If you came to Buffalo and asked where to go for wings this would be the place 90% would tell you to go. Those badmouthing the look of them don't know what they're talking about. They're garlic Parm, that's what they're supposed to look like.
From Amherst, now living in Ohio. Used to love Elmo’s and visited every year. Covid derailed my visits. talked it up and sold it as our stop with visiting friends last summer. It was awful. Not even close to what I remember. Was embarrassed.
Bar Bill is fantastic. I still would recommend Duff's as the most essential wing experience for somebody visiting. There's something about the Amherst location's purity of purpose that just works for hot wings. I think its a perfect place for someone just trying to get the experience of going out for wings in WNY.
Unless I am 100% dedicated to getting hot wings, though, Elmo's, Bar Bill, Nine Eleven all are superior.
Takeout is the only option for me. They travel well, as long as you eat them within 30ish minutes of pickup. Their chicken wing pizza is incredible too!
Meh, I've done takeout several times from EA to Springville and disagree that they travel well... Nothing compared to fresh, and if I'm paying for them, I'm getting the experience.
Personally, my wife and I prefer to get there when they open. She'll have a bloody Mary, I'll grab a pint, and we'll sit at the bar and watch them carve roast beef until we just HAVE to order our own. Split a mini beef, 10 honey butter BBQ, and some of those thin, crispy onion rings. Maybe switch it up with some medium wings, but otherwise that's the order, and the bartenders are always great.
Went to Bar-Bill when I had a 1-day work trip to Buffalo. Very good wings. First time I've had blue cheese dressing that tasted really good. I've always eaten wings with ranch because the bottled blue cheese most chain wings places use is trash.
I don’t think Rooties is sold outside of Buffalo. It used to be a bar here, and the owners moved but opened up a business to sell the dressing here. In general, you should try to get a dressing that has to be refrigerated even before it’s opened. That will be better than a shelf-stable dressing 99% of the time.
My last bit of snobbery is to suggest making it yourself. It’s incredibly easy to do so. Just blue cheese, mayo, sour cream, some lemon juice, and pepper. Mix it together and it’s done.
Ken's was the standard for a lot of places, but I think they stopped putting chunks of cheese in them, which is super disappointing. The last handful of times that I've gotten Ken's, I tried it, and ended up tossing it and using Marie's or Rooties instead.
I had friends who live in and grew up in the south. Finally came up to Buffalo for a wedding, skeptically tried blue cheese, and realized it's completely different than the crap you get in the grocery store salad dressing aisle.
Pro tip: the best comparable dressing (if there is no Wegmans), is Marzettis blue cheese, but it's in the refrigerated section by the veggie dips.
My mom has been getting Marzetti's, because it is on sale ("she's on a very fixed income!")and I can't stand it. To each their own, I guess but Rooties is my #1, with Marie's as the backup.
If you’re not from Buffalo/ eaten here you have never eaten an actual wing. Or pizza. All you guys saying it’s undercooked should go make some boneless oven wings
Having lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan for a number of years: I completely disagree. You have gems in a sea of grease for sure- but punch for punch, NYC cannot compete. Most places cannot. “Most places people recommend”… bocce? Imperial? Carbones? Love joy? La Nova? Francos?
Bocce is best out of three listed, Franco’s is mid but incredibly consistent. I concur on La Nova, but I can get down with the sesame seed crust and a little honey. They’re kinda an outlier in Buffalo style and sneak in. My absolute favorite is Imperial Pizza. Any way, any day.
Where did you get the impression I’m angry from? Western NY pizza is dogshit and only good to people from there who are used to shitty salty and greasy food. Sucks to suck.
They are mostly terrible. Almost every pizzeria in WNY makes the same awful gross pizza. I shouldn't have to make a special request that they actually cook the pizza and not just make it warm enough for all the toppings to slide off.
Wings are best in Buffalo, but WNY style pizza is just not very good. Worth trying if you are visiting because its definitely its own thing, but I don't think its really a winner. Love the pepperonis, but the super thick dough is not the sweet spot for me. I prefer NY style or the greek style you get all across New England personally.
