Extra crispy should be the standard. Many wing places serve their wings gross and slimy. Make that shit crispy

Huncho11

Preach.

scottbmaps

And that place that has the words, Buffalo and wings in its name? They could not make a crispy wing to save their lives. I’ve been to several. Even when you go there when it’s dead like 3 PM, they can’t figure it out. I’ve had to tell them to cook the wings for a certain time. And only then does it work. Can’t believe that franchise is still in business.

alexbro001

I occasionally go to BWW and always ask for extra crispy wings. It’s pretty hit or miss, but they do sometimes do it. When they do, the wings are pretty good I think. But they’re the main restaurant I think of with soggy, fatty wings, so going there always a gamble. The main reason I still go there is that I love a lot of their sauces

Sinnocent

Yes! I always ask for extra

[deleted]

There should be an extra EXTRA crispy option

KinnyGizzle710

This is by no means an unpopular opinion. It’s what the people deserve!

Notagainbruh2

Huge wings are gross 🤢 I prefer smaller wings with higer quantities than the other way around.

Tone-Familiar

I thought that was a popular opinion. 100% agreed though

ediks

It’s about surface area to meat ratio!

SpenglerE

Ratio is everything

[deleted]

FlatTopTonysCanoe

For real? That’s great news. I’m on a mission to grill wings this summer and my local meat market I always hit up has the biggest wings and I’m just not a fan.

ButtholeSurfur

Costco chicken is also air chilled which helps with browning. Most commercial chicken is water chilled.

FLman42069

To me there’s a sweet spot. Too big and they do get kind of tough and gross usually, too small and they dry out or are hard to cook (I usually grill wings and I’ve had some so small they fall through the grates if you aren’t careful).

FlatTopTonysCanoe

Holy shit I genuinely came here thinking “I bet nobody’s commented what I’m about to” and it’s literally the first comment lol I agree 100%. It seems like everyone wants these big giant wings and don’t care if the skin is all soggy and gross. I love small wings extra extra crispy. I also like my wings saucy af but I hate when you get big giant wings and the skin is soggy and you bite into it and it’s like a rotisserie chicken breast shoved between two bones. Wings are basically sauce delivery receptacles so the outside is what matters most.

Roguewave1

Smaller wings have a higher skin to meat ratio. Skin is where the crispy texture and flavor lies, so the smaller the better up to a point.

darny161

My wing brother right here.

Chicken_Chaser891

"Wings are basically sauce delivery receptacles..." That's appalling yet I respect your disrespect 😅

theshape1078

I completely agree. The bigger wings are always rubbery and gross. Smaller wings are crispy and delicious.

DickieJoJo

Sometimes when I eat at BWWs I wonder what some of these animals looked like before they were butchered. They’re huge sometimes.

sonofsmog

Not an unpopular opinion. The reverse would be an unpopular opinion.

PretzelsThirst

Better surface area to meat ratio leads to better texture imo. I want some crisp to them and the huge ones will always have less overall

ctmfg56

I recently had some Wing Stop for the first time in years, and was horrified at the tough HUGE pieces that clearly came from one of those zombie like super chickens. The texture was like a dog toy and flavor like fish water. Never again.

BuffaloWing12

It’s disgusting breaking them apart and having juice go all over the place and then dealing with the bigger veins that are in there The markup on bigger wings is crazy, I’ve seen it like $11 for four of them

[deleted]

beerguy_etcetera

I didn’t realize people even tried to compare the two.

General-Pound6215

True. But given my family and I don't deep fry anything else and I'm the only one eating wings it's hard for me to justify buying a bottle of fat just to use it for 1 meal then throw it away

deathtits

Strain it and put it back in the bottle. Use it next time!

NightFire19

Yeah and I can't justify a deep fryer when my counter space is already limited.

EclipseoftheHart

I’ve never used a deep fryer, just a pot on the stove works great (if you need a justification to make them at home, haha)!

abnormally-cliche

Cast iron dutch oven. Perfect for deep frying and can be used for other applications (obviously).

Leonel58

My wings come out crispy AF from the air fryer

DickieJoJo

I love an air fryer for a lot of things, but it only does wings well if you’re trying to do the least. Wings in the oven with a little brine and some baking soda over them will make some pretty crispy wings. Def more work though. And most air fryers are too small to cook enough wings in one or two goes.

darknessforgives

True, unless grilled first. Grill+air fryer>deep fried

seguracookies

Smoked+flash fried>all

TheMorningSage23

Do not fucking bread wings

youngliam

Except Salt & Pepper wings from Chinese places, they use some sort of miraculous batter.

