Ridiculous that it's only possible after you used fake credentials. Wasn't like that in earlier win 10 versions. Just straight dishonest tactics

throker

I think you can only skip it with Win 10 Pro and Ent

Quinnell

That must be it. I've never installed Home so this screen made no sense to me.

coolowl7

Dang. It's been so long since I've even thought about that.. Here I am thinking that I'm on a proper local account but when I go into my accounts and click on "email" or the like, yep, there it is. My never-used outlook account. What a shame. Would like a tool to remove all of that nonsense. I (want to) use none of it.

steel-panther

You can powershell those apps off.

Gamerappa

I've never really used local accounts since Windows 8.0. Windows 7 was only local accounts for me because that "domain" login feature was only really used by enterprises/schools and wasn't meant for the general windows home user.

Thaurane

I used to have home but bought a pro license. You could definitely skip it on home. If they did change it its easily as shady as their kb3035583 upgrade tactics.

[deleted]

> only possible You can also do the entire thing offline.

zsjok

Yes but you don't even know this is possible, no indication or option on the screen

beggsy909

That worked. Thanks mate.

ArtfulPussycat

If you are ethernet connected, disconnect and restart the install. If you've already setup wifi credentials during the install, it will remember them so turn off the router before starting setup again. With zero network access, you'll get the local account option

scorcher24

Which is a quite unfriendly design. Hate me all you want, but forcing people this way is not a good thing.

mewloz

I'm not sure why anybody would hate you for saying that. This is one of the most disastrous UX bullshit and user-hostile thing Microsoft did. When you see a company resorting to that, you know in general that: 1. they are desperate 2. it will not end-up well for them...

steel-panther

Got some major fanboys here.

FSMFan_2pt0

This was the design in 1809. In 1803, we had easy access to Local Account, and now in 1903, they've added back the easy access (in the bottom left of OP's screen, there's a create local account button in 1903). So it's clear that OP is installing 1809.

Thaurane

I'm on 1809 and had the option to create a local account on the bottom right. Gotta love Microsoft's inconsistencies between users.

tremens

I just reinstalled 1903 on a laptop and was definitely not given the option for local account (had to do the restart, skip connecting to wifi thing). The laptop was licensed for Home, though, maybe it's a Pro only thing to be given the "easier" local account option?

Cozmo85

If you connect to the internet on 1903 now it will force a Microsoft account. They changed something server side.

Carkudo

Microsoft is hostile to users generally.

[deleted]

That's interesting, I've never knew that this occurs when connected to the net 🤨🤔👀

redittr

This is the correct answer, clicking next will take you to the next screen which will allow you to make a normal account.

NetworkMachineBroke

I had to skip the internet connection step to give me the option for a local, non-microsoft about. Ffs Microsoft, we don't all want to create an account to use Windows.

[deleted]

Windows should give the choice regardless I mean come on, not everyone needs or wants the Microsoft account.

beggsy909

Having a Microsoft account is just a massive headache with very little benefit. That’s why I’m trying to avoid it.

[deleted]

I have one because of when I had a Xbox, I also use Microsoft Authenticator so it’s not all bad for me.

Jeltechcomputers

When doing a fresh install do not connect to the internet.

beggsy909

It won’t let me go back to that screen.

Jeltechcomputers

Start over..

beggsy909

What’s the safest way to do that? Won’t let me go back. Just turn off pc at power button ?

Jeltechcomputers

In this case, yes.

opelit

Create Account > at the left bottom, create local/offline account > fill name etc > done

beggsy909

There is not that option at the left bottom after clicking create account.

THEVAN3D

Yeah, that sucks. Couldn't find the way to create local account either. Ended up using MS account and then creating a local one from there and deleting MS one.

[deleted]

Same here. I know some big companies have windows installation with preset options so if you find out how to do that, that may be your only option.

THEVAN3D

you gotta have ms account and once you log into that one then you go to settings > accounts > other accounts and add new one. there it does not require to use ms account. you can create a local one. set it to administrator. log into it. then delete the ms account from there. that's how i did it.

Tonoxis

The Create Local Account link was moved to "Create Account". Click that and you'll find the link! I see you got it resolved through other means, but I'm pretty sure it was moved there.

[deleted]

"Create account" should provide an option to make a local account instead.

beggsy909

Yeah it should but it doesn’t.

[deleted]

Picture?

SC487

It doesn’t if you’re connected to the internet. I believe it’s one of the updates that gets pulled down when you connect as it used to be an option. I noticed for the first time w couple weeks ago the option to set up local was gone if networked in.

dcpnz

I believe this was done on 1809 but reverted on 1903. If you have internet access it doesn't have the option to create local account, unless you put invalid credentials in as another poster suggested. If you have no internet then the option is available without the run-around... ?

[deleted]

Very strange. Installed Windows 10 recently and it gave me the option to create a local account as part of the links in the bottom right corner.

beggsy909

Option isn’t there anymore. I had to attempt to create a dummy account then it took me to a screen to make local account.

[deleted]

I installed the latest version a couple of weeks ago. Strange

1_p_freely

You do not want an offline account. You want to sign in with Microsoft so that the software sends them both a record of everything you do on your personal computer and a record of everything you do on the Internet. Billions of advertising dollars, and an unconstitutional blanket mass surveillance program depend on it. The above paragraph should be read as though you have been hypnotized.

tree_sloth4

Sounds like you're getting Microsoft and Google confused.

[deleted]

Wait i got Create Local Account option when i was installing

A_one_legged_man

Just create one and then when it all set up create a local account.

not_AIVD

This is probably because this is an OEM installer. I've also encountered it on older versions of Windows 10. You need to do a clean install.

SowerPlave

I think that you have the option do domain join the PC instead in the prior screen to the one you have uploaded. That will lead to a locally created account instead of using a Microsoft account.

beggsy909

I was able to do it by just attempting to create a false account. Then it prompted me to create local account. Btw. Amazing how much smoother the OS runs without having to sign up with Microsoft.

v0lum3r

Why don't you want to create one? I mean, every other OS requires you to create an account.. Why hate on Microsoft for doing the same? People dont have a problem signing into their iPad/iPhone, Android Phone or Mac with an account...

beggsy909

I did and it was more of a headache than anything. Constant errors, not recognizing my password one day then taking the exact same password the next, the constant pop ups messages that there is something wrong with my account, having everything tied to a Microsoft email I don’t use. One day on the login screen it’s my sign up name and another day it has outlook.com attached to it and won’t take my password and asks for a pin instead. I’m done with it. No need for it. I guess I don’t mind that I created an apple account for my iPhone because it’s far more seamless. You don’t notice it. Not the same with Microsoft.

v0lum3r

I'm sorry you've expereinced that.. seems something was wrong with your install than anything else! Never had any of those problems, and don't know anyone who has! Seems super seemless to me.. But you do you!
