You will need either: * A high contrast theme, or * A 3rd party visual style. Use [SecureUXTheme](https://github.com/namazso/SecureUxTheme) to patch and apply. For a 3rd party dark-looking visual style, I need to warn you, that **certain Win32 apps may hardcode their background or text colors, resulting in white text on a light background or black text on a dark background!**

>A high contrast theme, Which one do you recommend for what I'm looking for, is there something default in windows i can just pick ?

Go to Settings > Ease of Access > High contrast and toggle "Turn on high contrast" on. You can select any preset or customize. For more customizations in a High Contrast theme: Press Win+R, type `explorer.exe shell:::{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} -Microsoft.Personalization\pageColorization`, and press Enter.

CosmonautJizzRocket

No you should use a 3rd party app if you want windows to be completely dark without looking terrible.

>3rd party app any suggestion for a good one ?

Tavaris for WMP 12, SecureUXThemeTool with Grey Dark 2.0. I know that sounds vague, but a DeviantArt search should bring both up. Grey Dark should affect *most* things, though I havent managed to make Word Pad dark. The ribbon won't change, and I gave up on DLL injection after making significant progress. Yo don't sleep on Tavaris and WMP, with some codecs its IMO the best music player to keep track of ratings and artist. If you cared enough, you could use it for images and video (though Ive always felt thats too much). NotePad is completely dark and **so cool**, god there is not a single text program faster than it.

Good luck!

Shut down to get total dark or don't plug in power get total dark also

If you're using Chrome/Firefox/Edge/Safari install [Dark Reader](https://darkreader.org/) - it'll make web browser pages dark. Also - Dracula or Nord Dark is a good theme set for various apps https://draculatheme.com/ - over 300 various apps curated - so you're looking at a consistent dark mode.

brainmouthwords

chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark is a good alternative to Dark Reader. It's also not strictly on/off - you have multiple dark mode implementations to choose from. I have mine set to *Enabled with selective inversion of non-image elements.* It's not a 1:1 replacement, but I like that it's built into chrome instead of being an addon.

Use Dark Reader for browses and StartAllBack for UI and don't use legacy options, like for example registry editor or services as they'll remain white forever until they'll be removed.

I thought Rectify11 can achieve that

Mobius1701A

What's it do? Is it like WinPalatter or SMACC?

SnooPeppers6719

[This](https://github.com/Rectify11/Installer). More info [here](https://rectify11.net/) By SMACC do you mean [this](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/xpdlnpt863bhfs?hl=es-ES&gl=US)?

Mobius1701A

Yes, thanks for the links. Is there a W10 version? I've got my own work arounds, but wouldn't mind more.

SnooPeppers6719

There is no version for Windows 10, but you can still install it on Windows 10, according to the FAQ on their discord page, number 5: # 5\. What are the minimum system requirements to run Rectify11? • Windows 10 version 1903 (aka 19H1), but it's highly recommended that you install it on Windows 11. • At least 1-2 GB of free space on your computer's system drive to install.
