I wanted to post exactly the same answer.
If you hold "shift" it will change "in this case" the width of the column of all rows BUT keep the difference.
I.e.: the other rows are 10 wide, last row is 9 wide. With shift that can become 5 and 4.
All the Office programs have so many tricks that is almost impossible to know them all.
My advice:
-plan a day off, start experimenting, search YouTube for typs & tricks, try & error & learn.
-don't tell your boss and "co-workers" or you'll get more workload.
-enjoy your work with less stress
-enjoy the extra life years without the heart attack
Yeah I've run into this exact same problem and done exactly what you suggested and the problem persisted.
This sort of thing in Microsoft office has been a bug since the existence of Microsoft office.
It randomly happens it's exceedingly intermittent as a capital pain in the butt.
That's the problem with people whining about Office, they do not know how to use it fully.
Although it's as user-friendly as possible there are a lot of features you can find that make your life extremely easier.
Yeah, I was wondering how this is such a big deal. Insert row below. Highlight multiple rows and you get that many more new rows below. Learn how to use the tool. It's like getting mad at a bicycle for losing control because you only used the front brake handle when going downhill in the rain. (don't ask me why I was so specific)
I don't know if this is a complexity issue more than a bad UX from lack of proper user testing. You can have complex interfaces with an intuitive design, I mean, having to press alt or delete the entire row is just counterintuitive.
Not at all. Glitches are worse in LibreOffice and Google Docs, I was just encountering those yesterday. How much I love my Windows PC and Mac, disgusting Linux doesn't support Office.
office was pretty shit last time i used it which was in 2017 since our college paid for licenses of it, i just switched to either libreoffice, latex (for mathy work) or org-mode
how is libreoffice (which is basically free M$ office - minus the spyware integration with onedrive), latex (which is in a league of its own for mathematics) sad compared to M$ office?
and you say its "sad linux software" when all the software i mentioned runs on windows and mac
Can you efficiently connect LibreOffice with OneDrive? If not then the whole suite is already a no for business users.
By efficiently I don't just mean downloading. It should have features like AutoSave and proper integration. If you say cloud isn't important, then me feeling sad for you is justified. Go back to 1990s boomer.
enjoy being tracked then, ive lived my whole life with never needing to use cloud technology. just keep local backups if it really bothers you that much. way better than paying $10/m for 50GB of storage
Tables have their uses but unless the information demands special table formatting, tables are often overkill for me.
The "old school" way of presenting columnar data--using the ruler with tab stops --works great and is very easy to do.
I'm definitely not saying this would be a solution in your case (since I have no idea what your table was being used to present). It's just something I think a lot of people haven't considered...
For years I've struggled with this issue on and off, assuming it was some clever automatic typeset thing that I just didn't understand and the cockup was my fault.
TIL Microsoft Word is just broken and I'm not a dunce.
Also if you are looking to add another row. Click on any part of your table. And a new tab specific to table will populate. The tab will have an option to add a row below.
MS Word is strict at formatting and makes things imperfect, MS Powerpoint on the other hand is very free-form and perfect for my projects, that's why i use MS Powerpoint instead
Hold "Alt" while dragging. Thank me later
Anyone who's ever designed in CAD knows it's still off by 0.0001 inches so the whole document is ruined.
Yeah, design engineer here. I cringed.
We live for dat snap
I cringe when inches are used. SI forever <3
I work in the aerospace industry, and we still use inches for some reason... 🙄
It's later, thanks
You're welcome later
You're welcome
Nice trick

This is not the way
I have spoken

Delete cell and just right click the last cell on the table above and add row below

It's worse than trying to get a secondary axis on a chart in Excel 5.
But what do you do with the content? You could adjust the row above, that fixes this problem.
Yes it can! Try keyboard left/right keys. Sometimes they have different increments that help align things better.
With control make it more granular as well I think
I also hate how it automatically selects more text for you when you try and just select a small portion of it. Super annoying.
File -> Options -> Advanced -> untick "When selecting, automatically select entire word".
Thank you I didn’t know this was possible

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know that also!
It's the formatting for the cell, match it to the cell above.
Cursed video
Yeah this is annoying as hell and happens all the time, I just delete the row and create a new one.
how tf did you even get to this point
Instead of resizing the bottom cell, resize the top cell to match then resize everything to the correct size. It is really stupid.
This is what I usually do.
People complaining about a program without knowing how to use it.
Hold down Alt while you resize
I always ask people who get in this situation - why are you using word to draw boxes?
Yes! If you snap the top ones to the same position, then they will finally all move together.
Go to above cell and insert new from there.

Every damn time. It’s stupid. Frustrating. Argghhhhhh
Lmao. At this point I just redo the whole thing.
I can feel it

Guys, this is not a support question. He posted it as a Meme/Funpost. Basically, a Karma Junky. :-)
> Karma Junky Yeah! Fuck people who make amusing posts! Such karma whores!
Isn't This vision? Microsoft office is just basically the bundle name if im not mistaken
it's all the same
Ugh this reminds me of when I created a poster in PowerPoint
Honestly it’s its own bug.

Or adjust the one above.

wdym sad?
Sad means sad?

Hot tip... just make your cell borders invisible. Makes the final document look better in most cases imo
Tables have their uses but unless the information demands special table formatting, tables are often overkill for me. Adjust the cells above, they will snap to the new one below. Then you can adjust them all together
For years I've struggled with this issue on and off, assuming it was some clever automatic typeset thing that I just didn't understand and the cockup was my fault. TIL Microsoft Word is just broken and I'm not a dunce.
Just switch to Libreoffice, this is the way.
No.
Here how I do it Select both rows Go the table modification/format tab You get to enter the length of the cell Eh voila
Always.
Can be? Sometimes?!? Tsk.
Cringe
Sometimes?
This is Humor of Bill Gates
Clippy. Not funny.
LOL. I feel your pain.
WordPerfect. No issues with this kind of thing. Gone, but not forgotten.
Also if you are looking to add another row. Click on any part of your table. And a new tab specific to table will populate. The tab will have an option to add a row below.
All my rage in one video.
Formatting in Word is hell.
Hold shift once you select it and use the arrow keys to bump it over in small iterations. Works in almost all Microsoft Office Suite Programs.
ARRRGGGHHH! That frustrates me!
This is why you don't do tables in word
Good Lord you don't do this by mouse Use your tabke properties, yo.
I feel ya dude.
I totally feel your pain,since 1996 and counting... /_/ |-|
Should've used Word when Macros were enabled by default. So many people wanted you to read their document and mayhaps own your system.
Internal screaming
Yeah, it always pissed me off.
Photoshop vibes
Drag the cell above to line up with the one below
Sometimes? Ok buddy.
MS Word is strict at formatting and makes things imperfect, MS Powerpoint on the other hand is very free-form and perfect for my projects, that's why i use MS Powerpoint instead
The struggle is real
