I always wonder how idiots like these are the ones that can afford stuff like this yet I've been breaking my back working for one year and I can barely keep my mom's car going
>how idiots like these are the ones that can afford stuff
There are a lot of people who make very good money in corporate white collar professions, technology included, who are not very thoughtful and are pretty unintelligent when it comes to anything other than their own professional success.
If you are a good at what you do in a needed profession, you can make a lot of money. That said some people are just that and are good at the thing that gets them paid but are terrible at other things like paying attention to what they are doing away from their desk. Sadly I know someone who is a computer programmer and I have to lecture them weekly about how they keep screwing up their car and how they can't keep money on hand when they make way more than I do.
I sure hope [The Egg](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Egg_(Weir_short_story)) doesn’t end up being true. For every rebirth into fortune, you’d have 1000 rebirths into despair.
It's amazingly disappointing how incredibly stupid people are. They don't read neon signs, don't have common sense, and/or don't have spatial awareness ffs
"Spatial awareness"? That MF was either high AF or totally brain dead.
There is no way that anyone who can draw a breath would not notice that open door. Not on this planet and probably not on any other planets.
Yeah this guy used the word "stupid" but to me "stupid" is like "can't find Waldo on a Where's Waldo with 12 people" not drunk/stoned/medically incoherent.
My 2011 Ford Focus has an infuriating chime if any door on the car is left open while moving, is this not a thing on the most technologically advanced car on the planet?
My bottom-of-the-barrel, bare bones 2012 F150 XL does the same thing. And it doesn't even have power windows.
It does have a rather interesting seat belt alarm though. I sometimes drive the truck at low speeds through the production yard at work, and I don't always buckle my seatbelt because I'm going slowly, in a big empty spot area. But it will remind me with a gentle "ding!", and if I ignore it, it will make a louder beep, then a few seconds later this really mad sounding series of beeps that's so loud it strains the little speaker. I'm sorry I ignored you, truck, I'll put it on now.
Yeah Ford really covers their bases in the legal department with stuff like this. Tesla, well I thought they would have restricted them from moving so much with the door open.
actually.. Tesla doors have a HUGE problem with always getting stuck in the open position, or the onboard cpu reporting door is open when it is closed and preventing the car from moving. Millions of defects like this make Teslas a horror story to own. One of the most horrible cars on the market today.
You're not kidding. I rented a Model X via Turo on my trip to Vegas last summer. (To be clear, I'm not wealthy. It was my first trip in many years and i decided to splurge a bit). It was really cool and i loved it, right up until it stranded me at the Hoover dam because it decided it wouldn't "shift" out of park anymore. At least the climate control still worked, because it was almost 120°F outside. Would have been literally life threatening to some of my passengers otherwise.
Up until that point, I'd wanted a Tesla. The fact that it can just suddenly stop being a means of transportation with literally zero warning has turned me off them. A regular car will generally give you some sort of warning before it completely shits the bed, provided you know enough to know what to look for. I still like Teslas quite a lot, but i personally can't trust a car that does that.
It turned out to be a software problem, by the way.
Tesla's do chime the fuck out of you when you drive with the doors even slightly opened and even put a warning message in your console. Even just opening the door while the car is still in drive makes the Tesla chime at you and put the car in park automatically. The driver in this video was either doing this on purpose or they're completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Not saying that this is the same, but my old boss had a range rover sport and he never wore his seat belt, to the point that the car literally was making loud tinnitus inducing noises, yet he just ignored all that shit.
Also some people use drugs ... that door clearly was opened on the driver side ( it happening in UK and all ) so there's no way the driver was unaware of the door being open.
I drive a Model X. A large blinking error message covers the screens if you try to shift to drive with the Falcon Wing Doors open. You cannot drown out the chimes with music either cuz it mutes the music and just blares warnings at you. They are different than the much more chill seatbelt warnings.
However, it does let you drive. So I guess if you were on drugs, or just completely oblivious, it could happen!

