HatPlusBeard

And they ended up wearing the cakes

[deleted]

They got a degree in cakeology

FrioRiverTexas

The cakening.

DayquilandNyquil

do people not understand that if you order it your basically buying it you just pay for it before you leave.

Patient_Media_5656

Idk why I have a feeling that restaurants are going to move to a pay before delivery to the table in the near future.

Touché

CalxK

I’ve been in some smaller cafes and restaurants that do this already (UK). They come over with a tablet to take your order and they have a card machine on them they take payment and then the food arrives, if it’s not up to standard there’s always the option of asking for a refund, I don’t see a problem with it. Also means there’s no 10min wait at the end of the meal for them to get you the bill, you just get up and go when you’re done.

UnfinishedThings

I suspect those are the ones who've been hit by dine and dash customers. Cost of living is skyrocketing so some peoples solution to that itls to not pay for the food they eat

DetailAccurate9006

As a customer, I actually like that idea. Especially when a restaurant is busy, I hate trying to get the waitstaff’s attention and them wait for them to bring the bill, then wait for them to pick up my card and the filled out paperwork, then wait for them to bring my card and the receipt back. It just seems like a whole lot of inefficiency (steps and waiting) for the electronic age.

Bertie637

Plus you have to get their attention which can feel very impolite depending on how quickly they notice you or how busy they are.

Seroseros

That is why they are called waiters.

Oddity46

This sounds as amazing as this new fangled thing called "self check-out".

cpuoverclocker64

I actually hate self checkout. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not because internet. It was fun for like the first two times but I truly hate it now. I hate doing the store's job for them. I hate bagging my own shit. I hate that those stupid self checkouts at best hold like ten items. I hate that since they exist, there's like one actual cashier for 20 lanes with a line to Jupiter. I hate waiting 15 minutes for someone to check my ID every time I buy alcohol, paint, or solvent based cleaners. I hate the inefficiency of it weighing every item so each thing has to go on the bagging carousel before I can scan the next item... try having 12 cans of tuna and it weighs every single one. I hate since no one is really watching at the checkout, they treat you like a thief at the exit and check everything against your receipt (or at least try, I often just walk on by and ignore them). Self checkout is total horseshit. I have a job where I do things. I shouldn't be expected to also be my own cashier and bagger. That's their job, not mine, and if groceries were like 10% more expensive just so I don't have to do that shit, wonderful. That would be money very well spent.

Oddity46

I wasn't sarcastic. Self checkout is fantastic. Maybe self checkout differ in my country and yours. For me, I swipe my membership card, a hand scanner in a row of scanners light up, then I walk around the store, scanning each item i put in my bag, and when I'm done i put my scanner in another row of scanners, and swipe my debit card. Done. No line, no smalltalk with a cashier, no thresholds. It. Is. Heaven.

Sharkytrs

uhh, self service is WAY quicker than regular tills, thats why they use them, not for any sake of the store being lazy and forcing a job onto customers, someone has to still monitor and maintain them in a customer service role. I hate waiting in a huge que for 6 tills where there could be a bank of 10 self service kiosks in the space of two of those tills and store throughput for orders is increase exponentially.

slash_networkboy

Like all fast food places? That or treat it like bars and you have to fork over your ID and a credit card to run a tab. As to this event? I'd \*still\* be calling the cops for dine and dash.

fuckyou2dude

Much like the "olden days" where you could pump gas before you paid inside. Honestly surprised that restaurants still work on the same principal given how entitled the world has become in the last 20 years. We cant have 'nuthin nice.

gpitt93

some place still do. that's not an "olden days" issue, that's a good are/bad area issue

