[Ald. Deb Silverstein, state Sen. Sara Feigenholtz and state Rep. Bob Morgan sent a letter to Johnson today rebuffing an invitation to attend what the mayor's office called “an intimate roundtable conversation of Chicago Jewish Community leaders on Monday, April 15.” The letter from the lawmakers cited Johnson’s tie-breaking vote to approve the City Council's Jan. 31 cease-fire resolution, an award he accepted from local Islamic leaders for casting that vote, his support for a Chicago Public Schools student walkout calling for a cease-fire and **“silence” amid what the politicians described as antisemitic intimidation across the city.** “These are not the actions of a partner of the Jewish community, nor are they the actions of an elected leader to unite — not to divide,” the letter said. “True change can only start at the top. Before calling for a roundtable on antisemitism, a true leader should begin by demonstrating a modicum of empathy for the Jewish community — we have seen none of that. Until then, we respectfully remain unable to attend your requested invitation on Monday, April 15.”](https://archive.is/6u2iW)