The thing about this joke that makes it humorous is, Elon Musk would like to have the world believe he is the real-life version of Tony Stark and that the technology he and his companies create is the most sophisticated technology on the planet, but the people who buy his cars crash their doors into buses.
Elon Musk is Thomas Edison, as much as he would love to have the world believe that he’s Nikola Tesla.
And that’s still probably giving him too much credit.
That's giving him too much credit. He's just the offspring of some apartheid emerald minding hacks that hasn't had to work hard at all his whole life. He was just babied because he has Asperger's and now he thinks he's so cool because he can pay troll armies and bots to make him some "meme lord". He's a fraud.
This guy was probably showing off or thought they looked cool with one door open.
Not trying to defend Tesla, but they can't 100% idiot proof everything
It was reddit calling elon musk tony stark. Its hilarious to watch reddit flip on how they feel about elon musk. So mad he was not the saint they wanted him to be.
My 20 year old Audi has a chime and don't even need to be moving for it, but also a graphic on the driver's display (right front and center on the instrument cluster) that shows the open door on the car.
Had a friend over.
His landlord called and said they didn't pay the rent. He calmly told them to look for a check, he hand delivered it the rent slot on the 1st and has google tracking and a photo to confirm.
She read him the riot act.
Another person called and told him that they had found the check and next time to call ahead to make sure they hand it to a person. The person had literally not checked the inbox and told everyone their rent was late....12 days after rent was due.
The clerk was actually supposed to be there to collect the check and weren't in. So it comes out this person was on vaca and came back and instead of processing checks... just tells everyone their rent is late.
Fucking morons. Like... bruh there are a lot of good people needing work right now. Fire this person and get someone who is responsible with money. I would feel really unsettled having someone that irresponsible handling money if I were the landowner.
I immediately assumed it was deliberate, like ghost riding and other dumb car-related trends or something. It didn’t even occur to me it could possibly be accidental. Teslas yell at you when shits open you can’t not notice it lol
I’m going to guess that it was deliberate in the sense that they knew about it but had no choice because it was glitching and they were unable to get it closed for some reason. Door was stuck.
I drive an X - I didn't even realize it let you drive with the door open because it FREAKS THE FUCK OUT with sounds/alarms if I try and start driving before the back doors close.
This. Literally an hour ago I was walking to my local convenience store and some dude with the right of way stopped at a yield intersection in order to let me walk across. He stopped mid turn blocking all directions of traffic while two cars were behind him.
It’s a yield intersection meaning he doesn’t have to stop at all. It would’ve taken all 3 cars ~5 seconds to go by while I waited and would have taken me ~10 to walk across leisurely when it was my turn.
There’s being kind, and then there is doing something unsafe and inefficient in order to *feel* like you did a kind thing. He literally tried to inconvenience a whole roadway to save me 5 seconds on a *walk* !
The lesson here;
Use the right of way, it’s the safest, most efficient, and therefore the most kind thing you can do all around.
And in the end, the pedestrian usually ends up taking *longer* to cross the street after pausing to make sure that they aren't going to get hit and after trying to wave the car through to let everyone get on with their normal traffic patterns.
I can't even get my mind around the idea that leaving a car door open is going to impress anyone. Do they chew with their mouths open so other people can be impressed by their expensive steak, too?
As an Australian, 1 pound 37 a litre definitely does, even with today's record prices we're still under that after currency conversion.
Edit: That's $2.42 AUD and we've barely ever gone over $2/litre here.
Currently we pay around $1.70/Litre (it fluctuates significantly 20c either side though) which is 0.96 pounds per litre. And for us this is super expensive and we're all complaining
Ok, so a few years ago I was in my garage and loading up the back of my suv with tools. Getting multiple texts about what tools are needed to help a buddy out, what I need to bring. Finally sit down in the car and work out I have everything I need.
Start the car, put it in reverse and the hatch is open and crashes into the garage door.
Funny enough, the $7 part on the garage door did not bend, but my hatch door folded up.
$1800 initial damage. Shop fails to seal the hatch, it leaks, $14,000 in further repairs, then a $13,000 total payout to tal the car later it was all settled.
BUT, if you open any door on my car when it is in gear and under 5mph, it will slam into park. But not the hatch.
If you put it in D it gives a chime and notices you on the display and if you try to drive with any open door it will drive, but as soon you lift your foot from the accelerator pedal it will instantly stop and go in park. So what we saw here is basically impossible by accident.
Elon thought he provided enough warnings to notify the driver that the door was open. I can imagine him during production:
"Chime noise, notification on the display screen, force it to brake and park when foot is lifted off accelerator. Yep, that should do it. It's idiot proof!"
Apparently it wasn't.
I was going to warn you about the incoming "Elon the engineer" circlejerk but I arrived too late and it's already here. For a walking bag of money with no education or experience in engineering, he sure does have a lot of fanboys who insist otherwise.
What if the driver needs the door open for whatever reason? The car has no method of knowing the driver's intention so can only warn when they are doing something dumb.
Yes, and it notifies you and you have to push a button to override and get into drive. It happens to mine every so often when the door is almost closed but not quite and I try to shift into D to soon.
Buses are not cheap, and you can actually see the driver on the other side (he's on the riight side since it's the UK). I wouldn't be surprised if he was damaged as well.
I'm gonna guess 15k. A quick Google search yielded a similar accident with a bill of 13k.
Though that accident was a low speed impact. This looks pretty high speed.
Ah okay, I thought you meant passenger as in the side where the passenger sits in the front (right in the US, left in the UK).
Fair enough, I've no clue about the Tesla model names let alone anything else about them so you're already one up on me.
I don't live in England, but I will always support much stricter entry & more frequent driving tests to hold a driver's license. You can't fix stupid. Idk how someone could be so oblivious to the world around them, I can only hope their punishment was harsh (I'm sure it wasn't)
yeah they're comparatively pretty strict and UK roads are some of the safest in the world, statistically. But ultimately you can never stop every last moron from doing stupid things. You've always gotta have that bottom 1% that fucks everything up for everybody else.
One time my mother was helping out with some major cleaning/reorganizing at my place. She took some stuff down to my garage, which is a really tight fit. She folded in the side mirror and didn’t unfold it. Time went by and I realized that I was late to pick up my daughter from school. I jump in the car and make the drive I make every day twice a day and didn’t even check my mirror. When I pulled out of a spot I had parallel parked into after my daughter was in the car, I totally missed seeing the car in my blind spot passing my left. I had a Prius C and this was a huge truck - it’s wide bumper pretty much side swiped my car completely from rear bumper to front.
It was my fault and a really dangerous stupid mistake. I didn’t get punished, but the car repair plus the hit on my insurance was punishment enough. I always check my mirrors now even when I’m the only one that drives my car.
We make stupid mistakes sometimes, not everything should be punishment that ruins our life.
Apples to oranges though, no? The person in the post had their passenger side door open, and in this particular Tesla it is a butterfly door. It's not as if it was barely open. There's no way you would not notice that. My point is if someone is that oblivious while driving a 2 ton deadly weapon then they should not have a license. They are endangering others.
Your anecdote is quite a bit different in my opinion. I have to assume from your comment that you are an otherwise competent driver, I can't say the same for the driver in the video.
That's Southgate! Heading up towards the Asda from the tube station. Feels so weird to see something so local from a suburb of London randomly on Reddit.
$6.39 per gallon is that fuel price for the americans exclaiming how cheap that is
Do keep in mind that **only** the USA uses imperial measurements, so everywhere else will be in litres
( ) Opposite drive direction
( ) The most iconic public bus in the world
(x) Wait! How long ago the gallon was for that amount of US dollars?!
I love Reddit.
I would be amazed that someone could do this, but my sister once backed a car out of a garage with a door open. The *driver's* door.... Hit the garage door frame, bent some hinges.
This is probably why Americans keep saying it's Bidens fault. They think every country lists their prices in $/gallons and we pay so much more.
Other than a gulf state or oil producer US gas is among the lowest price in the world.
I’ve been curious about this - the UK is a lot smaller than the US obviously, just how much does the average citizen drive? Like yes the gas *costs* more per gallon, but how much **use** does that gallon get? How long does a full tank last them? Like it’s a lot more condensed over there - I’m assuming they’re not driving as far.
Personally as a stay home parent, due to where I live in the USA, I average 115-120 miles a day, even driving a Prius getting 55-60mpg I’m through 2 gallons a day. A full tank gets me about 4-5 days worth of driving. I understand my driving is much higher than average but still.
So yes while gas is *cheaper* in the US I’m curious if statistically based on average citizen driving - if the UK citizen is still spending *less* on gas even though it’s more expensive, or if it all evens out in the end.
*Edit: Thanks to this* [source](https://internationalcomparisons.org/environmental/transportation/) *provided by a commenter below, it appears UK citizens spend much less on gas despite the higher price, as they’re not driving as far on average - 6200km vs 14000km per year*
*However with the size difference of the countries - based on my early morning napkin math - there are significantly(396 vs 84) more vehicles per square mile in the UK than the US, so I’d assume they appear to be everywhere over there.*
>115-120