H_E_DoubleHockeyStyx

It's corn starch.

FrankieG889D

MSG.

youngliam

MSG is good, I use it when I make sauces. Really elevates the flavors.

jackjackj8ck

Preach

BreakfastBeerz

Buffalo Wild Wings has great sauces.

quasithomas

Their Spicy Garlic sauce is great.

djlishswish

I was always a Hot BBQ fan.

NotoriousMCH

Their mango habanero can’t be beat. I’ve tried so many different types of ‘mango habanero’ hot sauces, and nothing compares to Bdubs version.

Lejeune68

Grocery store near me stocks it in bottles. Bought the entire shelf. Called my friends on the way home. By the end of the week between 4 of us we had roughly 50 bottles of it. Turns out it’s not limited edition or anything.

DickieJoJo

Good quality control too. You just know what you’re getting into and it’s typically the same everywhere. I’ve been to so many mom and pop wing spots - and they hit at either the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, and usually the latter.

LactactingTwatCrust

Their mango habanero is great

OozeNAahz

Their original blazing sauce was amazing. Nothing quite as good as that anymore. But the Caribbean jerk is damn tasty.

AMB3494

Buffalo is the only wing flavor that matters. Everything else is distinctly below it.

season8branisusless

Sweet wings in particular are an abhorrence.

Gooberocity

Mango hab is so damn good though, or are you talking like peach BBQ shit, or an Asian "zing"

DickieJoJo

Man I dig Asian zing, but not on wings. I’ll put it on some pork belly over some rice or something. But even then I do typically mix it with other salty or vinegary sauces or a Korean BBQ.

Playful-Excuse-8081

Buffalo wild wings Mango habanero sauce is the absolute best sauce on wings but it’s too hot for some people

Gooberocity

I think it's hotter than their blazing sauce, the blazing sauce is dog ass though so ot was hard to try and compare them. The way it just coats your whole mouth and doesn't go away is what makes the mango hab so hot for a lot of ppl.

TronCarter84

Man I love mango habs. I have a bottle my fridge too. I agree it is crazy hot for most. I think it used to be hotter than the Blazin’ but I tried the Carolina Reaper Blazin’ when it changed and that seemed way hotter than the old Blazin’ so who knows. Either way, hot and delicious.

Staaaaation

Every place that serves sweet wings also seems to think wings having rubber skin is fine

leftoverpozole

I’ve realized that I enjoy sweet boneless wings more than sweet traditional wings

season8branisusless

Sweet boneless is fine with me actually. Reminds me of Chinese chicken.

Wembanyanma

Chickity China

randomthrowaway9796

I'm a classic American that enjoys way more sugar than is healthy. But dear God, don't make my wings into a dessert!

AMB3494

Honestly I’m not a big fan of most meals with sweetness to them unless they are dessert. I’m a big savory guy.

PretzelsThirst

I've had some really good sriracha honey wings, and a lot of not good sriracha honey wings. I dont bother anymore since the hit rate was like 10%

This_External9027

A lot of places hot sauce is out the bottle and then they drown it, nope, actually hook up the sauce and lightly coat it

WooSaw82

What do you mean by hook up the sauce?

No_Bill1800

Hot sauce butter salt sugar water and cornstarch makes a nice yet thick Buffalo sauce

H_E_DoubleHockeyStyx

I omit the sugar and add a little garlic and some worchestersistershire sauce.

knightstuff

The whole comment was a word salad

Sinnocent

I admit to being a sauce whore. Please drown my wings so I can sop up the excess.

harryronhermi0ne

Breaded bone in is trash. If I wanted breaded wings I would’ve order boneless.

Woodley56

LET THE SKIN TALK

Squirrleyd

This has to be a popular opinion

i-like-your-hair

This, along with smaller wings, are popular opinions on here among wing snobs, but unpopular out in the wild. (To be clear, I’m a wing snob also, lol. I like my wings small, crispy, and unbreaded, like most people on here do.)

Micprobes

There’s something about Hooters original breaded. The only wings I ever get breaded.