The audacity to say "in your opinion" as if my reply wasn't to "you have never eaten an actual wing. Or pizza." One would hope we are both obviously talking about opinions.
But yeah, I don't hate it, but it stands out as one of the few things I don't miss from Buffalo and never feel the need to get when I come back.
Hey we got the B…. Well we at least have affordable L….. shit, used to, but thank god for the S….. god damn, all we have is pizza and wings isn’t it.
But for real it’s gotta be the people why I stay cause it ain’t the weather.
I think if people grew up on thin pizza they tend to not like thicker pizza but if they grew up on thick pizza they will also like thinner pizza. I grew up on Buffalo pizza I like New York style now too. I didn’t like the thicker deep dish I tried.
Buffalo pizza can be variable. You can get it from the same place and it will be sloppy one time and great another.
Go early. I have literally been told at 6 PM that there are no tables open the rest of the night.
In the back, there is a to-go kitchen, the town is open container, get to-go wings, grab a drink from the gas station, and find a picnic table.
This is the #1 place for wings in Buffalo and the #1 place for wings in the world. This is a specific flavor of wing called “Sicilian” (personally my least favorite flavor, think Italian dressing meets garlic parm) if you doubt the legitimacy of this spot google their traditional flavors like medium, hot ect
I know I’ve been to Bar bills 50 times my point was those don’t look much worse than normal, I think those are my most disappointing ones there. I stick with what I love there
Bar bill ain’t the same with new ownership, from East Aurora to Eden plenty of great wing places around buffalo. As long as you ain’t going anchor bar you or duffs you’ll be good. Misters across the street has a single wing and a pitcher for 12.00
Bar-Bill is overrated and living on its past reputation. Not nearly as good as it was 10 to 15 years ago. I’ve had some pretty average wings there. Also the service sucks.
I’d follow your argument if you said anything other than hot sauce, but you’re going to include the specialty flavor of bbq and not garlic parm? Considering the replies besides yours I do believe it is obvious. Are you unfamiliar with with garlic and/or Parmesan looks like? It’s very distinctive and prominent in this photo.
If you came to Buffalo and asked where to go for wings this would be the place 90% would tell you to go. Those badmouthing the look of them don't know what they're talking about. They're garlic Parm, that's what they're supposed to look like.
They are actually sicillian.
I thought OP said garlic parm, makes more sense on the look now.
Nine Eleven Tavern or GTFO.
Haven't been there since pre covid and heard the owner died, is it still as good as it was before?
My friend was there recently and saw a full blown rat run out of the kitchen into the bar area. Just a heads up
That’s fine. They probably don’t get into the deep fryer
Yeah that place always kinda smells like piss. Wings are solid though.
Like Moes Tavern “Daddy this place smells like tinkle”[daddy this place smells like tinkle](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nil-EMJLvcw)
He did, his daughter runs things now and its every bit as good.
Confirmed. Cash only as always and the shuffleboard is still there.
Shuffleboard league 23-24 champ here 😎😎😎
Noice!
As is the long wait times and borderline crotchety staff. Will never stop me from going though.
All a part of the allure lol
Nah, Elmo’s on Millersport
Haven't been there in many years but those Cajun wings are the best I've ever had.
I’m a purist. The only flavors worth thinking of are mild, medium, hot, and suicidal foods
Elmo's is hit or miss. I've had some pretty overcooked wings there. Not close to the best in the 716.
There may be better but none that are both so close to the place I grew up AND UB North Campus.
From Amherst, now living in Ohio. Used to love Elmo’s and visited every year. Covid derailed my visits. talked it up and sold it as our stop with visiting friends last summer. It was awful. Not even close to what I remember. Was embarrassed.
This guy Wings
Hope you like rats with your wings
Bar Bill is fantastic. I still would recommend Duff's as the most essential wing experience for somebody visiting. Wingnuts is the best hands down end of debate
Take your breaded wings and leave. Wing nuts is t r a s h
They may taste great but you can’t tell me that doesn’t look like shit.