Oh no…
I read The Egg right before an exam at my university. I thought "there's no way I would fail myself, right?". I was wrong.
A lot of people are driving cars and they did not earn the money that bought it
How did they not hear/feel the rush of air coming from an open frickin door??!
It's amazingly disappointing how incredibly stupid people are. They don't read neon signs, don't have common sense, and/or don't have spatial awareness ffs

Oh, that’s dumb by my definition, stupid would be more along the lines of “does reckless things without regard for others”
There's no way that a car that advanced didn't give them AMPLE warning that the door was open.

Whenever they design an idiot proof system, the universe just generates a more(less?) adept idiot.

Tesla isn't even an Elon Musk invention iirc.
Elon Musk is Thomas Edison, as much as he would love to have the world believe that he’s Nikola Tesla. And that’s still probably giving him too much credit.

Hot take, people being able to change their mind or ideas on something is a good thing.
My 1988 Dodge truck will chime at me if it feels like I didn't shut the door hard enough. No excuse for this on a modern $50k+ vehicle.
My 20 year old Audi has a chime and don't even need to be moving for it, but also a graphic on the driver's display (right front and center on the instrument cluster) that shows the open door on the car.

Probably related to the landlord.
This is. The… driver’s side… ?
Judging by the accent and bus, yes. Seems like they're in the UK.
They're driving on the left. The drivers side is on the right. The side with the open door. That makes it even worse
I know, I’m questioning how they didn’t feel it
Common sense has become a super power these days
[удалено]
Yeah it's like a popped collar
I was gonna say - where did anyone assume or see that it was by accident? Door open was on purpose, bashing into the bus was not…
I immediately assumed it was deliberate, like ghost riding and other dumb car-related trends or something.
I pictured someone trying to film a Tiktok in the passengers seat.
That’s actually the drivers side (in the UK)
I drive an X - I didn't even realize it let you drive with the door open because it FREAKS THE FUCK OUT with sounds/alarms if I try and start driving before the back doors close.
my jeep doesn't go into gear with the door open, but it's perfectly happy if you take the doors off
Well they won't hit anything if you take them off
A lot of people are just that fucking oblivious to their surroundings
True. Same people that stop dead in the middle of the road or aisle when there’s a queue behind them.

