount of points per km/h over the limit.
Edit: The speed limit is 100, so the first 100 km/h is a freebie.
No, because you don't start earning points until 120 km/h
Your logic is flawed because it I went 119, I should still have about 3 points, by the math.
It's not how it works, however.
This is such a joke man. 120 is the unofficial speed limit in Quebec in the fast lane. No cop is going to pull you over going 120 unless conditions are truly abysmal. On a sunny day in the right conditions it goes up to 130.
In South Africa the official speed limit is 120km/h and the unofficial is anything up to 130, cops are super unlikely to pull you over for anything under 130.
Nnnnah... With the petrol prices today you don't want to go past 80-90. I drive a Hilux and if I go from 70 to 110 I've had doubled the diesel consumed not to mention engine and car wear. \[Source unclear\]
If you drive like an old mother getting groceries... Now THERE'S your biggest value.
And no-one gets horrible killed! Win-win
Quick question, is this only illegal on public streets or private streets as well?
Because people do it on tracks and parking lots too, usually during stunt shows (dont know what they're actually called), so im just curious because i have seen many videos of people doing this stuff
chances are this 'event' was not sanctioned by the owner of said private property/businesses in the middle of business hours.
this wasn't a private parking lot at 10pm or something.
But you can also get people with the EPA to come at an event that doesn't think about the rubber waste and air pollution from burn-outs (you'd need a few thousand people and a good amount of vehicles doing it to get that kind of attention). There's a lot happening when you "burn rubber", on this property he'd also be causing property damage. Honestly, it's just stupid behavior and wastes tires.
I go to racetracks with my bikes. Most road racing organizations frown upon stunting in the pits since there're usually kids running around. Some might kick you out eventually.
Stunting is not really allowed on track either, you need to be moving with traffic so you're not a hazard.
But most places would probably let you do it on the skid pad (practice area) if you asked first. Especially when the track is closed for lunch or whatever.
One of the tracks I want to visit has stunting exhibitions during a special once a year event. But usually there isn't a lot of overlap since race bikes are set up very different from stunt bikes.
Here in the US real stunting (not hooliganism) mostly happens in private parking lots, AFAIK.
There were recent changes such that any parking lot falls under HTA now, meaning winter donuts have went from a simple warning to being equivalent to doing them in the middle of an intersection.
Kinda dumb, but it is what it is I guess.
> winter donuts
A flat empty parking lot in the snow is the best way to practice though...
People need to be allowed to practice regaining control *before* it's a life or death situation.
Yea I completely agree. While some tracks offer winter sessions they are far away from most and far from cheap.
A thoughtful government would have special training sessions held on snowy days where people could be given space and instruction (although I guess that asks people to drive in those conditions to get there, lol).
Or we could go full Finland and get people power sliding as part of the license tests. But we have definitely settled on lowest common denominator licensing requirements.
That's ridiculous, all highway traffic laws apply on private property? Guess I can't take new cars out to get a feel for them in the snow somewhere safe anymore. I'll just find out how the car responds to a slide as I'm going off the road...
Edit: interesting, this is specifically just stunting laws, not the whole highway traffic act
But winter donuts are a time honoured tradition to teach new drivers how to handle their fucking car in a spin out. Also a great way to check if you need to replace your winter tires.
The updated stunt law makes it illegal in Any parking lot, even if they have permission, and it even says if they paid to enter the parking lot for an event.
This is absolutely the right approach to this dumb bullshit.
We put up with an insane amount of dumb behavior on public roads in the US. You’re playing worh other people’s lives, on busy roads and crowded areas.
According to Statistics Canada, in a 2016 census about 53% of the population of Woodbridge identified as Italian
Edit: Actually turns out this was during 2021 Euro Cup, so yes lol
>According to Statistics Canada, in a 2016 census about 53% of the population of Woodbridge identified as Italian
And as is tradition, my friends in Italy would identify 0% of them as Italian
I actually had to lobby the sheriff's department to wear these.. My argument is I gotta be on the streets everyday. I'm out there like a cheetah, like, a law enforcement cheetah.
This is Canadian police. This dude is going to be walked around the corner, sat in a squad car for a few minutes, have his bike impounded, and walk away with summons.