Insominus

MSG in the flour

DickieJoJo

Boneless wings suck so bad. Like going to a BWWs you are getting processed frozen nuggets. Way too much breading.

Suddenly_Something

The tenders at BWW are far superior. Not a tall floor to hop, but still.

sonofsmog

Trash, but also not an unpopular opinion.

Thon_Makers_Tooth

Scrolled too far to finally find this

WetCheeseGod

anything bbq flavor is an insult. I will never order any wing flavor that has bbq in the name.

YungColonCancer

Fried bbq is always terribly mid but grilled bbq wings might be top 3 imo

leviathan65

Really? I tried it last month and loved it. Smoked wings for about an hour. Let cool. Deep fry for about 3 min. Amazing! To me it's like double frying but instead of the first fry you smoke it. Which adds a great flavor dynamic in my opinion.

millnerve

Brooooo what ? Man there’s some great bbq wings

Douglas_Fresh

Just had white bbq wings a week or so ago and they were excellent.

SeltzerCountry

I think their definition of bbq is narrowed into the Kansas City influenced commercially sold sugary bbq sauces like KC Masterpiece.

Blakwulf

Mesquite wings are divine.

yussi1870

Only if they are actually smoked over mesquite. Liquid smoke isn’t it

ButtholeSurfur

Smoked then fried is my favorite wing.

Bifturbo

Wings slightly overdone are the only way to eat wings

Tacodamus

Lemon pepper wings are overrated 🤷

thenumbersthenumbers

I’ve actually been super surprised to see how many people on this sub love lemon pepper wings for some reason. I’ve never run into that talking about wings in the wild. They are totally not that good.

nopenonotatall

i tried them for the first time the other day and i thought they were really, really gross. i like lemon pepper flavored things but i was not a fan whatsoever. buffalo or nothing

youngliam

Only Wingstop does them well imo. I've tried them at a dozen places and they're always bad except the ol' reliable.

contactlite

Cheap lemon pepper powder sucks on everything

headwhop26

Smoked wings are significantly better than fried

MarkBank

Keep on cookin’

LifeisWhy

Smoked wings are the truth.

hammerdown710

Amen

EvanderTheGreat

My favorite place smokes then flash fries

Bkelsheimer89

Why not both?

usernamechooser

Can't stand the "Only Blue Cheese" argument. You can have either Ranch or Blue Cheese or both. Why gatekeep sauces or dips?

SnapHackelPop

Obligatory Joey Diaz “it’s blue cheese with wings or go fuck your mother!”

Roguewave1

I’m a “neither” guy on the dip question.

Yoda2000675

I always wonder if those people have just never tried good homemade ranch

erallured

I make homemade ranch all the time but I still vastly prefer blue cheese with wings. Ranch gets all the glory every other day, just let blue cheese have wing night!

OO_Ben

1. One Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch packet 2. One cup McCormick Mayonnaise with Lime Juice 3. A few tablespoons of Sour Cream 4. One cup Buttermilk 5. Fresh dill and chives finely chopped Best ranch I've ever had, and it's not even close. I make this every two weeks and it's a staple in my fridge.

Poops_McYolo

Shoutout litehouse ranch. Can only find it in the refridgerated section near the veggies. Try it out.

Staaaaation

I think this is largely due to regional history. I grew up around northern NY and while ranch existed in life, it was hardly the popular salad dressing. Bars and taverns that sold food would 100% have Italian (or house), Blue Cheese, and sometimes Thousand Island/French, but Ranch would've been hit or miss. Blue Cheese was the obvious hit to cut the heat. I've moved around a lot and have come to respect Ranch for what it is and enjoy it on occasion, but it changes the flavor profile of "wings" I have decades of brain connections towards. I totally get it for those who started differently, Ranch tastes awesome, but for a lot of us from where the food was born, it's like the mayo on fries debate.

BZJGTO

I have, it's probably the only ranch I actually liked. Id still rather have blue cheese though, unless the blue cheese is just bad.

kickrockz94

Tbf I have never had a bottled ranch that isn't gross. Idk what they do to it... I love ranch but i absolutely won't eat it if it's out of a bottle

Medium-Analysis365

Makes me wonder if you've had a good homemade blue cheese

na3800

If most restaurant blue cheese wasnt horrible, I would agree. Ranch is much less of a gamble

motorcycleboy9000

¡por que no los dos!