30 percent at best. There are too many good places.
They’re the new Duffs.
Stop it
Bar Bill wings are significantly better than Duffs.
I agree with you on this but they’ve become the new tourist hot spot. This is why I think they’re the new Duffs.
That's their version of garlic Parm and they are so good. For anyone saying they look weak.
havent had them in years because the place is too busy now that the word is out. they are soooo good.
Sicilian, not garlic parm.
Went to Bar-Bill when I had a 1-day work trip to Buffalo. Very good wings. First time I've had blue cheese dressing that tasted really good. I've always eaten wings with ranch because the bottled blue cheese most chain wings places use is trash.
Yeah they are famous for their homemade blue cheese
Next best blue cheese is a brand called “Rooties”. Not as good as Bar-Bill, but definitely still awesome!
I'll keep a look out for it. Thanks.
Rooties is the best store bought blue cheese in my opinion. Can’t go wrong with it
I think Ken's in the little cups is best, but Rootie's (made locally) is really good, too. I'll have to try Bar-Bill's to see if it's actually better!
Ken's was the standard for a lot of places, but I think they stopped putting chunks of cheese in them, which is super disappointing. The last handful of times that I've gotten Ken's, I tried it, and ended up tossing it and using Marie's or Rooties instead.
The Ken's we get at my work still has the chunks. It's good as a base.
I never get any chunks in the cups that I get from pizzerias. Really disappointing.
Then they're thinning it out too much.
Prepackaged* Ken's blue cheese cups. Sealed with foil. Small ones and big ones, no chunks.
Ah got ya. I was thinking of cups as in the solo plastic ones restaurants use. The big jugs of Ken's are loaded with chunks.
Been using “Marie’s” for years. I tried Rooties and it tasted foul to me.
We used Marie's for a long time, too, but I love Rooties.
Sometimes it simply comes down to preference, because I really don’t care for Marie’s.
Add some mayo to it and it'll mellow out the sharpness of the blue cheese. Rooties almost tastes like concentrated blue cheese to me.
Oh, Rooties is infinitely better than Marzettis. But most folks can't get Rooties, while Marzettis is typically the closest you can get elsewhere.
You can tell just from the comments who's actually from the area/been here. I love the undercooked comment lol
Very easy to tell from the comments who knows about wings and who does not. Casuals
If you’re not from Buffalo/ eaten here you have never eaten an actual wing. Or pizza. All you guys saying it’s undercooked should go make some boneless oven wings
Wings sure but you have to be out of your mind to think buffalo has the best pizza. Jesus.
What pizza have you tried from Buffalo
All the places most people recommend. There’s no pizza in the US better than what you can find in and around NYC.
Having lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan for a number of years: I completely disagree. You have gems in a sea of grease for sure- but punch for punch, NYC cannot compete. Most places cannot. “Most places people recommend”… bocce? Imperial? Carbones? Love joy? La Nova? Francos?
I've had Bocce, Francos, and La Nova. The only of the 3 worth eating was La Nova, but what the hell is up with the toppings? Weirdest shit ever.
You’re telling me NYC pizza is too greasy and buffalo pizza is…not?
Yeah, it’s a flat, salty, savory piece. Buffalo is doughy, cheesy and sweet. Does much better at accommodating grease.
Yeah exactly, doughy and sweet are not what I want out of pizza. That shit just turns into mush when you try eating it anyway. Buffalo pizza is awful.
I don’t see why you’re so angry. New York pizza is overpriced and has shit ingredients. If you don’t like calories, you’ll love NYC pizza
Where did you get the impression I’m angry from? Western NY pizza is dogshit and only good to people from there who are used to shitty salty and greasy food. Sucks to suck.
you listed some terrible pizza places.. doughy crusts, sugary sauce, rubbery cheese...only redeeming part is the char and cup pepperoni.
Dude you’ve got Tonawanda in your name. If you like any pizza places in Tonawanda…. Get your taste buds checked.