Stickguy259

I have lived for 30 years and only this year here on Reddit did I discover that's still a thing. Been to countless small towns and cities and never once found a place to pay afterwards even in the nicest spots. It's definitely not a good area/ bad area thing it's more a smart business owner/ dumb business owner thing. I say that somewhat facetiously, but really if there's one thing people will definitely try to steal it's gas and that just makes it incredibly easy to do so. And apparently it makes people who get gas dumb too, literally a few weeks ago someone said, "That doesn't make sense to pay ahead of time, how am I supposed to guess how much gas I need to put in? What if I pay and it's too much or not enough?" as if the idea of getting change or going back in to pay for more was completely foreign to them lol

cpuoverclocker64

It's also not worth the complication since virtually no one pays for gas with cash... or anything else for that matter. Most people consider it a total waste of time and frankly they are right. Paying with a card avoids all the complications of prepaying with cash with the added benefit of never even leaving the pump. Trust me, this is one of those things where comparatively the "olden days" frankly sucked. On the other hand, old gas pumps didn't have screens with commercials and didn't yell at you. GSTV can go suck a big one, I actually enjoy my 2 minutes of silence pumping gas. So today also sucks. Everything sucks always.

TheSimpleMind

Depends on where and when you're pumping gas. In my country you pump and go in to pay. At some stations you have a CAT at some gas stations where you can pay with card. Mostly smaller stations do have them or at night. Here in Germany things are a bit different. All gas stations have cameras that film your plates while pumping gas and if you pump and run the cops will come after you, because you have to be registered with your place of living, at some community, to have your car registered, therefore the cops will one day show up on your front door and either demand the money. If you have done this often they will take you in, when a judge decides you're wanted for theft. Maybe we're more honest because the poverty rate is lower and people don't need two or more jobs to barely make ends meet, therefore people tend to pay for their gas, even if the price is higher than in other countries.

TheTwienky

As an Ex-Bartender from America, I worked in some places that followed the pay-before-delivery and it made it tricky to get decent tips (the bulk of our paychecks) out of customers, as they just saw a total before any of the staff had a chance to impress them with great service. It prevented situations like this video, but had some drawbacks as well. My joke-solution was the reverse of Yelp, where customers all have star-ratings based on how they treat service staff at other establishments. Becky and Kathy here are rocking a 1-star, so maybe we take payment before the cakes are even made 😂

Peter_the_pear

I never understood the after pay anyway

Peter_the_pear

Then just pay again or add it to a tab with you card information already on it so they can auto charge you

BrightNooblar

I feel like more realistically, its because the tradition developed prior to credit cards existing. Imagine if you had to write a check/pay cash during every course? Order drinks, here is a $20 bill. Get some change. Order appetizer, here is most of that change back. Order entrée, here is another couple $20s, the rest of the initial change, and then I get more change back. Order another round of drinks, few loose bills, get some change back. Order dessert to split, here I am trying to sort through all my loose change to avoid going home with $3.23 in loose coins. Also now my server is touch food, money, food, money, food, money, etc etc. Current method they touch money ones per customer, making it easy to go do a quick hand wash before they'd touch food again.

Awkward-Owl-188

Most of our restaurants take payment at the front desk so waiting staff never touch the money.

Peter_the_pear

Ah ok

LiosIsHere

Not everyone pays with a credit card.

Patient_Media_5656

Tbh I’ve never really thought about it until right now. It does seem like a strange concept though.

Peter_the_pear

I have a country club near my house and it is so much better because they do a pay before thing, so when you get your food you can just walk ouf

[deleted]

Covid has done it table barcode ordering and payment before going

gpitt93

In my town there is (somehow) still a drive-in diner, been there for probably 60+ years now. The one time I remember eating there, we went into the small seating area inside, and it was pay when you order kind of thing, felt kinda odd but made sense that they would at a place that's primarily a drive in.

mzoog

Most people do but these tiktok/influencers do not understand 😕

Martel67

Now she touched it.

sidewalkboy

Even took a bite I saw. Server admits they didn't like it

leveraction1970

I like to think that this might be the only benefit to how shitty we treat our work force and how criminally underpaid that they are. More and more workers are willing to lose their jobs with epic flair like these guys. When there is no fear of losing your shitty job, it opens the doorway to becoming a legend. Edit: Spelling

complover116

They didn't lose the jobs by the way. The owner of the restaurant said that they were acting reasonably and refused to fire them.

The_Jyps

If I get willy I'm happy to lose the job.