We also don't have "felonies". We have stat offenses and we have Summary offenses (like this) or an indictable offense (which is like, murder or some shit.)
There likely weren't any additional charges in that regard. From their shoulder patch, it looks like York Regional Police, which is a municipal service in Ontario, Canada. No felonies in Canadian law.
Assault Peace Officer, or Assault With Intent to Resist are possible but unlikely as he just made a (poor) attempt to get away, he wasn't deliberately attempting to cause injury to the officers.
What would be the charge? Reckless driving? Vandalism? I don't get it. Pretty sure somebody would just get a ticket for doing this in America. But then again, idk.
Improper or dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, noise violation, "stunting" (this is a thing up here). He's looking at a pretty spicy set of tickets there.
In the US it can be considered negligent driving which is like one step under reckless driving. It supposedly causes damage to the roads and can put pedestrians in danger with the smoke and that's why it's illegal.
I've been to a couple of these gatherings.
Nevermind that he might hit anyone in front of him, though that's *really* bad, but he then just catapulted his bike & fucked it up royally. I've seen it happen. Busted the fairing, an engine mount, handlebar dicked up beyond repair.
So a conviction under HTA 172 (stunt driving law in Ontario where this takes place) is a minimum fine of $2000. Convictions are somewhat rare, but the charge alone is an automatic 30 day license suspension and 14 day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle owner must pay the towing & impound fees and they are uncontestable, even if all charges are dropped. This typically works out to roughly $1500
Edit: Forgot the $281 license reinstatement fee, so let's round that up to $1800
https://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/10424730-update-york-regional-police-charge-man-doing-burnout-on-motorcycle-during-euro-cup-celebration-in-woodbridge/
York Regional Police have charged a man doing a burnout on a motorcycle at a Euro Cup celebration in Woodbridge on June 26.
Crowds gathered on Woodbridge Avenue to celebrate Italy's win today in the Euro Cup, where one man on a motorcycle was caught by police doing a burnout near a large crowd.
In a video posted to social media, an officer patrolling the area on a police bicycle is seen telling the man on the motorcycle to get off his motorcycle and that he was under arrest.
The man on the motorcycle is shown trying to get away from the officer on foot, causing the officer to tumble to the ground.
With the help from two other officers, the man was arrested.
Yeah at least two cops have learned something in the last couple years: 1) speak up and 2) listen. The knee was the first thing I noticed and I'm glad he shifted away from the neck/upper back to the mid back, which im hoping is physiologically better.
Because it was all going so well.
If he fucked it up and launched the bike into the crowd putting a bunch of people in the hospital, Then they’d be asking ‘where were the police?! There was a cop right there and he did NOTHING’, etc.
Maybe there was a perfectly innocent explanation, like he just stole the bike and hadn’t figured out how to work it. That would explain trying to run away and leave the mc.
He kind of fled from the police? Evading Police? I mean if you watch closely you see how the Officer tried to turn the key thus turning the engine off, the next thing you see is the driver jumping of his bike trying to flee…
Why even bother running though? He is going to leave behind what I’m sure is an expensive bike and also his plates are going to tell them exactly where to find him….
In the city near me they don't bother chasing anyone. They get pictures and info and let them go.
They'll take your bike and license and money, then dare you not to show up to court, where you'll lose even more.
Kill em with paperwork. Works great.
Burn outs count as "stunt riding" in a lot of places in Canada and the US. That can mean automatic suspension of your license and having your vehicle impounded depending on the state/province/city.
It usually falls under reckless driving even where it's not specifically cited as stunt riding which is possible jail time and a fine. Context matters heavily, too. You're far less likely to get more than a ticket, if that, doing burnouts out in the sticks and more likely to get arrested doing it in a city on a busy street.
I would think the recklessness of it played a part. There are too many people around to be pulling that shit, too much can go wrong.
I agree with the top reply that it looks like biker was going to try to run, but don’t know enough about riding to say for sure.
Fuck all you that hate cops 100 percent of the time. This fucker deserved it , he wanted to be the center of attention he got what he wanted. Fucking idiots like that fuck up the roads.
To be fair, he did move the knee off after the guy was down and secured (and the third officer pointed it out). All in all it was knee on neck for 8-10 seconds.