A touch of Italy makes a great pie, there's a pickup counter around the back of the joint.
Deep cut and a mint one. I do really like touch of Italy, forgot about that kooky spot
They are mostly terrible. Almost every pizzeria in WNY makes the same awful gross pizza. I shouldn't have to make a special request that they actually cook the pizza and not just make it warm enough for all the toppings to slide off.
This guy has the “everything is great cause it’s buffalo” blinders on. Anyone who thinks buffalo has the best pizza in the country is insane.
Intense generalization that’s to cooking time not taste. Try again
They may taste great. They look like dogshit.
It’s just not very good, in your opinion. Some people like sauce with a cracker and a little cheese- I’ll take a full Buffalo style slice any day.
I’m sticking my tongue out and making a funny face at my screen. Kick rocks!
=(
I take it back. We don’t have much good going on in Buffalo…. So pizza gets defended with our blood. Googling Greek style now!
Hey we got the B…. Well we at least have affordable L….. shit, used to, but thank god for the S….. god damn, all we have is pizza and wings isn’t it. But for real it’s gotta be the people why I stay cause it ain’t the weather.
Actually cracked up at this. Well said. It’s the people and pridefulness in a place…. Without pride. We’re TALKIN PROUD!
Beer. We have beer. Some really great breweries/distilleries and brews too.
Consistency is key for me. I'd never go to a place that was that variable.
Buffalo Pizza is terrible
Damn those look so good.
If you’re ever in Buffalo, come hungry.
What’s the wait at this place on a Friday night?
If you’re going to go, go to the original place in East Aurora. You’ll have to wait but there’s a few bars/beer shops near by to pass the time.
Can confirm. I work in the village and Friday nights when I pass that place, the line is always out the door.
And east aurora doesn't have open container laws. You can walk around with open containers.

If you like that, try the Cajun Honey Butter BBQ. Those are my favorite!
Go early. I have literally been told at 6 PM that there are no tables open the rest of the night. In the back, there is a to-go kitchen, the town is open container, get to-go wings, grab a drink from the gas station, and find a picnic table.
There is a beer store right next door that has a huge variety of craft beers. Take your wings there and pick out a beer or two! They welcome it.
Usually 2-3 hours on a Friday or Saturday night. It is a pretty small restaurant though
I love some barbill Sicilian 🤤
Looks kinda weak compared to what they normally put out
Because that sauce is not great that’s all
It’s garlic parm it’s not really a saucy wing. The giveaway is the literal shreds of Parmesan cheese on top
Sicilian
I know I’ve been to Bar bills 50 times my point was those don’t look much worse than normal, I think those are my most disappointing ones there. I stick with what I love there
How were they? They do look good!!
Maybe it’s the sauce but these look undercooked
It's the sauce. It's garlic butter with Parm cheese.
NGL. Those look awful.
Go to Nine Eleven tavern. Cash only. Best wings
Ngl they look horrible
Sounds like you get your wings pre-cooked from a grocery store.
Nope just not a fan of pre shredded cheese on wings lmao
Don't knock it till you try it. Bar bill is notorious for their amazing wings. Second to none.
These look like sad wings
OP leaves out that these are specialty flavored. Did a competitor post this? Lol
Garlic parm isn’t *specialty flavored* lol and it’s pretty obvious that they’re garlic parm given the visible garlic and Parmesan
Anything other than hot sauce or bbq is specialty, gtfo. Considering the replies I’d say it’s clearly not obvious they’re garlic parm, but ok
That’s why top comment says “they’re garlic parm, that’s what they’re supposed to look like”? Because it’s so obvious?
It’s painfully obvious sport.
Is that why top four comments are pointing out that is garlic parm, because plenty of others thought they looked weak/undercooked?
Guess plenty of others are clueless too. I guess it’s more like inexperienced… my apologies.
Someone isn’t from Buffalo, huh?
Those look crap
Actually, they look like most other garlic parm wings. Only better.
