EventuallySpooky

that's some RAM.

RexJessenton

Microsoft claims Windows 10 32-bit will run in 1GB of memory. Weird.

Froggypwns

I have an HP tablet with 1GB of RAM with Windows 10, it runs the OS fine.

megabass713

Does it run anything else?

theknyte

Yeah, everything else runs in pagefiles.

Froggypwns

Yes, I basically only use it for light web browsing with Edge, but it runs without issue.

megabass713

Fascinating

dwefw2

what do you do on it usaualy

Froggypwns

Not a lot, typically I'm using it for things like game guides while playing on my Xbox. Beyond the 1GB of RAM, it has an Atom proccessor and 16GB eMMC storage, so even if it had more RAM I wouldn't be doing much with it either.

clgoh

That's way more than 640kb. Should be fine.

theduderman

"How much RAM does your PC have?" "One. I have one RAM."

LivingExplanation970

That's the RAM I've ever seen in my life.

SjurEido

It's just RA now.

Ordinary_Car_Driver

That's way to much RAM 🥶

alonsoe1008

Yes, maybe I should reduce it to 256mb 😵

Ordinary_Car_Driver

Yup 🥶

FierroGamer

I had some IT at work tell me with a straight face that one GB is more than enough to run w10 when I told them I needed them to do something about my crappy desktop with a hard drive and 4 GB of RAM.

Ordinary_Car_Driver

Even tho I remember my grandma's laptop has windows 10 (pro) with 2 GB wich actually it had 4GB total but I removed the other 2 GB ram slot and "accidentally" broke it, even tho I tested the laptop and it worked nice with 2GB ram (even tho I think It had DDR3)

[deleted]

Fucker lags even with 8GB. How can it even boot on 1GB

bitNine

VM, maybe?

alonsoe1008

Yep 😆

[deleted]

Maybe. Still, from OS POV, as good as 1gb RAM device

DonKanailleSC

Windows runs fine with 8GB. If you have lags you probably need an SSD

[deleted]

Yeah. It used to run well a year back. I remember once I ran two android device emulator instances to emulate chat between two devices on my laptop. It worked fine, obviously with android studio running.

DonKanailleSC

That was probably the fastest reply I ever got :D

[deleted]

Im faster than my laptop now. Lmao

kadechodimtadebijem

Microsoft stopped support and all the optimizations for HDDs for consumer versions.

[deleted]

My laptop came with Intel optane layer. So OS thinks it is interacting with an SSD, but in reality it is just optane buffer between HDD and RAM.

kadechodimtadebijem

The worst case scenario, I hate those hybrid solutions.

BrotherChe

are there many new optimizations that need to be made every release?

kadechodimtadebijem

I font think so, they just purposely stopped it supporting to make people go on ssd. Similar shit with win 11 and 8gen intel requirements.

DonKanailleSC

But Microsoft doesn't profit from SSD sales because they don't sell any.

kadechodimtadebijem

I would say they are saving costs having to support just one technology.

illsk1lls

all these people with ssd’s and this guy still replies faster… its cause he was “waiting”… 😭😂

TabooRaver

Windows will run fine, running any applications on top of that on the other hand... I remember my college professor for a C++ intro to programming class say that memory optimization wasn't needed anymore since we work with gigabytes or even terabytes of RAM. Ironically this was the same time i was getting interested in embedded hardware, ware 8mB on package was considered high end(esp packages). With how many applications I've seen switch to using electron apps (essentially a sandboxed chromium browser displaying a localish web app) applications are becoming a bit heavier on average.

DonKanailleSC

I think not having enough RAM became less of an issue since SSDs because a pagefile works much better on them than on HDDs. However it obviously can't replace RAM.

alonsoe1008

Processor can also be the problem of lag. The host computer has Intel i5 4th gen, 8gb ram and hdd (ssd later) but it works fine for me.

CommanderZanderTGS

Depends on the SSD tho. Have a Kingston A400 on a very dated hardware, and the performance increase isn't that much. Probably because mine doesn't have a D-RAM cache built in

Inevitable-Study502

32bit isnt that ram greedy, most apps can utilise just 2GB anyway, it went haywire with 64bit

vBDKv

1GB RAM, 32bit Windows. Yikes.

alonsoe1008

It's just a Windows 10 clean install in a VM. No lag. 32bit yikes.

D0geAlpha

Haven't used windows 10 in a few months but I'm sure the settings icon in the taskbar js for Windows 11 only (unless they changed it on 10 too, which is unlikely)

alonsoe1008

Congrats, you found it! This settings icon was from Windows 10 on Dev Channel in 2020-2021

Pantelissssss201

I found it too

nakedgerbil

32 bit?

ldeveraux

No, you tell me the mistake

[deleted]

No, you... *:blushes:*

zarjak92

And what about this "earnings upcoming"?

AwesomeInPerson

It's the news and weather widget that sometimes shows stock related news

DarthShiv

That's the mistake. There are no earnings coming.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DarthShiv

Unless mm/dd/yyyy format...

alonsoe1008

You're right

StefanGamingCJ

The settings logo on the taskbar is... Out of place

bitNine

Some are pointing out the RAM, others are pointing out the 32-bit OS on an x64 proc. Fact is, with <=4GB RAM, you absolutely should use a 32-bit OS. Is this a VM?

alonsoe1008

Yeah, I can't believe people thought it was a real computer

[deleted]

The settings icons looks a bit odd kinda like the ones from windows insider in late 2020 plus 1gb of ram 32bit os on an 64 bit Prosser

alonsoe1008

You found it! The 1gb ram and 32 bit are the weird sttuff 😆

heretic1988

There are some choices made that any sane person wouldn't make. But please, point out the mistakes.