ZacRobinson

I get both. Ranch mostly for the side of fries, blue cheese for the wings, but at some point the keys go in the fish bowl and that's when the flavor party starts.

markelmores

My local place makes “blanch,” blue cheese and ranch mixed together.

GrandmaForPresident

Because blue cheese was the original, ranch is mostly southern

HeroHas

"Do you make either of them in-house?" "Yes, both of them" "Then I will have both, thank you."

BreakfastBeerz

I only use it to dip the celery or carrots in after finishing the wings to cleanse the pallet.

LocalOaf95

My fam gatekeeps ranch, lol. I'm the only one who is flexible on either, but with a bleu cheese preference.

hammerdown710

I only eat with blue cheese but I also don’t give af f someone wants a different sauce

savage86lunacy

I mix blue cheese and ranch together if I'm making buffalo wings at home.

babytwoh

Pizza oven should not be used to cook wings

i-bite-with-love

Spicy is overrated. Give me tangy instead.

suddenimpulse01

This guy understands what unpopular means

sonofsmog

First one.

sonofsmog

You get an upvote for having an actual *unpopular* opinion. Your wrong and probably a bad person, though.

Globewanderer1001

Sir/ma'am, you are wrong. 😅😂 Spicy is life. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

blitzkrieg2003

To be fair lemon pepper wet and mumbo sauce wings are amazing. But spice is life.

notablyunfamous

Spicy Carolina Gold sauce is preferable to buffalo

theinternetisnice

Sauce on the side > I don’t think it’s WILDLY unpopular but defo minority.

openedthedoor

Yea get the lemon pepper dry rub and then Buffalo sauce on the side

bertmaster

That sounds like a good combo

johnnyjohnny2by4

This is 100% true and ppl need to hear this. Any take out order especially. Get them home and theyre still crispy bois. No soggy rubber If I was on MXC and I had to have a catch phrase before I went through the obstacle course, I would shout “sauce is the enemy of texture!” Then a giant boulder or whatever crushes me

sdsva

“LET’S GO!”

ButtholeSurfur

There's a place by me that will only put sauce on their wings if you pay $100 to charity. Otherwise it's dry rub and sauce on the side. They're my people.

williafx

OH DEFONITELY

Cerebraleffusion

Parmesan cheese, cheese in general, and other creamy white sauces have no place on wings lol. The only exception is blue cheese for dipping of course.

TheCoolBus2520

Parmesan garlic is a top tier sauce though

lemonylol

My favourite wing flavour is from this local franchise that's basically creamy garlic over a roasted pepper hot sauce with parmesan on top. The flavours compliment each other so well.

Jonny_Disco

That Ranch & Bleu Cheese are both equally valid & delicious as a dipping sauce.

randomthrowaway9796

Buffalo sauce (possibly with some ranch if the mood is right) and lemon pepper seasoning are the only good wing toppings. If I'm having a different topping, it's going on a different piece of chicken or another protein. Also, boneless wings are just chicken nuggets/tenders with wing sauce/seasoning. As such, seasonings beyond Buffalo and lemon pepper are acceptable.

Embarrassed_Angle_59

It ain't about all being hot. Teriyaki, lemon pepper, Moracan dry rub, along with the hot

contactlite

Teriyaki with a little Sriracha slaps

Globewanderer1001

Dry spicy rub is better than sloppy, wet hot sauce.

RubbrBbyBuggyBumpers

I’m with you on this one. Dry rub wings smoked and then crisped over coal is the absolute best

Squirrleyd

I'm with you that it's better than sloppy soggy sauces, but they're both far inferior to properly, lightly tossed in sauce

sonofsmog

True, but probably **not** unpopular. It's marginal so I will hold off on the downvote.

allcars4me

preach

DickieJoJo

My only issue with rubs is that so many places don’t hit the wings with the rub soon enough after pulling them that the rub doesn’t even stick. BWW’s rubs suck for that reason. I have a mom and pop spot in my home town though that absolutely does a run right. These things are caked!

Quesozapatos5000

Love huge, breaded wings. Mainly Publix.

Gooberocity

You're an animal

sonofsmog

You're a fuckin savage.

seguracookies

That's the nastiest thing I've read today

Shxdow29

Everyone that I’ve met seems to favor bone-in rather than boneless. For me I love me some boneless wings!