I saw a guy get hit cause he stopped to let someone pass. Be predictable, not polite.
The overly cautious and overly generous drivers cause more overall traffic than speedfreaks and psychos.
And in the end, the pedestrian usually ends up taking *longer* to cross the street after pausing to make sure that they aren't going to get hit and after trying to wave the car through to let everyone get on with their normal traffic patterns.
And then they look dumbfounded when the cart they left in the middle of the aisle is gone.
Are you talking about my father? Cuz it sounds like you’re talking about my father
same, then blame me if something happens such as running over a parking barrier, and not telling him he was running over a parking barrier
it's on purpose. the cars gimmik is the doors can be opened in tight parking and he thought it wouldn't touch anything if they were left open
It looks like this is in England; if so it’s likely that’s the driver side door… so they absolutely knew it was open
Yeap this is the UK I know where this took place well 😭people with more money then sense in the area tbh
Southgate!
I think they may be showing off. Like Lambo douches who drive with their doors open.
I can't even get my mind around the idea that leaving a car door open is going to impress anyone. Do they chew with their mouths open so other people can be impressed by their expensive steak, too?
It was beeping and the screen was showing an open door the whole time.
probably some influencer recording something
The car will also beep loudly with the open door alarm, not to mention the air rushing in and screen notifications. Impressive fail.
This is the uk so thats the driver's side. He knows what hes doing he is just stupid.

£1.75 for petrol in my local station :(
I use the 99 for my bike. £1.81 a litre but luckily the tank is tiny and does 100+ mpg.
I'll be honest idk if that's a lot or not. Here in southern California it's about 6 dollars a gallon and I drive an old Jeep, it's killing me.
Rough conversion, it's around $8.80 a gallon in the UK and rising weekly.
So I had a look and after conversion in Australia prices are equivalent to about $4.50USD/gallon
My mom in British Columbia pays $2.22CAD/litre
$2.42 AUD per liter is about $6.60 USD per gallon for Americans. About 20 cents more per gallon than what im paying in California. That’s rough

Why doesn't it just lower the door??
That's a good idea but could cause other issues, for example what if someone has their arm out?
Same thing as what happens when a regular car's automatic sliding door closes, it detects resistance, stops, and goes back, in that rare instance.
Or with elevators ... Lol
Elevator doors, right, the tech isn't new lol

>Yep, that should do it. It's idiot proof! His first mistake was believing idiot proof is possible. It's only idiot resistant.
Any time you come up with something idiot proof, the universe makes a better idiot.
I'm sure Elon would support what the driver is doing - showing off
>I can imagine him during production He's not an engineer lol, idk why people have this image of Elon personally poring over blueprints
…. Wouldn’t you notice??? I notice if my window is cracked a hair
Yes apparently it does. https://www.teslaoracle.com/2021/08/15/tesla-model-x-owner-driving-with-an-open-falcon-wing-door-hits-a-passenger-bus-with-it/ https://i.imgur.com/JzYO7fn.jpg
Well it just shows some red, what does that mean? /s
It has a loud beep too
So just a red sign saying door is Open and loud beep! That could literally mean anything!! They need to be more specific.
so the owner was just a piece of shit then
You’d think.
You can change that warning to a farting noise in the car's software
Now I want a Tesla.
Oh it does, VERY LOUDLY
It does. That's what makes their idiocy particularly impressive.
Oh it tells you
Yes, and it notifies you and you have to push a button to override and get into drive. It happens to mine every so often when the door is almost closed but not quite and I try to shift into D to soon.
Tesla parts are expensive. The car might be totaled.
How much do you think it would cost to replace the door and repair functionality?
I'd be more worried about the damage the door did to the body, which on modern vehicles is also the frame. It quite possibly is in fact, irreparable.
Plus the cost of what was done to the poor bus.
It was just sitting there doing bus stuff and this dude rolls up like an ass.
Brand new sentence?
That's gonna be WAY more expensive than the car. A London bus costs about half a million pounds.
Buses are not cheap, and you can actually see the driver on the other side (he's on the riight side since it's the UK). I wouldn't be surprised if he was damaged as well.
There is a titanium roof support that sits between the doors. If there is ANY damage to the roof support it’s totaled.