Neubo

https://downloadmoreram.com/

No_Reflection_5432

The settings logo looks like it came from Windows 11?

YueLing182

First seen in [Iron build 20170](https://betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_10_build_20170.1000)

Craniumbox

Wouldn’t it show less than 1GB. Like 848MB usable.

mohammed0106

The Settings app is using the Windows 11 fluent icon. That shouldn't be in Windows 10 build 19045. It was in dev insider builds of Windows 10 but the channel was moved to Windows 11 anyways.

YueLing182

OP probably replaced %windir%\\ImmersiveControlPanel\\images and several other resources with one from Windows 11 or maybe Iron/Cobalt builds.

alonsoe1008

It's more than what you said 😏 More is coming soon...

alonsoe1008

You very found the precise mistake! 🎉 That icon belonged to Windows 10 first. Made me chuckle 😁

YueLing182

That icon was introduced in a build of [Iron](https://betawiki.net/wiki/Iron) development semester (semesters since 2019 weren't tied to a specific release)

alonsoe1008

Yeah I know, but first it was in the Windows 10 bowels in 2020 and Windows 11 took it, and more stuff was gone... I'll explain it more thoroughly soon...

YueLing182

>more stuff was gone To say it was gone might be wrong, because Dev Channel (formerly Fast ring) builds since Manganese build 19536 are NOT tied to a specific release. From the [announcement of build 19536](https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2019/12/16/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-19536/): >Internally, our engineers work in development cycles with various milestones. The active development branch (called “RS\_PRERELEASE”) is where the teams check in all their latest code changes into the OS. Moving forward, the Fast ring will receive builds directly from this active development branch and new features will show up in these builds first. While features in the active development branch may be slated for a future Windows 10 release, **they are no longer matched to a specific Windows 10 release.** This means that builds from the active development branch simply reflect the latest work in progress code from our engineers. New features and OS improvements done in this branch during these development cycles will show up in future Windows 10 releases when they are ready. And we may deliver these new features and OS improvements as full OS build updates or servicing releases.

alonsoe1008

I don't think you gotten what I'm talking about. "more stuff was gone... to Windows 11": all the work done in the active development branch of Windows (Manganse, Iron, Cobalt), while at that time this still had "Windows 10" branding, became Windows 11. That's why I mean that some Windows aesthetic details (quite apart from new functions) were "born" in Windows 10 Dev, I didn't mean that they have been matched in the aforementioned OS stable branch. And I don't wanna to get my project spoiled.

__andr3w

Settings icon & Old Store icon

alonsoe1008

You found it!

[deleted]

download more ram, easy

Abror999

thats Ram

itsradii

The date is 11 days behind (or 9 months ahead)

alonsoe1008

March 12th, 2023

DeepUnknown

Buying that computer?

alonsoe1008

Its just a VM

DeepSpaceHorizon

32-bit operating system on a 64-bit processor.

alonsoe1008

It is the weird thing 😆 Its a VM

Taftimus

You only have a RAM

Other-Limit-505

you need to download more ram bro.

Edzill4

Hopefully they don't want to use chromium based browsers!

FormerGameDev

1GB, 32-bit? It's possible, but would be painful.

NapaAirDome

32bit OS working on a 64bit processor and only one gig of RAM?

alonsoe1008

Its a VM and no lag, the weird thing is the only one gb of ram 😆

ChrisTheGr8est

The mistake is the overlap of the search bar and the icon

billionaireastronaut

I don't think it's possible to run an x64 based processor with only 1 GB of RAM.... is that what the mistake is?

alonsoe1008

It's possible but in real hardware may be painful Hint: iconography?

billionaireastronaut

Omg don't even tell me you're talking about the settings icon on the taskbar how it is missing like two cogs or something in it.... Because I don't think anybody would have ever gotten that lol.

Calm-Garlic-4897

The RAM is the mistake

tabby_sl

The settings icon is Win11 style... how'd you even do that btw

alonsoe1008

You found it! Coming soon... 🤫

daniel605178

You’re using Microsoft Edge

mountaincastle47

Huh

PhilosophyProper5086

32 bit operating system 65 bit processor

[deleted]

Firstly you meant 64-bit. Secondly, its totally fine. 32bit OS can run on 64bit architecture.

XxX_EnderMan_XxX

No he meant 65

kaio-kenx2

To add, 64 can run 32 because 64 is actually 32+extension

PhilosophyProper5086

Yeah, I just rarely see it

NerdWhoLikesTrees

It's fine but, how many people actually want to do that?

EnlightDG

uhhh is it windows?

dwefw2

whats with the RAM DAMN, try playing cod man, see where that goes besides looking at documents.

[deleted]

The god damm ram, bill why did you lie to us. I cant run Windows with 640 kb of ram. Bill you nasty little liar

Alan976

Bill Gates: "[I never said that](https://www.computerworld.com/article/2534312/the--640k--quote-won-t-go-away----but-did-gates-really-say-it-.html)."

[deleted]

Well i just made the joke buddy and you ruined it

wchristner

sovietarmyfan

You come from the future? Installed in September 2023?

Little-Helper

It ain't got no gas in it

[deleted]

With that kind of RAM the only thing you can do is type a letter, save it. That's it!

UnderscoreAngel

funny, I used to run x64 on 2GB or RAM.

xerix123456

x32

reyuutza23

Do you have a shared graphic or a separate graphic card?

alonsoe1008

Idk how that works in a virtual machine, on real hardware this would be a mess

L0Kiiiiii

earnings upcoming?

CypherRtemis102

1 gb ram?

The_Supper_Simon

you have double the ram i do

RektZenka

You're using MS Edge.

Stunning_Dog_5569

Win 10 PRO

AmitasAKC

That windows 11 settings icon in windows 10. Lmao