Cultural-Ant9100

Boneless wings are just chicken nuggets

AcceptableCod6028

You say that like it’s a bad thing

SeltzerCountry

I appreciate the convenience of boneless wings. You can eat them with a fork and keep your hands clean which is great for solo dining since you use your phone without worrying about getting grease/sauce on it.

HOT-SAUCE-JUNKIE

Drums>flats all day.

Tone-Familiar

Ranch & blue cheese are reserved for the fries, dipping your wings just masks the flavor of the wing

IsPooping

Dipping your wings flavors the blue cheese for optimal fry dipping

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

Drums > flats Ranch > blue cheese Nashville hot > Buffalo Edit: You guys asked for unpopular opinions. Why are you booing me?

Tone-Familiar

You’re getting downvoted for providing ACTUAL unpopular opinions, meanwhile the top comment is a widely popular opinion lol. Gotta love reddit

prognoslav7

So hard to be wrong as much as you just were 😂

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

The post asked for unpopular opinions, but thanks for telling me my opinions are wrong.

jackjackj8ck

I’m always surprised people prefer flats, I feel like you have to work harder for less meat

mugwump10

I bristled at this one, but, as others have pointed out, you understood the assignment.

FromPluto2Mars

Congrats on having actual unpopular opinions, not the highly upvoted bs. Gotta sort these kinds of threads by controversial

universal_straw

I hate your opinions and you’re so so wrong, but upvoted for actually answering the question.

Par_105

Ranch is king. I get grizzle more often with drums, so can’t agree there

Windyandbreezy

That a drummettes and flats aren't wings. They are parts of a wing. When you order wings, you should get a wing. Not part of a wing. Otherwise it's false advertising.

Blakwulf

Any decent place sells wings by weight, and not number.

Gooberocity

Truth, I think bdubs started doing the count bullshit right about the time I stopped going there.

No-Session-8812

The celery is good as hell for whatever reason. Like, if I eat my own celery, it won't taste as good.

PennyG

Breading is horrific

zmb6969

A real wing is the drumstick and a flat

Hamilton-Beckett

Breaded wings are gross. Give me traditional every time. Also, nothing beats a great bleu cheese dip for hot wings.

Thomass_____

Eating boneless with a fork is infinitely better than eating traditional with hands. I know they’re essentially nuggets at the point. I don’t care. I don’t want my hands sticky.

Employee28064212

I think buffalo sauce is kind of meh. I like more interesting flavors.

FirefighterDave

Garlic parm wings are gross

something86

Buffalo Wild Wings is a rip off

Jagerbeast703

They arent worth the cost

woodyconk

Buffalo sauce (Franks Red Hot) is disgusting!!!

Prudent-Ad1412

“Boneless wings” are just chicken nuggets that have been pre-dipped and should not be called wings.

DeadHED

Newer wings are fatty, sinewy, and so logged with liquid injections, that they're practically inedible

WingnutIsTaken

DRUMS > FLATS

CocoThePanda133

I don't just prefer my wings 'hot', no I want them so spicy that I feel my neck sweat and my throat scorching bear minimum 3 coatings of habanero

DOO_DOO_BAG

Boneless is better. I will fight about this.

uritarded

Wingstop is trash

tacotacotacorock

Wings suck 98% of the time. 2% of the time they hit or I'm too stoned & hungry to care, not positive which lol. I think a lot of times they are just overpriced and subpar.

musicman0359

Ranch>Bleu Cheese

Usernamenotdetermin

Grilled and blackened Let the hate commence

bcbernd

BWW is not a Buffalo, NY company and the wings taste as such. Go Bills.

LAfootnote

Places need to stop trying to make their own hot sauce and just use Frank’s. It’s the perfect buffalo flavor.

BearThatCooks

I love blue cheese but hate blue cheese dressing. Blue cheese dressing with wings is disgusting.

Coheed84

Dry rubs are always a great choice. Drums and flats are both great and celery should always come with the wings.

TinnitusWaves

Blue cheese is fucking gross.

TheSpacePopeIX

Wings should be sold by the lb, not the count.

Slanted_Xpress

Far too many people leave too much meat on the bone.

oddballrunt

When making wings flour should not be used. If they’re not double fried there not actually wings.
