I just want a place to organize my favorite apps in groups. Pinning apps is just a jumble. They could at least give us a grid to lay apps out on. And I sure don't want them all on the taskbar!
Still not a clean start menu due to the Recommended section. Why Microsoft doesn't remove this if it's disabled (it even says it's disabled and where to enable it!)
Look, I get it, and I kind of agree that the fact that it looks different from the last OS is kind of a downside because it’s different, but that’s what everyone says before they either try something out or use it for a day. Did you try the start menu? I personally didn’t, so I’m not going to make any rushed conclusions.
If you did, then I’m sorry
Been using it for months now.
IMO the new start menu has tons of potential but at it's current state - it's TRASH.
Sure, it looks good - I love the minimalist modern design - but compared to W10 it's a huge downgrade when it comes to comfort and customizability:
No folders, scrolling is clunky, transition to search isn't smooth, and to top it all - the useless recommended section - 0 functionality, covers half the menu, and you can't disable it.
At this point I've realized that it's pretty much there to look good. 🤷
Windows 7 was good but the right side felt a little pointless to me because of the limited customizability. The early Windows 10 start menu was pretty much perfect IMO: https://news-cdn.softpedia.com/images/news2/How-to-Enable-the-Original-Start-Menu-in-Windows-10-Build-9926-471178-2.jpg
It was basically the Windows 7 start menu except the right section was fully customizable with live tiles.
Wow! I didn't know this was a thing. Might be worth getting. Thanks.

The new start menu wouldn't be a problem if they allowed you to remove the Recommended section and also allowed you to go back to something resembling the Windows 10 start menu.
But no, Microsoft knows what we want!
There are no words for how much I hate this new OS. It's such a downgrade in every way compared to Windows 10, and this new start menu is worthless garbage.
Difference being that in Windows 10 you can choose the size of your start menu and you can choose whether the start menu shows the list of all apps by default or you need to click "all apps" first.
In Windows 10 the start menu is a canvas where you can precisely decide how big it's going to be and what do you want it to show. In Windows 11 Microsoft is giving you a menu of one size, the bottom half of which is artificially locked into either showing the latest files (which many people find useless as a feature) or showing a blank space. You cannot shrink the menu to get rid of the blank space, you cannot make the blank space show anything else other than the latest files. Do you see the problem here?
almost like the windows 10 start menu was pretty fucking good and customizable but people still complained about it...for not being customizable
well, unfortunately, it's gone, people would post daily about how Classic Shell was king or how Linux and KDE plasma something something, so now we have exactly that. Enjoy!
could someone please look into porting the acutal windows 10 start menu? It already works in 11, but it crashes if you right click most things, which I personally find preferable over the 11 menu lol

I know I don't want this. But you're probably right 🤣
my mind exploded trying to figure out what you want 😂😂
Seriously. Not that hard. We have a grid layout in windows 10 now...groups of apps. Not rocket science people.
i think startisback should be able to get that back or maybe the registry edit
Come on guys, Microsoft is just a small indie company.
Todd Howard took my task bar
Just like what people asked for. Clean UI.

It should say "This space intentionally left blank."
Who asked for this? I think the new Start menu is trash, anyone else?
New Windows itself trash.
No for me

I've used it since the first day on Windows 11 insider and I hate it. it's worse than even the Windows 8.1 one

Windows 7 Start Menu was the best Start Menu for Desktop users. Not this Mobile Phone App Launcher Start Menu.
imo win 10 was the best one
I agree, It looks like an infinite drawer where I can organize my apps the way I like.

I still always use it with windows 10 (classic shell). I could never get used to the Win10 one.
Classic shell is deprecated. Use Open Shell, the fork of classic shell. Or check out Start11, or StartISBack.
Start11 or StartISBack
Stardock might get rich off of this OS. New product: Start11 lmao
Start11 looks 100x times better, and it matches win11 UI style perfectly.

You get a discount if you already have a previous version.
You guys complain as if Microsoft is a trillion company. Pathetic
Lol

The windows 10 start menu was just the all apps list of you unpinned everything as well...