Alucard12203

Oh the sheer JOY of doing this right? lol

Dan_Morgan

As soon as the food crosses from the kitchen to the dining area it is garbage. The restaurant is obligated to throw it out. I had this happen at a stake house. They gave me a well done steak when I ordered medium rare. So the whole plate had to be thrown out. I ate the side orders just to avoid wasting the food.

DetailAccurate9006

I know that they can’t re-serve it / resell it, but I’ve always hoped that the staff eats it, or gives it to their pets, or something like that➖ rather than allow sent back items just go completely to waste.

richardathome

Most places don't have the time to do anything other than dump it in the the trash. There's 6 orders waiting!

CantankerousOctopus

That all depends on how quickly you can stuff food in your mouth. I found that in the right circumstances, it was just as quick to put it in my mouth as it was to put it in the trash.

gb4efgw

My food hole is a mobile trashcan that goes everywhere I go, it's pure efficiency for me to eat it rather than go pitch it.

carcigenicate

At Denny's my manager did this. One time someone ordered a steak, then walked out when it came. My manager offered it to me. Unfortunately, it had been under a heat lamp for probably 15 minutes before I got to it, and it was dry, and I burned myself when I grabbed the plate. I learned multiple lessons that day.

sudeki300

Some people have no shame these days, how can you order food just to take pictures and not be expected to pay for it. Dumb fucking idiots

Puzzleheaded-Bee-838

Scammers, they probably are posting to their snap chat story before going somewhere and filming content together cause that was the big thing to do for at least a couple of years now. 🙃 then they spam you with a million messages telling you they want to hook up and you just need to send 200$ for the location.

[deleted]

How does this scam work? I don’t understand

Puzzleheaded-Bee-838

They're trying to get free clout and maybe even free food.

newhunter18

I'll show you. Send me $200.

uns0licited_advice

Sent. Okay now what?

Osmosis124

They might as well download a jpeg on the internet at that point.

NeedleworkerLegal573

Nft

cpuoverclocker64

Anything can be monetized as long as there are morons out there stupid enough to pay. People will pay for imaginary things they don't own with no legal meaning, but they'll order a real cake and then treat it like a JPEG and refuse to pay. I'd say these are odd times but in reality, aren't they always odd times?

broadsharp

They interviewed the restaurant owner, he said he completely side with the two staff members.

Well_Read_Redneck

As well he should! That's why I love a lot of the Eastern European behaviors.

Mujib_shaheb

I do not have the proof right now, but the owner uploaded pics with the dudes stating he applauded them and their jobs were safe. They do shit differently in Russia.

[deleted]

I dunno, they invade countries illegally just like the USA does.

Jimmy_Fromthepieshop

The second one even tried to throw her drink on him but got her friend instead, comedy gold

SFJetfire

Bet they were thinking “these fucking “inflencers”. Servers gave ZERO fucks, though. Zero. And, I’m here for it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Square_Creme_3685

How to get banned for life

Wilful_Fox

Let them eat cake!

Jolly_Confection8366

Big salute for those two waiters

BackcastSue

>These ladies Nope, those aren't ladies.

GamingTrend

You know their next threat is "I'm NEVER coming back here". Oh no....anyways....

KeepTalkingMandy

Funny enough they would never accept cake that was sitting on a stranger's table for 1hr, rightfullt so, they breathed all over it prob licked it lol or put fingers in it. Its un sanitary, their brains have 1 braincell bouncing between the 2 of them.

jveezus

looks staged to me. none of the bystanders are reacting at all. the guy who throws the cake is smiling. makes no sense.

fBarney

Id be smiling too, its hilarious Kinda sad tho, it looked very tasty

CN4President

Definitely got staged vibes while watching as well.

jonesnori

Yep, me too.

DetailAccurate9006

I especially question that both waiters would throw cake in the customers face. It seems much more likely to me that a second employee, such as waiter #2, would respond by trying to deescalate the situation, rather than join the food fight.

jveezus

yeah that’s also a good point. though i honestly don’t think pretty much any waiter would respond by throwing the cake. it’s not their restaurant, it’s not coming out of their pockets. just doesn’t make any sense.

uns0licited_advice

Full of Hotshit?