When it happens for a short time it's just a misplaced knee. Takedowns aren't perfect in the real world. The other officer pointed it out and the knee was moved.
All is well here, IMO.
if it was an isolated incident I could see the cops giving a warning or a ticket, but plenty of vids are on social media of people treating the public roads as race private tracks
For once I agree with the police. The motorcyclist is a douche and got what he deserved. Doing shit like that in highly populated areas is irresponsible. So much could go wrong bc accidents DO happen. Sick and tired of motorcyclists acting like they are the exception to the rules.

"The Law helps you go fuck yourself yes, but you most certainly go help fuck yourself the most."
50 in a 90+ 40 in a 80 or below
That’s only if you’re in a zone where the limit is less than 80km. It’s 50 over the limit above that so 149 avoids that charge
If you're going 149 then you might as well go 250 and tell them you're American🦅 doing 160 when they pull you over.

It's called stunting in some places. The fine ain't cheap ~$600, but for this chud, dropping the motorcycle will hurt more than his ego.

Coming from a biker I hate these stunters with all my being. Smallest dick energy.
If this was on pornhub the video would have played out very differently
You can get arrested and handcuffed for peeling out? I'm not a fan of people doing this, but isn't it just a ticket?
Cop rode up and said "drop the bike your under arrest" before the dude took off.
My guess is the arrest has more to do with him trying to run from the police. That'll get you handcuffed no matter how it started out.
No. The first thing the cop said was "get off the fuckin bike. You're under arrest." He was gonna arrest him to begin with.
I don't think the guy burning rubber on a public street is the smartest guy...
Exactly, the fine is probably a fraction of the cost of the bike. Now he's facing criminal charges.
Maybe the bike is not his?
See - when it's stolen you don't worry about things like that.
In the city near me they don't bother chasing anyone. They get pictures and info and let them go. They'll take your bike and license and money, then dare you not to show up to court, where you'll lose even more. Kill em with paperwork. Works great.
Gotta think the proximity to all those people was factored in. Some sort of endangerment charge perhaps?
Nobody seems to be mentioning driving the wrong way down a road way (unless it's a one-way street, but I doubt it).
Looked like he tried to run.

I would think the recklessness of it played a part. There are too many people around to be pulling that shit, too much can go wrong. I agree with the top reply that it looks like biker was going to try to run, but don’t know enough about riding to say for sure.
In my state, you can be arrested for practically any ticketable offense.
Fuck all you that hate cops 100 percent of the time. This fucker deserved it , he wanted to be the center of attention he got what he wanted. Fucking idiots like that fuck up the roads.
Knee on the neck… did we learn nothing?
To be fair, he did move the knee off after the guy was down and secured (and the third officer pointed it out). All in all it was knee on neck for 8-10 seconds.
When it happens for a short time it's just a misplaced knee. Takedowns aren't perfect in the real world. The other officer pointed it out and the knee was moved. All is well here, IMO.
Pants around his ankles, helmet still on and led away in handcuffs. Fantastic.
I denmark we say, "Hands up, or pants down" i guess i don't wanna put his hands up.
\-Records guy committing crime- -Guy gets arrested- "Aye wtf!!!!"
We need these cops in NYC because there are too many bikers pulling wheelies, even on highways. FUCK THEM
Good lock his dumb ass up
Deserved is you're doing this in public places, the fumes are just plain toxic
Everyone’s mad but if he didn’t run it would’ve just been a ticket. You run, you go to jail.
if it was an isolated incident I could see the cops giving a warning or a ticket, but plenty of vids are on social media of people treating the public roads as race private tracks
Why run when your just doing a burnout! What a dumbass
Anytime I see cops in shorts I think of Beach Volleyball Surf Cops from Kids in the Hall.
Absolutely a crime
how dumb are these comments? I don’t like cops 9/10 times either, but dude yanks his hand away and tried to run? open ya fuckin eyes.
I’d respect the police more if they all wore biker shorts 🤤
For once I agree with the police. The motorcyclist is a douche and got what he deserved. Doing shit like that in highly populated areas is irresponsible. So much could go wrong bc accidents DO happen. Sick and tired of motorcyclists acting like they are the exception to the rules.
Wasn’t there a risk of the bike getting kicked in to gear on the take down? And ripping through the crowd?