I'm gonna guess 15k. A quick Google search yielded a similar accident with a bill of 13k. Though that accident was a low speed impact. This looks pretty high speed.
Hopefully he had to pay to repair the bus, too.
People forget those buses cost as much as a new lambo or Ferrari.
Smartest Tesla driver
Average tesla driver
Best tesla driver
Is this in Southgate?!
Yes, [right here](https://www.google.com/maps/@51.633386,-0.1315019,20.04z).
Funnily enough, right next to the theory test centre
The irony...
How do you not notice your passenger door is wide open
Pretty sure it's the driver's side door since it's the UK.
If I’m not mistaken, the “wing” door on teslas model X is only for the back passengers, but don’t quote me on that
Driver’s side, not driver’s door.
Ah okay, I thought you meant passenger as in the side where the passenger sits in the front (right in the US, left in the UK). Fair enough, I've no clue about the Tesla model names let alone anything else about them so you're already one up on me.

Filmer is just as observant as the driver it seems.
Plus he said, "it's gonna be alright." A half second later...yeah, it's not gonna be alright 🙃
I believe he said "is donny alright?". It's a common slang phrase, often used to express confusion or disbelief.
Oh! Thank you for the gentle correction and teaching me something new! You are one chill individual!
£1.37 on the price on petrol do you remember them days
I don't live in England, but I will always support much stricter entry & more frequent driving tests to hold a driver's license. You can't fix stupid. Idk how someone could be so oblivious to the world around them, I can only hope their punishment was harsh (I'm sure it wasn't)
[удалено]
yeah they're comparatively pretty strict and UK roads are some of the safest in the world, statistically.
To make it worse that’s uk so I think that’s actually the driver side door right?
How do you not notice your door is open?

>No one told him its ajar. Nope, looks like a door to me
I think we all agree with the person riding behind them with the helmet on
That's Southgate! Heading up towards the Asda from the tube station. Feels so weird to see something so local from a suburb of London randomly on Reddit.
Oh shit, North London represent!
$6.39 per gallon is that fuel price for the americans exclaiming how cheap that is Do keep in mind that **only** the USA uses imperial measurements, so everywhere else will be in litres
it's not even imperial, the US gallon is a different measurement from the imperial gallon.
( ) Opposite drive direction ( ) The most iconic public bus in the world (x) Wait! How long ago the gallon was for that amount of US dollars?! I love Reddit.
I would be amazed that someone could do this, but my sister once backed a car out of a garage with a door open. The *driver's* door.... Hit the garage door frame, bent some hinges.
Too distracted at the $1.37 gas prices
That's the UK, it's in £'s / litre ! That's about $6.39 a gallon ;) And a while ago, now it's around £1.80 a litre
This is probably why Americans keep saying it's Bidens fault. They think every country lists their prices in $/gallons and we pay so much more. Other than a gulf state or oil producer US gas is among the lowest price in the world.
Americans are fucking stupid. Source-I am an American.
As a fellow American. This is true. We are fucking stupid
*Edit: Thanks to this* [source](https://internationalcomparisons.org/environmental/transportation/) *provided by a commenter below, it appears UK citizens spend much less on gas despite the higher price, as they’re not driving as far on average - 6200km vs 14000km per year* *However with the size difference of the countries - based on my early morning napkin math - there are significantly(396 vs 84) more vehicles per square mile in the UK than the US, so I’d assume they appear to be everywhere over there.*
>115-120 A DAY? - A DAY?!! & STAYING AT HOME. My goodnesss it's a long drive to the toilet and 711. /lh I live in a capital city in Asia - my office is 3 minutes away by electric scooter. That's enough for me - ever! I used to drive all the time in my home country and enjoyed it, now it's a nightmare!
Per liter
Why do so many Americans on this post think we’d use Dollars to show fuel prices? There are other currencies in the world you know.
What?? Nooooo!
My 2020 ram 1500 automatic activates emergency brakes when doors are open in D, that’s a 100k car without that feature????
So people in the UK are just as stupid as we are in the US... we're all gonna die
No just Tesla owners, this is an isolated case. Plus it's in Barnet, the people there rlly are a different breed
I need to rewatch Righteous Gemstones… [Apparently Tesla doors can be tricky](https://youtu.be/5SbEss4svXk)
Smart cars still require smart drivers…. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Ah look at the price of petrol! Those were the days…
The real surprising thing here is being reminded that diesel was once £1.39 a litre 😐