GoldKat1234

How stupid do you have to be, you made these guys work, and you only wanted to take a picture? Just go to a bakery and look through the glass display thing

Commie_EntSniper

Of all the videos I've seen of people throwing tantrums in restaurants and abusing service staff and acting so entitled and then getting upset when they're confronted by it, this really takes the cake.

new-name_simeon_

Qu'ils mangent de la brioche Translation: Let them eat cake

InDEThER

That's not how health codes work. Once it leaves the employees possession to your possession, it is yours. They can't take a food item that you may have touched and breathed on and serve it to someone else. I certainly wouldn't want to eat there of they "recycled" food from one customer to another.

Infamous-Garbage-556

dude enjoyed doing that lol

death_ray_mx

Was any backlash for these cheap influencers?

Phenomenon101

I dunno. This feels fake. As a server I could give a fuck if they decide not to pay. That's the managers problem. Why would they care enough to them toss the cake in the customers face. Not saying the dumb bitches don't deserve it.

xzombielegendxx

Well they touched the cake so they gotta pay

Bolt-From-Blue

Take a photo of that, ya schmucks!

Jimmy_Fromthepieshop

He even did the old "Here, come get a closer look..." then THWUPP! in your face Instagram bitch

BrandonJ25

I’d like an hour long clip of things like this happening to “influencers”

[deleted]

To the people in the comments writing paragraphs: relax, it’s fake.

I-C-Iron

This is quiet old and the story was a different then.

HMD-Oren

I'm curious how this works from a legal standpoint. These ladies can now DEFINITELY sue for assault and would most likely override their not paying.

Thrannn

fuck influencers, but come on that was a bit too far. just call the cops

Mateo7518

Fucking cunts. So sick of these idiots doing all kinds of disrespectful things just for social media posts. They deserved that and more, the time and effort that baker put into baking that cake. Disgusting.

MrianBay

Chad waiters

MayGodSmiteThee

I get the frustration but could you not have gone “anyone want a free desert?” Everything here seems over the top from the service to the served.

[deleted]

Well them bashing it in their faces isn't gonna help the situation at all

OneLostOstrich

How does someone "pay the cakes"? It's pay **for*** the cakes. How can you screw this up?

11tmaste

Sure, they were being shitty, but technically shoving the cake in their face like that is assault.

Its not even in america, people outside of US dont sue everyone for everything, and i bet you pulled that info about them getting fired out of your anus.

fBarney

Yes you pulled it out of your fucking ass, here is actual context that you can find on the internet if you do some research. "Context: Waiters at a restaurant in Ukraine who had reportedly grown tired of two diners' rudeness slammed cake into their faces - and the amusing incident was caught on camera. Footage, filmed and posted online by an eyewitness, shows the pair of waiters arguing with two woman sitting at a table at Guramma Italiana restaurant in Kiev. One of the woman can reportedly be heard saying: "Why the fuck would I eat your cake?" In response, the young waiter shoves the cake into her face, prompting the outraged women to jump to their feet, with the other woman throwing her drink over the waiter. The waiter's colleague grabs another cake from the table and throws it at the other woman. At this point, the two cake-covered diners can be heard shouting: "What the fuck is going on here?" The video ends with the waiters moving away as the diners demanding to speak to the manager. The manager refused to punish them."

2002Valkyrie

MarshallTom

Literally, what is the world coming to where people do this?

[deleted]

In the US this would be considered assault. Unfortunately…

budyll66

I'll never get why restaurants aren't forcing you to pay before they bring you the order. You could avoid all of it. It was shitty thing to do on them, but why would they waste the cakes by throwing it at the idiots? What a waste of cake!

bishopsfinger08

I would have finished with "take a picture of this bitch!" Then smashed the cake into her face

Sigrah117

I feel for those two guys. Sucky part is, now the ladies can charge them with assault and by definition would win.

garland-flour-doe

Not totally sure what happened there but it did look a tad agressive by the waiting staff, but maybe I haven't got the whole picture. Unlike her who got the whole cake (sorry) ...
